Disclaimer: My love language is halal food. If that made you laugh, we're off to a great start. Now that we've cleared that up, let's get to the meat and potatoes -- or in this case, chicken and rice. (Don't worry, we'll circle back to the actual meat and potatoes later.) I ordered a large Mango Lassi. It was delicious -- creamy, sweet, and refreshing -- but calling it "large" might be a slight exaggeration. Still, flavor-wise, no complaints. The real reason I chose this restaurant was the Chicken Rice Platter, and to say it delivered would be an understatement. There's a spot in Houston I used to visit just for this exact dish, and this version absolutely blew it out of the park. A solid 10/10. The chicken tasted like it was rotisserie-style, with a beautifully seasoned crust on the outside and juicy, tender white meat inside. It's served over fragrant yellow rice, topped with a rich white sauce, and paired with a fresh cucumber salad on the side. Hands down, my favorite dish of the night. Next up was the Beef Nihari, served with naan and yellow rice, along with the Karachi Chicken Biryani. The Beef Nihari is a thick, deeply seasoned beef stew with generous chunks of fall-apart tender meat. It's hearty, comforting, and packed with flavor. The warm, fluffy, pillowy naan was perfect for soaking up that rich broth. Paired with yellow rice, it makes for a seriously satisfying meal. (Side note: it is oily -- which is traditional and expected -- just a friendly heads up.) The Karachi Chicken Biryani was beautifully spiced, aromatic, and fluffy. Tender chicken thighs and drumsticks were nestled into the rice alongside hearty chunks of potato -- told you we'd get to the meat and potatoes. It has a noticeable kick, but nothing overwhelming. Just bold, well-balanced spice. To finish, I had a large Lemon Mint Virgin Mojito. Extremely refreshing -- crisp citrus and minty cool -- but again, "European large" might be the more accurate description. I placed this as a carry-out order and made the commute to pick it up. The restaurant is located in Overland Park in an area that seems to have several similar establishments, at least from my perspective. Once inside the double doors, you're welcomed into a fairly modern dining space with seating for couples and larger groups, plus a private dining area. There appeared to be a buffet set up -- possibly for Iftar -- which is a thoughtful and convenient touch. I also appreciated the designated prayer area, which was a wonderful detail to see. The host was friendly, and my food was ready in a timely manner. Overall, I was genuinely impressed. Flavor, atmosphere, hospitality -- all on point. Definitely check it out for yourself. read more

Chai Café in Overland Park is such a hidden gem! Don't let the little construction on the outside fool you--they are open, and once you step inside, the space is so cute, cozy, and inviting. They even have an event space that would be perfect for private parties, movie nights, or game-day watch parties. The menu is incredible and full of flavor. I tried the Kashmiri Chai and absolutely loved it--it's pink, pretty, and pure comfort in a cup. The food was delicious across the board, but some favorites were the brand-new Mandi (a huge, shareable dish packed with flavor), their tacos with a fun twist (paneer, beef, and chicken--all winners), the Butter Chicken Wrap (a must-try for butter chicken fans), and the refreshing Dahi Puri. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. This place is definitely worth checking out, and I'm already excited to come back and try more from their menu. I visited this place maybe like near ago and left with some questions about the taste of certain items and I even forgot that there is a place there to visit again but today I was with my family just driving in the same complex and I found this place. They renovated this place a lot looks like there's a change of management as well. I didn't complicate this and asked the cashier. What are the popular things to order? We stopped by Chai Cafe on our way to some spring break bowling and March Madness, and despite how fun those things were, Chai Cafe quickly became the highlight of our day and weekend! The dining room is fun! Open, bright, clean, well decorated, smells great, and has ample seating! There's awesome, light music playing, which I really enjoyed! It's international, but easy listening, adding to the ambiance very well! The windows lining the front of the restaurant are heavily tinted, so even though it may look closed or that the lights are off when you pull up, head on in! It's bright and welcoming inside, despite the front being..."modest", we'll say... You order at the front counter, and there are bright video-board menus behind the counter to review. There are SOOOO many options here! Admittedly, it's a bit overwhelming to take in, however, the lady tending the counter during our visit was extremely kind and helpful, and answered our many, many questions! We ordered a very diverse spread, including biryani, a butter chicken sandwich, chicken and noodles, and butter paneer. We also all tried different chai teas, and my son got a flavored lemonade. We sat ourselves after ordering, and everything was made fresh. So, it took about 15 minutes or so for our order to be called. EVERYTHING was absolutely fantastic! I recommend literally anything above, which leads me to believe that probably just about everything here is very, very good! I think our favorite were the butter ___ dishes, especially the butter paneer. The moment you open the doors it smells so good. The atmosphere is very relaxed. There is music playing but nothing too loud or crazy. Food seems to be cooked fresh which is a huge plus. I went in there thinking it is regular coffee shop and ordered coffee. They gave me some sweet stuff instead of saying they don't have coffee. It was so sweet that I paid for it and dumped in trash and left. The girl could have told me that we don't have regular coffee and not charge me $5 dollars for small cup. What a rip off and horrible place. They need to tell people this is machine made coffee like QuickTrip and not Starbucks type brew coffee. read more

