This is a hard one for me. Our server was AMAZING! So patient, gave great suggestions, and honestly I needed nothing our whole time there because he was on top of it (thank you Nicolas). I loved our drinks and the decor was great. Now things out of his control- the food. It was okay... I felt it was no better than Applebee's or something similar. While my steak was cooked at the right temp, it tasted like a subpar piece of meat. And it said it came with broccolini. I was disappointed to see 2 small pieces equalling the size of a penny together. The "risotto" was good, but definitely as hoping for more veggies. It was also WAY too salty. Coming from an Italian that love salt and seasoning, I almost never complain of too much salt. The whiskey cake Itself wasn't bad. But wasn't amazing. Very rich. All in all, it was just ok. The service was 10/10. The drinks were good. The decor was great. But the food just really disappointed us. It left us feeling like we went to a chain restaurant. We were visiting and if asked where to eat, I feel my response would say, whiskey kitchen is cute, with great service, good drinks, but average food. In addition, Lindsey should not be allowed to answer the phone. She was extremely rude and impatient. We honestly about cancelled our dinner because of her. I do see lots of good reviews here but I can only give it 3 starts. Even with the great server and good drinks (which were spendy), the food, a huge reason to choose a restaurant, was just average. If I'm spending $75, it should be amazing. read more

Been wanting to eat here for quite a while and was overall happy with it. The food was pretty good. The deviled eggs: heavy on the mustard (I'm fine with) but pretty bland seasoning wise, but hey they were 5$ so cool. The fried green tomatoes: great crunch & the remoulade was delicious but again, under seasoned. The OMG burger: Delicious; I have had better but delicious non the less! The mushrooms were yummy! "Famous" Chicken & waffles: this unfortunately was a major bust. Bacon infused? Didn't taste that, cold eggs, bland chicken tenders & so light on the sausage gravy you couldn't even taste it. Chicken & cheese melt: would definitely eat this again. Had a couple of bones in the chicken which made me weary to keep eating but it was so delicious I powered through! Ha! Definitely recommend it! Whiskey cake: no review needed, just shovel it in your mouth! So good! Unfortunately our server wasn't stellar so it took away from the meal quite a bit. When I told her there were bones I had chewed in my chicken her response was "well it is rotisserie chicken" Not a great answer! She should have had a manager over to the table immediately! I get that it can happen but still. She also kept pouring fresh brewed HOT tea which although delicious melted the ice over and over and instead of making new teas just kept bringing us ice. Sorry but not at a restaurant where meals are like 15$ should this happen. Overall it was good. We will go back in hopes that they will redeem themselves with both the service & the overall flavor of the food. read more

I used to love this place, so I'm sad to report that my last 3 visits the food has been less than subpar. I seriously was here once a week and with each bad experience the gap between visits has widened. Today my burger was ordered as medium. I got a well done burger that was burned on one side. I added monkey bread togo and it's just cut up soggy burned burger buns ( with sesame seeds) and raw apples. 10$ for their extra bits. read more

Come for the fried green tomatoes and whiskey cake. Stay for everything else. Truly a great seasonal rotating menu. Everything feels fresh and prepared same day. Nothing ever feels pre-made or processed here. The major problem with this place which I can't deduct for is the popularity it has gained over the years has made it near impossible to get a table during peak times. Weekday lunch, weekday dinner, and all weekend long the place is busting at the seams with patrons. I probably make it here about 3 times a year and I've never been disappointed in my selections, but I always have to take the whiskey cake to go because I never leave room in my stomach at the table. read more

Simply amazing! I'm slightly embarrassed by how often we done there, and it's my go-to comfort food take out after a day at work.

Always consistent food. Wish they would switch up there menu more like they did in the past. Great service every time.

The waiter was not used to serving big parties and so some at the table were completely neglected. My husband wanted a beer but got a wine glass to share wine with others that had a carafe. Vegans, this is not your place. Your only offering on the menu is a side salad. read more

This is an updated review. My family and I recently dined here for Father's day and as usual the food and service was awesome and as usual the bartender was RUDE! What is up with the other servers that come deliver food, they just drop it off and leave. The bartender that delivered my husbands drink came up behind him didnt say a word and poured his drink. She split not a drop but a puddle of whiskey on our table and on him! She didn't say sorry let me get a towel to clean this up, she didn't offer my husband a towel to dry himself off she literally just walked right off. My husband had to go to the restroom to clean his arm off. Needless to say this is a sign to give this place a break for a while which is what we plan to do. There are plenty of other places near by that wouldnt spill drinks on their customers. read more

