Evidently, they have a new head chef. I got what has been my normal favorite dish, and it was horrible! I normally do the smoked chopped chicken salad. It has been my go to for a couple of years. I was with two friends, who also ordered it. It was horrible! The chicken, which is normally room temperature, was hot. The salad was way overdressed! The avocado, which was normally chopped, was smashed, like guacamole. Whiskey Cake is that rare breed of a large format, growing Texas chain that hits the sweet spot of my palate and high notes on service, cocktails, and a highly explorable menu. If it was closer, I'd be here *all the time*. In my recent visit, I had the Deviled Eggs and Whiskey Braised Short Rib. how good can deviled eggs be? I like them already, but these were fantastic, the flavor enhanced by the deft hand of a gifted chef. The short ribs were solid and filling, melty and subtly both sweet and savory. I subbed the brussels sprouts for the pappardelle (keto requirements) and they were bacon-tastic. On our first visit we sampled some cocktails from the large menu, all of which were excellent. On a Friday night anywhere in DFW you will likely need a reservation but I cannot recommend it enough for this location which was VERY busy. All that being said, we had a reservation and we were seated immediately. The food was amazing as always and came out quickly. The goat cheese fondue was creamy and served up piping hot. The drinks and all the rest of the food was very delicious. The whiskey cake was amazing as always and a must have if you'll be dining in. The star of the night for me was the Mac & Cheese. As a lover of both whiskey and cake, this place has it made. We come here on Fridays and sit out on the patio area because we bring our puppy with us. But even so, I've walked in several times and the inside looks amazingly inviting. Each time we visit, we've had excellent service and equally great food and drinks. From 3-6 (I believe) is their happy hour and you can get a great Old Fashioned for $6. Not only is the whiskey selection great, but the food really is memorable. We've only snacked here (fried green tomatoes, poutine, dip/spread and duck taquitos) but everything has been super tasty and I can only imagine how great the items on the dinner menu are. Oh was I wrong, you just have to know what to order. Our waitress recommended the double burger. I was a little hesitant but when she told me what was on it I said why not! The Double has two nice size beef patties, red onions, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, house-made pickles, and mustard seed aioli on a sesame seed bun. All things that I like. Visited with a couple buddies for dinner. Our waitress told us about their fresh juices, and I had to go for the beet le juice (green apples, red beets, yuzu juice, local honey). It was super refreshing and tasted healthy - definitely had a beet flavor to it. I'm a big fan of beet, so it was right up my alley! We got the candied bacon and deviled eggs as appetizers. The candied bacon is cubes of pork belly drizzled with BBQ lime aioli. Very sweet and tangy, and the pork belly is on the fattier side. Deviled eggs were pretty normal, nothing too impressive, but still tasty! I got the wood-grilled salmon (quinoa-shaved brussels sprout salad, maple-peppercorn aioli) as my entree. Appetizer we had the goat cheese fondue with olive tapenade , you have to try this one . Our main courses husband had the duck and I had the short rib. The meat melted in your mouth. When they heard it was our anniversary they brought us their signature dessert, Whiskey Cake, complimentary. Ok, I don't eat a lot of carbs or sugar, but this... I gave up my diet for. I went to this place about a month ago, once with my friend for dinner and the next day with my mom for brunch. We absolutely loved everything! Which is why I went the next day. I probably already left a review the first time I went about 2 years ago but this place is worth the second and third time! It's definitely a very extensive menu! And the staff is very nice! The food is absolutely delicious, they have a spicy ketchup that goes amazing with the fries and the Smokey flavor of the stake. It's worth noting the food has a very nice flavor of the smoke that pairs well with their drinks and sides. Everything is very much well thought of and the presentation of the plates is very aesthetically pleasing. The music is low so you can have a very nice conversation. I had been wanting to try this place because of the rating. I was disappointed with the food. None of the food was seasoned at all. The atmosphere was nice but a little dark for me. I couldn't even see my menu. Our waiter Omey was amazing. He tried his best to make our visit great. He catered to us all night with substituting things. The drinks we order has so much ice in it that it watered down the drinks. I have never had 3/4 ice in a drink. I have never had small crushed ice in a drink but water. We had the appetizer fried green tomatoes that wasn't seasoned at all or very lil breading. The mussel were okay. That was the best food that we had. Our dinner was the Pappardella pasta with braised beef. The pasta wasn't seasoned, it was bland. The braised beef was good. I had to ask for salt & pepper & Cajun seasoning and extra meat to try and eat the meal which by the way I didn't. My friend has the Shrimp & grits and the meal look like an appetizer. The shrimp was okay but the grits and sauce was bland as well and had some type of gravy not sauce. Most shrimp & grits dinner meals comes in a big