All of the dishes were super tasty and our server very friendly. Portions were a little on the small side, reminds me of high end dining in Europe. Expect to spend $100 a person if you are having some wine. Boaters: the west or south side of the dock is all open for patrons of Westward. The north or east side is private moorage they rent out. Dining was all outside on their lovely patio. Ensure you bring your mask as they ask you to have them on when servers are around for their safety. No reservations so I would get there early, if not expect to wait a bit for a table. read more

Our son and his wife arranged to meet us for dinner at Westward on what turned out to be a very busy and hot early September evening at the restaurant, with a corporate event on the patio. We got there 15 minutes early, and as the patio seating was full, the host offered to set up a little table for us while waiting for a larger table, capable of seating the four of us, to come available. Whoosh, a table, two chairs, a table cloth, utensils, and glasses of water appeared - extremely accommodating. We ordered an appetizer and drinks, which appeared nearly instantaneously. Our other couple arrived at the agreed-upon time, and we were quickly moved to a larger table indoors, where we ordered a variety of oysters and other goodies prepared in quite a number of different ways. Personally, I'm no big fan of oysters (I don't like cilantro either, sorry!), and for some reason I couldn't find anything else that I personally liked. But the service was excellent, and everyone else in our little group thought the food was great. $$$$ read more

Lovely place right on the lake. We scored a table in the enclosed patio with beautiful views of the city across the water. Everything on the menu was tasty and perfect for sharing with a group. We ordered everything below for four people which was probably just a bit too much food, but prices were reasonable and it was impossible to eliminate anything! + Started off with a variety of oysters, $2 each during HH and a fab Manhattan style cocktail. + Crudite- crunchy pickled veggies were delish even without the dipping sauces + Grilled octopus- tender and tasty with a bright green fava bean hummus + Wood-fired beans- warm and cheesy in a thick, sweet tomato sauce. This was a crowd pleaser + Radiatore pasta- a large plate draped with creamy taleggio cheese sauce, slices of sweet squash, kale, and olives that added just a bit of brine. This dish was really rich (couldn't eat the whole thing alone) but so tasty. + Whole rainbow trout- deboned by our talented server tableside and served with romanesco, this was tender and sweet from the brown butter + Side dish of grilled radicchio- this was my fave plate. loved the slightly bitter radicchio, creamy labneh, tart pomegranate. Wonderful!! We definitely didn't need dessert, but ordered the butterscotch pot de creme (YUM!) and the corn cake (not my kind of dessert, but everyone else loved it). My complaint is to the City Of Seattle(wish I could tag them) And I feel so sorry for Westward to have to deal with this.. but the RV/homeless situation outside of Westward is absurd. I would personally donate to Westward to have them get more concrete blocks and tow all those broken down RVs and filth that's outside their establishment. Employees can't park, customers can't park. This is one of my favorite spots in Seattle and we have never had a bad experience. I was commenting to my husband that I couldn't believe we didn't visit westward this summer so he promptly made a reservation for our anniversary (smart guy). Smart in that he listened and in that he made a reservation. This place seems to close fairly often for private events so it's a good idea to check again, they usually post on Instagram if this is happening so that's a great place to check if you're going last minute. On nice days, I highly recommend ordering some oysters and sitting on the Adirondack chairs. It's one of my all time favorite summer activities. Unfortunately, this visit's weather was rainy & cold so we sat inside. It was Sunday evening, so somewhat quiet but still plenty busy. I love the ambience of this restaurant, I'd call it slightly hipster meets nautical meets fixer upper. A good balance. We did sit by the fire outside on our way out for a few. Also, we have always had great service here and this visit was no exception. Now for the food (finally, sorry). We did the scallop crudo for an app and then the trout and gemelli pasta for entrees. Each were delicious and prepared well. I don't know that I've had scallop crudo before, so it was nice to try something new. I always really enjoy Westward's crudo offering. The pasta was perfectly al dente, not sure if they make it in house or not. They de-bone the trout for you at the table, which is a nice touch. It was perfectly juicy, with crispy skin and light but enough flavor. Overall, another great experience at Westward. Cant wait for our next one! read more

