Cute country style restaurant not far from our hotel. It was oddly busy for a Thursday morning. We checked in at the hostess stand and was told 15 min wait but we were sat sooner. They have delicious looking pies and other baked goods in the showcase. Our waitress was friendly and took our drink order while we looked over the menu. I opted for the regular breakfast of bacon, eggs, hash-browns and toast. My sister ordered eggs with French toast that looked really good as well. The restaurant is super cute-there was a diner top area with stools, plenty of tables and booths throughout. Corner Cafe has such a cute atmosphere, very cozy "country grandma vibes" and it's usually a place we enjoy going to. We were seated right away as a party of 8, which was great for a larger group. Unfortunately, the experience this time was really slow when it came to food service. Our food took about 45 minutes to arrive, and we noticed smaller tables that were seated after us received their meals, ate, and left before we even got ours. Our server also walked past our table several times without giving any updates, which was frustrating while waiting. We typically go to the Liberty location because we've had better experiences there. This visit just wasn't the best, but we do like the overall vibe of the restaurant and hope service improves at this location. read more

We went for dinner. It took about an hour to get food. Several tables were seated, ate, and left before we got our food. It is completely unacceptable to receive service this slow. The food was good, but the fries had been under the warmer for much longer than it should have and felt soggy and lifeless. I would like to try the food again at a corner cafe with good service (this was my first time eating at corner cafe) The inside was very similar to most other brunch spots with a bit of a country theme. We got in and got seated pretty quick! I had the turkey and dressing, with a side salad that was HUGE. And green beans. It also came with a huge buttery dinner roll. The portion was huge of everything! They are a little pricier than comparable restaurants but not too high. They have the best chocolate pie! From the greeter to our server Brenda, we had a most agreeable experience. On a drizzly Sunday morning we stopped in for breakfast. Our party of 5 was quickly seated. Parking was a challenge as it was very busy. Our orders were taken quickly but food took awhile to come. I ordered a cappuccino. It was just ok. Sort of tasted instant and way too sweet. Good food and selection. Service good, but not great. A bit loud for easy conversation depending on where you're seated.

This place is very spacious and roomy. People were super friendly. But the best part was getting to sit in the silo. I may be 52 but felt like a kid getting to sit in there. If you want a cinnamon roll or sticky bun be prepared for a huge roll and it's super tasty. Everything else is typical breakfast finds, however very flavorful. I my family will be back!! read more

This use to be one of my favorite places to eat, but not now. I went with my gf this past week. It was cold outside so thought soup sounded good. All they had was vegetable beef that day which is one of my favorite soups. They sat the bowl down and grease was floating on the top, not a good sign. Very few vegetables but lots of beef with fat on it. I ate one carrot, one potato and one piece of the leanest beef I could find. Heavens was I sick if I had been a child I would have vomited in the bowl. I did keep it down but the soup is not worth $7 even with a huge roll. The nice thing is the waitress offered me something else but I was too sick to eat. So they didn't charge me which was a pleasant surprise. Not sure if I will ever go back. read more

Kicked off breakfast with coconut cream pie. Why wait have the pie! Finished with biscuits and gravy. The pie is so rich and creamy it's hard to believe. I always start with pie at Corner Cafe. Mainly eat breakfast here but who says chicken fried chicken isn't good at 7:30 am. Last time here it worked just fine. This time others in our party had omelettes, pancakes, bacon and hash browns. No complaints when the food is this good. As usual the parking lot and restaurant were packed. Somehow our server kept up with all our needs. The kitchen also had every order correct. Good job. We arrived at 8:20 and they close at 9:00 typically most restaurants would be dropping not so subtle hints to hurry up but not our waitress she kept refilling our drinks and gave us excellent service. Next was the food, we shared the onion rings as an appetizer and the breading was amazing and they were perfectly crunchy on the outside. We ordered the meatloaf sandwich, waffles and a slice of coconut cream pie. All together Corner Cafe checked off my three boxes for a restaurant great food, great service and great prices. The food was okay. I asked for the open-faced turkey sandwich, and my brother ordered the Corner Melt. The food arrived cold. The Turkey sandwich was tasteless--it tasted like a frozen turkey sandwich that had not been fully warmed up. The Corner melt was ok, but it was also cold. When we arrived, the hostess was missing from her station. I later found her sitting with another employee in the first booth on the right. Once I found her, she got us seated. The service was poor. Jason, our waiter, never asked us if we needed more drinks. We had to ask the manager for more water, coffee, and a check. As a long-time resident of Kansas City, this was not the Corner Cafe I remembered. I am disappointed with how my visit went. The only person who tried to make it more enjoyable was the manager. He found our server, refilled our drinks, and gave us our check. I spent $30.76 on dinner for two, and because of the poor service we received from the hostess and the waiter, I will not be back! read more

