Complete and utter lack of customer service and good faith business practices. I've been a repeat customer of this location and will no longer be one. I booked a brow wax online for a 6pm appointment. When we were hit with the snow and ice, I was not able to physically leave my driveway. I called the morning of and let them know and planned a reschedule the following day hoping for better conditions. I got emails asking me for how my appointment went (which I found odd) but ignored it. The next day, I still was not able to leave my house, so I called the location the morning of and let them know I would be better off canceling and then rescheduling once the holidays were done and the weather was more stable. To my surprise, a pending $25 was applied to my card. When I called the location to ask why, the woman on the phone told me there was a no-show fee because I did not cancel 12 hours in advance and this was a generous policy bc most places are 24 hours. When I asked her if this policy applied to emergencies, she referred me to her manager, Anne. She gave me Anne's number which I called. It went to VM, so I asked Anne to call me back so I could better understand the policy and if there was some work around to the situation. I never received a call back and the charge went through on my card. Trust me, I understand the reasons for no-show fees and policy but the complete lack of understanding given the winter storm despite my longstanding timely appointments with them is disappointing. I will not be returning again and will find services elsewhere. read more

I requested to see Isabella again because she did such a wonderful job on the first Brazilian wax I've ever gotten- I felt minimal pain and it was a very clean, effective job! no notes. I'm only giving 2 stars because the girl who did my Brazilian was very friendly and professional. However, after getting my wax, there was so much hair left behind that I spent over 30 min tweezing everything she missed. I thought I would try this place out since it is close to where I live, but I regret it 100%. I will be sticking with my girl in Queen Anne at Suika. If you want someone who will pay attention to detail and then tweeze anything she misses afterwards, I highly recommend going there, and NOT HERE. read more

Very much an OK/unsatisfactory experience. I had an extended bikini, which was just fine. Not too painful and the little gal was nice enough. However, this was a pre-wedding appt and I was looking forward to wine in the lobby prior to my waxing. I was somewhat coldly greeted and NEVER offered even a glass of water. After my wax I was offered some nice Shea butter and a hot wash cloth to remove remaining wax. This was cool, but there was no way to wash my hands after cleaning myself up, or any hamper to put the dirty wash cloth. That kind of grossed me out a little. I ended up wodding it up inside a towel and left it on the bed. Ok, then I had a facial. My main reason for getting this was exfoliation and relaxation. As soon as the tech touched my face, I knew this was going to be less than wonderful. She was fine, but seemed like this was new to her and she was not confident in her skills. At one point, she left the room and said she was going to get a product for exfoliating my face. She literally put what I believe was an extremely course body salt on my dry face?? Ya, that didn't go well. She exfoliated me for about 15 seconds while the clumpy product fell into my hair and down my neck! It was very weird and that's when I lost hope. Her massage was alright and I decided to just lay there and make the best of it. The room was also very bright and white...not calming at all. I wanted to love this place, but very meh about it. Don't know what all the negative reviews are about. I've been going to 3 Wax On spas in my 3 years in Seattle and it's always a great experience: quick, relatively painless, and cheaper than most cities for the quality. With their new online booking system, it's easy to lock in a last minute slot. Depending on the day, I'll frequent Cap Hill, Belltown, or Fremont. Was serviced by Regina on her first day working in Seattle (congrats, Miss Regina!) and had a fabulous experience. I showed up about 5 minutes late, unshowered and very self-conscious about the state of my union. Regina was engaging, encouraging, and I was out faster than you can say "Extended Bikini." She was happy to clean up some spots that were missed. The skin care here is top-notch as well. I recommend their little Shea What pots for your lips and cuticles in dry weather. All kinds of scents too! I have black currant in my bathroom and always stock up for traveling gifts. Will be back for a microderm facial next week. read more

