My husband, for some good awful reason, used to love Waffle House. We indulged him against my better judgment and I regretted it the moment we sat down. The floors, food prep surfaces, and table were filthy with food scraps. Flies were swarming so much it was as though we were outside. Even the reach ins had spilled food in them. Our waitress was either hard of hearing or just rude because she kept saying, "What?" Instead of "excuse me." I watched the cook go from cracking eggs- the whites running from his gloved hands- to cutting pieces of toast and serving them without changing his gloves once. In the midst of a pandemic, no customers were asked to wear masks while they waited for a table or their food and there was no enforcement of capacity or social distancing. We moved tables to distance ourselves from a party that insisted on sitting right behind us. The crisp bacon I ordered arrived as I was almost finished with my waffles and was sopping with grease and barely cooked. The butter containers for our waffles that had been sitting on a filthy countertop, was unnecessarily placed right on top of our waffles. We ate around that part. It was so bad, I ended up telling my husband we will NEVER set foot inside of another Waffle House again. It's pure trash. read more

Solid, greasy, hangover cure diner food. The hash browns are amazing, covered smothered capped and whatever crazy words/ways of ordering them are. I get mine with cheese, onions, mushrooms, jalapeños, and tomatoes. The all-star is great for breakfasty foods but my go-to is the chicken melt. It's on SUPER buttery Texas toast, and it hits the spot every time! Like I said, hangover-be-gone! The service is always very friendly and fun! The staff here has some regulars who have worked there for years, and it's always nice to see them. Even still, the new faces are always nice and friendly. I haven't had a bad experience here yet. The food always comes out quick and this is one of my all time favorite breakfast food places. First of all, they have Mr. Pibb. Do you know how rare that is? I just love it. Pibb fans such as myself love finding hidden gems like this that carry Mr. Pibb. Most places have forgotten about that wonderful beverage. So I always get my Pibb and the All Star Breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon and a chocolate chip waffle. The toast is great, I always eat mine and my husband's! The bacon is good too. If he ate bacon I'm sure I would eat his bacon too. The eggs are always made just like you order them. The waffle is soft and delicious, as you can tell by the mouth watering photo. Too much chocolate? I think not. The environment is relaxed and friendly here. I always feel at home almost. There's a jukebox and sometimes I play some songs from my TouchTunes account. One time I accidentally played "Friends in Low Places" two times in a row and everyone was confused. Oh well, you can never have too much Garth Brooks. I always get a Pibb to go because it's so good. I am never disappointed visiting the Waffle House. The best way to describe them is fast, quick and easy. They always deliver service with a smile. The servers take the time to say hi and visit with you. If you haven't tried a pecan waffle you're missing out! They are a must have, so good with some butter and syrup! I am writing this sitting in the Waffle House having been waiting for my food for over an hour. I had to remind my waitress of my order because they completely forgot to even start to make my food. I'm starving and my friends finished their food before I've even gotten mine. We're actually having to take it to go because everyone else is finished except me. There's also 3 other people who's orders were completely forgotten about in the restaurant with me right now. The waffles are sweet (get a double order & split to save - the first waffle is about $3 and the second is $1). Famous for their shredded hash browns and the goofy words you have to use to order them* - if you say, hash browns with cheese and tomatoes, the waitress will say scattered covered and diced. So, use their goofy potato words or you'll feel like a jerk. There are two WH's in Norman, and this is the good one (the other is closer to the movie theater). This one is located next to a Golden Corral that I'm sure pulls a lot of their business. You have to decide what you want from your diner experience. At Waffle House, the staff might *gasp* talk to you. Waffle Houses are frequented by actual truckers. If you want to be a loud childish asshole, Waffle House is actually still a good choice for you. Bring no more than 3 friends (or seating could be difficult), show up at 3 - 4am, and play all of the Waffle House songs (seriously**, there are songs like There Are Raisins in My Toast). The Waffle House loves everybody, and you'll get a 10-25% military discount depending on who's working. If you like the idea of Waffle House but don't like going there, I recommend Sunny Side Up on Robinson. I don't know why people don't like WaHo (Waffle House), but this place is amazing. You have to love the system of efficiency and cheapness that is Waffle House and learn to respect it for what it is: a cheap 24 hour diner. You can split a meal with someone and pay 4 dollars each for breakfast and coffee any time of the day. If you can't find a place to eat, chances are everyone will be happy with Waffle House, especially at late night or on a hungover morning. Unless you've never been to a Waffle House, reading a critical review seems nearly as unnecessary as writing one, but given my across-the-board expertise in all things restaurant, a.k.a. my penchant for dining alone and reading all available literature, I doubt I can add to the canon of diner reviews in any meaningful way. Waffle House is a chain of diners that are built along interstates, like toll booths, never more than 5 feet from the highway and there's pretty much one at every exit, especially in the South. I'm not saying if you see a Waffle House, you're in the South, but I will say that if you see a Waffle House, someone in the WH organization thinks where you are is the South. Waffle House is always open. Their system is a highly refined American diner style, where the servers call out coded orders to solitary short-order cooks. I've always found this entertaining, more so on the rare occasion the cook doesn't give the impression that they're chained to an oven in Hell for eternity. Actually this is why, among all identical Waffle Houses, I like this one pretty well, the employees are usually upbeat and entertaining, with the exception of the last time we went in, and our real waitress never made it out of the back area. We heard the employees continually asking one another "is she okay?" which is a disconcerting thing to have to hear throughout the course of your meal what with the looming zombie apocalypse and all...but it didn't hamper the service, the rest of the staff simply stepped in and we didn't require much, also none of them looked as if they had been scratched or bitten. Waffle House is indeed the leading purveyor of waffles, but what put them on the map was the Toddle House omelets, which gets their fluffiness from being scrambled in the same machine that blends ice cream shakes. I mean, not the exact same machine, gross, but a similar machine... Regardless, both waffle and omelette here are... how to put this... a great value. Not awesome, but cheap, and pretty good. It leaves a lot to be desired, the only cheese is American, the only hot sauce is Tabasco, my girlfriend and I offer competing explanations for what they use as blueberries in the blueberry waffles. The fact I can have all the things I mentioned in this review and bottomless coffee for under $10 anytime of day, though, is really what warrants 4 stars in my mind. read more

When my boyfriend and I went to waffle house it was pretty packed so we had to sit on the bar and had the pleasure of watching them cook our food. By the time the food arrived we were so disgusted that we refused to eat any of his eggs and meat we were served. We had been watching them prepare eggs and what they did was take a small metal cup and break eggs in it, mix the eggs on a mechanical mixer, and then put them on the griddle to cook. They proceeded to just set the small cup down on the counter and leave it there. A little while later when someone else ordered eggs they would just pick the cup up and do it again. Yes you read correctly, they would not wash the cup or the mixer off before they started another order. We began to think about how long that cup might have been used and about how long it may have been sitting out at room temperature (24 hour restaurant) unwashed and needless to say we completely lost our appetites. There's a decent chance that someone will be smoking while making your food, but that's part of the experience.
