This review is for the awesome lunch experience I had on Saturday-February 4th. ^__^ So, this doesn't happen to me very often lol, but I failed being prepared with some sort of meal-prep for my work day that day. When the time came, I decided to quick-search online what local sandwich shops were available not far from my work's location and discovered this cute, little place I've never heard of before. My first experience there I tried their corned beef sandwich with white bread, mayo, mustard, tomato and lettuce, and MAN-that was good! I honestly didn't know what to expect since it was a new place and all, but Gosh-that bread was ridiculously good! I will absolutely go there again in the near future to try more of their sandwiches and goodies! 0__0 Such an awesome experience being there was! This is a classic old deli. You order at the counter from a menu that includes a nice variety of deli and grilled sandwiches including old favorites like egg salad, fried fish and all the deli standards. We both ordered the grilled Reubens, my wife did the chips and drink combo while I did the fries and drink combo. The Reubens were excellent and the fries were the fatter crinkle cut kind and they came out nice and crispy. I'm glad we didn't miss this place. read more

It's hard to find a good sandwich in KC and this place does not disappoint. Having lived in Chicago makes me miss the deli experience. This has become my favorite spot, driving all the way from Midtown. I love the Club sandwich and they have a nice selection of donuts. Also burgers fries and malts. read more

After a visit to the Truman library, we were ready for lunch. Dave's was perfect. Sandwiches, chili, corn dogs, and baked items. The chicken salad sandwich was on homemade bread. Really tasty. At first glance, Dave's looks like your 'small-town' feel sort of place that serves standard food. Not the first place to pop in your mind. If it weren't for someone suggesting their breakfast to me, I probably would've never ended up in here. Glad I made it in though! Their bacon egg croissant is really good; you have egg muffin and biscuit options. They have both a breakfast and lunch menu along with an assortment of pastries. The wait time is fair. Classic deli to a T! The variety of the menu, amazingly friendly service and welcoming environment could be out of a movie. The portion sizes are very generous, you definitely get your money's worth. They put TLC in to their food so it's not the quickest but worth the wait. The crispy chicken sandwich is awesome and the ice cream is delicious! read more

I stopped by a nearby coffee shop and asked if there were any decent lunch spots in the area. They recommended Dave's and I headed over. I didn't have time to finish the coffee I had purchased and when they brought out my food the waitress told me that next time I would have to throw away any outside drink "because of COVID". I am not sure how my coffee is helping spread COVID, but whatever. Also, they put a Kraft single on my turkey club. That is not what I expect when I go to a deli. A quality sandwich does not include a Kraft single. read more

When we go to Independence, we usually wind up eating at Clinton's Drugstore -because if it was good enough for Harry Truman, it should be fine for the likes of peons like me. Today, however, I decided to try a new place and Dave's Bakery and Deli is it. There's not much ambience inside. It's just a big, well-lit room with plenty of tables and a few booths. There seemed to be a bit of everything on the menu; from burgers to grill cheeses, to sandwiches to cold salads. You get the picture. Nothing against Clinton's but this wide variety of foods to order was a definite difference from Harry's old haunt. It was a pleasant dilemma to need a few minutes to study all my options before deciding on what I wanted to eat. After I'd placed my order for a chicken salad on croissant I kept hearing people asking for the grill cheese. It's either a specialty for the place or folks just don't have much imagination in ordering. I suspect the former is true. I specifically asked that my sandwich not have any extra mayonnaise on it as I wondered if their chicken salad would be as wet and sloppy as what you get at Clinton's. The gal behind the counter assured me that they don't add condiments to the chicken salad, just grapes. The sandwich was fine. I also ordered fries and they were standard. No special seasoning or treatment, just your basic crinkle-cut fries. As I ate my lunch, I kept watching and listening to Yun, the lady behind the counter, who took my order. She was busy, friendly, and involved in everything going on around her. It seemed like she knew a lot of the people who came in for lunch. All in all, a great waitress. On a whim, I decided to get two cookies to eat later. OH.MY.GOSH. The Turkish Delight cookie was to die for. I have no idea what is in this soft and unbelievably tasty cookie, but I want more of whatever it is. read more

The order is sent to the kitchen immediately after you order and it is easy to see it being cooked while you wait. If you order a drink you can sip it while you watch or take a seat. I go there about once a week. The owners are always friendly. If you become a regular, they will learn your name and always greet you with a smile. The prices are competitive. You generally get your food fairly quickly, and it's one of the few places on the square you can do a 'grab and go' stop. The food is always good and fresh. The sandwiches are very good. Dave's bakery and deli was sort of a spontaneous lunch in the independence square, I had seen it on yelp and was in the area craving a good sandwich. I kinda stumbled upon it but wasn't disappointed, the inside is definitely a older , almost cafeteria like dinning area. Nothing fancy but it feels comfy. Large variety of stuff to get on the menu, I ended up getting the Rueben sandwich with some delicious sweet potato fries. They specialize in sandwiches but can whip up hotdogs, cheeseburgers, chicken and salads too. They also carry a large amount of baked goods and ice cream! If you have a sweet tooth it's worth stopping by here and checking out their selection, the rueben I ordered took a while to come out but wasn't a big deal as they were busy at lunch hour. The sandwich was warm, fresh bread, good quality beef and sauerkraut and sauce gave it a good kick. Would certainly try something else from Daves if I'm in independence area!! read more