So many of my friend rave on and on about this place so I was glad when one of them wanted to go here for brunch. Always wanted to try it Well, meh. Brunch consists of just 6 choices of truly breakfast dishes. That was surprising. While no one had a bad meal we all agreed they were just really kind of average. I had the breakfast burger and expected the egg to have a little runnieness to it to add some sauce. Nope it was hard. We shared Jalapeño biscuits and gravy as appetizer and really liked them. Coffee was good. Service was fine. Server was friendly. A bit noisy and frenetic, if that's what you seek. Just not sure I'll come back and especially not for brunch. read more

I have to start by talking about their amazing dessert!!! The whiskey cake! It was sweet, moist, and salty all at once!! It had a sea salt- caramel type of glaze, it was this amazing gooey chocolate cake that was moist and tasted like sweet whiskey! This cake is the type of dessert you crave, you remember and you tell everyone about!!! The restaurant itself has a very modern/ relaxed vibe. They have craft beers and an interesting menu. Most of the food was spicy for me, but my husband and our friends loved it!!! We ordered hummus, duck wings, deviled eggs, salads and turkey burgers. I was only able to eat the eggs. Everything else was just to spicy for me. Even the dressing in the salad was a bit much for me. The waitress was very sweet and tried to recommend other menu items, but after trying all the items we ordered I stuck with the eggs. The food smelled and look amazing! And the small tastes I had were delicious!!! I wish I could handle spice, but I'm just to sensitive. The duck wings tasted really fresh (or the one bite I had) and the sauce complimented the meat really well. My friend loved them and left nothing but the bones!! The rest of the food smelled great and everyone really enjoyed it. I can personally speak for the eggs and they tasted wonderful!! This is a great place with a fun atmosphere and amazing dessert!!!! read more

Delicious. Appetizing. Decadent. We were visiting Dallas/Plano for an awards ceremony and decided to make a weekend out of it. We wanted to try our new places and cuisines that you can't get in California. Whiskey Cake does not disappoint! Hand crafted alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails are a unique taste to a menu. I had to go with a mimosa, but our server suggested a N/A drink called the "Jessica Wabbit." After the first sip, it was like an awakening happened in my system. If you're a fan of ginger or Moscow Mules, or if you want something with a refreshing taste - highly highly recommend trying this beverage. Lightly sweet and lightly spiced. Whiskey Cake offered a brunch menu that hit many of those weekend favorites that everyone enjoys. I ordered the Farmhouse Ham Benny and my boyfriend ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The meals were absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The portions were perfect (maybe even generous) in my opinion. The chicken was so crisp and fresh, the quality was unlike any typical breaded chicken. The selection was excellent and we hope to try other options on their brunch menu in the future. Lastly, our server recommended the Whiskey Cake as dessert. For anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to experience a dessert that makes your heart warm, your mouth water for more or your eyes roll to the back of your head because it was so amazing in the first bite - YOU NEED TO TRY THIS FOR YOURSELF. The warmth of the cake plus the home made whipped cream combined with the caramel and gooey goodness was unbelievable. Our server was excellent and for as busy as it was, he held the fort down. We don't remember his name and I wish I had caught it to give him th credit he deserves. He made great suggestions and made sure we were all in good hands. read more

Only liked the dessert the whiskey cake 10/10 recommend. Everything else was bland. The adult Mac and cheese was bland, no flavor.

Walking in here, this place is sooo cute! The waitress we had was so sweet and kind (sorry I forgot your name!). My friend and I started with happy hour and our drinks were spot on! Then my entree of OMG burger came and o m g it was delicious. Then came dessert. YOU HAVE TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE WHISKEY CAKE. My goodness, that was the most delicious cake I've ever had! It was so moist and baked to perfection. Each bite was full of chocolate flavor. The pecans on top I believe were baked with whiskey because there was definitely a kick to it. Anyways, I'd definitely come back here just for the cake and service! read more

Food and service was amazing! The whiskey wall was mesmerizing. Will definitely be going back.

