Just the most perfect local diner. They don't have many of them like this anymore. Walking in they have their locals that have been going there forever. Service was quick and nice. We had a table of 5 and all of our food came out at the same time and very quick. This is a solid diner. Great breakfast burrito, full menu served all the time, good plain old coffee, delicious pancake. The servers are friendly and obviously have their regular customers. I've been coming here for years, not sure how I've not done a review before. There is nothing on their menu that I've tried that I haven't loved. All of the food is great American Comfort Food! Breakfast served all day however they do close at 2:00pm so no dinner time here... Great salads, burgers, sandwiches and meals! Your burgers and sandwiches come with a serving of your choice of waffle fries, French fries or season fries but you can also choose peaches if you want which is what my go to choice is. I will however, steal a couple of my hubby's seasoned fries from his plate if he gets them. Always generous portions and even with the sandwiches I normally have to take half of it home to eat later. My favorite is the French Dip which the prime rib is cooked perfectly, with gooey Swiss cheese on a hoagie roll which is neither too hard nor too soft! The dip is just the right amount of salty and delicious!! I also love their BLT! Don't forget the pie! You may not have room left to eat it so just get a slice and take it home with you! As I said, they have generous portions and they are reasonably priced as well! It's family owned and operated and everyone on staff are welcoming and inviting and friendly and knowledgeable! Cute little location which although has changed hands a couple of times over the years has remained unchanged and kept the name since the 1940's! Yes, this is an Olathe staple and very well loved business! There are also paintings on the walls painted by someone who works there maybe? I went to Mom's in the 80's and the food was incredible. Last time. I could barely hold it down. Hollandaise sauce was dripping of the edges. Pure Sysco, right out of the can. Cold and gross. My wife got a salad and they gave per packaged dressing. When we went back to our table I looked into the kitchen. All i saw were cans of premade Sysco product. Went there again this past weekend with brother and nephew. We love this place because the food is just good!! Nothing plain or simple about it.... but it's the basics done right; eggs (all styles I've had were great), sausage links or patties, ham steak, plate sized pancakes, biscuits, gravy, and more!!! I am so glad to have found a new breakfast spot in Olathe. I found this restaurant on Google and saw the awesome reviews. It's a truly small town fee kinda place, older gentleman sitting around drinking their coffee reading the paper, very friendly staff, and great service. My husband and I don't eat pork, and luckily there were some options for us. It's rare to find a breakfast spot without sausage in their gravy. I was thankful to find we could order "cream" gravy for our meal. The meals came out quick, and as other reviewers said, portions are not withheld. Our entire meal was $20! Thought we'd try a new place and saw this little MoM and PoPs place on Yelp. Walked in and neat cozy place, greeted right away by the hostess and within a couple minutes were greeted by a very nice and efficient waitress. Only thing I would suggest is providing the specials as you couldn't read the board very well. I would have had one of the two specials had I seen them prior to ordering. That being said, I had a sausage, mushroom and white cheddar omelette which was good size and very food. I would've preferred the cheese inside the omelette instead of a slice melted on top. I picked the fried potatoes as my side which were amazing. You should offer an option of a plate of those with buffalo sauce and shredded pepper jack melted over the top. I also got a biscuit with the meal which was good and I ordered a side of gravy which was very food. Coffee was good and like they put a pot on the table. Visited this wonderful restaurant while visiting my buddy in Kansas. We went around lunch time, but were open to either breakfast or lunch. When I saw the choices for my lunch, I had major choosing issues. I ended up going for liver and onions, one of my favorite meals. It was as if my momma was back there cooking. Even the gravy tasted like Mom's. My buddy had a hamburger steak that looked equally fantastic. For dessert we each had a slice of pie. They had a board that listed the options available, but many of them had "out" written beside them. My buddy wanted chocolate pie and asked for it even though it had out on it. He said that they probably hadn't updated the list from the day before. He was right, but not the way he wanted to be. The server came out of the kitchen and wrote "out" next to at least five more pies. My buddy settled for a blackberry pie that he said was awesome. I did not settle. Chicken fried steak, 2 eggs over medium, sourdough toast, hash browns and a glass of water- add lemon. This was my order. What I got was, Chicken fried grease, 2 eggs over medium fried in grease, butter with a side of sourdough, potatoes held together with cold grease and a glass of ice water with brown lemon. Do you know how old a lemon has to be to turn brown? It's almost impossible because of the citric acid. Anyways, after taking a couple of bites I could hear my arteries clogging. So I decided to take a drink of ice cold water forgetting the effect it has on hot grease, wham! My mouth was full of grease that had hardened. Not cool man... Their parking lot is always packed and I found out why last weekend...... Their food is classic, homestyle, and just plain good stuff. We went for brunch on a Sunday and I had over-easy eggs, hash browns, and bacon. The hasbrowns are the best-cooked I have had in forever. The bacon was super-crisp. We were on a time crunch and almost every other breakfast restaurant in Olathe was on a 30+ minute wait. IDK how/why I remembered Mom's Kitchen, but I'm so glad I did! This place was a great greasy spoon (and I mean that with love and affection). You can get all your traditional breakfast items at Mom's. I had eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast - all perfectly cooked. The restaurant isn't new and shiny, its not a chain