bowl, this came in a lil plate with 3 shrimps on grits as a dinner entree. We was given a dessert for free which was the whiskey cake with ice cream. It was just okay, nothing to write home about. It had a lot of bourbon in it which was a lil too strong. Unfortunately when we told the manager and she asked us if we wanted anything else we declined because we picked what we thought would be the best things there. Didn't want to try anything else since nothing had seasoning to it. I will not be trying this restaurant again. I usually give restaurant another try but this one doesn't seem like it will be any different until they learn how to season their food. Came in around 1:30 on a Sunday with reservations and the place had a decent amount of patrons. Would say that a reservation is nice but not needed and they definitely had some room for walk ins. My party of three sat at a high top table and proceeded to order our first meal of the day. I got the What the Fondue (wtf) burger, medium rare and my burger came perfectly cooked, with a side of fries and house made ketchup. Really good burger, loved the arugula and tiny pickles that came with it. For dessert, we all shared the whiskey cake and wow, I would get this dessert ten times over if my stomach had room after my meal. We went here last weekend for brunch. The space was cozy and inviting. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the menu, he offered us guidance because he regularly eats there himself! The French press coffee is amazing. It's also large enough to split between two people. The fresh squeezed juices also are not anything to sleep on! We got the Beet-le juice and the Jessica Wabbit. I'm not a fan of beet juice, and I thought the amount of beet juice in this drink overwhelmed the green apple and yuzu flavors, but my partner liked it. My juice was much more well-balanced and had a nice fresh hint of mint without having a huge handful of mint leaves muddled in the glass. The carrot cake pancakes are super interesting, but not something I would order again. There were one too many powerful flavors going on -- you get a strong taste of ginger and nutmeg in the pancakes, vanilla from the syrup and cream cheese icing, and heavy lavender from the dried lavender sprinkled on top. I think taking away the dried lavender would really help the dish not be too overwhelming. The amount of lavender works for a bite or two but then starts to taste soapy. So, if you get this dish, I would ask for your lavender on the side so you can control the amount you put on your pancake stack. The croque madame-it was the other dish we ordered and IT WAS AMAZING!!! Hands down, we are coming back here and ordering it again and again. This was a lovely southern twist on the French classic. Super saucy, well-balanced, and large enough for two. The fresh salad on the side provides the perfect counter-balance to the heaviness of the sandwich. 10/10 would recommend getting this dish! read more

I didn't try their cheese plate but my cousin said it was one of her favorites. Also, what's up with the vague menu descriptions for the cheese plate? It would be nice to know exactly what you're ordering instead of having to peruse Yelp for some sort of guidance. I was not impressed with their burger or their chicken and waffles dish. Both of these dishes looked nice in pictures but, in actuality, did not wow me. I do think that the portion sizes are great for the price you are paying. The whiskey cake really lives up to the hype. It was spongy and did not have a strong whiskey taste or any whiskey taste for that matter at all. The cake almost tasted more like a toffee flavor and not exactly at all what I expected with it being a whiskey cake. It is a lot on a sweeter side though so if you are used to "asian cakes" like those from tous les jours, you may not like this one so much. Well I have been to Whiskey Cake once before about a year ago. It was really good. This time, I was disappointed in the chicken & waffle I received. My waffle was overcooked and not fluffy at all. The chicken was also slightly overcooked. When I go to restaurants more than once, I expect consistency. My sister's chicken & waffle was perfectly cooked. She let me eat her waffle since I didn't want to eat mine. The warm cinnamon roll, my sister's chicken & waffle, and the whiskey cake is why I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 3. I think that the food is way overly priced especially for the drive from Dallas to get there. There are a lot of really good restaurants I could go to that are way closer. Bottom line, for a $20 chicken and waffle meal, that is really steep for how much food you get. If you want an expensive meal that might be cooked right, come here. read more

I'd give this pace a 10 if I could. Other than the initial interaction with the gray person wasn't great it wasn't enough to kill the review. When we arrived we waited about 5 min to be acknowledged by anybody when it was a server behind the host stand with her back turned. We tried multiple times to get her attention and when we finally did she asked what we needed . My husband and I looked at each other like ummmmmm to be seated.... She did go and get someone so that's that...... now when we got seated, or waitress Carolina was AWESOME! We had our young kids with use and she interacted with them and served them just as good as she did us. One thing I think is really cool is that the kids meals come out on lunch trays. That little minor detail is a nice way to include kids in the experience. Good job whoever thought of that.
