Went here with some girlfriends that I only get to see a few times a year, so we like to go someplace nice. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and this was a perfect spot. Service - impeccable. Isaac was our server and he was ready for us as soon as we were seated. He took a moment to remember all of our names and that made the experience all the more memorable. Our table was wobbly, so Isaac moved us to another one. All the food was served promptly and Isaac was refilling our drinks for us regularly. I forgot my receipt when I left, so I called in and a manager texted me a photo within minutes. Drinks - dirty marty, extra dirty. Lemon Drop. Redheaded Marg. Tequila Sunrise. Three of the drinks were served in martini glasses and came with a sidecar of extra to refill the drinks - nice touch and makes you feel like you are getting more. The dirty marty wasn't dirty enough, so she got an extra sidecar of olive juice. Food - yes yes yes. App was the Guacamole from the specials menu. Nothing unique, but very fresh. Trout almondine with couscous. She loved the fish, but the couscous was a little heavy (it's the pearl kind, not traditional). Filet and baked potato. She ate every bite! Presentation on the potato was next level. Crab cakes, fries, coleslaw. I got to try this - the crab was huge melt in your mouth chunks. I'm coming back and that is what I will order - hands down. I had the cilantro grilled shrimp special. It came with seasoned rice that had tiny diced veggies in to make it so fresh and light. I also asked for the roasted cauliflower on the side. This was topped with parmesan and some kind of oil drizzle. Loved it! The star was definitely my shrimp - perfectly grilled and I loved the smoky flavor. Cilantro sauce was great and I should've asked for more. Dessert - Presentation was very impressive for all the food, but the desserts were made with extra love. They include so many thoughtful, flavorful touches that really elevate the meal. * To Start: We had the deviled eggs (which come with amazing candied bacon), the Hong Kong Shrimp, and the charred artichoke served with a phenomenal tarragon remoulade. Even the Caesar salad stands out because they use fried croutons! * The Mains: I had the perfectly grilled medium-rare filet with a baked potato, and my wife loved the Texas Redfish. * Dessert: We finished with the carrot cake, which was excellent. Decided to give this place a go. Was definitely excited to have it not far from where we live. The place is nice inside and very open, but be prepared to yell. It is very loud Had a reservation and was seated right away. Took a minute or two before someone came up to take our drink orders. I ordered Barone Fini Pinot Grigio and my SO ordered a Paper Plane cocktail. At least 2 times someone came by with red wine meant for an other table. So, their service is a bit scattered. For appetizer, we ordered the deviled eggs, which I'm normally very picky about, but these were delicious. My SO ordered a club sandwich, the dish he gauges restaurants on, and I ordered the Texas Redfish with the cream sauce on the side. His club looked and tasted amazing. He missed the center piece of bread that is typical in a club sandwich, but he still enjoyed it. The shoestring fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly My fish arrived incorrectly and had to remake it. Despite that mistake, when I finally received my plate, the fish was cooked perfectly. This place is fine. Meat and potatoes mainly. I've been to this location twice. The service is always exceptional. The wait staff is always very friendly and present when you need them. My water never got more than half empty before it was filled with fresh cold water. They don't do ice unless requested, but that isn't an issue since they serve it so cold and ofter. The ambiance is typical of a slightly upscale American place. You can smell the wood fire from the kitchen when you walk in My first visit I opted for the burger and fries. The burger was well cooked and seasoned nicely. The fries are okay if you like very thin shoestring style. Thinner than McDonalds and much crispier. I think I prefer something that still has that creamy potato interior that these fries did not have. They are all crunch and get cold quickly. We left feeling happy and satisfied. On my second visit I didn't want something so heavy. I read over the menu and it all looked quite heavy. I opted for the Alex's salad with shrimp add on. The shrimp came out a little over cooked and didn't have much if any seasoning on them. the salad was pretty plain with some basic veg and croutons, nothing to write home about. It felt like airport food. The salad didn't come dressed and all were served on the side. Normally I don't like them leaving it up to the patron to mix their own salad since the table does not come with a mixing bowl and a pair of tongs, but on this occasion I think I dodged a bullet. The blue cheese dressing is pretty strong. I like blue cheese for the most part and usually have a hard time finding a place with bad blue on the menu. This was a very pungent blue that had a sharpness that didn't sit well on my palate. I decided just to salt and pepper my already sad salad. I did my best to enjoy everything, but I just felt like I went to the wrong place for lunch today. My advice is come hungry and wanting meat and potatoes. There isn't much left of the menu if you don't want that. All the dressings were pretty high in fat, so this isn't the place when you are trying to get a beach bod for the summer. read more

