Popeye omelet hash browns and toast

Great food and service. Atmosphere is lacking but its a greasy spoon diner kinda place. Food is good!

Very friendly, got the French toast. It was excellent. They have specials throughout the year, depending on season. Place a small, very cheap seating, but they do have to go and that's very good

Half Big John Breakfast without the requested corned beef hash.
Patricia K.

Went here for an early breakfast and ordered a half order of the Big John, and subbed in the corned beef hash. Even for a half order, the portion size is plenty big. The coffee was hot and fresh, and I didn't feel the need to add cream or sugar, so that was a plus. They forgot the CBH and quickly fixed the problem. I didn't really have a problem with anything about this venue, it was not anything spectacular either though. I definitely got the feel of a "Mom & Pop" neighborhood diner, which I appreciated. Our waitress was friendly and dropped by to check on us occasionally, so I never needed to flag her down. It was not crowded at all, but I have feeling this place has regulars.

I came here several months ago, and had forgotten to leave my review. This place was memorably good, as far as both food and service. The only reason my and my family came here was because I had a restaurant.com certificate for this restaurant, but had found out there was some error between restaurant.com and this place. Regardless, we ordered our food. My husband had a standard breakfast, and enjoyed his food. I had a very tasty West Coast Omelet, but the most impressive was my son's "Smokin Ring" hamburger. I took a picture to show what it looks like. He loved his burger, as it satisfied his big boy appetite. I'm looking forward to going back to try some other items.

Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs Breakfast
Alton B.

Very pleased with the portion size. The country fried steak was tasteful and eggs were cooked as asked. Service was pretty good and this place had a nice setting.

Dining room. Probably less than 12 tables.

Breakfast was out quick and delicious. Big portions. Service was great. Small quaint place. The wait is worth it. There are less than 15 tables.

I found out about this divey brunch spot from a lively conversation on an airplane to Kansas City and had been excited to check it out since. I finally made it in and while it was solid brunch fare at an affordable price, I wasn't as blown away as I was hoping. Everything was good but nothing to write home about. Overall It's good place if you are looking for a no frills local spot to grab breakfast or brunch.

The fries here are world class. Everything was delicious, but the fries are worth a long drive to get to.

Great little local joint with home cooked breakfast. Nothing fancy, just good food. Nice, friendly staff, too!

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with friendly, attentive service and a board full of nightly specials that makes choosing just one thing a challenge. While we've worked our way through a good chunk of the menu, a few favorites keep calling us back: the pretzels with beer cheese dip (dangerously good), the pork tenderloin sandwich, fish & chips, and the chicken fried chicken. And don't even get me started on the specials -- meatloaf, lasagna, caprese salad, lobster & shrimp ravioli... they nail it every time. And there's still more -- we haven't even made it to the burgers and pizza yet! This is one bar that truly gets bar food right. I'm no Gordon Ramsay, but I have a feeling even Mr. Hell's Kitchen himself would give a nod of approval. The dishes are high quality, packed with flavor, and always leave you planning your next visit before you've even finished the last bite. My wife and I have a saying: if it's crave-worthy, it's noteworthy -- and Southside checks that box every time. Forget about eastside or westside... Southside is where it's at.

Decent option for dinner…read more I stopped by earlier this week on my first night in town, and sat at the end of the bar. The bartender served me a Guinness (on tap, of course!) and then recommended the Monday Steak Night special ($60) - a prix fixe option which included a salad plus one of four types of steak, sides, and dessert. I opted for the house salad (with sherry vinaigrette dressing), the hangar steak (he was selling it hard!), sautéed green beans, and lemon meringue pie. The house salad was superb, with delicious chunks of goat cheese! I also enjoyed the sautéed green beans, loaded with sliced almonds and fresh garlic. The hangar steak was probably the most disappointing, and solely responsible for this review not earning 5 stars. I took half of it to go along with half of the green beans. The lemon meringue pie looked delicious but I could not eat another bite, so that also went into a to-go container. Back in my hotel room that night, working late as I was jet lagged, I ate that pie. OMG! PURE HEAVEN!! And the main reason this review earned 4 stars! Will be back for the salad and green beans and pie! And some Guinness on tap, of course!!

Overpriced chicken, a stellar mushroom side, and an aggressive exit strategy…read more After some custom cocktails nearby, our famished group headed to Rye for some dinner and dessert. The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.

Scotch Eggs in Leawood?…read more Located in a suburban strip mall around 129th and State Line in Leawood, there is ample parking in the communal lot. Stepping inside the atmosphere is that of a real (modern) Irish pub, with a full bar and comfortable tables. An old wood and leather feel that sets the stage for authentic Irish fare. Having been to their restaurant in Westwood, I have to say that I like this location better - it just "feels" better. Being part of a group of about 20 for lunch, we were seated in a separate room which made socializing easy without bothering the other customers. After being welcomed by our waiter, menus passed out and drink orders taken, we were informed that their chef was from Dublan and that dishes were made fresh in-house. While I did see Scotch Eggs (I like to think of them as an Irish version of an Egg McMuffin) on the menu, I jumped on their Fish & Chips. The breaded North Atlantic Cod was moist and flakey at the same time, with a great flavor. Included was slaw, mushy peas, and their house cut fries (all very tasty). A dash of malt vinegar and a squeeze of lemon later and I was loving it all! Portions were all pretty large, so come hungry and expect to leave satisfied. Prices are well within expectations considering quality of service, food, and atmosphere. Having been a waiter "back in the day" I was impressed with the friendly and efficient service. Not once did I see anyone waiting overly long for drink refills or their meals. That is very comforting during these "post COVID" times of reopening and short staffing. Kudo's to all involved. It is nice to see a true Irish pub in the middle of Leawood. With this one and the one on Rainbow being about the same distance from my Lee's Summit home, expect to see me returning often. Next time I will try their Scotch Eggs!

Place is the bomb. Food is amazing, atmosphere is perfect and the service is the best.read more
