The most incredible breakfast burrito!! So delicious!! Had heard it was one of the best if not the best in LA and I would honestly agree. We got the vegetarian breakfast burritos and they were absolutely delicious. The chipotle crema on the side really adds to it. We didn't love the interior because it felt like there was a lot of wasted space where more tables could be added. The service was great although there was a line but it moved quickly. The bagels were delicious too but the two bagel and two schmear minimum is very odd. The coffee was good too tho. Would definitely get these again! read more

This place and previous reviews over exaggerated it. The coffee is in the smallest cup (3" tall) and the burritos are almost as small. I tried to order a bagel with cream cheese, I was told there is a two bagel minimum. Begrudgingly I said ok (can't eat that much) then I was told the cream cheese was at a separate cost, and that was a two minimum purchase. I'm sorry but if I thought I was going to get my money's worth then I'd pay it. Eat one now and save the other for later. But the size of their products are not worth the exorbitant price. I would not return or recommend this place. It appears that everything is prepared beforehand and just heated up by the speed of service. read more

Just dined here this morning and we tried the steak burrito and the bacon burrito some bagels and the cinnamon roll that's only available on the weekends and everything was very good. The bagels with cream cheese on the side reminded me of NY style bagels. Love the historic building it's in. If any constructive criticism I would recommend a better seating area nicer chairs and tables for people to hang out cause the space is amazing. Service was excellent! read more

I asked my friend if she wanted to split a breakfast burrito with me from lucky boy. She mentioned this place and said she hadn't tried it yet. I was surprised I had never heard of it being that I thought I had had every breakfast burrito in the area. I ordered it to go and was taken aback by the $20 price. I've never spent that much on a breakfast burrito, so the stakes were very high. The interior is impressive. It's very modern looking and massive, which I found odd cause they had enough space to have a full on bakery and restaurant, but it's just burritos and bagels. As soon as I saw the box I was a disappointed. It looked a small and then I was disturbed by how light it weighed. When I opened the box I was even more disturbed. It was no exaggeration one of the smallest breakfast burritos I've ever seen. (See pictures, it looks like I have hulk hands) The only ones I've seen smaller were from fast food spots, which made the stakes even higher. The burrito was good. But I expected something really special and unique. I recently had Bbad which was also expensive, but I've never tasted anything like it before and it was so rich that it ended up being very filling. This was pretty basic and I could have easily eaten two and not been overly full. I think it was on par with lucky boy as far as taste but lucky boy is half the price and the size of my forearm. The math just didn't work. So even though I enjoyed it, it's just absolutely absurd to charge that much for a tiny breakfast burrito. I've ordered from Wake and Late about ten times now, always doing online pickup for their steak breakfast burrito. I have to say, the burritos are really delicious! However, I've always felt they were a bit small for the price you pay. Recently, I was excited to see they offer bagels on Fridays through Sundays and decided to give one a try. While I was prepared for the price to be a little higher, I was surprised to see a single bagel is $4.50, and then the accompanying cream cheese or butter is also $4.50! I wasn't able to attach a photo to show the small portion size of the spread. Today, I just wanted to order one bagel and planned to use my own cream cheese at home. When I went online to place a pickup order, I discovered I could only order bagels in a half-dozen. Since I was short on time, I went into the restaurant to order just one. Unfortunately, I was told that purchasing a bagel requires also buying their cream cheese or a spread. While I understand businesses have their policies, this particular rule feels a little restrictive, especially with current costs. I hope the owner might reconsider making the cream cheese an optional purchase and perhaps look at the pricing to be a bit more competitive. I'd love to continue enjoying their food, but this policy makes it difficult. Hopefully, they'll take customer feedback into consideration. read more

