Love the environment, the service, but didn't like the food. Why does Seattle oysters have to be so small and pretentiously pricey. I have been to many places where you can harvest oysters in the world, other places would have tossed away the ones Seattle would sell for $5/pc. I love Westward. It's a little pricey, but I love Westward. The food is fantastic and I'm a seafood and oyster lover so it's the place for me. The decor and ambiance is also incredible, and the outdoor views are also unbeatable. I've come here many times and it's 10/10 every time. Let's be honest, I come here for the oysters, but none of their menu items have ever disappointed. This is a place that I will continue to frequent and recommend. It's the perfect spot if someone is in town visiting and you want to give them a little taste of Seattle as well! My only wish is for them to extend their happy hour to more than just 4-5pm Mon-Thu. read more

Our son and his wife arranged to meet us for dinner at Westward on what turned out to be a very busy and hot early September evening at the restaurant, with a corporate event on the patio. We got there 15 minutes early, and as the patio seating was full, the host offered to set up a little table for us while waiting for a larger table, capable of seating the four of us, to come available. Whoosh, a table, two chairs, a table cloth, utensils, and glasses of water appeared - extremely accommodating. We ordered an appetizer and drinks, which appeared nearly instantaneously. Our other couple arrived at the agreed-upon time, and we were quickly moved to a larger table indoors, where we ordered a variety of oysters and other goodies prepared in quite a number of different ways. Personally, I'm no big fan of oysters (I don't like cilantro either, sorry!), and for some reason I couldn't find anything else that I personally liked. But the service was excellent, and everyone else in our little group thought the food was great. $$$$ read more

Great view, okay food, gone crazy with prices. It's one of my favorite places especially for oysters with a view. I went after 3-4 years this ride and was pleasantly surprised to find a reservation for two at a short notice. The view was great as always. Food service was quite slow even though the place was only 50% occupied. These days I am very accommodating of the small businesses and restaurants dealing with current labor shortages, prices , lack of business etc though westward is part of a big corp. Still I have no grievances with the hard working restaurant staff. Their food was alright - tasty not nothing extraordinary. The shocker was the quantities for the price. The salad for $20 came with just lettuce 1-2 snap peas chopped up, friend onion garnish and a dressing in a side plate. No other veggies and the portion was so small for the price. The crab roll was $40 for a small roll with no accompaniments .... A dill dip in a small size with potato chips $13. The bill for 2 with the 4 small plates stacked up to $145 with no drinks, no desserts. Even after getting used to Seattle's increasing prices, this was still a shocker. I am sad to stop going there cos I still like that place... But it kind of explains why there were so many open tables . I hope their mgmt is paying attention and adjusts their prices to get their customers back. read more

My friends and I stopped in to Westward for happy hour. They have an awesome outdoor setup with a regular patio and a seating area where you can sit in Adirondack chairs facing the water. Luckily we were able to grab a table on the patio for the last bit of happy hour. They have happy hour from 2-4pm on Saturday and Sunday. We specifically went for the oysters, which rotate daily and are $2 each during happy hour (there was one variety from the West coast that wasn't on happy hour pricing). My boyfriend and I got two of each of the daily offerings: aphrodite, disco hama, eagle rock, moon shoal, and skookum. The menu tells you where they all come from which is really nice. I am by no means an oyster expert; I usually just know which ones I like after I've tried them, although I am familiar with some of the more common varieties. The ones we tried were all good! Most were pretty mild and not super briny. They were all wonderfully fresh and not fishy at all. My favorites were the Skookums which tasted sweet and scallopy! The seasonal mignonette was blackberry and it added a bit of sweetness and acidity to the oysters. I had a great time at Westward and would spend many happy hours here slurping oysters if I could! read more

