Tacos al pastor were spot on!!! We got this on DoorDash based on local recommendations. I was skeptical, but am so glad we tried it. It's the most authentic Mexican food I have had since Mexico City. I love the taquerias that are off the beaten path or the ones that are most popular with the locals. This place did not disappoint. We all loved our entrees and even the chips and guacamole were spot on. If you can get delivery from them, don't miss out. In a strip mall all the way to the end, not a lot of parking in the lot across the street. Had to park adjacent to the curb which I despise. I got the steak burrito and it was serviceable. The steak was the best tasting item in the burrito. I thought the rice and beans were pretty tasteless, nothing sour cream can't fix. The red hot sauce that came with it was bland. My colleague was not impressed with his steak enchiladas. Some people love this place others think it's decent, nobody thinks it's bad. But it was a block away from the guitar shop.. so we went over to have lunch . Azteca is a small little deli inside a 1970s cement strip mall just off of Main Street in Peekskill . He can't see it from the street. But if you park your car next to or from Dunkin' Donuts and walk inside the mall you'll see as Tecca in the corner. Park your car for a quarter an hours time and walk into the back. You will be pleasantly surprised. I am a big chicken fajita fan, but this deli does not serve Americanized Mexican food. It serves the food of South America. So when you order chicken fajitas, you may get something you're not quite expecting. The place is a deli and does have several tables inside where you can eat. I would recommend it if you do find it and go. The differences in the food that I had ordered and what I had expected was pleasantly surprising. I've been back several dozen times . I try to order something different all the time. The fish tacos are awesome. If you have your food there or you have it for takeout. The deli smells delicious and the service is courteous and fast. The food here is authentic and tasty. The service is also great. This is a deli but they have a small seating area inside and outside if you'd prefer to stay and eat. We usually order to go. They mostly speak Spanish when ordering but they will have you hold for an employee who knows the language. The prices have gone up quite a bit, but we still like to go here once in a while. read more

Mercado Azteca & Deli is the best authentic Mexican food I have found in the Westchester area. It's an unassuming bodega and deli within a busy strip mall, but the food they're producing inside is easily the best authentic Mexican food in the area. My favorite item from Mercado Azteca is their torta, a Mexican sandwich named after the "drowned sandwich" in the early 1900s when a street vendor in Guadalajara accidentally dropped a sandwich in a container of salsa. Alas, the torta. The Mercado campechana torta is prepared with tender pieces of steak and spicy chorizo, adorned with the usual refried beans, lettuce, onions, avocado, jalapeno, and mayo, sandwiched between the pillowy soft bread. There are elements of rich meat flavor, spicy jalapeno and chorizo, crunch of the lettuce, acidity from the onions, and the unctuous deepening of the avocado and mayo. They're massive, they're messy, and they're powerfully flavorful. Mercado also serves sopes, tamales, burritos, nachos, tacos, quesadillas, and cemita. I highly recommend the guac/chips. Perfectly ripe avocados and perfectly balanced in acidity/salt with well fried fresh tortilla chips. read more

Food quality is excellent and very fairly priced with large portions. They charge no delivery fee (as long as you're close enough) so I'm able to tip the driver more! The driver called me when the food was delivered and he waited until I came out to get it. They also surprised me with a free 2 liter! The food was a complete let down. Ordered for takeout chicken fajitas and they put broccoli with it? This isn't a Chinese order? The chicken fajitas looked and tasted disgusting. Over cooked chicken. Also ordered steak with onions, over cooked meat that was so thin and chewy, with No flavor either. We ordered one chicken and one steak taco both were over cooked with no flavor either. Such a disappointment. My husband picked up the food and it was done on time. So at least the food was ready when they said it would be. We usually get the rice and black beans and various tacos, as well as their delicious mexican breakfast (omelette with jalapeños, rice and beans, tortillas and mexican cheese - yum!) Burried deep within the Crossroads Shopping Plaza - a dated 70's era strip mall that we'd love to see rebuilt - Mercado Azteca doesn't exactly draw you in with its looks. A hole-in-the-wall is an apt description. But head in, line up at the deli counter and place your order. Once you sample the food, you won't care about how it looks or where its located. This is some of the best Mexican food you can get in Peekskill. To be honest, Mercado Azteca won us over with their tacos, and their tacos are what keep us coming back. More specifically, the tacos arabe have become our go to order. The tacos arabe are more like mini-burritos than a traditional taco, flavorful pork seasoned with arab spices and lemon, then wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Three come in an order, and you'll wish there were more. These things are addictive. You can't go wrong with any of the tacos, but the menu is expansive and it's worth branching out. We also love the avocado salad, the al pastor burrito, the 1/2 chicken meal, and we've heard great things about the tortas (although haven't tried them ourselves, blame the tacos arabe). Breakfast at Mercado is also a super affordable surprise. Mercado is also one of Peekskill's select non-pizza or Chinese restaurants that does delivery. You can find them on the delivery platforms like Seamless or you can order directly from their website. They're definitely our top choice for delivery nights. Mercado Azteca isn't listed on the plaza sign but it's right next to the Chinese take-out in the back. It's really half convenient store and half deli/takeout but the menus are right on the counter. If you sit inside someone will come around and take your order but if you sit outside you have to order at the counter, at least in my experience. The lengua was perfectly cooked, not too chewy, while the tripa was incredibly crispy, fatty, and delicious. Don't forget to squeeze some lime on the tacos along with the hot sauce and green sauce. The supreme nachos ($11.95) was a mix of chicken, steak, chorizo, sour cream, guac, and a good amount of black beans. Tasty, but the beans really made everything soggy. The amount of cheese on top was good. Wouldn't mind more chips though. Grab a Mexican coke or horchata to go with your meal! My fellow diner ordered a chicken burrito and it was neat that they stuff the burrito with chicken, rice and beans, while leaving the lettuce and pico on the side like a salad and providing guac, sour cream, and salsa on the side as well. The food was great, HOWEVER we felt very uncomfortable because of the following: 1- the cooks were not wearing gloves while handling our food. They just grabbed the raw meat with their bare hands to throw it onto the grill. 2- none of the people handling the food were wearing hats/hair nets 3- some of the workers did not have their masks on properly, so their noses and mouths were exposed. My husband didn't say anything because he didn't want to cause a scene, but we regret that we didn't just walk out. The workers knew that we were looking as well, but that didn't change their behavior either.