I had a 10am appointment, I arrived and the shop was closed. I waited an hour and half for someone to arrive to work and they never did. I called and rang the doorbell multiple times. I even called the other locations, which also did not answer the phone. I waited a long time giving them the benefit of the doubt they were just running late, but by 1130 I gave up and went elsewhere. I never received an email or message apologizing or an explanation. If you want reliable service, go else where. read more

Since my body is not a chunk of heavy metal I prefer a gentler touch rather than an assembly line worker accustomed to monotony handling my bits. All they do, all day long, is wax. Your skin is no different from the last person's. Wax on uses words that sound good rather than representive of their true meaning. There is nothing spa like about Wax On. I've seen no evidence of any other services being offered other than waxing. This could be a good thing, one probably wouldn't want their engine overhaul done at the fast food of auto maintenance or a facial from someone who has hands like sandpaper. Expect to be in and out of Wax On. Wax on, Wax Off Karate Kid. When thinking of after care think of the last time you took your car to Jiffy Lube and it was "vacuumed" because one will receive the same cursory experience. If any member of staff from the Portland store/area is working the day an appointment is made do not let them come anywhere near you. Your skin will never forgive you. My recommendation is to respect the body you have and take it somewhere that someone will respect it too. Women and men alike will benefit from a spa that adopts a pampering attitude. Even if it is just for a few minutes to do something as perfunctory as a wax, make it nice. Spa Noir in Belltown and High Maintenance in Capitol Hill grasp the concept. read more

In my ongoing adventures as a "model", my most recent experience brought me to this location for the first time, and for an extended bikini. I'll caveat this with the disclaimer that I have not paid for any service at any wax on spa. They occasionally need folks to volunteer so new employees (who are all experienced in the field, just new to wax on) can be observed, learn the products carried here and so on. Given that, of course I freakin' love them, but I also want to give them (and Yelp) honest feedback--as though i were a paying customer. The specialist I had this round was super nice, albeit kind of nervous. I really think that was most predicated by the vibe of her supervisor/instructor. She really puts off a stern "i run my ship high and tight' vibe that is probably a little intimidating when you are new to a job. I also felt some of the questions she kept asking Anya were ..well..they were tough "interview" style questions and perhaps a tad inappropriate timing as I'm witnessing this while naked from the waist down in varying degrees of precarious positions. That said, the service went smoothly and I am now smooth, too. Wax on, at any of their locations, has their sh*t down and will win your praise and loyalty. read more

I pledge to never go to a place solely because they have appointments still available everyday for my procrastinating. WE ALL KNOW what that means! I pledge to never go to a place where someone says: "oops! I made a bald spot, should I just leave it or do you want me to even it out?" Or "does that Hurt? Yea people always tell me that I Hurt them more than most waxers" I pledge to never go to a place where I'm 9 minutes late because of completely unexpected traffic only to have them tell me there's only 6 minutes left in my appointment and they can't take me. 15 minutes is all you get folks! Most places can't make a milkshake that fast and I'm trusting you with me *****?! She didn't offer to make a new appointment or try to squeeze me in or anything- I would have made one right then. Oh my aching vagina. But it hurts so good. I have been to hell and back in search of the perfect Brazilian: perfectly executed, perfectly priced and perfectly maintained. After auditioning several salons around the city, I've settled Wax On (I go to the Capital Hill location). Here is a fact that a lot of hair-free enthusiasts have to come to terms with: this hurts. You should always assume that removal of ANYTHING you are born with is not going to be pleasant. Slathering your pink parts in warm wax is not going to be delightful unless you're a masochist. And waxing at Wax On is the mother of all hurt, BUT the clean on your bean lasts SO MUCH longer than any other that I've had (Gene Juarez, Bocz, Dewi) and you CAN'T beat the prices. While their website lists the Brazilian at $80, I've only paid that much when having a combination of waxing services done. I vehemently recommend ginger haired Shelly on the weekends, if you can get her. She's a good team player ("hold here, dear"), a perfectionist (down to the tweezers, folks) and she doesn't forget to put on her gloves (which is the only downside to some of their waxers). read more

