I stumbled upon blackhole by accident and am so glad I did. Just south of the plaza this bakery is incredible. It had so many options to choose from. Not least was their mochi donut selection. I thought maybe it would be filled something but to my surprise it was not. I think the best way to describe this donut is a combination between a dough and a marshmallow. It was delicious nonetheless. Finally what I originally craved: a cinnamon roll. I will say I prefer denser cinnamon rolls, but this was a lighter dough. Also still delicious and glazed and topped with cream cheese frosting. Highly recommend this place!
I had Blackhole Bakery on my list of places to try for the longest time and finally found myself in the area. There are SO many amazing looking options. Everything looked picture perfect. There are some unique items I hadn't seen before. We picked a few different items, and I have some others in mind for my next visit. Everything was delicious. I saw the spam musubi croissant on Instagram the day before and knew I had to order that. It did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a bit of a line but it moved quickly. Definitely make it a priority to make your way to Blackhole Bakery for the best pastries in KC.
I really wanted to give this place a 5 star review, but I couldn't because the birthday cake croissant made me vomit profusely after an hour of being in my stomach... the staff was super nice, the atmosphere was cute and cozy, and there were so many options to choose from as far as bakery items. Not sure what happened for me to Vomit up what I bought.... But not too bad of a place. Might have to give It another go.
Blackhole is so so good. I don't get out there very often. It might be a good thing though because I lose all self control when I step up to the counter. I always get some mochi donuts and also choose from whatever fruit pastry is available. You can't go wrong with a cinnamon roll either. The coffee's solid. They also offer a bottled spring water that I've seen anywhere else in town that I enjoy ordering.
Stopped by Blackhole Bakery to try their mochi donuts and finally see what the hype was about! I had the banana cream pie and watermelon, and my teen tried the orange and peanut butter pretzel. The texture was great, chewy and fun, but the flavors didn't quite pop as much as we expected. Still tasty, just a bit more subtle than we hoped. One thing to note: there's no indoor seating and no tables outside, which made it a little tricky since we were hoping to hang out for a bit. Ended up eating in the car, and these donuts are a little messy (pieces of the glaze flake off), so definitely not the easiest on-the-go treat. That said, the person working the counter was friendly, and I enjoyed the positive energy he gave off. I'll be back...a cinnamon roll is next on my list!
The pastries are insane - you won't find more intricate and elevated flavors in the metro area. And the staff is so funny and kind! They're never frustrated about a customer wanting help with decisions. And when they found out it was my mom's birthday a couple years ago, they threw in a birthday cake pop tart for free! Good people, great food. Totally worth the stop in.
I don't know what had taken me so long to try this place out. It's definitely out of the way, but the trip was worth it. I also recommend coming in early to get the goodies you want before they sold out for the day. It's spacious, quaint, and homemade. I got their spam musubi, blueberry criossant, peach mochi ball, and brownie. It was all so good. Gotta go back and try their other pastries good too.
As expected there was a line (around 9.30 am Saturday), Cute little place offering Mochi donuts, a variety of croissants, Bagels & coffee. You can also preorder and pickup the pastries in the morning if you want. I ordered an everyday bagel with Jalapeño spread, Brioche Cinnamon roll loaf, Blueberry parfait & Red velvet croissant. Cinnamon roll loaf and Bagel was a clear winner! Croissant was fresh on the outside but a little hard on the inside. Blueberry parfait was okay. Staff were nice and welcoming! Prices were reasonable too! Would love to try other croissants next time.
I was so impressed by the baked goods at Blackhole Bakery that I regret not coming back for another round before my drive back to Bentonville. There was a staggering variety of fresh bread, donuts, croissants, and other packaged breads and granola in the store, which also serves coffee. I had decision paralysis, so at the kind cashier's recommendation, we ended up getting a biscuits and gravy croissant, a halva-pistachio chocolate chip cookie, and four mochi donuts (we got lemon poppyseed, mango black tea, raspberry hibiscus, and...I forget the last one). Everything was fantastic and blew my expectations out of the water. After having eaten breakfast already, we only had room for the cookie. It was the perfect texture--crispy edges and chewy interior with very rich, pistachio, sesame, and chocolate flavor. We had the mochi donuts for dessert later that night, and they were unlike any mochi donut I've had before. The mochi donuts I am used to are from Mochinut, a dessert chain that serves small, fluffy, pull-apart mochi donuts covered with different flavors of icing that are typically too sweet or artificial tasting. These mochi donuts were between the size of a golf and tennis ball and had a much denser, chewier texture with a crispy, fried exterior. They reminded me of the exterior of glutinous rice dumplings you can get at dim sum, which is one of my favorite things to order. We couldn't decide which flavor we liked the most because they were all equally good. The next morning, we shared the biscuits and gravy croissant. I am someone who holds the opinion that eating a croissant the next day is a cardinal sin, but the croissant held up surprisingly well. I thought that the filling would make it soggy, but it still retained its crispy layers and tasted just like a portable, flaky version of biscuits and gravy. I would come back in a heartbeat.

