I have been to Wild Root across 3 different owners since opening day. The food is a farm to table concept with Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free and Meat menu items. The food has been consistent. There are some changes that need to be known to the community for sure! 1. They now offer full table service, no longer pay at register, get your # and then find a seat yourself. 2. On the weekends it's a Brunch menu during the day. 3. They have a full service dinner menu now even during the weekend. 4. They have a full bar of alcohol. 5. No longer a Cafe only venue. 6. Their menu's are Seasonal. So options available now won't be on the summer menu. I will definitely be back. The service was excellent as was the food. read more

Super pleased with Wild Root's menu offerings, especially the availability of vegan options. There were a number of choices I was trying to decide between. The tofu in the banh mi had stellar flavor. I absolutely loved the falafel wrap, though. The flatbread especially was absolutely delicious, and the fresh veggies and falafel sealed the deal. Would 100% order again. I got vegan shortbread, which I ended up eating while I waited for the meal because I took a bit to taste and it was way too damn good to wait. I've been here handful of times and always had a wonderful experience here. The food is always presented beautifully, and the taste didn't disappoint. The staff is friendly, and the menu always has something new to try and also some gluten-free friendly items. When I walked in this time, I saw Korean "bulgogi" sandwich, which was exciting as I'm a big fan of Korean food! So I had to try it with a side of carrot curry salad. The carrot curry salad was good, but the Korean "bulgogi" was rather disappointing. The name was deceiving - it was nothing like "bulgogi" flavor! The stuff (cabbage and pickled cucumber) added onto the sandwich added flavor, but it was rather a pull pork sandwich. My girl friends both got the avocado toast, which is one of my favorites. They were good and presented beautifully as always. This is one of my favorite lunch spots in all of Boise. The food is healthy AND delicious!! Such a yummy, unique menu with great options. Their salads are to die for. Seriously, my favorite is the bruschetta salad. Presentation, quality, freshness, it's all so very good. The staff is lovely, you will often find the owners behind the counter. Daughter wanted to go to a vegetarian restaurant so a quick google search resulted in Wild Root. Stopped in for some lunch and was quickly relieved they have meat! Lol. They ha e vegan opinions but it's not a vegetarian or vegan only place (thank goodness). I ordered the Carne Asada street tacos which were very generous servings, I was a little surprised actually. The reason I gave this a 3-star is because of your hostess. The 3-stars is specifically for the cook. The food was Really tasty, so great job chef! My friend and I were on our lunch and walked in, we stood waiting on the hostess, he must have walked by us more than 5 times before He acknowledged us. When a group of men walked in he seemed to be more interested in the group of men who were dressed in military-ware and with helping them rather than assisting us, ( mind-you, we still were not seated) Of course, he than sat the group of men and then walked over toward us and said " Ive got to clean the table up for you". Now mind -you, this is lunch-time and they obviously were busy. That being said, you can still go out of your way to say, I'm sorry, we're super busy. I'll be right with you." He had walked right in front of us at one point and started to straighten out the menus, we stared at him, like what in the world? There was another young-lady in the back of the kitchen area who also came up and started to tend to the group of men wearing military attire. I hope the owner reads this is seriously a lousy way to get customers. When we were finally seated there was another couple of customers who walked in and literally stood there while yet again, this young man walked by them and did not say a word. I could've believe it! You will loose customers if this kind of thing continues. Those 2-customers ended up leaving. I would strongly suggest training for your younger employees. Updating this review because: The Vegan Migas! Wow, oh, wow! Okay, I am not a vegan. But my roommate is, and she convinced me to try the "Migas", but done with veganeggs. It was actually delicious. I could hardly tell I wasn't actually eating eggs. The texture was similar to that of a normal egg. Also, the chili and tortilla strips that came with it were fantastic. It was a wonderful, savory, and relatively clean breakfast. The portion size was also HUGE. My roommate and I were able to split it and still leave feeling full. It cost about $15 altogether, so $7-8/person. It was delicious. I highly recommend giving it a try! read more

Wild Root is a cute, quirky cafe in downtown Boise with healthy food options. Great for vegetarians. I ordered the chopped salad. As I was standing in line, I couldn't resist getting a vegan chocolate chip cookie from the cookie rack by the cashier - it looked so good, and the chocolate looked so gooey and melted. Yum. I wish they could have warmed it up, but it was very chocolatey and chewy. Probably one of the better chocolate chip cookies I've had BUT it was on the pricier side (it was $3, and it was pretty small). The chopped salad was AWESOME and their plating was beautiful. It was placed on a long rectangular plate, and the portion size was hearty. The avocado vinaigrette was delicious and creamy, and the grilled ciabatta bread slices were very unique. I've never had anything like the bread slices: they were kinda hard and some of them tasted a little like fried dough. Some bread pieces were yummier than others, and a few I had to really gnaw at (it kinda hurt my jaws). But still delicious. The chicken was chewy, and not tough at all. Awesome, awesome. Wild Root is conveniently located in the Idaho building on 8th St Downtown. The food here is very seasonal and locally sourced-- I love a menu that changes as the ingredients around us change. Vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike can all enjoy a hearty and healthy meal here. I often get the Wild Skillet of sweet potatoes, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, white cheddar cheese and can be made with tofu "eggs" or regular eggs your way. The steak and eggs is another breakfast/brunch favorite. The quality and cut of the local Snake River Farms wagyu is some of the best steak you can get! The Bruschetta is one of the seasonal menu items that is a really great reflection of the different local ingredients grown throughout the year. This spot also offers bone broth $4 