Going to Wax On was a life-changing experience. I have a tendency to do crazy things with tweezers and my eyebrows. I guess I just get carried away ... and before I know it I have two eyebrows that are each semi-nicely shaped, but look completely different from each other. Thing 1 and Thing 2. Or both eyebrows are two thin, tiny shapeless lines. I came to Wax On in this sort of situation and the esthetician was very good and professional. She gave me tips on how to not get myself in that predicament in the future. Just some basic rules that I now follow religiously - don't cut your own eyebrows, don't tweeze past a certain point, etc. Why only 4 stars? The ambiance isn't very inviting, calming, or private. I don't know how people get *other* stuff waxed there. Also, last time I was there I had a bad wax job (different person) and she made no effort to tweeze after the waxing and I wasn't happy with the shape. Overall, I've been to Wax On a couple of times and I think it is a good place for a cheap brow wax. read more

I was watching Bridezillas last night (oh the shame) and they accompanied this super hilarious bride from Wisconsin on her first bikini wax ever. After all of the laugh-tastic footage involving yanking and yelping and oh-my-jayzus-get-away-from-me's, she says into the camera: "on a pain scale from 1 to 10, that's about a......FIFTY TWO." So true! This is the fact behind waxing. It is always going to hurt. The most you can hope for is that you can get in and out before your body can process what's going on. That's what Wax On excels at, getting you in, done and out before you can draw the breath to say "get away from me with that strip of fabric, you sadistic glitter-covered hosebeast!". Getting the same person twice is impossible, I just always take whoever is free but they can usually get you in pretty quickly. I don't like that no one ever answers the phone but they do usually get back to you quickly. That said, I do love the cheerfully ruthless efficiency with which they separate Seattle from its preponderance of hair. Way to fight the good fight Wax-On, I like your style. read more

I remember my first Brazilian wax, many many years ago; the first time a strange woman asked me to pull my knees up to my chest and hold on, and I remember thinking: "Hm, that's an awfully odd req - OH MY GOD WHAT DID YOU *DO*?!?". That feeling passes, I assure you :). Keeping that first experience in mind I like to choose my waxers wisely and I believe I found a gem of a salon in Wax On Spa. I have been going to Melissa at Wax On (Capitol Hill) exclusively since October 2006. I continue to return because of the excellent, thorough, professional job she does every time I have an appointment. Lest I make it sound antiseptic and impersonal I must also add that Melissa and the rest of the staff are always friendly and welcoming, the waiting room is small, cute and comfortable and they offer great skincare products, nail polishes, lipsticks and cute panty sets for you to check out while you're waiting. As far as the actual waxing goes - I consider it to be a more shocking than painful experience :) - but I handle pain pretty well. If it's your first time waxing, it will probably hurt! It gets better with time, though. One thing I really like about Wax On is how conscious they are of their customers' pain and they take measures to make the dripping and ripping of hot wax on your personal bits the least painful and most pleasant experience that it can be. :) While they specialize in the - male and female - Brazilian, they also offer a host of other waxing services as well as skincare options. I recently started including my eyebrows in my monthly depilatory experience and I have received so many compliments! Who knew eyebrows could make such a difference? (Thanks, Melissa!) If you've got a campy adult party to go to, Wax On also offers waxing by your design. Want a lightning bolt to electrify your next naked experience? I used to live in Capitol Hill and went to Wax On a few times because it was so close. Another reviewer on yelp has compared Wax On to Jiffy Lube, and I think the description is apt. It's quick. You're in and out. Nothing special. And that never bothered me until the last time I went in. Which was for an underarm wax. It's something I've had done many times before at various places. It's not exactly enjoyable, but the results are fantastic. Usually. This time, not so much. I'm not sure how she managed to do it, but my skin was ripped off. Yes, she took off actual skin. It was horrible. And it only got worse in the following days. I couldn't put my arms down. I couldn't wear shirts with sleeves. My exposed second layer skin was red and raw. A gentle breeze caused my eyes to water from the pain. I got in touch with the owner of Wax On. She was polite and business-like over the phone, which was nice. She offered me a gift certificate for another service. No thanks. Instead, I asked her to reimburse me for the service plus the cost of medical supplies I had purchased to take care of myself. She sent me a check a couple weeks later. With no note or apology enclosed. It took a while, but my armpits healed. I haven't been back. And I will never wax again. Zero stars for this particular visit. 2 stars for the other times I've gone. Do yourself a favor and stop waxing. Instead, go to Sugar Sugar in Ballard. It's hair removal without the wax. You know you're in good, capable hands when you mention that it's been a while since your last Brazilian and the person behind the counter offers you a shot of Whiskey...and they're serious! I passed on the free whiskey, which might have seemed foolish at first, but turned out just fine in the end. My waxer was skilled, fast, and did a great job! I will be going here again! My only negative was the cost ($70 for the first time around, $55 for maintenance), which, when you consider tax and tip, came to nearly $100 for the starter. But really, when you think about it, you don't want to go "bargain basement" on genital waxing. You just don't. read more