Honestly 4 Stars is a stretch but 3 Stars will be unfair. The restaurant offers a limited menu but a good selection of drinks, which makes it a good watering-hole but not necessarily a good dining option. What everyone talks about is their Whiskey Cake which is good no doubt but is a meal in itself. As far as the service is concerned, it was good but nothing exceptional. The first drink took over 10 minutes to arrive but it was OK after that. Overall a decent experience but nothing exceptional. read more

DISCLAIMER: I dined with a very large party(~20 people) so my Experience may not be typical. SEATING We were seated outside, it was quite hot that day and there is little protection from the setting sun. Although, this may have been due to the large party, it still sucked. It's steam punk themed with is lame (sorry, not sorry) ORDERING Taking our orders took forever, but the two servers were friendly and patient when splitting the bill 20 ways. The menus was clearly explained and they gave some recommendations. I ended up ordering a Thai cashew pork baguette with mac and cheese to eat and a south central to drink. THE DRINK Not much of a drinker, but the south central was tasty. Tons of fancy booze I've never heard of. At $10, it was a little pricy. THE FOOD Overall the baguette was good. The bread was very fresh as we're all the other ingredients. Perfectly picketed vegetables and the cashew spread is divine. The pork was a little dry for me, but was still enjoyable. The sandwich was huge, I had to use a for at times and it sort of made a mess. I was very sticky after eating here, that's not necessarily a bad thing though. The mac and cheese was fairly standard and a much smaller than I wanted it to be. The chips were stale. OTHER Loads of fresh, local ingredients. Freshness is very apparent in the food and drink. Getting the bill and receipts took forever, nearly an hour. This is the main reason for the 4 star rating, I would give 4.5 stars otherwise. read more

I love whiskey cake so so so much! Not only are their dishes super creative and taste really good, they have the cutest interior design and fireplace! if you go here you have to get their whiskey cake because the flavors are truly beyond words capacity!!! It is nothing like any cake I have ever tried before, and that's probably why the name is "Whiskey Cake" My family has gone here multiple times just so we can enjoy a slice of their whiskey cake and fresh whipped cream at the end of our meal. Their cocoon and cozy fireplace area is so nice to relax in before the food comes out. Obviously haven't been able to go because of the pandemic, but I'm looking forward to going for brunch or something with my friends after the pandemic. read more

I am so, so sad that this was such a disappointment. And I will say that we had an unusual experience, but the whole experience really brings the rating down significantly. Whiskey Cake has been talked about for awhile, it has locations in all the cities I spend significant time: San Antonio, Dallas(ish), and OKC. But still, I'd never made it out there. Not a ton of options for a vegetarian during the normal meal hours and I hate waiting and crowds at brunch. Anyway, when it came to meeting a friend from McKinney for dinner, we decided to meet at WC. She'd been once before and enjoyed her burger and we could still hit up happy hour. It started off okay, although the waitress seemed so bothered by having 3 tables that talked to her. We ordered drinks and our meals, my friend ordered the OMG burger, the same one she'd had before, and I ordered the goat cheese fondue and macaroni and cheese. Side note about the mac, I asked specifically if it was just mac and cheese and no toppings and what made it "adult." Waitress said the only addition was white wine. Fine, I like that. But she lied. Our food came out after awhile, and clearly, WC does not know what "fondue" implies and that bacon would definitely count as an addition to mac & cheese. So, the fondue was actually about a tablespoon of cold goat cheese on top of some oil and olives served with some buttered, warm temperature bread. Completely underwhelming. I was hoping it would at least be warm; I could get that from Melting Pot. And then I see allllllll the bacon atop my mac and cheese. Normally, I could just send it back. But, lucky us, the electricity in the entire restaurant goes out just a minute after our food was served. After no update or check-in for about 5-10 minutes, the waitress finally comes by to tell all 3 of our tables that the kitchen is closed and there is no ETA on when it'll be back up. She tells the other 2 tables they are welcome to leave if they want, the drinks would be taken care of, as their food had not yet been served. While the smoke from the wood-fired grill flooded the dining area and we started sweating because it was so hot, we asked if we could move outside and she said that the managers wanted everyone to stay because it was "safer." Uh, I was suffocating in the smoke? That's not very safe. Asking to speak to a manager, she said they were busy dealing with the electricity issue. So, I just wrapped my jacket around my mouth and nose and we ate as quickly as we could. (Note: I had to take my inhaler on the drive home because it was hard to breathe.) I felt like I was being held hostage a bit by Whiskey Cake, just because I'd been (un)lucky enough to get my food! Ate my dollop of "fondue" (it's cheese and bread, hard to screw up) and scraped off the top layer of my mac & cheese that was bacon adjacent (it was pretty good after that) and my friend scarfed down her burger (she said it was good, at least.) We wanted out of there ASAP; it was so uncomfortable. We asked (and waited and waited) for how to take care of our bill without electricity; she brought out the total written on a piece of paper and the old school sliding machine. No offer to comp our drinks or discount or anything despite the miserable experience. We were so over our dinner, we just needed to leave. Didn't even get to try its namesake dessert. And looks like I never will. So, if you want a dining experience that feels like you were kidnapped and held in a dungeon with better-than-prison-food options, feel free to visit Whiskey Cake. At your own risk. read more