Overpriced and overrated. I honestly don't get how some people call this the best breakfast burrito--I'd take Café Los Feliz or Bread & Breakfast over this any day. The steak breakfast burritos are decent, with crispy hash browns that add a lot of flavor, but the price tag is steep for what you're getting. Their cilantro crema is really good, but Bread & Breakfast has a similar sauce at a cheaper price. I also tried their dirty matcha, and it was a big miss for me. My friend and I both didn't finish our drinks--it just wasn't good. If you're a breakfast burrito fanatic, I might suggest giving it a shot just to try it, but after eating here, I don't feel any real urge to come back. Decided to stop by the other day - I think it was the second day of their opening. I've had wake and late at there DTLA location, that location is pretty sketchy and smells like funky. This new Pasadena location if very hipster and clean so I like it a lot more. The burritos here are good and full of hype - don't get me wrong no matter which one you choose it's pretty delicious they use fresh ingredients. The sauces that come with go well with the burritos. The only thing is that they are quite pricey and small - for $20 you're going to get a pretty small burrito - it's like the size of my hand... You could get a breakfast burrito double the size and for less around the corner. The burrito pretty much tasted the same as the other location. I ordered online and it texted me when it was ready super convenient. I would probably come back again - but its not something that I will eat normally... They have taken rip and dip concept to a whole new level with the crispy on the outside and soft on the inside bagel and the fluffiest cream cheese flavor. We live a few blocks from this Pasadena location and we're incredibly grateful to have one of the city's best near us. The menu focuses on what they do well - breakfast burritos. The burritos are well constructed made with high quality ingredients. A lot of people complain that they are small but honestly they're the perfect size for one person without being overstuffed. The sauces are great. My favorite burrito is the vegetarian surprisingly - they do a good job balancing the acidity in the burrito. There are tables inside and outside that turnover pretty quickly so we haven't had to wait too long for a table - most of the wait time is on the food itself. They have an online ordering system if you're in a time crunch. I haven't had a chance to come for their bagels since they had a minimum amount you're required to order but I'm sure we will give their tip and dip bagels a chance! $18 breakfast burrito? Is it better than one from your favorite greasy spoon? It's a maybe for me. Is it better than a sit down breakfast cafe. The answer is yes. Considering I find most of those breakfast burritos bland with terrible sauce options. Wake and Late is an order at the counter, pick up your order when your name is called, and seat yourself. So I appreciated it when my order was rung up and I wasn't given the prompt to tip. An $18 burrito at its current size I assume it has been built into the cost? We ordered the bacon burrito, the steak burrito and 4 bagels. Between the bacon and steak I preferred the steak because the bacon burrito had too much crunch with the bacon and tots together. We were given 2 types of sauce. A spicy red salsa and a creamy cilantro sauce. Both really good. I can't decide which I preferred. As for the bagels you must order at least 2 and same for the sold separately cream cheese. We opted for the honey butter and Scallion cream cheese. I ate the Parmesan bagel immediately and it was very fresh and I loved it with the airy cream cheese but personally it had way too much baked/burnt on Parmesan which made it too salty and bitter. Later I ate the plain bagel. I reheat it and was just as good as when I ate the other bagel on-site. However I'm not a big enough of a bagel fan to appreciate it. If I'm in the area I see myself stopping by for a quick bite if it's not too busy. read more