The hostess prioritizes walkins over reservations for outdoor seating! The couple before us had no reservations and were seated immediately in lake view outdoor seating. We were told we had to wait until our reservation time 30 minutes later to get lake view outdoor seating because the hostess was "reserving these spots for guests with earlier reservations". Another couple came while we were waiting, they had no reservations, and the hostess was about to seat them outside with lake view until my wife gave her the death stare. Then we got that spot. I'm pretty sure the restaurant knows that those who have paid for a reservation are sticking around, whereas the walkins might go next door to the brewery and not come back. We will never place a reservation here again. Also the menu is the same as three years ago, kind of blah, and the drinks are just alright. Our server was amazing though, so friendly and polite. Was unfortunately really underwhelmed with our dinner here. The ceviche was the best dish - a unique preparation that stood out from more traditional flavor combinations I've had in the past. I was surprised to see that westward doesn't have great reviews. Made a reservation and went on 7/24. It was busy but we were able to sit outside. The food was fantastic. A bit expensive but worth the price. We got the halibut, chicken, fresh oysters, and the panzannella salad. The views were amazing and the service was great. Street parking was very easy to find on a Sunday evening. I will definitely be back, especially with out of towners! read more

Everyone on here seems to be upset about the pricing, possibly forgetting the fact that this restaurant primarily serves seafood... fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt that the amount I paid was 100% worth it due to the great food and very patient waitress we had. We had a lot of questions regarding dishes and she was more than willing to go into detail about each dish. On top of that, we had such a great view. The sun was out, we saw little ducks, and were far enough from people to not hear conversations. Only downside is that parking is a pain in the arse. I would return again, though! read more

The most expensive short ribs covered by a forest of dill that you have to dig thru to find the meat, which is under there for $37.00. And yes, I'll admit, it was tasty when we found it. People seem to review this place highly, so I doubt my review will deter anyone, but if you thinking of driving over to see what it's like, I say save your time and money. When visiting Seattle recently, I made a last-minute decision to check out the patio of Westward on a rare day when the weather was nice. Since I was traveling with my pup, I only got to dine outside, and when I arrived, the staff was super accommodating (they even watched my pup when I badly needed to go to the restroom, haha). The outdoor space offers a great view of the lake and it was a great afternoon of fresh oysters and wine. The menu has Mexican influences so the vibe is festive. I also got the steamed clams that were made with a different, almost curry-like broth that was delicious. Overall, it was a great experience but I did withhold a star because of the costs. I'm sure there's probably a cost for the view, but it seemed high, especially for the market-priced oysters. I got a dozen oysters that came out $48, or $4 each, which is probably the most I've spent for oysters (even in San Francisco). So be prepared for the high prices if you're hoping to also enjoy the weather and the food here. read more

Terrible experience at Westward. I had taken a friend there to celebrate her birthday. We ordered oysters. Within an hour, it was clear my friend had food poisoning due to toxic seafood. All the symptoms from throwing up to gastric issues. She felt faint. We had to call 911. The paramedics came and confirmed that it was a case of food poisoning. While the woman who was serving us was very helpful, the manager did not come out once to check on my friend. Then even charged us for the meal while the paramedics are taking care of my friend. Who does that?! When a customer is sick in your restaurant due to the food you have served....how can you charge for the meal. And how can the manager not even come to check in on a sick guest?! I am shocked! I would think twice before I eat there again. read more

Went here for happy hour on their patio facing the water- they have 2 rows of adirondack chairs facing their dock so it has amazing views of Seattle. Their drinks are great- the port and tonic is like a wine spritzer and was my favorite drink. However their food (at least the bar food) left much to be desired. Their dips are not good, felt like I was basically eating sour cream/greek yogurt with some herbs mixed in. They do make their own potato chips so that was a nice touch. Their parking situation is horrendous/a hazard. There are about 6 spots in their tiny parking lot so most people have to park in the not so lovely area across the street. There is like a homeless/car camping situation going on and I didn't feel safe parking or walking back to my car after the sun set. I'm not sure how the business or city of Seattle allows such a thing to exist as it is quite a nice restaurant and I would imagine the parking situation does deter some people from returning. I would return only for the views/ambiance and their port and tonics, wouldn't necessarily recommend eating or parking here. read more

