Yes yes yes! I can't believe I found this place randomly. Ive been here twice and so far so good. My first esthi Rachel was great! I had an extended Bikini & Leg Wax from her and I had no complaints. I have been going to European Wax Centers for years and recently moved to Seattle from Cali and they don't have any here at all. Soooo I had to research a wax place that uses hard wax and found this place. For me, it's not easy going to a new waxing place using a new person. Especially to get a Brazilian wax...having my goods so exposed! The girl I had was named Moriah (not sure if I spelled her name right) anyway, she was absolutely amazing!! She was so nice and made me feel super comfortable. I can honestly say that was the least painful Brazilian wax I have ever gotten and I have been getting waxed for over 6 years now every 4 weeks. I am super happy I found this place and definitely will continue coming here. Highly recommended. Updating this because Moriah no longer works there but my new girl is Genevive. Ok, I'll admit it, I laughed when I read on their website that their wax is almost pain free. But seriously... IT IS! They use some special type of green wax that combined with oil, doesn't stick to your skin. Meaning, no unnecessary pulling and tugging at your skin! It pretty much feels like clay, except it removes the hair just as well as any other wax. I'm not sure why other spas don't use this, but it's seriously the best. The spa itself is very comfortable and welcoming. The room has a door and a curtain to ensure privacy, spa music is playing and the table has a bed pillow! On the advice of Rebecca S. I came to High Maintenance for my waxing needs. There's no way to sugar coat this but aging just does weird things to you and my furry, peach-fuzz on my face was just starting to get SHUT-THE-FRONT-DOOR-BANANAS! (sung in the tune of Rachel Zoe) I'm glad I listened to Rebecca and did not go get my face sugared. I have incredibly sensitive skin and was kind of expecting to spend the next few days with raw skin, but that is not what happened. I met with Nicole who explained that the wax they use is a "hard wax" and perfect for sensitive skin as well as for fine, baby, peach fuzz hairs like mine. She was very gentle and efficient. Did it hurt? Not really, but I'll admit I find pleasure in the pain of beauty. Nicole also touched up my makeup afterward, not letting me leave with half a face on and I looked just as good as I did when I walked in. All that in less than 20 minutes. I'm a believer! read more

I get my wax job done by MIreille every two months. I followed her here. My first visit here was $10 off :-) You have to give kudos to High Maintenance. Parking (you park next door with the pass they provide), friendly staff (lemon water), and welcoming decor (comfy couch and tons of magazines). I definitely felt spoiled there. If you get wax, don't expect pain free. Please pull a piece of hair from your own head or even the private and tell me it doesn't hurt! Yes, it will hurt. But, they are doing the best to distract you when they operate a wax job on you. And, they use good products to prevent in-grown hair. I am in love with this place! read more

I had a go with another tech one time and let's just say, there was a lot of uglies bumping and not in a good way. Also - if you're into makeup and need something just a little heavier than powder for your face. Try the Jane Iredale Amazing Base. It has SPF 20, gives just the right coverage, and is that mineral stuff everyone is raving about. It's lighter than MAC Studiofix, but heavier than just blotting powder. read more

GO FOR: RENEW FACIAL I just had my first Renew facial with Paige (thanks Paige!) and it was wonderful! The facial was customized for my very dry skin with a fruit enzyme peel, lifting masque and topical products that contain hyaluronic acid. I'm very happy with the results! I recently had my first facial here with Anna, and my skin was relatively happy as a result, excepting the fact that they used a (gasp!) mineral oil-based cleanser (brand name Yon Ka Creme Cleanser) with a nasty petroleum scent that stuck to my skin for hours after the facial, giving me headaches. I did not smell the cleanser during the facial, only afterward -- the lingering, rubber-like odor kept wafting into my nose. I had to go home and wash it off. On a positive note: the rest of the products they used (DerMed brand) were wonderful, the facial itself was relaxing and soothing, and my skin has been bright and clear all week. But when I called to let them know my thoughts about their cleanser, the owner would not give me a refund (I knew this was unlikely) or a discount on my next service, which would have been a really classy move, and would have helped to ensure that I returned despite my expensive, half-bad experience. I would expect a place that tries to maintain such a high-end reputation to know better than to use mineral oil/petroleum based products at all, and am truly surprised they had not yet heard complaints about this. (Maybe we Seattle ladies don't know not to smear gasoline byproduct on our skin as moisturizer -- eeugh Vaseline). If you get a facial here, you won't be disappointed, but be sure to ask them for a different cleanser or write on your intake form that you do not want mineral oil based products used on you. Because the owner refused to do anything to make up for my bad experience (come on, customer service!) I will not get another facial here. However, I will go back to Anna for Brazilians, as she does great work. read more

The only problem is I may have to fly to Seattle every time I want a wax... I was ... Overdue. Let's say that. I hadn't had time to see my Russian lady and should have gone two weeks prior. I was in Seattle on business and got a recommendation from my amazing dominatrix friend, whose advice I naturally trust beyond measure on these matters. First things - it's a spa-like salon. A relaxing, "have some tea while you wait" spa-like salon. A "go ahead and take off your clothes while I wait in the other room while we allow you to labor under the delusion that you're not about to go all doggie-style in front of me in a moment". Like you're going in to get a massage. I won't lie - it's not painless. But. Compared to the Brazilian torture to which I'd been subjecting myself, it was ... a breeze. The least painful parts of my muslin-wax experiences were the most painful parts of my hard-wax experience, administered by Nicole. She made me feel as at-ease as one can feel in that position... and that other position...unless you're in the line of work that encourages you to feel comfortable in those positions in front of people you've just met. I don't judge - I'm sure being a yoga instructor is a lovely job. I will go back any time I'm in Seattle... and now I have to break up with my Russian. :( read more

