Turkey chili - too spicy for me
Shannon W.

I had my best friend meet me here on Wednesday- Sept 9 for her 50th birthday lunch. I live in Flowermound and she lives in Forney so I picked a spot in the middle- mind you I've been here MANY many times over the years but she has not. I made a reservation in advance requesting a booth (since it's a tad quieter) so we could visit and have a nice long lunch having driven so far to meet up and celebrate. We were sat at a table - right next to a very large group and it was so loud we couldn't hear anything we said to each other, I asked the hostess why we were sat at a table and no effort was made to rectify the issue. My husband and I have both made reservations and table requests in the past and have never had an issue. The spot is usually held for us. And the hostess did say she saw my request on the reservation- apparently just ignored it. Then came our server. Bless her for trying but serving at a restaurant is NOT her gifting. She was very very slow to arrive (over ten minutes seated before she showed up) and she immediately got my drink order wrong, when I told her she just stared at me and grabbed my drink and came back with the correct one but a lemon and not the lime I requested. When I asked for my lime - she literally walked back with it IN THE PALM OF HER HAND!!! Three different times she removed food or drinks from our table without asking if we were done with them. She was never apologetic or kind when she made a mistake and really seemed very unaware of the "service" job altogether. My friend and I are overly nice to service people. I still tipped her very well! But the lunch was a disaster from start to finish and NOT the first time experience or birthday lunch I hoped to provide for her. We started with the goat cheese appetizer- it was good as always tho a tad too much garlic. My friend got the chicken melt after asking our server several menu questions and not getting clear answers. And I went with the turkey chili but it was too spicy for me so I took it home. The server asked if I'd like some additional chips to take home with it and never brought them. We have long loved Whiskey Cake and this wasn't a good look at all to have my friend as a returning customer. The server who brought out our appetizers was very lovely- and when she stirred the goat cheese for us and got oil everywhere, including on me, she apologized profusely. Mistakes happen- and her response to it was professional and kind. And THAT is the star I'm giving. She gets the star. The rest would be a very sad zero.

So yum! My mom and I stopped here on a whim because I was craving a burger, and whew, I'm so glad we did! The food was delicious, with all kinds of special sauces and tasty flavors. And our waiter, Michael, was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and so pleasant. Excited to come back and try other menu items in the near future.

A very sweet bday whiskey cake

Whiskey cake was gorgeous and a great spot for groups. We came for a joint birthday celebration and immediately sitting down my date finds a cricket chillin' on the table. They shoo it away as not to scare the birthday girls and we still go ahead and order. The service was fantastic! Our server was very kind, knowledgeable and funny. She helped us decide between food and drinks ! Now i was , at first, not a fan of the crab cake because the smell was throwing me all the way off but after dousing it in hot sauce and lemon juice, i can say that it became edible. The chicken and cheese melt was not my favorite , if i could go back and not order it , i would. The chicken was dry, and the flavor was below mild. The most flavor it had was the pecan bacon. I think if they paired it with honey mustard instead of pairing it with no sauce at all, it might stand a chance at being good. The macaroni was the best part of the entree. It was creamy, mild in flavor but thick and i love a shell pasta. As we were boxing our food, my date found a red hair in his food (none of us at the table had red hair). This experience was very mixed for us and outside of the whiskey cake and macaroni being delicious, i am unsure if i will be back here.

Met my friend last night to catch up and was delighted to try the charcuterie board, so many components, so delicious and the martini was fantastic. It was very busy, but the service did not lack always a fantastic time.

From the bankrupt ruins of Plano Tavern comes this place. Hated it at first but it's grown on me and now I love it ! Great menu - farm to table goodness - and on point staff!

grilled shrimp rigatoni 5/5

We made a reservation on a weeknight around 5:30 pm and got seated in a few minutes. The restaurant was already pretty crowded by then, due to their happy hour from 3-6 pm. They have small plates and limited selection of cocktails for $7, which is not bad at all! We were able to get a few drinks before happy hour ended; our waitress was pretty good at reminding us about it. I got their great rum punch and my husband ordered their old fashioned. They also had a guava gimlet, which I will try next time! Drinks are 4/5 due to their inconsistency of their old fashioned. For appetizers, we ordered their brussels sprouts. They were pretty good, and had grapes, ricotta cheese (?), and pecans (?) in it. Tasted really good altogether. 5/5 For our main entree, I ordered their grilled shrimp rigatoni and my husband ordered their fish n chips. Both were great. I definitely will be ordering my rigatoni next time. It had the right amount of flavor and had a kick to it, but it wasn't spicy. The fish n chips were good; the fish was huge! 5/5 Overall, we will definitely be coming back and trying their whiskey cake dessert. We were way too full to get it this time around. Our total bill (without tip) came out to be ~$81.

HH charcuterie and hummus
Shirley L.

It's nice they were open on Christmas Eve and took reservations in advance. We overheard that the wait for no reservations were 3 hours as we were being escorted to our table! For a party of 15+, we expected there to be a wait for things. We were fortunate enough to still participate in their daily happy hour during M-F from 3-6 pm. The HH charcuterie was sad but the spinach dip and hummus plates were decent. They forgot 1-2 HH drinks and charged us full price for some that were ordered. They even forgot one of the kids milk drink and another kids meal while everyone was eating. My medium steak turned into rare, it was very under cooked and chewy I couldn't finish it. The highlights were the Candied Bacon appetizer, featuring thick-cut bacon glazed with a bourbon-infused toffee sauce, and their famous namesake Warm Whiskey Cake dessert. We ordered 2 with ice cream for 15 of us and it was just the right amount.

