Talk about hidden hole in the wall gem. So apparently Walter has worked at a lot of places and decided that he wanted his own. So what you have a restaurant cooking up a variety of food. The portions don't disappoint, the price is right and you are going to get a good meal. Food is delicious and the service is great. Could be a 5 star if the cost matched the menu. Expect to pay more, and in my experience, the cost is based on what they feel is deserved. Because each time it was different for the same item(s). First time, we ordered take out vs delivery to avoid the $8 delivery fee and we were right next door. Total cost with delivery $50 for two meals, this included the delivery fee. We opted to pick up and take advantage of the short walk across the parking lot. Same order, but only $2 less than original costs. Prices were increased, when I asked about it, she said those were prices for take out. Different from their menus provided at the hotel. The second time around, we walked over and dined in.... Like I said, food is delicious... my fave is The Walter's Special. I ordered the small Walter's Special-beef ($13.99) with fried rice (1.99) as listed on the menu. After receiving my order, it seemed bigger. So I asked if the plate was a small order, and waitress confirmed. Upon receiving the check, the cost for the order was 20+ for the small (15.99) with the rice and an additional 2.50 for the beef, price doesn't match the menu. They have good food and a great CON. Honestly, I would have paid the higher prices, they should consider updating their menu and sticking to those prices, take our or dine in. read more

I got chicken fajitas to go and was able to take a margarita back to my hotel too. These could be the best fajitas I've ever eaten. Plus enough for 2 meals! I had Mom's Meatloaf with Mac & Cheese and Corn. I can't put into words how underwhelming this meal was. Hungry man TV dinner comes to mind. I've had better meatloaf in an MRE while I'm the Army. We ordered from DoorDash so the only ambiance was in my living room. But at least their service was excellent. The food was so delicious! It had such a wonderful flavor. I had an early morning flight and was staying at the hotel next-door as it is very close to Dallas Love Field. There was no room service or restaurant in the hotel, so I decided to search for nearby restaurants. When I went to the Walters kitchen website, I read his story. I think reading his history is what convinced me I had to try his place. We ordered nachos and a chicken fried steak dinner. The nachos were excellent with the works, except for jalapeños. I asked for them to leave those off. The chicken fried steak was absolutely huge and it covered almost everything else in the to-go box! it was cooked to perfection with the outside being very crispy and the inside, tender and juicy. The gravy comes on the side and you can order white or brown. The vegetables tasted fresh and the mashed potatoes were real. So creamy with little chunks of potato. We travel through Dallas several times a year and usually stay at this hotel the night before an early flight. I will definitely be returning to Walters kitchen. read more

Beware! The prices listed on the men are not what gets printed on your bill. For example, menu reads 14.95 for meatloaf but bill rings up as 15.55. 60 cents is not a lot, but this tactic repeated over and over for customers throughout the day is dishonest. The food is good and the service is okay- but the waitress was not willing to correct the bill saying "prices are lower if you pay cash." They should correct their menu. It's not right, fair or honest. If you choose to eat here, tripple check your bill. And don't even get me started on the Fox news being broadcasted throughout the venue. read more

First time here and our server Courtney was flvery friendly and welcoming. My friend and I go the Country Fried Steak and the Lemon Herb Grilled Chicken Breast. We prefer establishments with character and not fast food restaurants. Walter's is a little off the beaten path but we'll worth finding. It appears to be a well used local hangout with a bar and stage. There was minimal wait staff but they were always in motion taking care of business and very friendly. What a gem! We found this place during the 2023 Winter Storm; one of the few places even open today. From the time we pulled into the parking lot we've been impressed. It was one of the few parking lots that had been cleared off today. Upon walking inside we were greeted by Jodie and she was a joy to have as a server and bar tender. The drinks were very reasonable and the selection would rival any bar in Texas. The food was delicious! Walter, himself stopped by our table and visited with us for a few minutes. The menu has a wide selection of food to meet almost anyone's food preferences and is based on the types of food Walter likes. We were a party of 4 and we had the spring rolls (4 to an order). These were so good. Then between us we had the Chicken Fried Chicken, the Chicken Fried Steak,and Kung Pao Chicken. The fried steak and chicken looked hand breaded and the gravies (brown and white) were creamy and seasoned great. The Kung Pao Chicken was served with steamed white rice and had just the right amount of spice. They are scammers. The waitress brought the ticket to me for one amount and I noted it and kept a copy then she took the ticket and came back with a higher amount so I thought ok I guess she added a 20% tip so I will clearly mark zero and that's that no biggie. I just looked at my bank statement and she added another 20% after I marked zero tip (already added !) I clearly put a line with a zero and circled the two different amounts. This is a hidden gem. I was hesitant about eating here, but so glad I did. it has a variety of food on the menu. My son ordered Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. The white gravy was real gravy and the potatoes were real not boxed or instant potatoes. My husband ordered Orange Chicken and the sauce has fresh bits of real ginger. Myself, I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and it was amazing. My husband and son had chocolate cake and peach cobbler for dessert. The portions are large and filling. The place is clean and staff is attentive and friendly. You got to try this place. if you judge a book by its cover, you definitely would miss a worthwhile place to eat. We stopped on for dinner on a rainy Saturday night. Didn't want to fight the Dallas traffic. The place is clean and we were met by smiling staff. Oddly, the place was almost empty. Our server, Rosaria was super friendly and efficient. The menu is a bit strange, featuring home cooking, Mexican, and Asian foods, not a combination you see a lot. The menu explains that Walter worked his way up in the restaurant business, cooking at several large restaurants and now he cooks the best from each place. I had the beef fajitas, my wife had the double pork chop, and we split some spring rolls to get some of each cuisine. My wife's fried pork chops were HUGE and well cooked. My fajitas were tasty and fresh. We both felt they could both use a dash more seasoning. But the star of the show was the spring rolls! They were screaming hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Rosa made the dinner fun, kept our drinks fresh, and made sure we were well taken care of. The prices were very affordable, especially considering the serving size. I'd have given them five stars if the entrees had just had a touch more seasoning. Next time, we'll try some Asian entrees to see if they are as awesome as the spring rolls. I really enjoyed this place from the moment i walked in. I met Walter who is friendly and engaging. My server, Gracy, was super helpful and friendly. The menu has something for everyone...really. I started with the Avocado Bombs which are two lightly tempura fried wedges topped with a krab salad and a drizzle of an asain sauce. Incredible. There is a whole section of sushi rolls and Asian dishes I'm interested in trying if this avocado bomb is any indication of how good they will be. Next I tried the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans which is a simple dish that is easy to do badly. The meatloaf was moist tender and covered in a rustic tomato sauce that was just great. The green beans were cooked tender, had a really interesting flavor slightly sweet and seasoned with bacon. And the mashed potatoes...well for me...i like a rustic mash. i like knowing someone actually mashed them. they were just like i like them.