Welp... It's been a long (... looooonnnnngggg ...) 16 months for this self-professed foodie! However, 10 days ago (6/24/2021), I finally broke my pandemic restaurant drought for a much needed celebratory dinner to honor a BFF's (Ms. Italiana) bday. Given this was my first foray dining out in a post pandemic world, it felt more comfortable outdoors... plus Seattle summer, YAY!!! Looking through my Yelp bookmark notes + a little other research, I arrived at Westward which has been on my list forever but I have somehow never been. Apparently their beachy "Adirondack chair set-up" is the big appeal but the vendor logistics in order to remove the winter decking and tenting has apparently been problematic. I made a reservation the week ahead, because I am a control freak who is not going to spend 2 hangry hours waiting around.. but could only get 9pm, luckily ok by my friends! I'm also rusty on my Yelp reviews as I forgot to take pics of all dishes after the first 2 and of the menu. It seems... I just sat and created a memory ;) The view, the food, the company, the weather, the service were all amazing! The three of us shared everything family style. Except for the round of 4 raw oysters I got solo ... mainly because my friends are oyster wimps ;) -- But then I am at a Sea Creatures joint, so not ordering oysters would be a cardinal sin! Come for the view, but not anything else. A week prior my friend made a reservation for 5:30pm, requesting seating by a fire pit. The day of our reservation was one of those rare sunny and warm Spring days in Seattle, perfect to sit outside by the fire! Excited, we arrived 10 minutes early, and 2 of the fire pits were empty. After 5 minutes of waiting, the hostess greeted us with the level of excitement I have when seeing my dentist. She sprayed our hands with hand sanitizer and proceeded to walk us to a table in the back, with no view. When I asked if we could be seated by one of the empty fire pits, she told us those have to be reserved, sounding like something she gets to recite to annoying guests multiple times a day. I quietly mentioned that we requested fire pit seating in our reservation. The hostess stated fire pits were not available this evening, but graciously agreed to seat us at a table with nicer view. We started with a round of drinks, oysters and a dip recommended by the server. The drinks were good but the main aspect that stood out was the price. One can't go wrong with oysters, but our order had to get mixed up because we didn't get the kind of oysters we ordered. The chips and dip didn't stand out in any way, and reminded me of something I'd pick up from QFC. For the main I had the crispy duck leg. It was extremely salty, and the entire dish felt unnecessarily greasy. I couldn't taste any garlic in the garlic aioli; instead the entire dish tasted like deep fried, over-salted duck leg served on a very generous bed of mayonnaise. One of the fire pits remained empty during our entire stay. It was my 10th time at Westward (I use one of those apps which helps me track places I've visited). Over years, it has consistently one of the best views in Seattle, but equally consistent impersonal service and mediocre food at steep prices. read more

Great view from the north end of Lake Union. I thought the beer, wine, and cocktail offerings were more than decent. The dips with chips were tasty. We had a the spicy clam dip and the dill dip. No bread was on the menu that day but it was on the online menu. Excellent service. The halibut was good but not great. Pork spare ribs were kind of fatty and heavy on the vinegar. I would return and I recommend this place but it's quite congested with people walking in the road due to lack of sidewalks. Parking is tight. Cyclists zipping in out of nowhere make it kind of stressful. Maybe all of this was because it was one of the first really nice (warm) days. I recommend making a reservation. Not a lot of seating and people were lined up after we left our 5 pm reservation. read more

Delish flavors but we both felt the halibut was very salty. As we were finishing and offered desert we were told we needed to leave in 20 minutes as our 2 hrs were nearly up. although we had 1/2 a bottle of wine still and there were multiple empty tables. Extremely rude experience. The tab was $300 before tip. We spoke to the host on the way out and he was very defensive and would not acknowledge our complaint. I think everyone knows the ambiance/location of Westward is hard to beat. The food also doesn't disappoint for the most part. Lots of varieties of oysters to choose from. We tried the olympic wild and hama hama. Both were plump by my favorite was the olympic. The spicy clam dip and dill dip were both great (clam was better with nice full clams in it). The spot prawns were AWESOME. Super rich in flavor and lined with some type of roe. The dish was really good but such a small portion for the price. The spicy seafood stew was larger but not as flavorful but still quite good. The one dish that was a major letdown was the pork chop. There was a massive chunk of fat that made up about 1/3 of the chop. The chop and the cabbage side were both tasteless and tough. For drinks the Boys of Summer and Baby Come Back were excellent! Loved the kick of spice. Service was fantastic as well. read more

Possibly our fault for coming on a Sunday. Tried to reserve, but it didn't really come through so we had to wait at the bar for an hour. Eventually our table was ready but they didn't want to let us order from the brunch menu even though it wasn't 2pm and the table right next to us was putting in their brunch order. Altogether awkward from a service perspective. Seems like a great spot if you luck out or know somebody. I will not go back considering I had to work with 6 different staff members to have 2 bloody Mary's and then got charged for extra things on the bill. Our 3rd server got confused and couldn't get the 2nd round of drinks to our table so I had to get help from others to check out. read more