Grabbed some friends and decided to try out brunch. I called ahead and asked about wait times to which I was told it wasn't bad but she went ahead and took my information. When we arrived I was beyond happy that we had done that as there were people everywhere. We were served by Chris and he was extremely helpful, describing dishes, making suggestions and even making accommodations - I don't drink grapefruit juice but wanted the mimosa flight. I ordered the fried green tomatoes, and either I was really hungry and the mimosas were getting to me or these were some of the best fried green 'maters I've ever had. My friends ordered the brussels sprouts and enjoyed them so much that one got an order to go. The pancakes I ordered were okay. I hate to say, nothing to write home about, but you got plenty but they were pancakes. Simple. They said something about lemon strawberry butter or something but I didn't taste that and the strawberries didn't taste like anything. My girlfriends on the other hand both enjoyed their meals. We were told we should get the whiskey cake but we had no room left for it which basically means, try it next time, as we will be back!

Farmer's Breakfast
Deloney D.

First of all, these were some of the best Brussel sprouts I have ever had. The Whiskey Cake restaurant's signature appetizer is their Fire Roasted Brussels Sprouts, which features Boursin cheese and grapes as key ingredients, along with a hot honey vinaigrette, spiced pepitas, and parmesan. Whoever had the idea to put this all together, I hope they got an award for it. The mimosa flight was colorful but not sweet enough for me. It's a lot of alcohol for a lightweight and might need to be shared. My eggs were scrambled hard to perfection. My breakfast was good. Our server was Chris. He was very helpful and very attentive. Everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered.

I ordered the Baja fish tacos, and they were absolutely amazing, definitely a highlight of the meal! Others in our party tried the hamburgers, poke bowl, and steak chilaquiles. While most of the food was enjoyable, the chilaquiles could use some improvement, as the chips were overly soggy and there simply weren't enough of them to make the dish as satisfying as it could be. The drinks were decent, although they weren't necessarily the standout of the experience. Overall, we had a great time, enjoyed the atmosphere, and appreciated the opportunity to gather over brunch with good company. And it was only about half full though ,so I think the presentation was more for display than the actual drink. The drink itself was okay. I ordered the fish and shrimp tacos, and unfortunately, the food just wasn't for me. I didn't really enjoy the flavors of the fish, shrimp, or the combination of ingredients. The service was good, but the food was definitely the weakest part of my experience. When we checked their reviews online, it didn't look too promising, but the menu sounded amazing so we decided to come back the next day and try the food. I am so glad that we did! Every single thing we ordered was absolutely amazing. We were able to order the bucket of fried chicken for $20 off of the happy hour menu which was four boneless, skinless breaded fried chicken thighs and they came out hot and perfect! They were so good. We also ordered one Baja fish taco and we regretted not ordering more because they were really good. We also ordered the lobster Bucatini, which was an amazing flavor, but honestly a bit disappointing on the portion size, it could have come with a bit more pasta and sauce, and a piece of bread would've been nice for the sauce. We ended our meal with the crème brûlée cheesecake which I was kind of scared to order because I really love crème brûlée but I'm not a super fan of cheesecake but Earl's did it 10 out of 10 perfect! Hands-down, one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. For the drinks, I ordered an old-fashioned and my husband ordered a Moscow mule. Both of our drinks were great, we were very impressed and will definitely be back next time. We are in Plano. Dining tip: in order to take advantage of the happy hour, whether it be for lunch or dinner, you do have to sit in the bar, lounge, and I believe the outdoor patio counts as well. Your basic dining area does not give you access to the happy hour pricing.

Getting a table for four on the patio was super easy, which was a huge plus because the weather was absolutely perfect. Parking was also a breeze with plenty of garage parking and a free valet nearby. Unfortunately, that is where the positives mostly ended. The service was really slow. I walked through the restaurant on my way to the restroom and it really did not seem busy enough to justify the wait times we experienced. Drinks took forever, food took forever, and communication was lacking throughout the meal. My friend wanted to try their new guacamole. Apparently it used to come with corn, but now it comes with some kind of salsa. Flavor-wise, it was actually really good. The problem? We got about ten chips. Not exaggerating. We asked for more and our server initially said no, then said he would ask the manager. We never heard another word about it. At one point, my friend spotted someone she thought was the manager walking around with chips, but he looked completely lost and we never ended up getting anything. Maybe those were our chips. I guess we will never know. As for the food, it was mostly underwhelming. The burger was okay. We upgraded to truffle fries and honestly could not taste any truffle at all. One of my us ordered the avocado toast and felt it desperately needed seasoning. I had the chorizo chilaquiles. The menu mentioned potatoes, which caught my attention because I thought it would be an interesting twist. What arrived was potatoes and chips together. I know chilaquiles are traditionally made with chips, but for me the combination just did not work. Ironically, the potatoes were probably the best part of the dish. The whole thing needed seasoning. What I found funny was how stingy they seemed to be with the chips for the guacamole, but then my entrée came loaded with far more chips than I needed. The standout dish was the almond pancakes with berries. Those were genuinely delicious and the only item at the table that I would definitely order again. I guess in every bad thing is a good thing, since things were slow we ended up hitting 3 PM (start of HH) We were ready to order drinks. We timed them too. It took about 20 minutes. Twenty minutes for happy hour drinks... no comment. Honestly, this is becoming a recurring theme at restaurants. Mediocre food, slow service, and no sense of urgency. The patio atmosphere is definitely the biggest draw here, and I can see why people like it. But there are plenty of places around Legacy West with nice outdoor seating. Thanks, Earl's, but this will be a one-and-done visit for us. 2 stars. The patio was great, the pancakes were excellent, and everything else ranged from forgettable to frustrating.
