Even if the food was good this experience got off to a bad start. Not having complimentary chips and salsa is unacceptable. Perhaps they've been stiffed by people who enjoy chips without ordering but there's way around that- you bring the chips after the customer has placed their order...either way, it's a none starter. Prices are inline with other Mexican places in the area. The size of the margaritas are on the small side ( they tasted ok). Appetizer are small in size but tasted good. The burrito was ok. This was far from what I expected of a restaurant with such high ratings. First of all the pricing is unhinged- $4.50 for a can of soda? $8.95 for chips and salsa (which i've never seen as a charged item at a mexican restaurant, it's always included). The pricing wouldn't be such a concern if the food were phenomenal but it's far below mediocre. I got chicken enchiladas with big cubes of chicken and no seasoning. I ate one and beyond that it was inedible. My husbands food wasn't much better. The service was minimal but not terrible, and overall it was an alright place if you have no real taste for mexican food or sense of pricing. I want to start this review by saying los abuelos offers the best tacos I've had thus far. I've tried tacos from all over and I usually find the steak dry, under seasoned or too reliant on sauces. I sampled a small piece of skirt steak as it arrived and it was very flavorful. Slight char with precise use of salt. I also appreciate that they honor the traditional way but the tortillas being double wrapped with onion and cilantro. Their al pastor taco was just as good as well. The diced pineapple gave a nice sweet glaze without being overbearing. The service was very friendly and fast giving a very welcoming experience. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the Westchester/ Ossining area that wants authentic Mexican food. read more

Had lunch here twice with a friend and both times we thought the food was delicious and the service was good. The ambiance was nice and casual. Recently, I had the Ensalada de Camarones with oil and vinegar. It was light and refreshing, The grilled shrimp were tasty! I'm scratching my head at some of the negative reviews here. Really nice vibes! Outdoor seating is very nice even with being next to highland Ave. Food was great! Appetizers - Had nachos, chips and guac. Chips were very tasty nice flavors. Entrees were very good portions. Desserts - had the churros and tres leches. Churros were good but it seemed like they were too long. Did not seem like enough for two people. 2nd review 5/5/23 - I really hate leaving this bad review because this is one of my go-to places, but my experience tonight was more than disappointing. In true cinco de Mayo fashion, of course we had to come here for dinner. It was fairly packed inside but we opted to sit outside under the tent. We placed our order with a gentleman who we've seen many times before, it seemed as though he was running the show tonight (maybe he's a manager or owner?) he wasn't at all friendly although he usually is - maybe short staffed and stressed? Who knows. Anyway, we place our order - sangria, beer, guac n chips, carne asada chimichanga and beef tacos. The drinks and guac come out no problem. After about 15-20 min, I notice that the tables around us who sat and ordered after us, got their food before us. The guy running the show, comes over to ask for our order again because someone 'messed up the computer' and our order was never put in - sounds sus since we got the guac and drinks, but ok. In the meantime, my husband orders another beer. The beer comes out and so does another sangria, I'm assuming it's on the house since they messed up with the order. Within minutes, the food comes out. I get a nice big chimichanga, cut into it, and it's a veggie not carne asada, which I might add was $3 extra, otherwise I would've just eaten the veggie one. We tell the guy it's the wrong meal, he takes it back with attitude and out comes this tiny little replacement. Now my patience is nearly run out, but I eat it. We finish and get the check - of course it's someone else's check and was $126. My husband tells the same guy, he takes the check and goes inside (still with attitude) my husband follows and I'm thinking he's going to get some good deal. My husband comes out and says he settled the check, shows me the receipt and it's $116. Im really fuming now as I know this is outrageously high for what we ordered and not even once received and apology or anything on the house. This place has been in business a LONG time and this is certainly not their first go around with a cinco de mayo crowd. They have without a doubt lost a customer and tomorrow I will be returning to settle the check correctly, which is at least $50 more than what we should've been charged for what we ordered. read more