We had a wonderful breakfast here. Both the food and service were great. Started with some coffee and ordered quickly. Our food arrived fast. I got eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, with a side order of gravy. It was enough gravy for three of us to share. Everyone's eggs were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the hash browns. My wife got the corned beef hash with eggs. She loved the hash. Our friend got eggs and bacon with grits and cheese. She enjoyed the grits. They give you a lot of food. Very busy in an early Sunday afternoon, but the wait wasn't too long. Only about 20 minutes at most, which considering the number of people in the lobby you would have thought it'd be longer. Our server was great, prompt, and attentive. I'm always pleased to be blessed with a server who cares. She kept our waters refilled and asked each visit if there was something else we might need. Now let's get to the food. The cinnamon roll was the highlight of our visit. It was fresh out of the oven, plenty of icing. Delightful !! As for the pancakes, they were standard as well as the syrup. I chose to order a couple of chicken tenders (not pictured) to accompany them but didn't get the taste I was hoping for. Wanted the sweet and savory from the pancakes and the crunch and salty from the chicken. However, the chicken had a slight crunch but no seasoning. We've eaten at this restaurant a couple of times. Everyone seems on their feet. One particular employee stands out. She is very attentive and courteous. She exceeded our expectations. We got sat pretty instantly. The food came, almost instantly, as well. Hubs loved his French Toast Combo. We also ordered the fairly large Cinnamon Roll (Togo). I had the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. The Chicken Fried Steak had tons of chewy pieces . I had to spit them out. 5-10 mins after receiving the food, the server literally placed our check on the table. That just rubbed me the wrong way. I've patronized Corner Cafe' since there was only one in Riverside. Now, there are several around the city. Back in the day the restaurant used to serve wonderful, tasty dishes. Sad to say, all of the visits within the past year have been lousy, but the service at the Independence location makes up for the poor food quality/taste. The ambiance of my most recent trip was fine. There were plenty of customers and it was an all around pleasant atmosphere to dine in. This too made up for them dropping the ball for dinner. I've given more than one location a chance on more than one occasion so I'm resting my case with them. It's just time. Some things are for a reason, season or lifetime. I honestly would have to say that 98% of the food offered at the Corner Cafe is excellent. No restaurant can be excellent at everything, however. The one total downfall at this restaurant is the "chicken noodle soup." I don't like long reviews, so here is mine on this soup: Bland, all noodle (very little broth), and essentially, NO chicken. YUK!! My advice is to get chicken noodle soup at Strouds. Far and away the best in the city!! read more

Is there anything more tantalizing than walking into a restaurant and being greeted by the gigantic pastry case? I certainly don't think so! The hardest part of eating at Corner Cafe is deciding what's for dessert! This visit I actually stopped in for breakfast. That didn't stop me from ordering the sticky bun. It's HUGE - as in enough for two. It's a giant ball of cinnamon/sugar goodness covered in delicious sticky caramel sauce and topped with pecans. You should really try one. read more

Went there today after an appointment. Thought we'd have brunch. It was about 11:00AM. We both ordered the ham/cheese omelette. I had the hash browns and he had the grits. I had toast, he had a biscuit. Nothing was hot when it got to the table. The biscuit was so cold it just crumbled when he tried to cut it open. The omelettes were barely lukewarm and disgusting. Who just lays cheese on top of the eggs and hope they melt? This used to be one of our favorite places to eat, but after our experience today and paying $30.45, we will never go back. Who wants lukewarm food? This place has really gone downhill since we were there last. Our waitress, Amanda, took our order and never bothered to come back and check to see if we needed anything else or if everything was okay. A total failure on her part. I just visited corner cafe today and have never been so disappointed. A place I used to love has turned down hill! The prices have skyrocketed (we were looking at a $50 tab for a breakfast for 2), the portions were embarrassing, the service was terrible and very unfriendly, the atmosphere of the place was off, and the booths are barely functional anymore.