I stopped going to wax on a couple of years ago. Just want to confess that up front. So I can't comment on any of the current waxers, just the overall business method. Their brazilians are way to fast and sort of brutal. I don't know why they won't use a hard wax for those tough spots, but because they don't I had to quit going. I was waxed twice by Anna, the owner. It was like she was running late. There's a difference between fast and being frantic to get you out so someone else can take your place. I prefer fast. And both times I had a scabby vag. after. Not really what you're paying $70 bucks for. It sort of takes away from the overall niceness of being hair free. I also didn't enjoy having to dewax myself after the waxing. I don't think you should ever toss someone a tub of lotion and a towel and tell them they can clean themselves up. I went this past weekend, SUPER stoked after reading all these great reviews on Yelp, and not to mention my brows were in desperate need of a wax job. My boyfriend and I walked in and their door does that chime thing to alert someone in the place that there is a guest. You would assume that we would be greeted by a friendly receptionist or SOMEBODY, but NO. My boyfriend tried to walk in and out a few times to make it seem like people were coming in but NO ONE ever came out to greet us or say ANYTHING. we ended up waiting around for 25 minutes and FINALLY this jackass lady comes out and says hello non-chalantly as if she didn't know we were waiting for so long. I ask her if I could get my eyebrows done, she waits like 1 minute to answer and says in a bitchy tone, "Uh, no. Sorry" What an asshole! WTF?! She could have EASILY greeted me once I came in or at least see who was at the door and tell m that she was all booked. But the fact that I had to wait that long and for her to tell me in such a dick way that there weren't any availabilities, REALLY PISSED ME OFF. I was so heated when my boyfriend and I walked out. I went here for my first Brazilian wax. I tried to make an appointment online using their reservation request form, which said someone would get back to me shortly to confirm. After hearing nothing for 3 days, I called and was informed that there was no availability for several weeks. Fine - I made an appointment. I arrived on time for my appointment to find that there was nobody in the salon and the door was locked. After I waited outside for 20 minutes, a frazzled esthetician appeared with her cup of espresso and ushered me into a blindingly bright room where Modest Mouse was playing on the stereo at earsplitting decibel levels. She proceeded to complain about her day, her boss, and her life, while intermittently crying - her tears falling on my progressively more denuded groin. Because it was my first wax, I expected there to be pain and maybe a few pinpricks of blood. I was unprepared for the raw, chicken skin appearance of my nether regions and the slaps she gave my inner thighs after she ripped off the muslin to "distract" me from the pain. She was having an off day and afterward apologized for her behavior, but I've never gone back. Go to Salon Dewi instead. Travis Powell is a sweetie pie, and he gives great Brazilians. read more

