Had a few services done here. Nothing special. Also, I tried to drop in midweek in the middle of the day. No one was at the front desk. When someone finally came out, she looked at me like I was some kind of freak for daring to think they'd have a drop in. Granted, I'd just taken the 7 am out of NYC, so I might have looked a little rough, but she couldn't believe I had the audacity to sit there without an appointment. I asked if they had any openings, and she looked at me like I was just crazy...really lady? Its 1 pm on a Wednesday, are you really THAT busy? Having moved from downtown to Capitol Hill a couple of years ago, I am thankful that there's a Wax On location in my 'hood, since it means I won't have to fight tourist traffic to get my mustache and unibrow taken care of. I'm doubly glad that my favorite esthetician, Stephanie, works at this location as well. I've seen other waxers at Wax On every so often, and they're great, but Stephanie is the bee's knees. Not only is she fast and efficient when it comes to the ol' zip n' strip (aka the Brazilian), she's friendly, professional, and she always makes me feel comfortable on the table. The space itself isn't really the best, especially given it's a waxing salon. the walls are paper thin and I absolutely hate the bright lights above, but I guess good waxing does need good lighting. Nevertheless, I had one of my better wax-related experiences here (shocking, I know). The aesthetician was super-friendly, quick and kept me entertained. The process was also surprisingly less painful than any other place I've been too. For that alone, I'd say it's worth my repeat business. read more

I am not somebody who gets a lot of things waxed, just my eyebrows usually, and not very frequently at that. My brows are naturally arched and only require clean up so I'm generally in and out pretty quickly. That said, Wax On is amazing. They always do a wonderful job and listen to any specifications I have, and always offer to do a little more trimming if I want it. The price is insanely reasonable - typically around 15 bucks - and my sensitive skin only flares up for an hour or two afterwards. I just popped in today for the first time in a year (I know) and Krista was super personable and made the whole experience go smoothly. I'd recommend them to anybody in a heartbeat. read more

Stephanie is AMAZING - I never thought a Brazilian could be done so well in so short a time! It usually took me 15-20 minutes to get my pits and vag done. Steph is great with adding a minor service whenever I need to also. She's always on time (probably because she's so damn quick)! I can't recommend Stephanie enough. Wax on spa is absolutely, no questions asked, the very best at what they do! I remember the first time I went here. I was astonished by how polite and friendly the service was. I did not know waxing could be so painless. I have been many times since, and each time I have had a different person, but they were all equally good. Also, they have a selection of alcohol in the waiting room to ease the pain. And some of the services are expensive, like the bikini, but they give returning customers a discount. Sloppy Brows I've gone here twice because they are so close to my apartment. For an appointment only, waxing exclusive, requires you to sign a legal waver before they will do a brow wax, this place they are really sloppy. Heck even by hole in the wall, cash only, walk ins welcome standards this place is sloppy. Both times I have had go home and send quite a lot of time retouching. The first time my experience was okay. My lady was super nice, but after two times asking her to clean it up (and her just not getting it) I finally just ended the appointment and went home and spent 30 minutes evening it out. She'd given me lopsided brows, but importantly to my next experience that this place, at least there where two of them. This last time I went (a few days ago) the lady seriously sent me packing with a unibrow; after spending most of my appointment trimming my eyebrows. I've never had some one do more then one or two snips at the most, I felt like this lady was going to do a blow out when she was done, or perhaps an updo. I'm sure trimming a brow into shape is easier then waxing, or plucking, at least it's faster. Anyway after the hair cut (err shaping) She finally did some minimal waxing, and plucked like two hairs. She put the mirror up, and asked me how I liked it. I told her I'd like a little more off, the arches where thin but the base was still really thick, a proportion I couldn't think looked good by any standard. This time she plucked four hairs. The mirror came out again. I decided that the arch wasn't bad, and I could touch it up when I got home; because she hadn't even touched my middle I thought my arch was the only thing she was asking about. I said "okay." Thinking she would then start on the middle. I found quickly found out my appointment was done, as she said okay then and started to pack everything away for the next appointment. Five minutes of eye brow trimming, minimal waxing, and no attention to detail AT ALL. There are certainly better $15 brow waxes out there. That don't even require you to sign a legal document stating you won't sue them before they touch you. read more

