Often you can find a place where you love the tech but the ambiance is so so, or maybe you love the setting but your skin doesn't really seem much different then when you walked in...well not with Tina! I have been looking for a place to get regular facials for a while, and originally chosen Tina because of her very reasonable price ($90 for over an hour!) and proximity. I just had my appointment with her and am so impressed - I have pretty decent skin with occasional small hormonal or stress breakouts but really want to improve the texture and brightness of my skin. I have had facials before and have never seen such an improvement after just one session! Tina explained every product she used and they seemed to be very natural (especially based on the amazing, natural plant/fruit smell). The one horrible, painful pimple I had when I went in is no longer there when I left, and there's just a small pink spot there. Luminous, overwhelmingly relaxing, out of body transporting, beyond blissful, and simply fantastic are all appropriate ways to describe what Tina's soothing hands deliver to a tired, sunburnt, free radical-colonized face. I am a bit of a spa junkie and due to large amounts of travel, both work related and escape related, I have had more than my fair share of facials. I have been to the highest rated spas, resorts, and retreats, The Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa in Saks Fifth Ave. in NYC, Vida Spa at the Fairmont in Whistler, BC, Red Mountain Resort in Ivin's, UT, as well as tucked away jewels in places like Langley, BC, Long Island, NY, and Murphy's, CA. I have been going here twice a month since Luminous opened and I followed Tina from her previous place of business when she decided she wanted her own space. I refuse to get a facial anywhere else, even if I am on vacation, there is no point. I know that I can go to Luminous and get the best facial money can buy, hands down. You know how some people just have it? It's that thing that makes you say "holy crap that was amazing!" upon your exit from a facial or massage. It's that thing that makes you feel like it WAS money well spent and you CAN see and feel the results. Tina has it. If you don't know that a good facial can be better than a massage now is your chance to find out. I also get my waxing done here but lets face it, unless your into some kinky stuff, having your hair ripped out at the follicle is never fun, but she is quick with soothing oil and words. Still, it's nice to have the one-stop shopping. Tina (smartly!) insists the facial be last so I don't leave grumpy. Her clinical lines are excellent, Jan Marini and Somme Institute, and she offers an organic line, Eminence, which is very nice for you natural folks out there. I myself am a Jan Marini girl. Tina is wonderful for both waxing and facials! I started going to her regularly after realizing my brows were getting way too thin and needed help. A lot of times estheticians will wax/ pluck too much off even when you tell them you are trying to grow them in, but Tina always listens and knows what your brows SHOULD look like. Seventeen Magazine once told me that if I didn't touch my face, I wouldn't break out. So for the past however many years, I haven't. Nor has any past boyfriend or my husband. I was a little phobic. She is incredible - very experienced, provides gentle, yet very effective treatments using high quality products. She is also kind and responsive to my needs or concerns. You walk up a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor, which is bright and cheerful even on cloudy days b/c it has a huge skylight. Then, you walk into Tina's studio, and it's cozy, quiet, and private. You walk in and out and mostly feel very transactional. This is NOT the experience at Luminous or with Tina, the owner and sole esthetician at Luminous. She takes a lot of care to find out about you and make each individual treatment an experience that is custom created and exactly what you need. Her goal of creating a safe, theraputic, and blissful atmosphere is easily achieved.