I made a reservation for 5 which I recommend doing. We were seated promptly in a cozy corner booth perfect for our party of 5. Someone quickly came by to take our drink order. Soon after our main Server Whitney came by to introduce herself. She was wonderful and attentive. As for food, their specialty in my opinion is comfort food. Saturday night and thank goodness we had a reservations because the place was packed! As you walk in, you are immediately greeted by a hostess team with a smile and a warm hello. The horseshoe bar divides the two dining areas and adds to the fine dining vibe. The feel is a very classy ambience. Perfect start and I highly recommend it. For entrées, we tried the roast chicken and the ribeye Maui. The chicken was a whole half chicken syrup with mashed potatoes. Tender, juicy, and very good. The ribeye was cooked as ordered and tender. It was drenched in sauce more than I expected, but it is noted on the menu. Not sure I would order the ribeye again. Came with three pieces & the side of au jus. So fulfilling & hearty. My mom had the salmon with lemon brocolli. I will say her salmon had to be sent back half way through for not being cooked well. We started with the spinach queso appetizer, which we highly recommend. We loved this dish years ago and it still tastes the same! We also shared Emerald Coast shrimp, Texas Redfish entree, fries, and Mac & cheese. Portions are huge and again all dishes were prepared wonderfully and delicious. The reason for 4 stars is service delays. Our server was very nice, but our visit was over 2.5 hours. We had a reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived. Then, the delays started. We wanted to blame it on the kinks of being a new restaurant, but some parties arrived after us, ate their meals, and were leaving while we were still waiting for our table to be cleared. The first time we went it was their opening day. Which was also my birthday. I love the location in Livonia, MI and was so excited to find out that DFW would have J's opening and on my birthday- was too good to be true! We get there and they say happy birthday - no mention of a dessert, no thanks for celebrating with us as we open and it's your birthday- they brought me a candle to put into the carrot cake we ordered. Okkkkay, they just opened let's give them a chance. Have gone back 4 times since. Service , well sucks. Each waiter has been unfamiliar with the menu, food is inconsistent and every time we go we have to ask for a refill on our water about a thousand times before it happens. This never happened at the Livonia location. The service there was polished and well executed which should be the case when you are dropping 100 dollars plus for a meal. I hope they improve. We spotted this new restaurant and decided to give it a try. Two friendly hostesses told us the wait was 30 minutes, but we could get the full menu at the bar. Leo, our bartender/server, was fantastic: friendly, attentive, and on top of everything even with a busy crowd. We like to rate our meals 1 to 10 (10 being amazing). Appetizers came out quickly: deviled eggs - 9, Alex salad - 8, and potato soup - 8.5. The deviled eggs were stuffed over the brim (it made me wonder what they did with all the egg whites!), and the soup tasted fresh and homemade. For dinner, hubby had the Redfish - 8, and I went with the veggie burger - 9. I'm not vegetarian, but I'll often try a black bean burger, and this one, made with black beans, oatmeal, veggies, and soy sauce was full of flavor. My only tiny gripe: it fell apart a bit, so I had to switch to a fork halfway through. We split a key lime pie for dessert (he gave it a 9, I gave it an 8 (Pappadeaux's is better), but it was enjoyable. Several staff members checked in to make sure we were happy. Not sure what the hype is about. Food and service was not great. Prices are exorbitant. My table shared the grilled artichokes. They were the least meaty artichokes I've ever had. On top of it they were way too smoky and had an overpowering thyme flavor. I also got the caesar salad with grilled chicken. The dressing was fine but the croutons were so buttery that it took over the freshness of the salad. On top of that, the chicken was extremely spicy which I think should be called out when ordering. The ambience immediately stood out--nice, new, and fresh, with a polished but comfortable vibe that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for a business or date night. For cocktails, I started with the pineapple margarita, which was refreshing with just the right balance of sweet and tart. My appetizer was the Spicy Hong Kong shrimp and it absolutely delivered--bold flavor, great heat, and a perfect way to kick things off. For the main course, I ordered the salmon with lemon garlic broccoli. Flavor-wise, it was excellent, but I did ask for my salmon well done, and unfortunately it came out undercooked in the center and became very mushy as I ate toward the middle. That said, the manager personally came out, was very apologetic, and handled the situation professionally. Since I had already eaten part of the dish, it wasn't comped, but he sent me home with an additional plate, which I truly appreciated. I also tried the smoke-roasted chicken, and wow--perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, and literally falling off the bone. Paired with the smashed potatoes, it was easily one of the highlights of the meal. The server was attentive, friendly, and on point throughout the evening, which really added to the overall experience. Despite the small hiccup with the salmon, the service recovery, staff professionalism, and quality of the food left me very satisfied. We had a wonderful experience! The food was very tasty. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The restaurant was beautiful and we sat in the private dining room. We had deviled eggs and calamari to start. I had the special drink - strawberry lemonade martini, delicious. I love that way they bring more in a little bottle on ice. So it's like I had two martinis. I ordered the Thai chicken salad and my husband had the redfish. Nick Stager is the Coach in Charge of Service and came by several times to check on us. My wife and I are retired leadership and management consultants, and we complemented Nick on how well his team works together, even on a very busy eventing. We waited for a table even though the restaurant was less than half full. My wife noticed when we walked by a table that it had our name on a card saying it was her birthday. We were sat at another table with a card for someone else's reservation. When I told the waiter about this and why we were there, he just laughed and took the other card, never even acknowledging my wife's birthday. We selected this restaurant to celebrate this year's wedding