(Parts from original review 10/30/2019) * Judging by the picture, I'd say he hated it... lol No really, it was delicious!!! This was a pleasant little hidden away cafe/bistro. It used to be nestled inside the Colonial Gardens nursery and market off 7 hwy and Wyatt streets in Blue Springs, MO. The signage was sparse, so it was difficult to find... But most people did! And it was so worth the adventure. On our original visit we ordered the Belgian Waffle with fresh fruit. It was light and fluffy on the inside and golden crispy on the outside. The fruit was perfectly ripe and naturally sweet. We also shared a half order of biscuits and gravy. Obviously made from scratch. A warm fluffy and moist biscuit under a generous serving of rich and creamy sausage forward gravy. I couldn't stop eating it I ordered their ham and cheese florentine frittata, which was filled with yummy ingredients and had a creamy custard layer on the top. It was absolutely mouthwatering! They're generous in their portion sizes there. The ambiance was pleasant and cozy. With lots of windows that afforded the best views of the arboretum. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We continued to frequent this place, even after they relocated onto Main Street at the square. They are able to accommodate more guests than before, and offer more dishes and pastries. They put out a heck of a breakfast! You really must try their hospitality. Always friendly, always kind. Coffee was Amazing and you can refill with regular coffee. Food was very tasty. My 1 star off was the prime were small for the cost. My "grape salad" was 5 grapes with a very thin layer of yogurt sauce. Quich was decent size. But still left a bit hungry. Service was good Atmosphere was comfortable, clean and had lots of outlets so you could work and have your coffee. Enjoyed my time there. Would go back. read more

Bean Counter Cafe is one of my favorite places to go for a Saturday casual lunch. I'm really picky about my iced matcha and theirs is really great! I've tried many of their sandwiches and they are all very delicious. They are accommodating for gluten allergies as well which is a plus! We had breakfast here last week and enjoyed the space, coffee and again the breakfast. We usually have an omelet but we both decided to have the Ham and Jarlsburg Quiche, which I highly recommend. It was moist, but not like the eggs were runny. It was perfect, and the cheese added the best flavor. This small-town feel cafe in downtown Blue Springs has so much to offer. With an extensive menu and welcoming environment, I have a great experience every time I come in. This was my fourth or fifth time in. The service is always stellar and the food always tastes really fresh. This go round I had the turkey apple Panini with a side salad and a pistachio latte with almond milk. They also give you a small side of their cauliflower salad (think pasta salad), but you can't even tell it's cauliflower it tastes so good. I got an almond croissant to go, which was equally delicious. They are very wonderful at creating substitutes that work for your diet whether it's gluten-free, dairy free, etc. The food is delicious and I highly recommend. read more

The staff is super friendly and helpful. The baked goods look great and the space has ample seating for large crowds. I order a to go as I was heading to the office. I love the vibe of this place and I have not even eaten the food yet. We post an update after the meal but my first impression is this is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. I order a breakfast sandwich and a pastry. Just wanted to share my first impression. Excited to taste my meal. Follow Up After Meal - The food was good and not overly salty which is a plus for me. I enjoyed the pastry as an afternoon snack and it was great, I wish I had ordered two. The only issue as I reflect on this food experience is that I realized this place would be pricey for some people. The breakfast sandwich (croissant) and hash browns were $14.75 before tax for a whole sandwich and the pastry was $4.00. So $20 for a breakfast meal may be pricey for some families. I still believe this is a great place to visit in a small town setting. I really enjoyed my visit and food and will return next time I am in the area. read more

Let me start off with, I really wanted to give Bean Counter Cafe 5/5 stars, but, in my heart of hearts, I knew that wasn't a fair assessment of my first encounter with The Bean. In the middle of old downtown Blue Springs located on a corner of Main Street next to a Pizza Shop, Bean Counter Cafe is a beacon shining in a semi-desolate small downtown. It is obviously local, a small mom and pop business, with not much street appeal. However, once you're inside the surprisingly spacious coffee shop and cafe, you'll find yourself wanting to stay awhile. It's not incredibly "homey," but it's bright and airy and has some random elements of decor. You can tell decoration isn't where the owners put all their thought into, that's the food and drinks, and they are simple but delicious. Think sandwiches of all kinds, breakfasts, and salads, as well as a variety of coffee beverages. I feel like this is one of the cafes where everything on the menu is tasty. I had to go with my third choice, a warm turkey sandwich with granny smith apples, fresh basil pesto, and melted sharp cheese. But, I wasn't in the slightest upset with my "lunchbox" style sandwich. All in all, the experience at Bean Counter Cafe was a fun off the beaten path adventure, but there were little hiccups along the way. They were out of a few menu items, and our order originally did get switched around, we received one of the sandwiches we ordered twice instead of getting the two separate ones we ordered. I'm pretty sure our order got mixed up with the table next to us, but it was easily fixed. If I ever find myself close to this charming cafe, I will stop in again because, overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and I LOVE to support local. read more

Was sold on the seed oil free advertising however, the portions are pretty small and not all that special. Ordered a Reuben and a chicken pesto with salad and panini both were very small and lightly filled. Especially the Reuben had maybe 2 tablespoons of kraut. Salad is maybe 2 bites. Bummed I was really hoping this would be my new local health conscious spot but for the portions it's just not worth the pricing. read more

