I wrote a review in the past for the old location. The new location is bigger with better parking and outdoor seating. They have a small band some nights which is nice. Unfortunately overall, it's very hit or miss in terms of food, I've come away happy but I had one experience recently that was just the final straw. With inflation you'd expect some things to change and the problem here is that not only have the prices gone up BUT THE PORTIONS GOT SMALLER TOO! So that's a strike. My last order there, I ordered chicken enchiladas suizas with green sauce. Got home and opened the Enchiladas order... no chicken at all. I mean as in NONE. How do you do that? That's the second strike. As observed earlier portions are smaller and prices are higher so three strikes, they're out and I'm not going back. read more

i have been eating at Los Abuelos for many years starting at it original tiny location near 133 in Ossening and the food is always great and the servers friendly. the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. i have am working my way through the menu and have to say they have not disappointed me yet. the same goes for the many friends and family i have introduced Los Abuelos to. i am really happy they made it though the shutdowns read more

It took me a while to send this review because I do actually like their food, when they can get it right. I order from here frequently, and more often than not I get the wrong order or something is missing. The customer service is horrendous 80% of the time. I just had an order that was incorrect and I called back, they said they would bring it right away, it's been a half hour and I had to call them to see the status and their response was "the driver will be getting there soon". Completely unprofessional. If this was a one time scenario I wouldn't mind, even two times, but now it's to the point where more likely than not I'd expect something in the order to be incorrect or missing. They have yet to offer to comp me. It might be time for me to cut ties with this business. read more

Ok so this rating is purely on my dish alone. We did takeout, from what I saw the restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere and seemed like a nice place to eat. I am vegetarian so I typically get a vegetable quesadilla when I order from Mexican restaurants. I ordered the quesadilla expecting the usual pepper onions and mushrooms but I was sorely mistaken. What I received was what can only be described as microwaved vegetables with some cheese. There was broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and green beans... on top of the strange vegetable selection there was no seasoning to be found. As someone who is use to having limited options at restaurants this felt like a slap in the face. If you are vegetarian honestly take your business elsewhere because it seems like they don't care about their vegetarian dishes or customers. read more

I ordered take out from them today for the first time and they did no have my entire order in my bag. When I saw I was missing items, I contacted them and all they could tell me was it wasn't their fault. Zero customer service, zero help. Be careful when you order out bc they will not be responsible if you're missing parts of your order. Would not recommend. Will not order from them again! read more

This is not better than average cafeteria food. It is hard to strip chorizo of all flavor, but they have mastered it. This is something like a mass-produced version of what contemptuous foreigners think Americans must like. Just make food with actual flavor and fresh ingredients and you will get a better review from me next time (whenever that may be). read more

The food here is meh... nothing to really write about here. The chips and salsa were not very good. It all has to start with fresh tasting chips and home made salsa. What I got instead was jarred salsa and Tostitos--big disappointment! The guacamole was ok, not the best due to a lack of flavor. The tacos were bland at best. The fajitas were also flavorless and not worth the price. The margarita was ok, mostly frozen strawberry smoothie and cheap tequila in minuscule amounts. The Burrito was anything, but good. The positive to my experience here was the mariachi which sang two songs and then left in a hurry--maybe they thought the food was not good either. My visit to this place was at least my second time around. I like to see if anything improved from my first experience, but it really has not. If you had a choice between this and Taco Bell, you can choose either to get the same quality. read more

Muy Delicioso!!! Posted on the old one but this location's here to stay! I'm not sure if Kathleen F. went to the right restaurant...because the place I went to was extremely clean, welcoming, and a much better than SOB. The chips were warm and crisp--and most importantly: not stale. The salsa was particularly good; it's fresh, spicy, and had a god consistency. I drank a delicious Agua Fresca. This is our favorite go to place in the area for authentic Mexican. We eat here almost every weekend and the level of service is amazing. The staff know us well and always have a glass of wine for me, a glass of horchata for my husband and our plate of nachos served up within minutes of walking in the door. I love Los Abuelos! I was staying in Ossining for a week and had dinner here three times, something I've never done before. I had the huaraches with cactus salad (a stand-out dish!), vegetable enchiladas, and vegetable quesadillas (choice of corn or flour tortillas - get the corn!). All were generously portioned, and came with a side of rice and beans and delicious homemade salsas to make a well-rounded, memorable meal. The restaurant has a laid-back family vibe and also consistently makes high quality food. I would highly recommend for anyone in the area. read more