Decided to stop by after spending some time at Gas Works and so glad I did! The restaurant has its own private dock and Adirondack chairs outside to enjoy a lovely view of the water. Definitely a great spot to come and catch a sunset. If you're looking for true PNW vibes + cocktails, look no further. The sparkling water was one of the best I've ever had. The cocktails were strong. Service was excellent. My friend and I only ordered olives and potatoes, which were delicious, but next time, I'd love to try the oysters. This spot is definitely on the pricier side, so I'd recommend going for happy hour or saving this spot for date night. Will definitely be back for the views! read more

Four stars is a big, BIG stretch...but our waiter was really nice and the hosts sat us for our reservation about 45 minutes early and they're busy so I thought that was super accommodating. So high ratings for the hospitality and view. Man. The seafood tower was beautiful to look at but the little dishes of colored vinegar that came with it were just that. We asked if they had cocktail sauce and our seafood purist server that looked like a golden Seattle Jesus with a lip ring chuckled and said they did not have any but kindly offered to bring out some horseradish. Okay guy, I appreciate you and I'll take anything to make this giant shrimp cocktail taste like something. He brings out a tiny bowl that resembled saw dust. Oh my god. So I rolled my cold giant shrimp in said dust and shook off the excess. Am I doing this right? I wanted to ask for some ketchup so I could mix it with lemon juice and make this $200 meal taste good but I didn't want my classless, central Louisiana taste in shrimp to show any further. We also ordered the halibut. That was pretty good....but I like cocktail sauce so what do I know? And maybe I'm just used to gulf coast oysters? Goodness those half shells were very, very salty. What a beautiful location. We wanted to be there at the opening time - and not for happy hour. But for the outdoor law chair viewing Lake Union from the Fremont side view. Stunning. We were there about 15 minutes prior to opening to secure two of the limited outdoor seats. One suggestion - as it was a HOT day they did have water on the inside of the seating area.. would be nice if they just turned that around maybe like 15 min prior to opening so the people standing in 85*+ can have a glass of water. Maybe this normally is? Maybe it was forgotten? But looked like a super easy way. I heard a lot of people saying they were thirsty... or maybe it was for some of the amazing cocktails!! Lined our way in and got assigned two seats with clearly marked numbers on the back. Sat down and had water at the table, and a beyond gorgeous view. We weren't front row, but it didn't matter! We ordered two of each oyster, and two happy hours. Our favorite was the Disco and Inlet. We also ordered additional oysters and the waitress asked us our favorite and let us get that for the happy hour price. Cool move and was appreciated. We ordered a bottle of Rose sitting on ice, at the waitresses suggestion. It was amazing. Last second decided to snag a order or chips and dip! Very good. Post oyster heaven, were wanting to split an Entree. We chose the Rib and it had Bing cherries and was over a lovely little greenery. Delectable. Super tender and wow - it was flavored so well. Great service, nice staff and good views. Only suggestion is a purse hook holder of some sort for the ladies... :) will definitely make a stop by again this summer. read more

This place was 5 stars when it first opened. It felt casual but upscale, breezy and reasonable. Reminded me of something you'd experience in a place like Montauk. It feels different now. The menu is extremely limited (might be a Covid thing though). The coveted fire pit and Adirondack chair section that of course was unavailable half the time Just Because (because this is Seattle and there are RULES) is now a standard deck, the wine bottles start at $45 and the oysters are $4 each. Oysters are very rare here, you know. It just feels like everything else at this point. Too pricey and they ditched the the main thing that gave it character. I get that they don't want cheapskates camping out all afternoon drinking Rainier, but still. The trend of establishments that should be fun and approachable acting pretentious and exclusive is so 2005. The cocktails were fun and amazing. If they came with that kind of atmosphere again, we'd have a real winner. read more

The oysters here were incredible but it was the ambiance that truly puts this place over the top! I came in for happy hour with a few friends. It's a $1 off oysters and select drinks (including a white wine I had that paired phenomenally with my oysters). My friends and I tried all of the Washington oyster options (8 varieties) and was impressed with how fresh and well curated the selection was. And best part of all, we ate in their heated tent and enjoyed the dock side views! With the rain, it was as Seattle of an experience as one can get!