with fancy decor, but it is well-kept. Came in for breakfast with my sig. other. I ordered the eggs benedict and he ordered just an omelet. Our order took 45 minutes to come out. People that had been seated after us were getting their food before us. Our waitress ignored us completely. No update on why our food was taking forever or anything to even check on us to see if we needed water or anything. Finally we flagged our waitress down and asked where our food was. Her explanation was that the eggs benedict hollandaise sauce takes awhile to prepare. This would have been a nice thing to mention upon me choosing this item, as I would have changed my mind if we were going to wait close to an hour for someone to make hollandaise sauce (which doesn't take an hour unless you have no idea what you're doing). Anyways, finally we get our food. My eggs are cold, his omelet is cold. The hollandaise sauce that apparently takes forever to make tasted like salty egg yolks. It was disgusting and I was so disappointed, not only in our service but the terrible food. It's such a run-down diner I thought it was basically like a dive diner that would make up for it's gross condition with good food. Wow, I was really mistaken. It's just all-around bad. When I was a kid, our family would come here every Sunday morning after church for breakfast. What dear fond memories I have of Mom's kitchen. Sadly, those memories will have to stay memories. I will not be returning. I used the restroom before ordering and walked in, turned on the light, and watched two roaches scatter beneath the floor boards. After washing my hands, I proceeded to turn off the light and noticed the switch was completely black from grime and dirt. Upon sitting down in the booth, I noticed several dead flies lining the window sills and the salt and pepper shakers are covered in years worth of filth. The ceiling vents are coated with black dust. I absolutely cannot believe this restaurant is still in operation. Clearly they do not care about cleanliness. I wonder what the kitchen looks like? The service is great and the food is pretty good. The jalapeño bacon is delicious and something different than your normal breakfast fare. I can't get over the total lack of care regarding the cleanliness of this restaurant. People can get very sick but I won't take that chance as I will never return. I'll have to rely on my childhood memories when thinking of Mom's kitchen. read more

To give you an idea of how much I enjoy Mom's Kitchen - first of all, how can you NOT like a place with 'mom' as part of the name! - I live near downtown Kansas City, MO, and Mom's is located on Santa Fe Drive in Olathe. In my humble opinion, it's worth the drive! Mom's is nothing fancy. It's comfortable, clean and has darned good food. Great pancakes, great omelettes, ENORMOUS chicken fried steak, and sausage gravy that will make you slap your mamma. I've seen where some Yelpers have had questionable service, but I can say I've not had that experience. And again, I'm driving a ways just to eat! If you're heading to Mom's for breakfast on the weekend, I'd recommend getting their early - say, before 9am. If not, it's possible you may have a little wait. Overview: Sorry, this place was a disappointment. We tried Mom's Kitchen for breakfast after our soccer game, we have 5 kids and 4 adults. The service was slow, the food was mediocre, and the cost was expensive for what we got. Details: The place is very casual and down home. We got seated quickly and the waitress took our drink orders. At this point the waitress must have gotten busy or distracted because while she was buzzing around our table, she was not at our table for a while. This was okay since it left us time to review the menu. The menu was not huge, but it had the staples we wanted for breakfast. Including the country choices, like steak and eggs. The kids menu was tiny, two choices only - pancake or 1 egg with bacon/sausage. After a good wait, we ordered our food. I got the Eggs Benedict with fried potatoes, because the waitress told me this was the only place I could get them in the city (not sure what city she was referring). Our boys got waffles. One of my boys even got the jalapeno bacon, an interesting item that I wanted to try too. After we ordered we waited. And waited. There were two tables on either side of us that sat after us and got their food before us. I think the size of our party disrupted the waitress somehow. She did buzz by a few times letting us know she was coming right back. She never did. After a long wait we got our food. The Eggs Benedict was two poached eggs on a split English muffin sitting on top of a huge slab of think cut ham. All covered with hollandaise sauce. I personally did not like it. The sauce tasted like a mix, the eggs were small, and the ham just overpowered the dish. It was too much. Eggs Benedict is not a country egg and steak breakfast, but they made it one. By the way, the fried potatoes we essentially homemade potatoes chips. They were good, but not unique. The boys seemed to like their waffles and the jalapeno bacon was good and spicy. I am not sure I would eat 4 pieces, especially since this little side dish was $4.50. In the end the food was OK, but we paid $70+ for a family of 5 and the food was country style not some expensive fancy stuff. I would not go back. read more

So first off when I received my food I unwrapped my fork from the napkin and there was food dried on it. Ok gross but no big deal just needed a new one. Then the "waitress" offered me hash browns with my food making it sound like it came with the food... It didn't she added 4 bucks to my bill. Me and my husband went and had breakfast at Mom's Kitchen. It was my first time the service was warming our server Nellie Rowder was kind and very helpful. Also brought a smile on our faces. The food was delicious portion sizes was very nice. I told my husband that it's nice that our food stayed hot the whole meal to the last bite. I would recommend this diner to family and friends. The Food is good; but I can't say the same for the service; I left a $2 tip for a $10 breakfast on the table and my waitress rang me up at the counter where I paid by CC. as I was walking out she yelled out..."NO TIP???". that was very unprofessional and I had half a mind to go back and tell her it was on the table, but I was too angry and didn't want to get in a confrontation.