Still no chips and salsa despite a new menu with much higher prices; the waiter got my order wrong and tried to blame me! What does "enchiladas de POLLO" mean? Hello... CHICKEN. I was served beef which I do not consume. It was so disappointing I didn't even eat; I took the chicken enchiladas home when they were finally served. Waiters were too preoccupied with what I don't know; there were only two tables yet it was so difficult to get anything. This place used to be very good and now it's pretty awful. Then my daughters entree came out before the appetizer. And the appetizer was awful. My dinner never came out and the waiter never came around to check on us. Guacamole could have had more flavor. Their house margaritas were not-so-great I was happy I ordered a beer. Desserts were YUM. Especially the churro with oh-so-creamy and thick ice cream although giving us plastic spoons to eat it with took away from the dining experience. Disappointed. I've heard many good things about Los Abuelos, however when I went for dinner it was such a negative experience. Looked like they were understaffed. On person comes to the door and tells us it will be a 30 minute wait, five minutes later another comes and shows us to a table. We could not hold a conversation due to the music volume being extremely loud and on top of that the lights were extremely bright almost blinding. This is the first time I go to a restaurant and experience this, normally by dinner; the lights are dimmed, the music is playing on a lower volume. The food was mediocre, the drinks were horrible. I ordered a frozen margarita, took a couple sips and put it to the side. Tables were left uncleaned, there was clutter all around. I stopped in to Los Abuelos for lunch. The atmosphere was nice. It was clean and I was promptly greeted. I had the taco special thinking three tacos would be enough I also ordered steak quesadilla I should've just order the tacos I would've been more than enough. Both were delicious and presented nicely. The service was excellent. However 36 bucks including tip for a soda quesadilla and three tacos? That's a lot of money in my opinion. For that much money my sock should've been knocked off, and they weren't; it was good but not spectacular. Hence four stars. read more

This place was not as good and I thought it would be. The outside is very cute and they claim to me authentic Mexican. I disagree. The food came out and it was very dry. I ordered shrimp tacos, it did not have a good flavor and the shrimps were overcooked so they were tiny, the taco was just lettuce and shrimp. I had to asked for avocado to add to the taco for some flavor. The beans that came out as a side with the shrimp were room temperature and hard. The only thing good about this place, I can honestly say, were the drinks and the location close to home. I will not be returning to this place and I do not recommend. read more

Food was good but service was horrendous. It's like they went out of their way to provide bad service to me. Waited 15 minutes before anyone came to take order. Then when I ordered a second drink it never came. I complained and someone brought it (not my waiter). The waiter then offered a free drink to the next table when he made a mistake. My bill (after a different waiter brought the wrong one and eventually the right one) charged full price. For the record, the margarita was $15 each on the bill but I could have sworn it said $12.50 on the menu. Nothing fancy either. Just came out of a machine into a plastic glass. The very small piece of salmon had no seasoning and was tasteless. It sat in a broth of orange-tinged water. A sprinkling of what looked like about a teaspoon of steamed garlic bits sat in the water. No garlic taste. No garlic aroma. My order request was correct with no rice and no beans. Perhaps the water broth was runoff from the steamed veggie side packed in the same container or it's usually soaked up into the rice, but regardless, the salmon was a huge disappointment. read more

So so good! Brought the family here. I had the Caldo de Mariscos which is Seafood Soup. It was to die for. I glutted myself on it until I couldn't finish anymore. Ordered Guacomole for the table, which in my opinion was made very well. Our first time from this restaurant. We ordered a chicken burrito and chicken enchiladas to go. They were ready quickly. A little pricey, but these days, that's just how it is. No complaints about the burrito. Good ingredients, good size. Not exceptional or creative, but I'd order it again. There were three good-sized enchiladas, in a salsa roja covered with melted cheese, with sides of refried beans and rice. Again, decent quality ingredients. The salsa, though, was the hottest I've ever tasted on enchiladas, and I've had enchiladas from dozens of restaurants around the U.S. and in Mexico. I enjoy spicy food and will often order it that way, but this was unexpected, and really not very pleasant. I'd happily go back to the restaurant, but I'd avoid that sauce. read more

I wrote a review in the past for the old location. The new location is bigger with better parking and outdoor seating. They have a small band some nights which is nice. Unfortunately overall, it's very hit or miss in terms of food, I've come away happy but I had one experience recently that was just the final straw. With inflation you'd expect some things to change and the problem here is that not only have the prices gone up BUT THE PORTIONS GOT SMALLER TOO! So that's a strike. My last order there, I ordered chicken enchiladas suizas with green sauce. Got home and opened the Enchiladas order... no chicken at all. I mean as in NONE. How do you do that?