Me and my sister met up after we got off and I was looking forward to WC because I've had it bookmarked for atleast 6 months. We came on a friday so of course it was busy but I was pleasantly surprised our wait was only 25 min. We were seated and served by one of the best waiters I've had in a long time, his name was johnathan and he was personable, and attentive without lurking to much so he definitely gets 5 stars. Anytime I try a place I'm excited about i usually go overboard even ordering because I want to taste multiple things so me and my sis started with the goat cheese fondue and fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, seasoned just right not to salty and the tomatoe had the right firmness to it, but that goat cheese fondue ya'll was all the way on point. I was wondering how goat cheese, green olives ,garlic and roasted tomatoes would taste together, well it was so good. The creamy goat cheese with the mellow flavor of the roasted garlic and sharpness from the olives was pleasure to my palette and I pratically ate the whole thing solo. For my entree I ordered the chicken and cheese melt and my sis ordered the chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, our meals were a let down. My sandwich was very bland and I regret not asking for the avocado to be removed because it didn't add anything to the sandwich and leftovers were a bust. My sister who loves chicken and waffles was unimpressed with their version and the gravy which she asked for on the side was not that great. I ordered the whiskey cake for dessert and it was bomb! The cake was super moist, had a great taste of toffe and i loved the textural contrast of the sugared pecans on top. The cake came with fresh whipped cream and it took it over the top, definetly save room for that cake! Though our entrees were a disappointment, we had a great time and I'll definitely be back! read more

I am rating this place 5 stars based on the whiskey cake alone....it was AMAZING...life-changing really..lol! I saw another yelper state that this place was like one of those places that you see on the Food Network or one of those restaurant channels...and I 6000% agree. The atmosphere, the staff, the menu..everything about it is a unique experience. You have regular table options, the bar, couches, lazy or hanging chairs on the patio...it's like modern mixed with classic...like all the best features of visiting your grandma's house meshed with all the awesomeness of a modern and trendy (or swanky) new establishment. You feel like you're thrown back into a little piece of history while still being in 2017...which is so great for someone that can appreciate history while loving many of the advances we've made in modern times...almost like Westworld..haha! The cake was phenomenal. I can't even go into detail because just talking about it makes my mouth water...you HAVE to go and experience this for yourself...assuming you're not allergic to nuts of course. The huge portion of cake comes with homemade whip cream..omg! So soooo good. It was incredible. I could probably find every word in a thesaurus that's a synonym to incredible and list it here...I can't say that enough. Aside from my obvious obsession with the quality of this cake, I was also thoroughly impressed with the variety offered on the menu, very unique dish offerings, with locally provided...which is something to celebrate. The bar doesn't disappoint either, with a plethora of unique cocktail options and several handmade healthy non-alcoholic drink options (such as the Hulk and Little Pink)! So if you're thinking about checking out this place...GO!! You will not be disappointed in the slightest. read more

Been here for dinner, brunch, and now HH. Always consistently great food and service. For our most recent visit we both ordered the house old fashioned. For only $5, it's a steal. And lucky for me, my wife thought hers was too strong so I got hers and she ordered some kind of guava drink, which was also delicious. We ordered the deviled eggs, a local board and an OMG burger. The deviled eggs were good as always. I was really impressed with the local board. It had house made beef jerky along with locally made sausage and cheeses. I know people rave about the OMG burger but that was the least favorite plate for me. The kettle chips that it was served were good but the burger was just ok. read more

We were there for Valentines Day today. It was busy and even so @Sydney our server was personable, smiling and made you feel like you were her only customer. ...and very astute. We were chatting about a food ingredient and she went to get the chef. Now the chef, @Carlos, we clicked, what a pleasant guy. He stayed and talked to us for a looooong time. And when we were getting ready to leave he came to say good bye. Well done. Now the food. The cauliflower soup was outstanding. Creamy, woody but yet little grainy so to feel the cauliflower! Candy pork belly. It comes on a aural rack. You got to try the drippings off the rack, candy and spicy. The pork belly is well sliced (could be a little thicker not by much) candy taste well chard with lots of smokey flavor and when combined with the pickled tomatoes and the onion dip ... out of this world. Now here comes another awesome dish. Simple, but the veggie taste is offside..just should not be allowed, the Arrosto Misto. The farm bird very well served with Brussels sprouts. It was 1/2 bird but not too big and succulent. The sprouts fantastic taste. And the whiskey cake, well that is what they are known for. Enough said. Chef Carlos, well done all around. read more
