I'm new to the area and that means I get to walk to the square and experience all that's here. That meant the day after Thanksgiving we went on adventure. By our luck the Courthouse Exchange was open. In our party of three one got the soup and salad bar, the soup was good according to her, but just a lot of celery. My other friend got the BLT, he said it was great! Myself, I got the messy fries in an entree portion. All were good and we all raved about how good the bacon was. We all had a round of beer and that was fresh and delicious. I definitely plan to get back and try more of the menu. Oh did I mention our server was delightful and attentive.

At bottom right chicken fried chicken. Fish (cod) n' chips. Baked potato. Bailiff's fried chicken. Turkey bacon avocado sandwich. Center is fried pickles and onion strings. The food was excellent. Lindsey was our server. She provided great service. She was very politely attentive. Ambiance was inviting. It had that old history feel. The mural painting on the walls and pictures they displayed the history of Independence. My family and I will definitely return and the rest of the menu.

This place is located in downtown Independence directly across from the Truman Courthouse. When you enter, you walk down some stairs to the restaurant located below street level. It has a very casual atmosphere, and a home style menu with the usual American cuisine. The open faced hot roast beef sandwich was excellent. Even better, the chocolate cake was amazing. Service was outstanding! Very attentive. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

This review is for the experience my brother and I had on Wednesday, December 13th. My brother and I got together that day at Game Café for a couple hours and decided to get something to eat at the neighboring restaurant before visiting some more family. ^__^ We were both relieved for how slow it was there that day! Only a couple other booths were being used during our lunch, so getting settled came naturally, along with our interaction with our waitress. She was very kind and welcoming, which made things even more comfortable. My brother ordered a specialty buffalo chicken mac'n cheese bowl of some sort and I chose to get 2 sides to enjoy as a meal. BOTH SIDES WERE EACH A MEAL !! lol.. Huge sides they were! You could easily fill up on one side order of them sweet potato fries Or deep-fried mushrooms. Both of which are safe go-to's for me if I see them on any menu.. I do enjoy my deep-fried mushies. ^_^ Because it was so slow that afternoon, it was easy to capture decent snapshots of their business. It's a little too dark for my personal liking, but it was alright. Well kept and neat it was. I didn't love their fried mushies, but I still enjoyed them, and had plenty to take home with me after our time there lol. I might return to try something else on their menu. Perhaps after another Game Café visit.

It was a busy night but the service was good over all. The food was hot and the chicken on the sandwich was HUGE! They could have given you two buns to make it perfect. This a bar restaurant mix and out door patio. Had the fried mushrooms as well but forgot to capture it sorry to say. They were great!

We randomly found this place and decided to come in. It has a very speakeasy vibes with the stonewalls but it was cool! My husband had the buttermilk honey fried chicken and I had the country fried steak. Both were super crunchy and delicious! Mine was better though! We got our food pretty fast so service was efficient! We'll have to come back if we're ever on this side of town.

Great food, but the service was a bit slow. It wasn't crazy busy just not attentive. Not the usual service we usually receive.

They went specifically for the butter pecan cheesecake that is on Mcallisters online menu. When the family arrived and ordered, the staff said they "had it in the back but were not putting it out for sale yet." They didn't know when they would. Seriously? I see two things wrong with that. #1: don't have it on the menu if you are not going to sell it. #2: if it is in the "back" but not out for sale and they don't know when it'll they will be able to put it out, it is probably a pre-made frozen gross texture anyway. Fast forward to today. My dad and sister went there again and ate, then brought lunch home to my mom and I bc I had ankle surgery and was unable to go. He tried to order the butter pecan cheesecake again today and was told they are still not serving it. Note that it is still on their menu. It is very disappointing and probably some form of bait and switch or false advertisement as well.

Bay Boy is THAT Boy! I'm thrilled to have another location of Bay Boy in the Northland, which is…read moresuch an up and coming neighborhood. This Bay Boy is a small window located inside The Commons which is connected to Cinderblock Brewery but, don't be fooled by its small stature it still carries the full menu of the West Plaza location. The one thing it boasts is you can grab a brew from with The Commons bar or from Cinderblock while your sandwich is crafted. And don't fret because these sandwiches are well worth any wait they may take! What makes Bay Boy utterly unforgettable is the Dutch crunch bread. This unique crackly slightly crunchy but still, oh so pillowy soft bread is the perfect vessel to hold all the fillings of any of the sandwiches on the extensive menu. My number one recommendation sadly is not always on the menu but if you catch it you better order it! It is called The Blue Blaze and it consists of juicy white meat turkey, peppery arugula, melty mild white cheddar and locally sourced spicy blueberry jam. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory with a kick. Another winner is the Wagyu Nebraskan if you want a bougie take on a Rueben. The Wagyu corned beef is locally sourced and is melt in your mouth paired with a slightly sweet kraut, nutty Swiss cheese and the tangy thousand island this sandwich is an elevated take on a classic. Another winner, well let's just face it any sandwich at Bay Boy is a winner winner chicken dinner (in the words of the iconic Guy Fieri), but let's focus on another rift of a classic sandwich the El Jefe. This is Bay Boy's take on a Cubano but unlike its predecessor the bread isn't flat or pressed it's on a Dutch crunch roll like every sandwich on the menu. The mojo pork is buttery and fatty- in a good way- making the meat so moist that combined with salty ham, melted Swiss and zingy briny pickles makes for a killer combination. Don't forget the mustard! And how Bay Boy makes it there own is with an addition of a zesty vibrant red pepper sauce. You can't help but to love El Jefe. I could go on and on about how each sandwich is unparalleled but, I'll just bore you with one more...The Bay Boy, I couldn't cover Bay Boy's without mentioning the sandwich that the restaurant was named after (or was it the other way around) anyways it doesn't matter. The Bay Boy is a cold sandwich (unlike the other ones I mentioned which are all toasty) which may sound simple but, the medley of flavors is paired down perfection. No pile of meats just stand alone Soppressata which shouldn't need any introduction because it's the superior salami. This sandwich gets sauced down with not one, not two but four sauces that make the sandwich anything but dry. Classic mayo and mustard are alongside a creamy pungent garlic sauce and a red pepper sauce, which is a mix of cherry and banana peppers. Then produce is added for freshness, think lettuce, tomato and zippy raw red onions (my personal favorite) with pickles of course! This truly is a sandwich masterpiece.

It's a walk-up window, super lowkey, but the food is not playing. I got a turkey sandwich with gouda and peppers, added blueberry jam, and grabbed a bag of chips on the side. The bread is really what sets it off. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and it actually holds everything together. The turkey and gouda were solid, peppers gave it a little bite, and that blueberry jam added just enough sweetness to balance everything out without being weird about it. I paused after the first bite because it caught me off guard in a good way. Finished the whole thing, chips and all. Simple setup, really good food, and I'll absolutely be back.

I thought the brisket sandwich was fairly tasty, but it wasn't huge, the onions weren't carmelized they were grilled, and the brisket wasn't smokey. The Mac and cheese was fine and good but not great. If I lived closer and I could get the above with a soda for $20-23, I would give it 4 stars. There's nothing amazing about it to earn 5 stars even if it were priced like I wish. The place wasn't that busy, but with one register running, 4 people in line, and ringing up 2 butcher orders that came in after I was there, it took me about 12 minutes to place the order and another 20 to have my sandwich and side.