I've come here twice, and decided it's not worth coming again. I've come for a bikini wax both times and was not impressed. First of all, the table they have you lie down on is wobbly and unstable, which doesn't inspire the greatest experience. The service I had was also pretty low quality, leaving tons of hairs behind. Lastly, the customer service is lacking. I've had super rude service over the phone, having to call multiple times after leaving messages and having the person on the phone say "Oh, we don't check the voicemail." Also, I felt like I was judged for my choice of service, and the woman waxing me made me feel really uncomfortable, as if she was angry that I was there disturbing her afternoon. Usually, for example, people try to make comfortable small talk, and each time the person I had responded with silence or snarky comments whenever I said something - dude, getting a bikini wax is not a comfortable situation and it is only made worse by someone making you feel bad or extra awkward being there. read more

Went back again to use up the rest of my Groupon. Same as last time: 1. Still with the glaringly bright lights, realized this time that they're floodlights. It helps that my eyes are closed during brow wax. 2. Still with the paper thin walls. This time listened to someone talk about various hip hotels in Palms Springs. Realized that not only are the walls paper thin, they may possibly amplify sounds since this time it sounded like the person was talking right next to my face. 3. Great service from my ethestician. A very helpful Yelper, Greg, reminded me that salicylic acid and its relative, aspirin, are not recommended for use by adolescent and teens. So if you have any concerns about side effects of topical use with aspirin as anti-ingrown/pore cleanser, please talk to your doctor first. read more

Depending on where you've had brazilians done before, you're either going to like this place or hate it. The salon I was going to in another city was owned and run by a Brazilian woman who really understood the brazilian experience. She used hard wax and took her time, prompting yoga breathing, which was a great help. The hard wax means she doesn't have to use strips and so the whole experience is less one of savage ripping. Wax On was the polar opposite. It cost the same as my old salon ($70), but was quick and painful. She used hot wax and strips, with no warning when she was going to pull them off, so I couldn't use breathing techniques. It was the quickest brazilian I've ever had, but I wouldn't say that's a good thing. I ended up with some unsightly skin conditions (peeling / scabbing -- gross) for a few days afterwards, despite using neosporin -- I've never had that happen before, as my skin has always responded well to waxing. I can't say I'd recommend this -- I long for a real Brazilian to do this in Seattle! read more

Really wanted to like this place, but I went three times and had three negative experiences. The first time, the esthetician styled my brows different from what I requested. On my second visit, I was overcharged. It took a return trip and what felt like a lot of explaining on my part to have the charge reversed. On my third visit, an esthetician, who I just met for the first time, started the bikini wax by asking me very personal questions about if I want and plan to have children. Fantastic experience. I got my first Brazilian along with full leg and underarms to prep for a trip to Guatemala. I got there a little early but we got started quickly. Me technician/esthetician/insert other official title here/ was courteous and friendly, fielding my first timer questions easily. We started with underarms (easy) then did front of legs, brazilian (oof), back of legs. It was much easier and less painful than I expected. Obviously, some areas made me cringe, but what can you really expect when your hairs are being ripped from the follicle? Plus, doing the cannonball move wasnt as awkward as I expected. I don't have a very strong basis of comparison, because I've only ever been to one other salon to get my "friend" waxed, but I've been very happy with Wax On for my Brazilians. First time is $65 and maintenance (every 5 weeks) is $55. Heather and Shelly are great, but my schedule is very erratic, so I've seen a lot of different estheticians here. They are all good. Professional, knowledgeable, and make you feel comfortable in a very vulnerable situation. Side note: hair removal hurts. Don't blame it on the estheticians. On the bright side, they have a mini bar in the waiting room to help you relax. I have had my eyebrows done here once. I wasn't too excited about it. I think I'll stick with my friend Tina for those (see Power Spa). She doesn't do Brazilians. read more