Walked in for a to-go order. Employees at the counter were quick to smile and greet me and help me with my order! Food came out within 15 minutes. Ambiance inside was very family friendly it seemed. Came in to try after someone had told me great things and I will say it did not disappoint. My mom and I ordered the Saffron chai and it was incredible. Know that you can customize your sweetness level--I got it half sweet and my mom got it with full sweetness and it was delicious either way. Very authentic and was an elevated version of the chai I grew up drinking with my parents. The food....so good. We got the Papdi Chaat and Butter Chicken plate and both dishes were SO flavorful and a great spice level. I will say that the butter chicken surprised me with its spice level so beware if you are sensitive to spice--but I thought it was perfect. The space itself is so nice and clean inside. Best chai I've ever had, and was pleasantly surprised by the food, too. Lots of space to meet up or hang out (it will make a much better hang out if they turn down the music, which is loud), but it's a great find and certainly beats the other food options in the strip mall. Definitely come here if you any kind of chai, or if you want a clean chill spot to hang out in the area. They also have several different types of chai. I'm not normally a fan of Kashmiri chai, but the Kashmir chai here was VERY good. Went there the other day for the first time. My sandwich was dripping all down my arm. Way too much sauce. The music was too loud. The two girls working behind the counter were too interested in texting on their phones than taking care of customers. They need more training. Also, don't automatically put hot sauce on sandwiches unless it is asked for. read more

A gem in a middle of no where. Couldn't believe Kansas would have such a place. Great vibe, ambience and service. Most international food restaurants lack ambiance but this place felt great. This is a lovely little gem in OP. I have stopped in a few times and love whatever I try on the menu. The only thing I did not completely love was the amount of boondi at the bottom of my mixed papdi chaat bowl as it sucked up all the liquidy goodness I d my snack. The Kashmiri chai is my favorite that I have tried so far and they do make it with oatmilk if you ask, so perfect for people with food restrictions. The staff and cashiers are very helpful in explaining items on the menu as well. There's a small selection of grab and go desserts as well and some Indian beverages available. We came for dinner again today. This time I tried the chicken cheese paratha, and my husband had the club sandwich. I also had the chicken spring rolls. Both my paratha and spring rolls were pretty good; rolls were fresh, flavorful and perfectly crisped! Chicken cheese paratha was also comforting, warm, simple and yummy! (I now understand their parathas are the Malaysian puff parathas, not the home made actual traditional parathas- but since now I know, I have come to accept the fact, can manage my expectationsُ, and enjoy the idea/creation!) What however I still CANNOT accept is sweetened Kashmiri chai- and the excuse that that is what it's supposed to be, when it most definitely is NOT!!! AND it's an easy fix- remove the sugar from the mix they are making themselves (I asked today and was told they put the sugar in the mix they make themselves); and then everyone is happy!! Anyone (which would be most people according to the owners) who wants it can then just add it after! Today however they said they will try to do remove it next time- so I have to go again to check if they kept their word! read more

We got dinner from here today and for the most part everything tasted good. The chaats and paratha were good. But the Peri Peri chicken sandwich was hopeless.
