We came in today and were told it would be about a 1.5-2 hour wait. Somehow, we got seated within FIVE minutes, so we were feeling pretty lucky. Then came the plot twist... we waited about 45 minutes for our food. Our waiter came by maybe three times total. The sign on the wall literally says "Drink More Cocktails." We would've loved to... but we rarely saw our waiter! He never checked to see if we wanted another drink or anything. At one point, we finally asked another waiter if she could go find ours. She asked us to describe him. My husband said, "The one that doesn't talk and doesn't have a personality." SHE IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHO HE WAS. Scratch is a local favorite, and almost every time I'm in Norman (down from New York) I end up here. Their cocktails are great, and the food options are delightful. On my last trip to OK, a friend and I met up here for brunch. I had a paloma which was light and refreshing. I cant actually remember what my meal was - but I know it was delicious and a huge portion of food that I had a hard time finishing. The atmosphere was very casual and we had a seat that was sort of in an alcove and allowed for a nice intimate dining experience with friends. A new restaurant location has opened in Norman, and they have great beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic alike, including a mean Arnold Palmer with honey. The Scratch Hawaiian rolls are soft and pillowy, their tomato basil soup is great and their blackened catfish on top of risotto with charred Brussels sprouts are excellent. It's a rare occasion we are out for brunch and since we're out of towners, we decided to pop in to see what this place was all about. Sure glad we did! First we were sat right away! The place we tried to go for breakfast right before this place told us we had to wait 30-50 minutes. Not only were we greeted by friendly waitstaff, they gave wonderful recommendations. I think Teddy and I may have found our new weekend lunch spot. Scratch not only has a dog friendly patio that is adorable, they have a dog friendly menu. Teddy has dementia and hip dysplasia so it's getting harder and harder to leave him alone at home. Being able to take him on car rides to cute coffee shops and restaurants when it's too hot to hit the park has been a game changer and has brought us closer together. That being said, not only am I stoked to find a new restaurant that allows my pup, but the service, ambiance and food are impeccable. It's cute indoors also from what I could tell, but the patio is colorful and they had an indie playlist circa 2010 playing. I ordered the Sriracha Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp and it was one of the best Caesars I've had in a long time. The lettuce was crisp, the cheese and dressing weren't overpowering and the shrimp was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. It wasn't tough or chewy and burst with flavor. We've been to Scratch Kitchen a few times now and it's one of our new favorites! I will say we've only sat at the bar so I can't speak to the dining room. The service is fantastic, the drinks and food are excellent and they have the coolest speakeasy downstairs. I'll never go here again. I was a server for 8 years and I always tip good. However, I never even had a chance to meet my server here. I sat down, first time here, and was never even greeted. I sat there for over 5 minutes playing on my phone as servers walked past, not even looking at me. When this is my first time, and I have a history of serving, I am completely done. Rude service!! I have been going here for years. Great place for a good drink and some good food. This time however, they have added Gumbo to the menu. From someone that has been to the bayou more times than I can count, I will whole heartedly say this dish took me back there! I don't know if I'll go back. We really wanted to try the pickles but they were out. That would be a reason to return at least once. We went for dinner service. We sat at a high top near the bar . It was a decent enough atmosphere but nothing exciting. Our server was very nice. I was not impressed with the items I ordered. It's almost like the kitchen doesn't taste what they're sending out. Maybe my expectations were too high for a place named Scratch? The ranch was good! That's where the positive experience halted with the food. The bean and corn salsa seemed like cans dumped into spongy diced tomatoes with zero seasoning. The fried tomatoes themselves were also not seasoned? My entree, the creole seafood pasta was odd. The pasta was fresh but overcooked and just seconds from being mush. Both the shrimp and crawfish were tasteless. The sauce had a hint of spice but that's it. Nice place to go for lunch. This was my second visit. The restaurant was not busy at all. It has a cute hipster aesthetic in my opinion. Cute places for some photo ops with friends. Nice for a date night or a bite to eat with friends. They are known for their old fashions and home made ketchup.
