They make wings like 6x different ways and all of the flavors are amazing. 20x better than pluckers if you ask me. I've been to wingzup over 20+ times. I'm a huge fan! Good food, drinks and sports what more can you ask for? Well... how about AVERAGE service? The service here is about as bad as it can get. Although the wings are fire my friends and I debate on meeting up here anymore. Last time we were here the waitress looked like she was on something. It took us 30x minutes to get 3x shots. 3x shots?! How can that take 30x minutes. The only way we ever ordered anything was by tracking down our waitress. After a rocky start last night everything panned out. We arrived at Wingzup during the 2nd quarter of the Superbowl and we were happy to find there were a few open tables. The sign said Seat Yourself, so we did. It was probably only 7-8 minutes but it felt like more than 20 had passed before anyone recognized we were there. Once they did the service was excellent. I tried the Ghost Pepper Wings - wow, HOT. Good flavor though. Onion Rings - perfect and huge. Mini-Corn Dogs, yum Two recommendations to Wingzup: On cold days, block the main door and let folks come in and out the Pick Up door - the cold air just streaks through this place. Wingzup is the gem in the hidden treasure chest that is Hyde Park. Everyone knows about the other wing place that started here in Austin. That place is always busy and rightly so but sometimes, I don't want to wait an hour to sit down, eat some wings and watch some sports. And let's face it, that other big wing joint is a nationwide chain, a big taboo in Austin. From there, most of the wing bars in town leave me feeling fat and greasy without a lot of flavor. Wingzup changes the game by offering wings cooked 6 different ways, with a plethora of sauces. My favorite sauces so far have been the spicy garlic and garlic parmesan, but the best way I've seen to eat all their wings is with the sauce on the side. Their marinades and batters is all you need on these wings. Also what else do they offer that is unique and great, POUTINE. That gravy they use is so addictive it's borderline illegal. Never had an inkling of an issue with service and I could get any game I want on their many TVs. Are these chicken wings or angel wings? Holy smokes Wingzup wings are awesome! I'm a Pluckers devotee, but Wingzup's wings recently became my favorite wings in Austin. Ironically enough, I would have never tried Wingzup if my brother and I had not had an impossible time getting a table at Pluckers, I just yelped wings and I was shown the light. The original wings are outstanding, and yet both the grilled and smoked wings are outstanding-er, thank goodness for the sampler option! My favorite combinations so far are Smoked Ghost BBQ and Grilled Spicy Garlic, but I also want to give a shout out to the classics Original Hot and Original Lemon Pepper which are really good. And apparently I give out shout outs now. Also the Wingzup Poutine is awesome sauce, I highly recommend. The place is smaller than Pluckers, but fortunately it is surrounded by TVs, which makes it perfect for watching games. The service is a little slow, but I honestly think they are understaffed, because they are very helpful and friendly. This is my new favorite wing place, thanks to Phillip B. For turning us on to this place. The smokes wings are truly special, and they are insanely good. A lot of smoked wings are too dry, but not these. They are so popular they were out of them on our visit yesterday. But when a door is closed a window opens... bring on the golden wings. These are truly special. They are marinated and seasoned ahead of time and then fried to a golden crunchy goodness. They come with sauce on the side because they have such a great flavor on their own. I've tried them with several sauces and they all worked well. If you want a really hot sauce with good flavor also, try the ghost sauce, it will have you crying tears of joy. I've tried 8 or so of the sauces and they have all been great. They also offer grilled, breaded and original "naked" style wings. I'm staying with the smoked and golden, cause they are unique and delicious. Was scrolling thru my Yelp reviews of yore, & ran across this one. I initially gave this place a 5-star in 2013 & couldn't stop talking about how great the wings were! Then I went approximately 1 year ago for lunch & the inside smelled like raw sewage, made my wife vomit, & my review had to change as a result. I felt that the Yelp world needed to know about this problem they were having & I had to downgrade them to a 2-star. Well, I've been back twice in the past year due to my wife's band having gigs in the area & the bad-odor problem has been resolved, smells normal in there now, & the wings are still as good as ever. First time trying this place so I didn't know what to expect. I tried the Golden wings 10 PC and my boyfriend did the same. We weren't expecting the sauces to come on the side. We thought the wings would be cooked in the sauce, so we thought that was strange. Nonetheless, we got lemon pepper, medium, and raspberry chipotle bbq. Medium and Raspberry chipotle bbq were really good (10/10 recommend) but the lemon pepper tasted a little funny. Overall, it's a decent wing place, but it won't blow you away. read more

