Veggie cheese omelet, hash browns, sausage and cheese omelet, fried cauliflower and 1 slice of French toast
    Nanci G.

Let me tell you why I rated this as a 5 star. Our server, Brandy, was just awesome. Very honest about the food and how to even ordering style. The omelets were cooked to perfection and we both loved our food. You can ask for say your hash browns to be cooked lightly otherwise they come out like straw. Good to know. My husbands biscuit was not over huge but soft and fluffy just how he likes his. This was our first time trying fried cauliflower and it was very tasty loved it. At the end of our breakfast I just had to sample the peach cobbler with ice cream. Yumm. Now as I waddle out of this establishment I bid good bye, but we will be back.

I enjoyed the friendly helpful service of their wait staff. The cafe was still very new and clean. The decor is a western ranch theme (obviously) with a splash of racy pictures of pinup type girls on the walls. The seating is ample. IMHO The menus have way too much in the way of advertisements on them. The ads take up at least a third to half the menu space. I ordered the Philly omelet with jalapenos. It was very tasty with a generous portion of beef and cheese. The cottage fries that I ordered with it were interesting. I don't think I have ever eaten sliced potatoes for breakfast. All in all, my trip to this cafe was pretty good. I look forward to returning soon.

We had to wait 40 minutes between receiving our appetizers and our entrees with nary a waiter in sight to fill our cups. Tack on another 30 minutes before desserts and then yet another 30 to receive our check. Of course, we get hit with an auto-gratuity of 18% for our large party which I don't mind paying because it is standard. However, entirely unprompted, our server reminds us to leave them a tip as they don't receive any of the 18% auto-grat. You're telling me that, at a place that nickel-and-dimed us to pay for 50 cent SAUCES, that you want me to tack on an extra 100 buckaroos of gratuity on-top of the automatic GRATUITY? Are you insane? In the moment, I was clearly taken aback. I did not know what to say, so I simply took a good look at our server, before writing a big bold zero on the tip line and handed it back to him. Gave him a smile as I saw his face drop. There is no way in hell I could be compelled to pile on a tip on-top of the 18%. The server was either lying or the business is run by a bunch of pitiless plunderers. Either way, I wish I asked to see a manager about getting the auto-gratuity removed as well for lack of service.

The women working the cashier was very kind and helpful. Absolutely fantastic quality of food and coffee! Our whole group was impressed with everything that we ordered. The stand out was the bacon Gouda sandwich on some phenomenal ciabatta bread. The bagel was outstanding. The pastry case was drool worthy and we'll have to come back to eat through it. Price wise its a bit on the pricey side but worth it for the quality you're receiving. Lots of free street parking available. It's small but not too small with the outdoor and upstairs seating. I was quickly greeted by the very friendly staff after walking in. I asked "what's the best thing on the menu if I was never to be here again (I'm a driver and likely won't)" and she said the bacon Gouda and boy oh boy was it good! The bacon was very high quality and so was the bread. The cheese was super melted and made the almost garlic buttery mayo taste even better. I would highly recommend it and would recommend this place!!

I could describe every experience with this restaurant but I'll leave you with the previous few. And I know what you're thinking, if the food was so bad, why do you keep going back? Well, hope and optimism. Rooting for Roots! We want the local place to succeed, but we've come to the conclusion that what they really need in order to improve, is honest feedback. But part of me hopes that it changes nothing. And here's why... my wife and I love this place. But in a weird way... allow me to explain, imagine the place as a Saturday Night Live sketch where the staff, the menu and ambiance are unapologetically pretentious, but the food doesn't deliver on any level. It's pure entertainment. We have dinner and an inside joke. First of all, for the price, you naturally expect elevated dishes and excellent service. We both had a cocktail, a glass of wine with dinner, an appetizer, entrees, salad and desert. Around $250 with tip. Pricey, but reasonable if the place delivers. On one visit we had the duck, which was served undercooked and when we mentioned it to the waiter, she scoffed, "that's the way it's supposed to be served." So feeling duly chastised for our ignorance, we shut up and ate the duck. I don't know the organism involved, but my wife and I were up all night vying for access to the bathroom. Enough said. Things were dicey, but no trips to the hospital. Six months or so had passed and finally, last night we rolled the dice and tried Roots again. My wife said her dinner was fine. She had stuffed salmon, adequate, but not great. For me, It was between the steak and the pork belly. Now I had the steak before once and it was... well it was definitely a steak. I'm not going to say much about it except for this... if you like the taste of a good glass of water, order the steak. So having experienced the steak already, I ordered the pork belly, which is an extremely tasty and forgiving cut of meat in my experience. But somehow at Roots, they figured out how to prepare it poorly. Yikes! It was dry as a bone, but only in the places where it wasn't tough as shoe leather. It had to have sounded like a rock when it hit the plate. The naturally rich flavor was cooked completely out of it, and any surviving seasonings were successfully burned away during the cremation process. I was starving so I made a valiant effort at finishing it, but it took several glasses of water and an inordinate amount of chewing. My wife laughed at me the whole time. I offered her a bite but she demurred, quipping that it had been a long week and she simply didn't have the energy. It was served with a "slaw" that consisted primarily of a plain sliced onion and slices of flavorless apple devoid of seasoning or dressing. I honestly don't know how this dish made it out of the kitchen, let alone a chef's imagination. It has become a quest for my wife and me. Like the holy grail of dining experiences, only a few minutes from our home. Ever the optimists, we will just keep trying Roots again every six months or so and hope for better on each trip... or not. If you're looking for a unique dining experience, please try Roots. We want them to succeed so we can keep coming back and having these comically terrible experiences. If pretentious irony is your spirit animal, please try roots. And Roots, please keep trying. We will keep spending $250 bucks for "dinner" and a show. PS, to add to your experience, ask for a booth when you arrive for your reservation, they will look you up and down and politely say "no" as they walk you past 4 empty booths. No explanation...

I stopped in with my girlfriend Lisa, who loves this place so much they basically have a little corner reserved for her. She likes to work from there because the Wi-Fi is good, the vibe is comfortable, and the food is consistently amazing. We sat at the bar, had a couple glasses of wine, and Austin took great care of us. Lisa had the steak special, which was the ribeye, and I had the salmon. Both were really, really great. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was exactly why I keep coming back. One small callout: there was a $3 difference between what the salmon was listed for on the menu and what I was charged. I let Austin know so they could catch it for future guests. It did not change my overall experience, but I appreciated being able to mention it. Brandon, one of the co-owners, is amazing. He came out and spoke with us, and that personal touch is part of what makes Roots feel special. You can tell they care about the food, the service, and the people who come in. Their happy hour is amazing, and their seasonal menu changes are superb. I love coming in and trying different things. The salmon tacos are delicious, the birria fries are a must, and I always look forward to seeing what new crostini they are featuring since those change every few months. Roots is consistent without being boring. Great food, great service, great drinks, and a menu that keeps giving you a reason to come back. Can't wait to come back. See y'all next week.