anniversary. This was our first time at this restaurant's new location. We ate at J. Alexander's Overland Park, KS location many times. We had reservations and was greeted by the young ladies at the front entrance and seated shortly thereafter. Our server, Tre came out and welcomed us and introduced himself. He congratulated us on our anniversary with a nice card signed by several of the restaurant personnel. From the menu, we ordered salads, Texas redfish and crab cakes. The entrees included Louisiana rice, green beans, and coleslaw. All food items were generous and well-seasoned which required take-outs containers. Finally, the warm spice carrot cake was the knockout punch! We picked the right spot and no disappointment. Why live in Paradise when life in Plano offers such restaurants variety and home delivery? Shucks. I read great things about this place and was excited to try it. Our server took our drink order and asked if we wanted to get appetizers started. My wife and I each ordered a drink and two appetizers, calamari and wood-fired artichokes. The appetizers came out super quickly, but unfortunately, our drinks did not make the voyage. In fact, they were 5 minutes behind. At least we had water at the table. The calamari was very average, not bad, a little chewy maybe, but forgettable. The artichokes were inedible, literally. My wife had never eaten artichokes before so I showed her the correct way, peeling off one petal at a time, dipping the petal into the sauce, then scraping the flesh off with your teeth provided the petals are firm enough to bite on to. But these were not. While quite flavorful, the artichokes were either overcooked or too small as the petals just tore with little effort and had very little meat on them. We sent them back and the server mentioned that he would take this off of our bill. The manager came out shortly thereafter and apologized to us and offered us a free desert. While totally unnecessary, we appreciated the gesture. We got through our drinks pretty quickly so we ordered another round. I ordered the Maui steak with mashed potatoes and my wife ordered the cheeseburger with fries and a side of mac and cheese because the menu did a great job of tempting us. Our food arrived, but sadly we were still waiting for our drinks. Also, I didn't realize that my utensils were gone. I wanted to flag down our server but he was nowhere to be found... or any other staff for that matter. Almost as if they were all on a break together. Very strange. Meanwhile, I sat there watching the whisps of steam from my steak gradually cease with every passing moment. I waited seven long minutes for a someone to ask for a fork and knife, which might as well be an eternity when you're hungry. The steak was quite tasty and cooked pretty close to what I asked for, but was very grisly. Albeit, it was a rib eye, but probably one of the fattiest steaks I can remember ordering from a restaurant. The mashed potatoes were the rustic lumpy kind which is ok, they were just cold, most likely from having to wait so long to eat them. I should have had our server replace them, but I was hungry and didn't want to wait again. My wife said her burger wasn't great so I tried it. She was right, it wasn't great... it actually wasn't even good. The burger was overcooked and had zero seasoning on it. The bun broke apart so she had to eat it with a fork and knife. Our server said the burger was cooked on the wood-fired grill, but had none of the wood-fired flavor, in fact, the meat didn't taste much like anything at all. So disappointing. The mac and cheese was a homerun though and she wished she should have just ordered that instead. We ordered the carrot cake courtesy of the manager, and it was amazing! All in all, I know that this restaurant only opened a few weeks ago and they are probably incurring some growing pains, but there are some fundamental issues that need to be addressed. Since the ambiance was nice and our server was friendly, I would reluctantly give them another shot in the future, I would just probably have to be a little more assertive voicing my concerns when issues arise. Food and service are on point - even during busy nights. Glad there is a J Alexanders in the Dallas area, as we enjoyed it in SA.

Normally I critique after three visits especially after a recent opening, however, I will leave a review. Front door customer service was nice. You can tell they are well over staffed as they are still in training. Craft cocktails were good. I had a Doppelgänger that was decent. We ordered the sushi rolls and I thought the Cowboy was the best considering this is not an Asian restaurant. The Crispy Rice was chewy. Probably overcooked. According to my friend, the Prime Rib was chewy and just not a good cut of steak. Baked potatoes appeared to have been sitting under a lamp all day. So my friend ordered the Maui Ribeye which was served rare when I ordered medium. We had the Mac n cheese that came out watery and all I could taste was sour cream. Clearly we left disappointed and hungry. The carrot cake and Key Lime pie was delicious. Service was good and they wanted to make it right but it could never get right. I know they need to work out the kinks and I'm willing to try them again. This is not the JA's that I remember. I hope to update this review with a better more improved one. read more

I've been twice since they opened and they've only been open for 8 days. Food, Service/atmosphere: 10/10. Artichokes are incredible. The Thai tuna salad was fresh and just perfection. Had the poke bowl and it was delicious. The key lime pie was the best I've ever had. What makes this place extra special is the fantastic service. Big shout out to Madeline. She was terrific and went above and beyond to make us happy. The staff is clearly proud of their restaurant and makes you feel welcome. Pro tip: make reservations! Great ambience. The food was okay and nothing too great - a bit overpriced! Alright for the price one would expect great service - but i found service staff to be a bit down cast and may be not too happy to work here. The place would most likely suffer in future due inconsistency in its service and experience ! read more
