Mildred's is easily one of my favorite coffee/breakfast spots in Kansas City. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food actually has flavor, the portions are satisfying, and the staff keeps things moving even when they're busy. Their breakfast options and baked goods are especially good, and it feels like you're actually getting something worth your money. I've tried other popular cafés around KC -- Banksia included -- and Mildred's just does it better for me. Banksia has the cute café aesthetic but the food itself is honestly pretty subpar for the "hype" if there's any-- nothing terrible, just consistently underwhelming and not memorable enough to justify how highly it's talked about. but Mildred's gives you the aesthetic and food I'd genuinely come back for. Sometimes "pretty brunch spot" and "good brunch spot" are two different things. Definitely recommend Mildred's if you want a laid-back coffee shop with good food, good energy, and a menu that delivers. read more

I went to 2 locations on different days and the food and service was great at both. I don't drink fancy coffee but the drip coffee was good at one and the americano was good at the other. I had the standard with a fruit cup and it was good. The next day I had the chipotle burrito and it was a little better. read more

We have seen this pop up a million times on our searches, but the line has always been extremely long and we didn't want to wait it out. Today, we took advantage of this location next to our hotel and I'm soooo happy we did! Delicious! Snug restaurant on the inside, with several tables set up almost communal. I don't mind that at all. Very nice use of a small space. We ordered a breakfast sandwich and a burrito with two drip coffees. The coffee is free refills and was a pretty legit cup. The food was the shining star! I dig all over a breakfast burrito and this one hit the spot. The husband loved his sausage, egg sandwich. The egg was cooked perfectly! I know, that's a weird sentence. lol Just trust me. Really pleasant counter service and lots of interesting choices on their menu. I appreciate being able to get a sandwich on gluten free bread. However, I found the guacamole chicken club to be quite boring. The ingredients are lovely: hunks of chicken and fresh spinach leaves and nice crispy bacon, but the guacamole is pretty tasteless. My dining companion got the Caesar salad and I used a little of her dressing on my sandwich...it is delicious. Not sure I would rush back as my sandwich was $15, and i realized later, they didn't even include the potato chips that are supposed to come with it. read more

I'm not sure what took me so long to try out this location, I guess I'm not often downtown by the library a lot, but if you find yourself in the area Mildred's is going to be your best bet for fresh food and great coffee. The ambiance here is wonderful. They've maintained some of the old building's charm, and there is plenty of room to find a table for a meeting. The wifi was good, the iced coffee I had was delicious, and the folks working were really kind. Without a doubt this a worthwhile stop if on the hunt for coffee downtown. read more

My breakfast sandwich, while simple, was made with such fresh bread and tender egg - not to mention their aioli-like spread that was heavenly. I've been to this location so many times because it's near my work and they always get it right. This location gets so busy because it is one of the few places in the area that is not only reliable but also affordable. My go-to is the BLT and pretty much my regular order unless I decide to go for something completely different. The best part is you can do half sandwiches and you still get a bag of chips with it even if you do get half. Mildred's is always great stop when I'm in KC :) I haven't been to the downtown location before, my usual is the location in the Crossroads. The downtown location has ample seating and they have chargers in the wall bench! They also have great, FREE wifi for remote workers. Now for the food and drink! I ordered a matcha latte with almond milk and vanilla syrup with a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. Both items come out in a timely manner and are delicious! Kudos to the workers here, especially the woman at the counter who was on her first shift! It's downtown so hard to find a spot, and you have to pay unless you get it validated at the nearby library and only stay an hour. read more

The standard, chipotle wrap and sausage breakfast sammie all have been mastered. The lunch sandwiches are epic too. Personal favorite being the turkey Swiss with cranberry dijionaise. And the kicker is my sweet grandma's name was Mildred, and she was always so happy and insisted on feeding everyone. Its downtown spot is a staple for us, my son and partner all love it. The food was really tasty and fresh. Service was fine, and the place has ample seating. I felt like the pricing was extremely fair for the quality of the food. My issue was with the perceived cleanliness and especially the abhorrent food handling as I sat watching the kitchen during and for a time following my lunch. The woman working the pass, packing to go orders and finishing and serving plates to in house diners, would not stop touching her face and hair, wiping her nose and apparently having an issue with her mouth as she kept playing with it. Mildred's is my go to coffee shop for so many things from my morning brew to lunch, and we even had our post-wedding brunch here in the outside ally (open house style). It can get busy / difficult to get a seat at times because it's so popular but just be patient and something will open up and it will be worth the wait. I love their standard breakfast sandwich, homemade granola bar if I'm not AS hungry, and for drinks the Milly's Au Lait and their Mango Iced Tea are divine! I was disappointed to find the picture did not accurately represent the product. The taste was not what I expected, with my kids being the first to notice an unpleasant flavor. Upon trying it myself, I found it tasted similar to sour old milk. When I reported this to the cashier, she seemed unbothered. Despite my explanation, she claimed the product was made fresh daily. My request for a refund was processed, but without any apology or offer of a replacement, highlighting the staff's lack of professionalism. The cashier only showed interest when she saw me taking photos. I'm withholding a star specifically for the acai parfait and the staff member's poor attitude.
