My family has been coming here for brunch a couple times now and the food is good, waitresses are always friendly, and even the customers are nice. It's like one big family getting together for brunch. On this time dining in, I didn't have the best experience. My hot chocolate looked very unappetizing after the whipped cream settled and I found meat in my hash browns. This immediately grossed me out because although I do eat meat, my husband doesn't and I couldn't help but to think what if he had gotten this plate and eaten that piece of meet and broke his long years of being vegetarian. After letting the waitress know, she apologized and let me know that everything is made "in one big grill". That didn't reassure any of the "what if" scenarios that was building up in my head. I believe this process needs to be re thought out because I'd be very upset if I was a vegan/vegetarian and I found meat in my food or just the thought of them being cooked together that close for a piece to fall in...yeah no. read more

I have been here many times for the lunch. You can never go wrong with their menu. Staffs are always friendly and welcoming here in TJ's. Vintage ambiance. During my last visit, I have tried their "Giant homemade tenderloin served on a grilled bun with a side of coleslaw". Trust me, you cannot finish em in one shot. Judging from the wall's wood paneling the interior of TJ's has change little over several decades. And you can be thankful for that because the diner's owners continue to put their money into good quality food and provide it at reasonable cost. TJ's provides high value in its meals. We arrived for breakfast and TJ's was already bustling. Portions for a party of 15 were generous. Service was outstanding as multiple staff worked quickly to get meals delivered at the same time, then checked back to ensure no requests were overlooked. Got a to go order there today... they forgot the bacon in my breakfast special... so my son called and asked for the bacon and said I would come back with the receipt and get it... I arrived and was given 2 pieces of bacon that were charred black!!!! Not just overcooked.... Black!! What an obvious "we don't care about our clientele one bit! Before leaving home looked on this site for options as we drove south thru KC. Saw some options and was able to find this place. We were after breakfast, but not quite lunch so the place was mostly empty, but near full when finished. NOT FANCY!!!! Said that last part so if you read this and are interested you know it is a small-town cafe on the edge of KC. The building is old but clean and surprisingly large on the inside. We had lunches and both enjoyed them, We had the pork tenderloin sandwich and neither of us was able to finish it. With the fries that came with it, seemed like we left half of the food, but ate all we could. The fries were not the 'real' fries but out of a bag which I was disappointed in. But, the tenderloin sandwich was above average good. Service was very good also. Considered a piece of pie, yes, even though I didn't eat all of my sandwich, but didn't find any was willing to try. I was looking for a plain old apple or cherry. Advice here, coming off the Interstate turn west. It is about 2-3 miles and on the north side of the road. We were looking for it and still nearly missed it as there is a bend right there. They are open early. My guess is because the service is good, the food even better and the reasonable price it will be full during normal meal times. This is one of those GOOD old restaurants that's hard to find anymore. From the traditional breakfast plates ( I suggest The TJ's Supreme w/ sausage patties & be sure to ask for Gunslinger) to their lunch/dinner specials, meatloaf, tacos & homemade pie's. I hesitate mentioning this place bc it will affect my wait time the next time I pop in. My friends and I met up to eat here today. Two of us had tenderloins, one a chef salad and one breakfast. The tenderloins are huge with plenty of fries. Hubby and I stopped for lunch and we were greeted by friendly staff and a restaurant filled with tons of regulars. I decided to try one of the specials and ordered the Rueben sandwich with fries. The Rueben was good and hubby thought my fries were excellent. For $6.95, the price was really reasonable. Hubby ordered a breakfast plate with biscuits, sausage, eggs and covered with gravy. We were told to take a seat anywhere, we did and sat there and sat there. Yea, so we had to try TJ's last week, as I had to make one of those dreaded stops by the DMV in Grandview. TJ's is pretty darn cool...nice enough restaurant that appears pretty clean. Hostess isn't terribly friendly or welcoming but the wait staff makes up for it. We were told to pick any clean table we wanted, we chose a booth at the back of the restaurant. Our waitress was kind and bubbly. I of course went for the TJ Supreme. Wow. A huge plate stacked with a biscuit, hash browns, ham, eggs and soaked in gravy. I could have afforded a bit less gravy and having the hash browns cooked a little crispier - they were a bit too soggy for my liking. Nonetheless, the meal was excellent. We enjoyed every bite and our waitress. The hostess could afford to smile but the prices were fair - we will call it an even trade! read more

This place is great! It was a little hard to find but I think it was because we came from behind instead of on the main road. The breakfast food was great if a little under-seasoned. I got a burger, which was a little dry, but the fries that came with it were great. The waitstaff was also SUPER nice and it had a great down-home atmosphere with reasonable prices. This is a review of the new store. The place is much bigger, but the staff is still as friendly as ever and the service is great. The daily specials had an interesting omelet made with cheeseburger filling, but I decided to go with the TJ Special. The eggs were cooked great. The gravy, hash browns, and biscuit were all very nice. I elected for the sausage patty and it was super tasty. I had a great breakfast and coffee for just under $10 before tip. My review is probably a cross between TJ's and Grubhub. Ordered chicken fried steak sandwich and a kids chicken tenders and a side of mashed potatoes and a side of gravy. Long story short, somehow TJs didn't have chicken fried steak so I got the kids meal, mashed potatoes with a hideous brown gravy and a bowl of country gravy which had been salted within an inch of its life. No call from Grubhub that food wasn't available, they stated that restaurant didn't inform them or call to ask for an alternative choice. I ate one of the chicken tenders dipping it in the cream gravy that was so awful. The brown gravy on the potatoes was leaked all in the bag and was a big mess. Disappointing read more
