This is the 8th time writing this hopefully without crashing this time.
I have been coming to this Diner at least 1-2 times a week since 1980's as I live in the area. Saturday at 4:45, four of us went to the Westchester Dinner for the first time since Covid 19.
They no longer have the large selective beautiful menu. They now have a laminated one large sheet that gives you no options except on the bottom where it tells you how to figure a tip (not that you do not have a cell phone with a calculator right in your pocket). I believe it was suggested 15%, 20% and 25%.
Only 3 cars were in the dark parking lot with one table taken other than ours. Years ago, by this time we used to stand outside waiting for a table on a Friday, Saturday. If there were more than 4 people, we made reservations.
The busboy suggested a booth that was so tight, we had to move to a table or hold our breaths. The place is neat and simple with the name of the towns on the wall such as "New Croton" instead of Croton-on-Hudson". It did seem clean and open.
We move to the table and I had to carry over the one plate with the silverware on it. No one set the table even when we were ready to order. We ordered grilled cheese sandwich w/fries, another grilled cheese with the most rubbery salted bacon, that had to be removed before eating. I asked for just a sandwich as I did not want fries but I was told "no choice", a cheeseburger w/fries and chicken cutlet panini. I took the fries and the panini sandwich home. When the person who had the panini this afternoon they found this 1.5" bone sticking out in the middle and 2 bones attached in the middle about .5" wide. If this was a child and chocked as this grown man did, they could have died from this. What kind of cutlet has bones? We ordered 2 coffees and 2 sodas. The coffee was old and bitter. I believe it was sitting for sometime. Looking at the menu I had no idea it was the prices next to food. I thought the numbers next to the food was the number of the order. Like... I will have a #23. The prices were too pricy for locals, this is not midtown. The total amount when we walked out 1/2 hour later, after I set the table for my company, and paid $81.00 for 4 sandwiches, fries, and 2 coffees and 2sodas. The waiter said 5 words and thank you when he took the order and I set the table, napkins and silverware. He left the bill but did not ask to take the money to pay so I could add the tip on my card. I had to explain this to a cashier that I wanted to ad the tip on. She not only did not say a word, she stood there looking stupid. I do not think she spoke English. I will never go in their again. What a disappointment? Where was the owner? Did no one train the waiter? The busboy was the best out of all the people that work their. read more