I've been hesitant to review the places that keep me looking fabulous (what if they get too busy and can't fit me in anymore?!), but Nicole and High Maintenance deserve my praises. The worst thing about moving to a new area is finding new health and beauty service providers. Good waxing in particular proved difficult to find in Seattle. I tried two other salon spas before finding High Maintenance, and neither of the others did a good job. From half-hearted brazilians, to being told that my hair was light so it didn't matter if they removed it all, I'd almost given up hope of finding great service here in the city. Finally about a year ago I found High Maintenance Skin Care. Nicole has kept me looking fantastic from head to toe with brow and lash tinting, brow waxing, arm waxing, full leg waxing and brazilian. She's an artist with my brows; I've received several compliments on my brows from everyone from my dermatologist to my hair colorist and stylist. When was the last time someone complimented you on your eyebrows? Nicole's skill and technique make waxing as painless as possible. I call her the Hair Warrior because she makes sure ALL the hair is gone, including the full brazilian front and back. There's never any upsell pressure, and her table-side manner is excellent. I came here after reading about their wax that was supposed to be less painful than strip wax and suffering from extreme pain from another waxing salon. OK, I honestly cannot imagine enjoying the job of giving someone a Brazilian, but I'm sorry, that's your job. I'm sorry if you're not waxing my eyebrows and giving me a facial, but as an esthetician, you should know that you're gonna have to give a Brazilian, so could you wipe the unpleasant look of your face? I did shower before coming for my appointment, so I know it's not my hygiene that's bothering you. Besides, I've gone to other places where the estheticians were very friendly and personable. This is one for the ladies (mainly!) After discovering Lycon wax in London, I searched Seattle high and low for it and found this cute little place in Capitol Hill. The exterior is very sweet; the beaded chandeliers, animal print and antique furniture gives it a slight Parisien boudoir feel and the therapists were great! As excpected, the wax was as painless as they come and over very quickly. The only criticism I would have is that manicures and pedicures are done next to the front desk and I personally prefer a little more privacy but it's really not a big deal. Definitely worth a try, especially for the Lycon! read more

I have been here so many times, and always love the results. I've gotten a leg wax here once, but have gotten countless Brazilian waxes. They (I have had the pleasure of seeing multiple aestheticians) have great bedside manner, which is important when dealing with potentially awkward yoga poses during a Brazilian. The hard wax that they use is hands down the best way to be waxed. I swear it hurts less, and they do a consistently perfect job. The one time that there was a teeny line of (blonde, microscopic, was it even real?) hair left where I did not want it, the aesthetician was happy to come back into the room to remove it for me, even after she had finished and cleaned up a bit. I was just being picky, but they're always very accommodating. I used to live just a block or two away, and came here the first time out of convenience. After 2 years of getting waxes there I moved to Portland, but High Maintenance is still my waxing location of choice... I'm in Seattle often enough as it is, and it is definitely worth "saving up" for my trips to Seattle to get waxed. read more

UPDATE: Still coming here, still love it! I love the facials (everyone has time for a 30 minute refresher Glow on the Go!!) and the hard wax (the purple stuff) is great. Much less painful than the strip wax. I've had my makeup (complete with false lashes) done twice and loved it both times. Kristie takes the time to understand how you want to look and has the tools and the skills to get you looking that way. 5 stars for the waxing ONLY. I was recommended by a friend to get a Brazilian wax done here and my experience was great. They don't use your typical wax where you use a piece of fabric to pull the wax off, the wax actually dries for half a minute and they directly remove the wax. This leaves next to no wax residual, which is great because you don't want any left over wax down there or get all oil up down just to get it off. I can't say this is 'painless' but certainly isn't that bad. I've only seen two estheticians here, the owner Naomi and Mericke, who I normally see. Both are great! I was worried that they would be awkward because I am getting a Brazilian, but that really isn't the case. The receptionist is very nice, offers tea and hangs your coat up when you first enter. Naomi even offered me and a bunch of my girlfriends a bottle of champagne once when we were waiting for our appointments. It is a very small and well kept spa/store front, if I have to describe it, I would say it's kind of boutique-ish. They also offer parking, which is hard to come by in Capital Hill. I know they offer other services, but I probably would not go there for any of them besides waxing to be honest. If I wanted a manicure/pedicure I would prefer to go to an actual nail salon, as they would have more experience and more nail polishes to choose from. From the looks of what was displayed, I wasn't all to impress by their make up products, so I probably would never have my make up done there either. Never tried their facials or microdermabrasions so I can't speak to that. read more

I just had my first experience here today. It was my first major wax and I was nervous to say the least. Overall it was very professional, used perfect clean techniques, and it wasn't really that painful! I will go back here again, no doubt! Mericke was my esthetician and she had a very mellow, professional and straightforward vibe, and was very personable. She felt like an old friend. Also the lobby was very nice, the parking around there is free (and I found a spot in Capitol Hill right across the street!), and they didn't over-sell their skin care products, which are all very nicely displayed in the waiting area.
