Located in a downtown area, place is pretty big, with a lot of cool seating. Woman working behind the counter was friendly and worked me through their coffee choices. Coffee was delicious, cafe was a great place to sit and relax. I would gladly return!

I was in the neighborhood with a friend of mine, thought we stopped there for something to eat…read more First off - Service is excruciatingly slooow!!! There are signs outside by the parking "1 hour parking". What if it takes them 40 minutes before they realize you're NOT waiting for the Metro North train! Which has its own waiting area. Didn't know if I was supposed to order at the counter, where there were a few people floating around by the cash register, and they would bring it to me, or a waitperson would eventually show up. Part of the problem is they have two outdoor seat areas, a bar area, a bistro area, and a main dining room, that has to be covered. They also sell a lot of small items to people getting off at the Metro North train station. The portions are smaller than expected. The steak sandwich comes with fries, but some pickles and coleslaw would be a nice addition; because there's not much meat in it. Even trying to settle the bill as a major operation. I definitely would not return.

3/18/2025: I sincerely hope to return back on here to give an updated review!…read moreLet's start with the easy positives: parking is NEVER an issue as you have an entire lot sharing that of Stop n Shop. Food is always served in a timely manner. It is served hot and flavorful. Now,onto the negatives: I know everyone has a not so great start of the workday/morning, but our server today named M*r** gave us the impression that she didn't want to be there. I cannot EVEN call it "businesslike or professional". She didn't offer any words back other than what was spoken to her. No "good morning" no smile, and never ONCE checked our table to even see a simple thing as a coffee refill. The busboy was the opposite accommodating one who gave the coffee and the take-out box that we needed. When we asked him, he gladly helped us. It didn't stop there! Now onto the male, who I've never seen before, cashier. Didn't say a word during the ring up. Matter of factly handed the receipt and the pen for my signature. Still saying nothing. Here I'm paying the establishment patronizing Pastels --- finally a delayed low tone "thank you" as I gave the receipt back. Ok, yes, you're doing your job. In a TIME where it is difficult to both find and retain a job, at least act like you want to be there. We felt almost regrettable for have chosen Pastels today. Future orders when we decide to have their food again will be via DoorDash etc to avoid same, for now Not a pleasant experience today.

***3 1/2 stars***…read more Table 9 is in a really convenient location...but also not. I've been here now I think three separate times over the years (not sure if one of the earlier visits was under different ownership or something, etc.), each time after a nearby hike to Anthony's Nose, the trailhead for which is literally two minutes up the road. And each time, I end up making a wrong turn and then having to make an illegal turn further up Rt 9 to get back, and that's WITH GPS. It's an incredibly annoying spot right off of a traffic circle and if you're coming from any direction other than south on 9, you're going to have some drama. I don't know if Table 9 can honestly do anything about that beyond maybe some extra signage or instructions on their website, but might be worth them raising the topic with the town - it's a disincentive for potential visitors. Anyway. The parking itself is spacious, and no issues there. I stopped by yesterday in the early afternoon after one of those aforementioned hikes to have lunch with my mother, who lives in CT a short drive away (and had the good fortune of taking 9 south). The sign on the door cited a "smart, casual" dress code so I was a LITTLE apprehensive there might be drama from my post-hike outfit, but no issues there; I also saw quite a few patrons leaving in baggy jeans so they might have been better off with a generic, 'no shoes, no shirt' type dress code here. My mother got inside before me and secured one of the U-shaped booths in the room to the right of the entrance in the back. Honestly? Not well designed - it was noticeably cramped, and I'm not a larger person. You couldn't move the table at all and I'm a little surprised they didn't measure out the dimensions a little more thoughtfully. I was pretty hungry off of my excursion and was also probably inspired by the recent nip in the air so I went right for the entree section and pre-gamed Thanksgiving via the Oven Roasted Turkey. Not bad. Optics-wise it didn't look that appealing to me - I tend to like thinner slices of turkey that are...rougher, I guess, and not so smooth since that tends to mean it's also slimy. Not the case here though, and I demolished most of it. The garlic mash, cranberry sauce and stuffing were also fine as well - nothing was mind-blowing, but it did the job. The service was okay. Our waiter was perfectly nice but his visits overall were infrequent. I wouldn't say that our wait times overall were egregious - though waiting for him to take the card for payment at the end was noticeably lengthy - but because he really only came by for the "milestone" moments, i.e., to deliver our food/drinks, it was tough to consistently get water filled up in the glasses and some of those basic intangibles. There were definitely other guests in the restaurant but I also wouldn't classify it was crowded either. Just needs to be tightened up a bit there. Not bad, and it's arguably one of the few decent dining options for someone fresh off the trails without having to navigate downtown Peekskill, which is important. But if its biggest selling point is the proximity to those trails and you're having trouble coming up with point #2? Eh. Maybe it's worth traveling a few more minutes down the road.

BeanRunner Café - A Peekskill Gem!…read more I've been to BeanRunner many times, and it continues to be one of those unique spots in Peekskill that has its own personality and vibe. This time I stepped away from my usual order and tried the Mediterranean Salad, and I'm glad I did! It comes topped with grilled chicken and is served with pita slices and hummus. Everything worked together perfectly--it was fresh, flavorful, filling, and just really good! My usual go-to, though, is The Hurdle--turkey, bacon, Gouda cheese, sesame ginger dressing, lettuce, and tomato on panini bread. I definitely customize mine : no tomato, extra bacon, no dressing, and I prefer it cold instead of hot. So good! I also had a mocha with an extra espresso shot and extra chocolate , while my daughter and my mom enjoyed breakfast. What really makes BeanRunner special is the atmosphere. You can sit inside or outside, and the whole place gives me a cool Brooklyn lounge/café feel. Inside, you have beautiful authentic brick walls, plants thoughtfully placed throughout the seating areas, and curated artwork displayed on the walls--some of which is even available for purchase. Smooth jazz and R&B playing in the background just adds to the vibe. They cater to and strongly support local artists and musicians which is very cool! There's also a back patio, a quieter separate seating room away from the main floor, and outdoor seating with umbrellas. The outdoor area gives me a little Fort Greene/Lafayette triangle vibe, which I really enjoy. And BeanRunner is more than just a café. They have live music on weekends, and from what I'm told, they have a GOOD time! They also host poetry slams and open mics, which adds even more character to the place. They serve desserts and smoothies too, so there's plenty beyond coffee and sandwiches. The location is tucked back on Esther Place in Peekskill, across from the large Assumption Church building, and that may honestly be BeanRunner's biggest disadvantage. I truly believe that if this place weren't so tucked away, they'd be packed every day. Great food, great coffee, beautiful atmosphere, music, art, plants, indoor and outdoor seating--BeanRunner has a little bit of everything. Definitely a Peekskill spot worth discovering! 5 stars from me!

If that's your thing, then 4+ stars! Will also give a big thumbs up to the decor -- loved what was on the walls and the floors looked like they'd recently been redone. Various dishes our group had included a breakfast sandwich with sausage; an omelette, which was probably the healthiest option of what folks got; a cheeseburger; someone else got a French dip kind of sandwich. French fries were fought over -- so also a thumbs up for them. Again, I was the outlier in our group and in other reviews so I do plan to return to give it another chance. Check out the menu and other reviews and maybe you'll give it four or more stars!