for 12oz, $6 for 16oz, $10 for 32oz. Drinking bone broth has become popularized recently and I think that Wild Root is one of the only places in Boise that I know that serves bone broth like this. I personally do love drinking some good broth whenever I'm feeling like I need an extra pickup from all the nutrients from the broth-- soup concentrates could never!! Wild Root has recently also started serving alcohol and are coming up with some creative cocktails. My sister and I stopped into Wild Root today for brunch, just before i flew back to Sacramento, CA. I was in town visiting my big sis, and she took me to several bars and restaurants over the three days i was here. Our last stop was Wild Root for a good bye brunch. I dont think i have ever written a yelp review before. In fact, after working in restaurants for the past 15 years as a server, bartender, general manager, and now event coordinator, I've grown to dispise people who abuse yelp, and actively avoid reading reviews, because people can be such jerks with their critiques/comments. Most of you dont know what the hell you are talking about. But I'm going to be a hypocrite this one time, because I couldn't help myself after the experience I had this morning. In short, the food was great. I'm not good at being descriptive when it comes to food, but the french toast and salmon Benedict were great. Kudos to the chef. The real reason for the review is the service. As a server for many years, I feel like I have a good idea as to what equates to good service or not. Our server, Anna, was amazing. She didnt have to fake being genuine and nice, because she was very real, very warm, and seemed to enjoy her job. She is definitely the right type of person a restaurant owner should want working for them. Without asking, she gave my sister a hand written list of places to check out in Boise, as my sis is new to the area, and looking for the cool spots to see. Apart from all the basic server skills she showed (attentive, knowledgeable, welcoming etc.) she was just.. cool, and nice. Two things you cant fake, or at least fake to this old restaurant guy. Was looking for a yummy place to grab lunch with a friend and we stumbled across this cute café. I got the K-Bowl (add chicken) and it was delicious! The presentation was gorgeous, flavor was just right, and it filled me up without making me feel disgustingly full. They also have options and modifications available for dietary restrictions. We met some friends here and from the start, a cute and charming place. Located in that large walking/biking side street and if you go in the morning or for brunch, you will have shade seating outside. The sun was creeping in as we were leaving in the early afternoon. A great menu just how we like it. Just enough to take a few minutes to choose but not too many items where unable to decide kicks in. Our server was Shannon B and she is AWESOME!!! Went here for a graduation celebration and was underwhelmed. A lot of it was bland and only about 50% of our group were satisfied. But the real issue was the service. We ended the evening at closing time, but instead of being informed they were closing, we realized because all of the staff was standing at the "bar area" taking shots of alcohol... to say we were surprised was an understatement. It felt very unprofessional. The restaurant had closed 7 minutes before, we hadn't even realized. As a big group & as it was a celebration, we were obviously planning to leave a large tip (which we still did), but it was just disappointing and odd for the staff to be taking shots at the "bar" with paying customers still in the restaurant & only 7 minutes after closing. My body was in need of nutrition and this place certainly delivered. Their bowls are hearty and flavorful, not to mention aesthetic. I added chicken breast to mine for an extra protein punch, but I think this would've been a great dish without it (and being a meat-lover, statements like that don't come out of my mouth very often). Prices are middle of the road in my opinion, and the ambience with somewhere between a cafe and a casual restaurant. If you care about the food that goes into your body, Wild Root is a brilliant choice. They have gluten-free, vegetarian, and dairy-free options, and they're damn creative when it comes to putting together a menu! I fell in love with their staff....and their orange and espresso glazed brownies. God help me. I ordered the avocado Banh Mi sandwich with vegetarian meatballs. It was large and in charge -- delicious (but I did miss the usual pile of cilantro included in other Banh Mis I've had in the past), but I could only eat half because I ordered a cup of the best tomato soup of my life! Tomato soup is not an easy soup to make appealing. Tomatoes need help...they're acidic and somewhat bland. This, though, this made my taste buds dance. My hubs is a big meat-eater, so he added bacon AND chicken to the grilled cheese with apples - it was beyond delicious!!! The food was so good, I don't remember what the cost was! If you're in downtown Boise, you must give this place a try. If you like greasy crunchy beans, then maybe this is for you. The potato hash was mostly other vegetables like onions and peppers that were burnt. Maybe dinner is better here? The dressing was a gummy slurry of sugar and corn starch. No acidity. The protein add-on was less than two ounces, very greasy & covered in completely uncooked garlic ... overall was just a sad sad salad. I have been waiting to try this place since I'm dairy free. I've heard good things about it from someone else who doesn't eat dairy. I went alone, which usually isn't an issue? I work at a restaurant and I've never judged anyone for eating alone. I think it's nice to spend time alone and taking yourself out to eat and I eat out alone often. They were weird about me being just by myself. Which made me feel uncomfortable. I sat outside at the bar area and it was very nice. My server was Olivia O. she came to order with me and was not friendly at all. It was one of the weirdest server experiences I've had. I got the avocado toast which I didn't expect the pretty presentation. Someone else brought it out to me not my server. I started eating my food and was almost done with my water at the time, I would've liked some hot sauce and a water refill but no one came to check on me or came near my seat so I could flag them down. Olivia never came to check on me or refill my water....she came back to give me the check and was very stand-offish just dropped the check and left. She didn't offer to refill my empty water glass, or say thank you. I paid online through their QR code app. I gave her a 10% tip which wasn't a lot, I honestly didn't want to tip at all but being a server myself I didn't want to stiff her.