As a long time resident of Texas, I'm always in search of great Mexican Food. Los Abuelos is the most authentic Mexican food in Westchester. The mole and all the salsas are made with care and are well spiced. The guacamole is fresh and made to order. I love the enchiladas. I have begun to substitute cheeses and vegetables for the meat; the veggies are fresh, not frozen and very tasty. The rice and beans are perfectly done and very flavorful. I find most restaurants skimp on these sides. I'm thankful that Los Abuelos now features margaritas; they are solid. I'll always keep looking but this is my favorite Mexican joint. read more

This restaurant is a real authentic Mexican restaurant to hang out at the bar or get food. The enchiladas are amazing, the service was great and the overall ambiance was great. When I went there there was live music but it was a bit too loud and we had a hard time ordering but overall everything was great. The one problem that I had was when I ordered the enchiladas I asked if they could do half green sauce and half red sauce and the waitress said that they couldn't do that but definitely a great restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone who loves authentic Mexican food! read more

I once went to their older smaller location and was not that impressed. However this newer, nicer and bigger location was fantastic. Everything wAs sooo good. I love this place! The food is a little more authentic than most of these places and the staff is so sweet and cheerful. They aren't the fastest Mexican restaurant in the world but thats because they seem to make the orders from scratch. Excellent! We hesitated to try this restaurant but after we read their review is GreenOssining, we decided to give it a try tonight, We had Nachos first, and then shared Steak Enchiladas with Mole sauce and Carnitas Tacos, all generously portioned. The carnitas were crispy and delicious, and the homemade Mole sauce was outrageously good. We enjoyed beer with a salted rim & lime, and authentic flan for dessert. This place puts Maya Riviera in Briarcliff to shame. We will be back for sure. read more

The closest thing to real Mexican food you can get around here. It's the only Mexican spot in the area I even bother going to anymore. The huaraches are awesome. Anyone knocking this joint either grew up in Mexico or thinks Taco Bell is good. For everyone else in the middle it's pretty damn good (for Westchester at least). read more

6 guys at lunch: 6 visually good meals, no complaints by anyone, overall good service. My fajitas were tasty, beef steak was tender and including the chicken there was plenty of meat in the skillet, tasty mushroom, onions, peppers, all piping hot. The soft tortillas as well as the refried bean could have been a little tastier. The guacamole as appetizer looked and tasted freshly made. $98 incl. tax for lunch was a good price. I was in the mood for Mexican food, my mouth was practically watering. I didn't want the typical franchise Mexican cuisine so to google & beyond I went & discovered Los Abuelos! So let's get to the point, why 5 stars and why should you eat there? 1. The staff is absolutely phenomenal. From the host to the bar, everyone is very pleasant, helpful & kind. 2 the environment is well maintained and very clean. 3 THE FOOD is so authentic and savory. The portions are huge and the ingredients seem very fresh. I appreciated the food because it was authentic without being overpowering or overwhelming. 4 there's abundant parking and the restaurant is handicap accessible. Some miscellaneous tidbits: child friendly, but I did not see booster seats & the atmosphere feels very much like a mix between an Applebees & salsa Fresca, it's definitely geared towards casual dining. Lastly, I would recommend the shrimp tacos because they are small shrimp that fill the entire tortilla along with pico de Gallo and sour cream & the chicken burritos because they're extremely flavorful and the chicken is well made and well seasoned.If you want guacamole on the side you have to order from the appetizer section to add to your entree. Other than that if you're looking for an authentic Mexican meal and you're in the Ossining area, you won't be disappointed. read more