They have a great wine list--I had the hightower cab which was excellent. I started with the burrata. This was really good--with some apricot that went great with the cheese and some perfect grilled bread. For the main course I had the salmon. This fish was fresh and cooked just right. It came with an original but very tasty relish--a really great dish. For dessert I had the olive cake. The plan was just to have a bit or two, but it was so delicious I had the whole thing. Since the pandemic, upon my return it feels that everything in Seattle has gone up in price, including the HH offering at this place. I have to say it's a little lackluster to offer $1off oysters and drinks from 4-5pm. Nah, there are so many places serving oysters here in the greater Seattle area, it's a little hard to spend $3-4 for one oyster. The view is okay. The remodel exterior by the fireplace is alright, but it does create a lot more outdoor seating during the pandemic. The Stellar Bay oyster from BC was a great recommendation from our server. My friend's daughter was no longer an oyster virgin that evening. She tasted the ocean as I would tell her. I also ordered the geoduck ceviche, which was amazing. But the prices here are really pretty steep. $30 for entree, $20 for small plates, $16 for a salad etc. We shared a dip with chips and a loaf of bread also. We did not order main entrees and the bill easily went over $100! If you are on a date and the other person is buying, you should definitely recommend this place. If you are the one buying dinner here to impress others, then make sure you bring a big fat wallet. Do not say I did not warn you. I'm originally from Malibu area in Los Angeles, so my standards for waterfront restaurants and seafood are high. Let me tell you this place lives up to them!! The staff was very friendly and patient. We were there a while and never felt rushed. They even brought us some of their amazing fancy bread on the house. We sat on the patio on a perfect summer evening and enjoyed the water and the lights when the sun went down. You can even see the space needle. The drinks were SO good (although a touch overpriced) and they had so many options for spirits and wine and more. The food was incredible. We had the seafood tower, octopus, radish salad, crispy duck, braised ribs, and their house bread. (There was only 3 of us, you'd think we never ate before lol). I had such a great experience at this restaurant, I can't wait to return. I visited Westward as an out-of-towner with a couple of friends had had really great interactions with every one of the servers I interacted with during my visit. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Our server Craig really made our evening with his friendly attitude and great personality. He is such an authentic person that he can't help but use his joy of life to provide such a personalized service. The setting of this restaurant at the waters edge is the perfect atmosphere to enjoy some great drinks and food. We loved the Mezcal shooters, delicious oysters and some other small plates. He couldn't even tell us what type of oysters they were. Oysters were not even shucked properly.. 4. The Cod was an example of what not to serve at any establishment. COVID precautions are taken seriously... hand sanitizer upon checking in, masks up whenever server is by the table, plenty of space between tables and open air. We sat under the tent underneath a heater. It was quite warm up top but got chillier as the night went on legs down. Was a pretty windy night but all in all pretty comfortable. Drinks: Boys of summer cocktail with mezcal only (no tequila). LOVED this drink! Perfect mix of smoky, tart/tangy, spicy. Not sweet. We ordered a bottle of a Cab/Syrah/Tempranillo from Baja California. Very low acidity and light bodied... I tend to like heavier bolder red wines but this was easy to drink and fruit forward yet not sweet. Paired nice with oysters actually. Apps: Oysters (so fresh!) - got a mixture of the Hama xs and baywaters. Also tried the mezcal shooter because why not. I love mezcal but did not love this combination. Kind of jolting to system with the oyster and then crunchy peanut. It sure wakes you up! We also tried the beet salad. Beets were amazing and the yogurt but texture of daikon was very crunchy didn't incorporate other flavors very well. Tend to like beet salad to be mostly beets or beet texture haha. Entrees / sides: ok wow these were the best dishes I've had in a while. The clams were in an amazing broth and had some of the best bread I've had. From local bakery Seawolf I believe. The braised spare ribs with jalapeño vinegar and cilantro were cooked perfectly. Meat falling off the bone. Loved the cilantro too to balance the savory. Last but certainly not least the crispy fingerling potatoes were the best non fry form of potato I've tried. So crispy and savory. Outside crispy/slightly crunchy even yet inside was and flavorful. Overall lovely night with great food. Price points are on high side but you are paying for a view. Service was good...not overly friendly. Guess they don't really do anything for bday despite the note / bday greeting from host. Definitely did not leave overly full, but not hungry either for about $210 before tip. So not a cheap place for a couple drinks each trying multiple things on menu, but can bank on great drinks and tasty food (and a view even on a cloudy day)! read more

When it's sunny and beautiful outside, this place turns into the best place on earth but the line can get long and you won't be able to get the outdoor seating near water. Make reservations! The food was good with oysters fresh and salmon spread was great and they refill the crackers for you. This place is amaze!!! Discovered it driving home from Gasworks one night and saw the picnic chairs overlooking the water and couldn't help but look this place up. The happy hour is a MUST! $2 for the local oysters on the menu. And the oysters they have are amazing and the mignonette makes it that much better. I find that anything other than the oysters seems to be very expensive and small portion sizes. The drinks are well priced and delicious! THE OYSTERS! I believe the mignonette that they have is rotating the one we had was a cucumber dill and it was so good and refreshing! Our favorite oysters so far have been the Olympic Wild but the Chelsea Gems are also delish! The service here is also amazing. I felt like whenever we were done with the plate of oysters it was seconds before someone came and took the plate away. Or always asked if we needed more drinks. Now that it is sunny in Seattle expect a wait for the outside. We had dinner here a few months back during COVID. It was two of us seated indoors with the doors and windows open for plenty of airflow. There is also heated and covered outdoor seating if you'd prefer. There are also a few tables next to a cozy fire pit. This was my second time here, and I have to say, MUCH better than my first experience. The spicy clam dip with kettle cooked chips is a must! Oysters make my world go 'round, so of course I had to try some on the half shell. I also tried the baked oysters topped with roasted garlic ancho butter - I was not a fan. The ancho butter had an off putting after taste, but my boyfriend loved them, so I guess it's all about personal preference. We also tried the hama hama manila clams with garlic, chorizo iberico, modelo, and leeks. This dish had so much potential -- 1. It came out cold. 2. The cured chorizo was so tough, I could barely chew it, BUT it had amazing flavor. This dish really missed the mark. The braised spare ribs with an added side of fingerling potatoes were my favorite along with the clam dip. The meat was so tender and juicy, and packed with flavor. Overall it was a decent experience. The cocktails and service were excellent! Although some dishes were better than others, I will still give this place another shot. read more