I'm at that point where the spirit of Andy Rooney is inhabiting my aging eyebrows. I've been to 3 different waxing spots now and am by far happiest with Wax On, and in particular, with Shelley, whom I've seen twice now. Actually, she's the only person who's tamed my brows at Wax On, so this review is as much for her as the business. The place is very clean, with a big pitcher of water with citrus slices in it at the reception desk. The waxing room had clean towels/sheets on the table, unlike one other place I'd been. Shelley is a hoot - fun, interesting, friendly. And man, she does a really great job. She got rid of all the bulk and wildness and errant hairs but maintained the length of the brow with a nice taper. She's fast with the ripping so the discomfort is minimal, in fact, barely noticeable. Five + stars for Shelley and Wax On. read more

I have been going to Wax-On for seven years (I've been to all three Washington locations, but I usually am at Belltown or Capitol Hill). My first Brazilian experience was when I was 19 and the owner, Ann, waxed me. I cried all the way home. But it was not her fault! The first time you go it is a little...shocking - not to mention painful. I didn't think I would be back but once the pain subsided and I had a smooth, soft bikini area I really enjoyed my wax. Low and behold, I was back five weeks later. I have been waxed by many estheticians over the years but Stephanie has been my main gal for the past few. I am now over six months into my second pregnancy and I'm still getting waxed regularly. I actually love that they work quickly at Wax-On...a lot of times my wax is over before it even started! I've had 2 appointments, both were 10 minutes late. They make you fill out a form each time -- which seems odd when you are a returning customer. Also, the place desperately needs to be painted. It would nice if the rooms were a bit more private -- you can hear the other clients because the walls don't go all the way up to the ceiling. And the rooms seem dirty. If you ever find yourself in Capitol Hill, make sure an esthetician named MELISSA is working the show because she made sure I was "completely bald" by checking all the nooks and crannies too. The best part is, she told me that if I even find small patches of hair that she might have missed- I could come back free of service. This is one of the very few places that charge a considerable price to get a front and back Brazilian, most places charge another $20-$30 to get the "back hair" waxed off. read more

Heather is great. She always makes me brows look 10x better. I'm not bothered by the bright lights (I'd rather she be able to see what she's doing) and the room feels private enough to me. If you ever want to hear pleasant experiance in the same sentence as Brazilian wax, I highly recommend Wax On. I just went there for the first time today and have never left a brazilian wax more happy. I had Connie and she was fast yet thorough. Best of all- i barely winced, which says a lot coming from me. They make sure youre as comfortable as possible and they succeed. It was 55 for a maintenance which they consider it 5 weeks since your last and for the results it was worth it. They always have a nice selection of oinments and such to help with after wax care. I'll definitely be going back. :) read more

I've been to 3 of these spas (I was given a gift certificate and didn't want it to go to waste) and every experience was absolutely horrible. The Belltown location was the worst. I called for an appointment and got an unprofessional voicemail. After 2 hours I finally get a call back to schedule me in. I show up and there is no receptionist to check me in, get me water, etc.(thus explaining the lack of live body on the phone and 2 hour wait time only to schedule an appointment). So I sat in the empty lobby for almost 20 minutes and this girl walks in, sees me waiting, and ROLLS HER EYES and says "Oh that's right... you're here for a 3 o'clock?" I look at my watch that reads 3:19pm and said "yes." She then made me wait even longer excusing her self to "finish something up" and I waited another ten minutes. So I lay down, 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, and am ready for my brazilian. NEVER, I mean EVER go to this location in your life. I left bleeding, and there was so much skin missing from patches of my vagina I had to wear neosporin smothered gauze for 6 days! I've had plenty of waxing done in my life, and have never seen such horrible customer service, or results. Especially for the ridiculous prices they offer. NEVER GO! read more
