From the first moment we walked in the door...the service was great! The waiter was personable, and when asked he volunteered his favorites (it was our first visit). We decided to split a mouth watering "Champion" burger that (believe it or not) was THE BEST burger that we have EVER tasted. Also had a slice of their "Salted Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie". The restaurant is in a residential area- so you may feel like you're in the wrong spot, but the sign can't be missed! Walking in, the place was very unassuming yet extremely inviting. We ordered the brussels to start- they tasted good, but no where near other amazing brussels I've had. These were softer, a steamed version, with lots of lemon. If you're into the crispy charred brussels like me these aren't for you. My Champions burger was fantastic. Other members of my party all enjoyed theirs as well, and the fries were thin and crispy. We were in the area running an errand and were looking for a restaurant with an outdoor patio with misters so Welcome Diner seemed like a welcome option. There's even an outdoor ordering area so you can stay outside for your entire visit if you'd like. The menu is available by QR code or they also have paper menus. There are plenty of tables available on their front patio with lots of shade from trees and overhead canopies. There are also misters dispersed throughout the patio which is key in the summer. We took a spot along one of the shadiest spots under a tree and it was scenic, retro, and a nice place to have our lunch. On the patio near the outdoor ordering area there's a table with water, water cups, napkins, cutlery, and straws. The water was ice cold, perfect for hot weather! I had the "no way Jose" burger with side salad, and shared some jackfruit fries. The burger came out in just a few minutes and looked delightful! It is a .3 lb patty of Niman Ranch beef (According to the website), jalapeno relish, arugula, gouda, muenster cheese, and chipotle ranch. The bun is from Noble Bread. While I appreciated each of the high quality elements of the burger, I felt the bun itself was too big for the burger, or that I needed more burger meat to match the size of the bun. When I took each bite I could mainly taste bun with just a bit of burger. There was a kick of spiciness from the jalapeno and chipotle ranch and I'm always a fan of gouda and muenster cheese. The side salad was plentiful and was cool and refreshing, a good lighter compliment to a heavier tasting burger. It was lightly dressed in a vinaigrette and had mixed greens. The jackfruit fries were an ample amount, and at first glance you wouldn't even know that the topping is jackfruit and not pulled pork! Overall I enjoyed the combo of red cabbage slaw, marinated jackfruit, crispy fries and BBQ sauce but I did feel the dish was a bit too cumin-heavy which tended to overpower the other flavors. Enjoyed dinner here very much. Cute little place with fried chicken specials on Fridays, which was why we came, to meet others in our party who wanted that. It looked amazing. Most of the food is fried & not very diet friendly, but I went with the veggie burger & salad & it was delicious. Loved all the flavor & didn't feel that I was missing out. They have many vegetarian options as well. The prickly pear lemonade was great & they have a nice little cocktail menu. Will have to come back again when I'm not counting calories. Had to knock off a star because we all wanted dessert & they had a great looking dessert menu, but all they had available the night we were there were cookies (which were nice, but would have been better warm). I had the Big Jim, which is basically a fried chicken-biscuit sandwich with bacon, melted cheddar and slathered with country gravy. The biscuit was a little too thick and dry for my taste. I expected the cheddar to be melted onto the chicken breast, but alas, it was melted onto one side of the biscuit. The bacon was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the fried chicken. I also had a side of Poutine, which was shoestring fries topped with melted cheddar and country gravy. I have Celiac disease which means I can get sick from gluten. I called ahead and understood that the kitchen does their best on this. I ordered and asked them to check a label for olive oil (sometimes its cross contaminated during processing). I overheard the very loud cook smiling and saying the chef in back laughed at the question when he went to go ask about it. So far, not awful. Then it gets bad. The cooks up front are clowning on me and my allergy pretty hard loud enough for me to hear, but not talking TO me. Talking ABOUT me. Super disrespectful. "Imagine just giving him straight up gluten. Just straight bread". "No, not on the cooktop, got to avoid cross contamination" with a super over the top eye roll and laughter. So as I sat there I didn't know if they were taking this seriously AT ALL. It was just an awkward, unwelcoming vibe. There was a couple more examples as they prepared the food but i'll leave it at that. The food: somewhat good but overpriced.