My sister and I both had a sunflower plum galette and we split the peanut butter pretzel and pistachio mochi donut. Each item is well made, fresh and delicious. It's honestly probably safer for my waistline that I don't live closer!
We stopped in at Blackhole Bakery on a late Sunday morning. There was a line to the door but it went very quickly. There were so many things that we wanted to try that we struggled to narrow it down but we ended up ordering two mochi donut holes, a Local Pig beer brat sausage roll, a spam musubi croissant, a fresh fruit puff and a blueberry croissant and a bagel. Everything was amazing and fresh. I was surprised that the spam musibi croissant was my favorite out of all of the pastries that we tried. My second favorite was the sausage roll. I am already planning to return because there are so many other things that I would like to try!
Blackhole bakery is worth the hype and worth showing up early for. They know what they're doing and they do it well. What appears to be a mom and pop bakery is actually a baker who has carefully done his research and brings himself up to date on the latest trends of flavor in the baking world. The vibes are amazing - I especially love the art piece on the wall he commissioned from a local artist. I saw the Instagram page with several posts explaining how he did each part. Everything was absolutely delicious (I am biased with the ham and gruyere cheese since that is a favorite combo of mine), the danish was delicious (I could tell maybe it uses veryberryosa - a recent trend in baking to be used as filling), and the same was probably on the cinnamon roll looking crossaint. Now the grand prize - the mochi donuts were spectacular. The flavors I got were raspberry almond (my #1 favorite I got twice), cereal (this was carefully curated and not too sweet like most cereal based baked goods), Irish coffee (didn't taste like coffee, gave it to a friend) and the mango black tea was also a slam dunk for me. The staff are incredibly friendly here which is a huge plus! read more

Fast and friendly and delicious ! They're on the more pricey side for a bakery but worth every single penny! They have street parking only, lots of options of baked goods and coffee as well. The cheese danish is one of my absolute favorites! read more

Yummy yummy yummy! I'm sooooo happy we made the drive and came to Blackhole for a quick and easy breakfast! I'm already planning my next trip when we get back to KC! Everything was fresh, the guy behind the counter was very friendly, and recommended many items! There is complimentary street parking out front. read more
I am so glad I finally stopped in. This place is cute and quaint. It's not an air in bakery but it feels homey and makes you want to stay awhile. Customer service is great! The pastries look so good and I promise they taste just as good. I ordered the spiced orange and butterscotch mochi. It was my first time have mochi and it's very good. I also ordered the cinnamon role and omg it's so good. I also ordered the fresh fruit puff very good! I will be back but I will need to jog there and back for caloric purposes. read more

Street parking isn't too hard to find in the area as long as you don't mind the tiniest bit of a walk. I've tried a couple of their mochi donut balls which have a spot-on mochi donut texture but are too sweet for me. I came during a weird time when both flavors on offer didn't appeal to me (movie butter popcorn? meh.) so I also got some of their garlic bread to bake at home ($11). The garlic bread was so buttery that the top bit was practically wet after baking, but the melted butter didn't really make it through to the rest of the bread. The sesame seed crunch was a nice touch. read more

I've been seeing blackhole bakery all over Instagram for like a year. My fiancé and I often go to high hopes ice cream across the street but we just aren't over in this neighborhood in the morning most of the time. But today we finally found an excuse to get over there for breakfast and holy cow is this place delicious! Much like high hopes, they have extremely interesting pastry flavor combinations. My fiancé was exceptionally excited because of all of the Middle Eastern inspired flavors both the cookie that I had, and the apricot pastry that he bought, were very pistachio forward and he loved them. I loved the biscuit and gravy croissant. I also enjoyed the carrot cake mochi doughnut. I don't know that I would get it again just because of all the different flavors and that carrot cake is more my fiancé's preference, but I loved the texture. It's very lucky that I don't live anywhere near this bakery because otherwise it would be very dangerous! For reference we got there at about 9 AM on a Saturday. The line moved quickly and the team that was working. Today was very friendly. The shop is very cute, that would be nice that there were someplace for people to sit and eat pastries, but we just ate in the car. It seems to me there's not a clunk on the menu so highly recommend checking it out and buying a few things just so you can sample all the goodies. So glad that Instagram didn't leave me astray! read more

Run, don't walk here! And make sure to get here right as they open or you risk them running out of all the best stuff! Every once in a while you come across a hidden gem, and this bakery is it for sure. Imagine a beautiful Saturday morning, 7:50 AM (they open at 8) and a line of 30 or so people begins to form. That was here, pic for reference too. There is a cult following here and for good reason. I tried all the mochi donuts because why not- favs were the birthday cake and pistachio. Also had the palmier, ube tea cake, and cinnamon roll. Could've tried everything but will save for next time. Probably one of the best bakeries in KC and there are a lot of exceptional ones. Pro-tip, can call in order day before and walk right in to grab it already made up. Downside you don't get to look at all the goodies in the case. Final review: 5/5 stars read more
The bakery shop itself is super cool very fun atmosphere. Cool decorations the people working behind the counter are friendly and knowledgeable. We went specifically for the mochi doughnut holes, which I was a little disappointed by I was expecting the texture of mochi doughnuts that you get in Japan. They were still good just not what I would call a mochi doughnut (though I'm sure they are made with mochi flour) But the pastries! They were superb. I would go back there and try one of everything. Wow the flavor of these things was amazing. The blueberry croissant was the best thing I've ever had with blueberries. When you walk in you are greeted by such kindness awesome people better food, was my first time asked for recommendations and was not disappointed. Well lit shop n banging food highly recommend.Fruit puff was amazing as well the flavors just explode in your mouth wasn't overly sweet either! read more

It's a tiny shop - there's no seating, just a counter to order from. Come early if you want anything - I showed up at 11am and there were barely any pastries left aside from some croissants and plain bagels. According to the staff, they said usually if you come before 10am you should have better luck. You can also pre order and pick up your order without having to wait in line. They do have some premade items you can buy as well (granola, breads, jams/preserves). Regardless, the staff were super friendly. I got 2 croissants - my point of comparison is Ibis bakery (also here in KC). Gotta say, it's pretty tough - I liked blackhole's chocolate croissant more because there was more chocolate flavor and chocolate filling. However, ibis's almond croissant is huge compared to this one, and I liked theirs better. Overall, both croissants were very airy and flakey with lots of layers, which is what I want from a croissant. I'd definitely come back, because I've seen the other unique pastries they've made on their social media pages. Gotta go earlier next time! read more