The best breakfast burrito in pasadena BAR NONE. It's expensive because it's the best. I've been here 9-10x and it's been 10/10 each time. Twice there was a mistake on my burrito, both times they took EXCELLENT care with a smile. The sauces are all good and the plain bagels are great too. The cinnamon roll, if you're there on a weekend is HOLY SHIT good. It's expensive relative to mediocre burritos like lucky boys, yes, but when you're the best, you set the price. My bro told me about it and we had it literally right after Tempura because we were both still hungry from Tempura. He said it's really good but the breakfast burrito is really small and expensive. Regardless, we got one for us to share and as advertised from him, it really was delicious but I can't justify paying that much(20ish) for one of the smallest breakfast burrito ever. Wow! I gave this place out a try last weekend. The service was impeccable! The cashier guy was great and the workers putting the food out were so nice too. We ordered the bacon burrito and the steak burrito with hot sauce on the side. The hot sauce was spicy and delicious! I even asked for a side of chipotle aioli to try that out, which was delicious! Not only was it just fine, it was soooo tiny. It's like a really big taco. Your money is better spent getting the breakfast burrito at Lucky Boys just down the street. Everything is set up to bring out the best while negating every little blemish. So I'm happy to see WAKE AND LATE lives up to the hype and even surpasses expectations. Deco/Ambiance - "Grandeur meets vacuous" WAKE AND LATE is located in the heart of Pasadena where something is always happening. Though parking can be difficult to find, walking through the neighborhoods to get to this place is more pleasant than a walk in the park. The buildings are gorgeous, the mixture of green space and urban planning finds balance, and you might even see another spot you'll want to visit after. Once you arrive at the entrance you see a line corralled by stanchions leading into this nouveau art building. The inside has toweringly high ceilings. Also, they might be in the middle of redesigning their restaurant because 80% of WAKE AND LATE is inaccessible, hidden behind makeshift barricades and trifold panels. It is strange and off putting but it leaves more intrigue than baffled looks. The use of clean white lines and paint for the interior also gives a timeless yet modern vibe. Service - "Quick to order, wait for the prize" For as long as the line might be to order your food the wait goes by quite quickly. The person behind a counter stands adjacent to a glass display of their baked goods, enticing you with their delicious presence. WAKE AND LATE's menu isn't large and you can easily decide what you want after a minute of looking at the menu. Just remember if you want to order bagels there is a 2 bagel minimum and the smear/cream cheese comes separately. However, the wait to receive the food is a different story. Because WAKE AND LATE makes their food fresh it can take some time to receive your orders. I saw some people wait 20 minutes for their bagels. But the real question is: is the food worth the wait? Food - "OMG YES" As some people might have noted this place is known for their breakfast burritos. It is notorious for being delicious and has been even considered one of the best breakfast burritos in Los Angeles county. Does it live up to its hype? Kinda. The burrito I had was a bacon burrito. Though not large in size it was packed full of high quality eggs, cheese, and the crispiest bacon you could ask for. If you love crunchy, crackling bacon than you'll love this burrito. The cilantro crema it came with was also a highlight, accentuating each bite and adding another layer of complexity. But as far as best goes, no. It is very tasty and will leave you happy but there are other burritos with far more to give you for the price you pay (we'll discuss this later). The bagels are out of this world though. The exterior of the bagels have this wonderful firmness to it where you aren't afraid to manhandle them. They have gravitas and so does the flavor. I tried the parmesan bagel and the sweet onion. Neither were oily like you might expect with such ingredients. For the parmesan bagel we spread a honeycomb butter on it and for the sweet onion we did the lox smear. I was surprised by how light and airy the actual bagel was. Though immense in flavor it didn't feel heavy at all. The honeycomb butter was phenomenal and it was one of those items where you can put it on a shoe and it probably would be amazing. The parmesan bagel itself was fantastic. Even with nothing on it the crunchy bits of the cheese along with the savoriness added a great mixture of texture and flavor. The sweet onion bagel was a complete surprise to me as the caramelized onions incorporated in the bagel actually brought out a sweetness I wasn't expecting. I had this with the lox smear and though I personally would've loved more salmon in it the smear had a great balance. Both bagels worked so well with the playful nature of sweet and savory. I dare to say, WAKE AND LATE might be the best bagel I've had so far. Price - "Ouchie" "Los Angeles is a cheap place to eat," said no one ever. Though the quality of the food here is amazing the price makes this more a special occasion visit than you becoming a regular. I ordered an iced coffee, 2 bagels with 2 different smears, and a breakfast burrito and it was over $40. If you're okay with that, definitely visit and visit often. If not, maybe make this an occasion. Overall, I still think of WAKE AND LATE on Sunday mornings. I think of what each bagel would taste like in different combinations and when I can go next. I can still smell and taste it in my memory. If that isn't enough reason to want to return somewhere, then what is? read more

From the outside you might not expect this place to serve food as it is in an old bank-looking building. But, the door is open and immediately upon arriving you are greeted kindly. It s an order at the front, pay, and then have a seat (which I prefer over traditional dinning). 2 burritos and 2 coffees came out to $50 which seemed pricey, but was worth it when we started eating. The burritos are fresh and have avocado, eggs, crispy bacon, and tatter tots (I got mine without cheese). Soooo good! The coffee is a bit strong, so forewarning to those who like their coffee on the milkier side. But I didn't mind! The place does get busy, but they work quickly.