Remember the old Bean Counter cafe inside of Colonial Gardens? They have FINALLY reopened at a new location on Main St in Downtown Blue Springs! Woot woot! As expected, the food is fresh and homemade. Both breakfast and lunch are served along with an arrange of coffee of speciality drinks. They don't yet have a drink menu printed - but that's coming soon. I opted for a bear claw and house latte (similar to a cinnamon dolce). The latte was delicious and the bear claw - oh my! Butter, flaky and filled with a cinnamon streusel mixture, it was to do for! The hardest part was making up my mind what to have! Cannot wait to go back and try all the other delicacies! read more

Extremely disappointed with the service here. My order was screwed up, and instead of fixing the mistake, the staff expected me to pay for it. Reluctantly, I agreed to. Then when I tried to pay with cash, they told me I had to wait in the back of a very long line just to pay for their error. Zero accountability and very poor customer service. The worst part, you tip before you get your food. If you do go, I recommend not tipping until you are satisfied with your food and service. read more

I am so glad this place relocated and are open! They have great food and coffee. My favorite thing to get there is the blueberry lemon French toast! I really enjoy their seasonal latte's and their hash browns! If you do not come early on the weekends there may be a little bit of a wait but they are very efficient and the coffee comes very quickly to help the time pass by. It feel homey and I really appreciate the large coffee bar and local pictures on the wall. So happy to have a local breakfast joint in the area!! 10/10 from me:) read more

I don't eat here often, but I'm always so pleased with my meal when I do. The food is always so tasty and fresh. It's one of the things this restaurant boasts about, and they're not wrong. I've never had a bad meal, whether breakfast or lunch. The service is quick. They give you a number and bring it out. Pretty simple. You can tell the employee enjoy working here, and that's great to see! The location of this restaurant is perfect for exploring DTBS. The restaurant is very cozy and perfect when it's rainy out. Get a drink skip the food. The beverage menu had a tun of options and the elderberry refresher was good. The person that took my order was sweet but did know the ingredients in the dishes. I will be back to check out breakfast offerings and the house made desserts. Today wife and I stopped in for quick lunch. We loved this place at the garden center and are excited they are now downtown on Main Street. We each ordered and then shared the Reuben and Waldorf Chicken Salad. The Reuben was loaded with super thinly sliced tender corned beef and mild house made sauerkraut. (For me the sauerkraut while good was not sour or crisp like I like and I would have liked a mustard with more kick) The Waldorf Chicken Salad was good. Both sandwiches were served on delicious well toasted (panini pressed) bread.. I really enjoyed the house made fresh potato salad and the house made bread and butter pickles were excellent, not as sweet as most are. (I don't like the super sweet typical B&B pickles) Service was friendly and quick. I'll be back to explore the breakfast menu too. read more

I know the two stars is low and may come across poorly, however I'll explain why and if my maybe my issues aren't your issues. Let's start with the positives....cute place, nice people, good menu, coffee beans that I would normally like. Food was ordered and came out quickly. The pastry my wife ordered was yummy. So far so good. The coffee came out tasting like there wasn't any coffee in it. My son and I ordered the Irish cold brew, however I didn't taste any coffee, nor anything that could be considered Irish. The wife and daughter also ordered lattes, however they both also left their full coffees behind when we left. The wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, I ordered the two egg plate, sis ordered the waffle, and the boy ordered the southwest omelet. The overall feeling was that this is what it might be like to eat if you had recently had a heart attack and was forced by your doctor to be on a bland diet. It all looked very good but nothing tasted like much of anything. We try to eat new places regularly.....sometimes we hit it out of the park and other times you try something that makes you appreciate the good places. This was that. read more

This was a unique local brunch spot that I will absolutely be visiting again with a really subtle homegrown local vibe. You walk in, grab a menu from their counter and seat yourself. Once you sit you have all the time to look over their menu, which features some locally-sourced ingredients, and when you're ready you order and pay at the counter. Very affordable prices. My husband and I went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning and we were super impressed. My husband ordered the breakfast sliders and a caramel latte. We were surprised when the sliders came out because they were definitely much larger than slider size, which was fine with him. The sliders came with some super delicious hash browns. My husband also really enjoyed his coffee. I ordered the avocado toast with an over medium egg with a side of bacon and a pumpkin spice latte. I'm so happy for the BCC family, that they are finally reopened after they closed at Colonial Gardens. I always loved their fresh ingredients and pastry case selection. They also have many flavors to add to your coffee. My kids enjoyed their trust breakfast plates. I am very loyal to the Southwest omelet, which consistently delivers. We got the Bavarian cream pastry, which was very light on filling and a little dry. I also ordered The Michele, which is avocado toast with an egg on top. It was a whole avocado, sliced on a piece of wheat? bread, topped with a fried egg, and a side of olive oil? in a sauce cup. I prefer an avocado schmear, but the slices would've been fine had they been seasoned. The avocado needed some EBTB seasoning or at least a little sea salt and cracked pepper. I think that could've really taken it to the next level. I love the homey-diner feel and how much space there was inside. Food is ok but they are using the ' tablet of shame' at checkout so I won't ever go back. This is where they have a tablet with large print they broadcast to everyone standing in line to see how much you tip. It's extremely disrespectful to people. I always tipped in the past but find it offending to be shamed to do it in front of people. So now if I go in someplace and see them doing it I leave. People will wise up to it in time and won't go back. read more