Friendly atmosphere brought south from the original location. We love the taco plates, so haven't veered too far from that part of the menu. Good rice and refried beans alongside, garnished with grilled nopalitos and spring onions. COLD beer. Yummy guacamole. We watch our waistlines, otherwise we'd be there more often. Sons in law from Mexico and Texas both applaud Los Abuelos, too. Nice gent playing traditional guitar tunes on recent Saturday night, with the restaurant welcome all kinds of folks and families. What a GREAT find!!! I joined 3 other friends at this authentic Mexican restaurant in Ossining where South Of The Border used to be. Well, let me tell you what a treat it was. First my Margarita was perfect! I had a frozen one with salt...SOOOO good! The guacamole was very well made (at the table) with just the right amount of heat and the chips were warm and crunchy! If I could have afforded more calories, I would have ordered seconds. My camerones y pollo fajitas were fresh and tasty and served piping hot! The portions are really ample for 2 to share, however, I had NO intention of sharing these goodies. Oh by the way, the guitar music was a perfect accompaniment to the ambiance of this wonderfully "homey" restaurant. Our servers were efficient and polite. This restaurant replaced SOB, an excellent Mexican restaurant. Los Abuelos took over the space and renovated it. Unfortunately, it lost all the ambience and character of SOB. This place looks more like a cafeteria. The salad came without any dressing. The "cheese burrito" was undercooked and tasteless. Instead of having rice and beans with the meal, these items were tucked into the burrito. When I finished half of my coffee, I discovered to my complete disgust, that the cup was dirty and caked in old food. As I write this, I feel nauseated. This place needs to be avoided at all costs! This was the first time my son and I ate at Los Abuelos, after attending EagleFest in Croton. The waitress was real helpful in helping to choose a good meal and to make it a fun experience. My son had the steak poblanos and Mexican pineapple soda which he loved and I had the chicken fajitas and a Mango Margherita which was well prepared and taste real good. Probably one the best Mexican places I've tried in New York. Ok, that's really not saying much. Mexican food in NY is no bueno. This is la verdad. But, in a world with a dearth of such a wonderful cuisine, Los Abuelos is probably one of the best around these parts. Definitely better than Guadalajara. The only entree I ever order is the cheese enchilada w/ salsa verde. That is some good sauce. I like it enough that I haven't bothered trying anything else. Maybe the rest of the menu sucks, who knows? But I love their cheese enchiladas. The rice and beans are nothing to write home about, but they're not bad. The guacamole is ok, but a little bland for my taste. The tortilla chips are nice, thin, and seem fresh. Basically, if you're looking for Mexican food and trying to decide between Guadalajara and Los Abuelos, try the latter. read more

Giving this place 4 Stars "not for the food" but for the Service that was very good, with friendly staff. There is plenty of seating inside and as one reviewer stated it looked more like a cafeteria, but we came here because friends come here all the time and we all went out for dinner. One Note: the Ladies Room was very clean and that is a plus for me. Now for the food: the Chips were warm and Salsa was delicious, so was the Guamole made fresh at the table. We also ordered a pitcher of Red Sangria that was delicious. However, my Steak Fajitas de Bistec (green pepper, onions, and mushrooms) was just OK because the quality of meat was cheap and very thin. I thought it was strange that they served the Soft Tocos (4) in Aluminum Foil - what happened to the small Toco dish with the lid holding the Soft Tocos to keep them warm, that would have been more professional looking especially for a Mexican Restaurant. The beans that came with my Fajitas tasted good, but very unappetizing looking. All and all, we enjoyed the night out with our friends, but next time we will be picking the restaurant. read more

Excellent for the money, and extremely nice for any family or couple interested in spending a night there. They have a wide selection of drinks and a bar on site, their service is pretty damn good. I recently stopped it literally because I was eating it so often I got tired of it, it became a staple of my diet. I recommend the tacos in your preferred choice of meat. Their tamarind water and horchata are also both spectacular. So if you're ever in the Ossining area, enlighten yourself. read more