We got a table inside near the bar after having our vaccination and IDs checked at the door. We started with great cocktails, a few oysters, and the dill dip. After that we had the scallop ceviche, which I found truly allowed the freshness of the fish to shine with very little acidity. The tomato salad was incredible - the smoky guajillo oil really gave the dish an unforgettable flavor. The duck leg was fantastic, and the chickpea fritters were light and crispy with plenty of flavor. Overall the space was fun and inviting, and the service was top notch. read more

Westward was bought by Renee Erickson a couple years ago (2018) so the yelp reviews mostly don't reflect how the food is now. I didn't realize that since I didn't like the food with the previous owner so I stopped going and was happy with the change. I love all of Renee's restaurants. The food, service, and ambience are great. The servers are very nice and professional. There's lots of outdoor seating (with heat lamps and fire pits) if you want to meet up with friends there. The views of the water are pretty. They ask you wear a mask when ordering and talking with your server. They have you put on hand sanitizer when you first walk in and also before you use the restroom. They seem to be taking protocols seriously so that is nice. We ordered a lot of food and everything was delicious. read more

It sucks feeling like an afterthought with what should be a nice dining experience. I made a reservation for Westward, anticipating a positive and special experience of dining. From the moment we walked in I felt like somebody's lost step child. The reservation made for 7:30PM on a Saturday night (we showed up at exactly 7:30PM) had the front desk person (dressed VERY casually in a hoodie) telling us we would have to wait at least 20 minutes for our own table. She was pleasant enough but seemed as chaotically inclined as the restaurant itself. It took some doing to get her to seat us at the far end of the bar. There were other seats but we were sat off to the side, the far side of the kitchen bar area. It took even more doing to simply get a drink--at this point time is passing even more. It's approximately 8:10PM or 8:15PM before we do get a table and then we get a shared table. That's not what we were told we would have. Eventually, the waiter shows up (that takes even more time he's not prompt either). We ordered a dozen oysters, the chicory salad and a salmon steak. The first two items come quickly and the salmon takes a ridiculous amount of time, far longer than promised. Why did the waiter not anticipate the firing of the fish to make the timing reasonable even semi-reasonable. The kitchen was closing and I simply felt like there I was at the end of the night the lost stepchild, what an unpleasant experience. We had arrived at the restaurant two hours earlier which should've been peak dining hour. I kept debating whether to ask the waiter to simply bring us to check before the salmon arrived and decided not to be unpleasant or make a scene. At this point I wondered why we stayed in the restaurant and didn't leave immediately. My date is a little antsy at how long it's taking, as well. The food was OK. By no means horrible but by no means particularly remarkable. When you drop 170 bucks in a restaurant for two people, I think you should reasonably be able to expect a dining experience that leaves a pleasant memory. I've been to far less touted restaurants on a regular basis that made me want to go back again. I won't return and I won't give the restaurant good marks. read more

To be fair, we came in late without a reservation so they weren't sure if they would be able to serve us so we hustled and ordered fast. Clam dip was really good we were the homemade potato chips. Problem was the chips were beyond oversalted which took away. The chickpea fritters were excellent but it was like a tapas menu sizes. Maybe 4-5 little triangles. Excellent but hardly a meal. We recently moved from Connecticut and were excited to see how the seafood in Seattle compares - we'd heard great things. This is the first place we tried out and it did not disappoint. There was a decent wait because of how popular the spot is, but they offered canned drinks to take to go while you wait which was a nice touch and kept us around! When we were finally seated we went for the small tower which had oysters, shrimp, ceviche, and caviar. 10/10 delicious, fresh, and well plated! For drinks we got the My Sherona which is a gin based drink and it was delicious as well. We will be back! read more

So it's mainly an oyster bar. Which is perfect for my wife and daughter. I however, don't like oysters. But I got the spicy clam dip, and yes it was spicy! But oh so good. The chips it came with were obviously in house and nice and crispy to go with the dip. I also got the spicy peanuts which were oh so spicy but went great with the wine we chose. I noticed on the seafood tower that they had Baja blue shrimp but said they were only on the tower. I asked if they could do a shrimp cocktail and they agreed to. The sauce was Smokey and spicy and the shrimp were large and so tender. I'm glad they did it. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the oysters. read more