Greeted as I walked in by the bartender who seemed to be on his own at lunch. Sat down and ordered the wing sampler and got garlic parmesan original, smoked spicy garlic and golden jalapeno ranch. There are multiple types of wings to choose from as well as flavors so there is a lot of leeway to get what you want, I suppose. The smoked are definitely nice and smoky but 5 was plenty and it became overpowering after just a few. They gave me the wrong flavor though, so I'm not sure how the spicy garlic was, unless it tastes exactly like regular buffalo wing sauce... The garlic parmesan in the original style were pretty good and were my favorite. Crispy skins and it seemed like they were dumped on by the parmesan can. The golden variety wings I was told, are marinated for a few days and then cooked up without any batter or anything, and served with the sauce on the side. They were crispy as well, but the jalapeno ranch sauce on the side was pretty bland unfortunately. Basically a jalapeno blended into a vat of ranch, and I couldnt taste any jalapeno flavor or heat really and it just had a faint green hue. The marinade they use for the golden wings seemed a bit off tasting. It had a strange subtle chemical like flavor to it that I wasn't crazy about. Tried Wingzup for the first time and was disappointed. I ordered 15 wings: 5 golden, 5 country, and 5 smoked (with sauce on the side cajun, jalapeno ranch, and spicy garlic), a 10 piece of fried tenders (tossed in mango habanero and hot), and fried pickle spears. Also, I paid for a side of Ghost sauce. When the food arrived, I noticed that we were shorted a couple of ranches as well the cajun sauce. I called the restaurant but since they were busy, they didnt seem all that interested in getting the delivery driver to go back out to us. Also, since sauce is only 75 cents, it wouldn't be worth it to return the money. I let it go because I know mistakes happen but I was very underwhelmed with the wings themselves. The smoked and golden were way overcooked. The meat was dry. The country were decent only because they were battered and fried. The sauces themselves were good but they weren't labeled at all so I had to make my best guesses. The Ghost sauce wasn't super spicy but it had a kick. The best wings in town. I will be honest. At first I thought this place was a chain wing place. But finally I got close enough and I was like..hmm...I'll give it a shot. The wings are awesome. The sauces are made fresh daily. The sauce varies (especially the spicy ones) ever so slightly because it's handmade every day. But that's like some home cooking, making it from scratch kind of thing. So I'm into it. The employees are very friendly. It's a small staff, so you see the same people all the time. If you let people join you, even though you may not know them, then the waitress will treat you as a group and charge you 20% gratuity. Their menu has a plethora of wing styles and sauces, many ways to build your own combos, and a multitude of sizes (they also have sandwiches and burgers and the like, but we went specifically for wings). Food: We decided to start with waffle fries, sweet potato fries (for the more healthy people among us), some classic Canadian poutine, which came with fries, cheese curds, and sauce, and some fried mozzarella sticks. The gravy-like poutine sauce was a bit too salty for my taste, and I wish the cheese curds had been a bit more firm, but the overall flavor was pretty good. The mozzarella sticks were quite large and tasted great, and the sweet potato fries were good as well. 4/5 We then all ordered a variety of wings and sauces, including lemon pepper, bay heat, gochujang, curry, and others. The wing sizes were about what we expected, and most of us were able to finish around ten wings. They were flavorful and cooked well, and the grilled and boneless style options were quite good. The wings came with celery and ranch or bleu cheese dressing. 4/5 Atmosphere: being a sports bar, there were multiple TV's playing baseball and basketball games. This place is like a quieter, more laid-back version of Pluckers. Cheaper too. Tons of flat screen TVs with a good variety of sports (last night I saw soccer, rugby, basketball, and baseball games). No one came to take our orders until I finally got up to ask. My order, a simple burger (that by default comes with standard toppings) came out as a plain patty and bun. One of our orders was missing. One of our drinks didn't come until I had to get up and ask for it. We didn't even get a pen with the check....I think you get the point. I've seen many other reviews about bad service but would like to note, at least in my case, it did seem like they were under-staffed and training new waitresses, so I give them a pass this time, since it was the first time I've had bad service. The teriyaki sauce was good as well, just not as saucy. The pricing was a little steep, $22 for 15 wings and a TEENSY bag of fries. The portion for the fries were so small, we got like $2 worth of fries for $5. Also we tried a frozen marg, and that was also tasty! Great place for a catch up or watching sports. You are always near a t.v. and it seems like a good place to go for a game. The wi-fi is good and I've seen people there watching a game while surfing on the web. The emphasis seems to be on football but I've seen everything from hockey to collage hoops and even golf on the screens. I'm sure they will tune to whatever you want. Just ask. The wings themselves are big and meaty with lots of choices in sauces and styles. My favorites are the regular wings and the smoked wings. The smoked wings are very good and I have not seem them anywhere else in Austin. The sauce choices are very expansive and unique. The curry sauce is good but a bit heavy on cheap curry powder. (I know good curry powder) The original sauce is probably the best they have and I still prefer the sauces at Pluckers. The problem with the sauces is that they seem to taste all the same. I had a sample platter once and I couldn't tell the difference between the teriyaki and the Jerk...The Jerk were not hot at all and the teriyaki were bland and sticky in a odd way. The service is really nice and they take care of you and your needs. They don't hassle you to much seeing as though it's a sports bar and they seem to be happy to let you order beers and watch the game. Although I have never come for something big, maybe the policy is different then. I still prefer Pluckers and Buffalo Wild Wings, but I like to support local places.
