I was tempted to go for a more meat based sandwich but I followed my veggie heart with no regrets. This place deserves every star it's earned! 5 stars, that is! Ok I'm a VERY picky breakfast sandwich eater, and they had something that spoke to me. An english muffin with goat cheese, spicy pesto, and a medium egg. It was luscious even though vegetarian, with lots of flavor. The homemade muffin is very good (as someone who doesn't prefer them) and so nice and fluffy. Not to mention the coffee - the maple latte made with Tandem beans was *chefs kiss*. I ate the oatmeal cookie later in the day, and it has the texture and childhood flavors of the original lunchbox snack. Delicious! Amazing job on social distancing, too. Great work, Vinal! read more

If Somerville had a hidden gem, Vinal would be a front runner. I've been here a handful of times for the coffee and pastries, and I can attest that those are amazing. Especially the coffee milk, like when I saw that on the menu and they described it as "imagine the taste of coffee ice cream but in drinkable form," I was immediately sold and it now has a special place in my heart. Yet this specific review (or really an ode) is for their take on the McMuffin. To understand me, you must know I had disliked Italian food for a long time because all I knew was Olive Garden (not bad by any means, but most people know that's chain Italian). I had harbored similar feelings for the English muffin prior to writing this review. McDonalds ruined the English muffin for me at a young age and I always associated them as dry, crunchy, and unworthy to other forms of carbs that fall under the bread genus (if such a thing exists). Don't get me wrong, I do like the Golden Arches - just not their McMuffin breakfast sandwich. In a poet twist of fate, Vinal's take on the McMuffin has now converted me to the belief that all I knew was bad English muffins and that real ones should taste and have a consistency to that of the McVinal. These english muffins are fantastic. I think I used the word pillowy to describe them. PILLOWY. I could stop the review there and you would probably say to yourself, bout to go get myself some pillowy muffins. BUT WAIT, THERES MORE. I tried the G.O.A.T. a wonderful blend of goat butter (I am not convinced this is different than goat cheese because it tastes like goat cheese but I also haven't asked if there is a difference), spicy pesto, arugula and over-medium egg. SIDEBAR - Over medium is a fantastic way for an egg to be when you are consuming it in a public place. No one wants egg on their face (ha). I DIGRESS - this fantastic combo is pretty damn tasty. I ate this sandwich as slow as I could to really enjoy it. But I am a monster so that meant it took me like 1 minute to eat. Second time I went I had the Ms Maple on an Anadama english muffin because maple is the flavor of the gods and Anadama is OG New England. My new friend who sat across from me got the same thing but on french toast english muffin. PRO. MOVE (I think I didn't try it cause we literally just met and that would be weird). They are serving Tandem coffee, which I can fuck with. And I just saw they added a maple latte to the menu. jesus. I live down the street, been there several times. Quality is there for the food. Great flavor profiles In the baked goods. Too expensive though. I can justify the price for quality but not for the English muffins. $8 for a four pack is too much. My worry is if quality slips and their prices stay the same... then we have another Bloc 11 in the neighborhood. But hey, if they sell out of those muffins all the time maybe I'm just too cheap! Coffee program needs improvement. I got a not so hot cappuccino once. It seems that when certain employees are scheduled the quality is there, tells me they got to train those lesser skilled personnel. 5 stars because staff is awesome and they care. Word of advise for owner... Take care of the baker. Take care of your barista. The opening crew is so important for places like this. Let them grow and help open more shops. Best of luck to you. I wanted to dislike this place a bit since it's the beginning of the end for one of the last un-bougiefied chunks of Somerville outside Winter Hill. Unfortunately, I can't because their egg sandwiches are just TOO DAMN DELICIOUS! Always perfectly cooked eggs, great cheese choices (accenting the eggs and bread well), nice fresh baked english muffins without anything super weird going on taste-wise (which is good, makes them quite more-ish and not something you get sick of), but clearly distinguishable in quality and taste from some generic brand sysco ones or whatever. More importantly, the biscuits are NEXT LEVEL, probably the best I've had in Boston. Sub a biscuit in as bread for one of the sandwiches, and you've got hands down THE BEST egg and cheese sandwich in the Greater Boston area. Sorry Trina's, you had a great run with your breakfast sammie, and it's still amazing, but there's no contest here. I guess it's good the biscuits are a weekend only thing,, because if they had them every day I'd be tempted to wake up early and go to this place times a week. WOWOWOW. So yummy. Stopped in this morning and got the Miss Maple with ham on a multigrain English muffin - it was perfect. It was a bit expensive at $9.09, BUT that is pretty on par with similar options in the area, and you can tell that all the ingredients are great quality, so it seems worth it to me. I'm not generally a huge fan of English muffins, but this one was tall, soft, and freshly made. Really, really good. The ham was thinly sliced and not like plasticky deli ham (if you know what I mean). The cheddar was white (for anyone like me who dislikes orange cheese) and nice n melty in the sandwich. It was also made fairly quickly, so probably good if you're in a rush too. Overall, would highly recommend! The only con would be the price point (I could see myself coming here more often if the prices were a bit lower), but again, they're on par with the other places in the area. read more

Wow. There aren't many places that you brave union sq construction for... but this is it. We go at least once per week for their breakfast sandwiches (or lunch sandwiches). The sandwiches are all served on homemade English muffins and you can choose the "flavor" of muffin. I'm not even an English muffin person, but I would eat any and every sandwich or even anything on one of Vinal's English muffins. We keep a stack of them at home in the freezer for a rainy day to have with butter or jam. They are life changing. (And often sell out on a busy weekend day). The weekdays are an amazing time to come to work and sit and stay awhile. (Coffee is excellent, they serve tandem coffee). Easy online order and takeout window for mid-COVID times and the staff was very friendly and efficient. My husband and I both got the Miss Maple on Biscuit and oh my word was it delicious. Added Bacon and haven't been this happy with a single sandwich in a long time. Bonus points for some sandwich names that made me laugh out loud and making their own English muffins as well. A good sandwich requires good bread, and Vinal's homemade english muffins have stolen my heart and make for the perfect sandwiches! Yum! Their coffee is great, the ambiance is welcoming, the sandwiches/English muffins are terrific and the staff are super pleasant. I pass this bakery every day on my way to work and it's always so inviting with the colorful tables outside and the modern, welcoming vibes within. The English muffin breakfast sandwiches are so good and the coffee is great too. It definitely helps that I always have a pleasant experience with all of the works too- that definitely keeps me as a customer! The bakery items always look really good though I have yet to try them. This cafe is located at an odd isolated spot, otherwise I would have checked it out much sooner. The english muffin sandwiches are a great idea and I love that they have different muffin flavors and you can easily adapt the sandwich offered on their menu. I had the Miss Maple sandwich which is an egg/cheddar sandwich with maple butter. The sandwich was delicious. I really enjoyed the maple butter and their english muffins are very good. Space is limited but seems a lot of people buy their sandwiches and drinks for takeout. They have a wide selection of drinks though I just had their hot chocolate which was well made. They do have a selection of baked goods but nothing really caught my eye. It seems that most people come for the english muffins as several people were opting to just buy bags of their pre-packed english muffins.Overall, I would recommend this place if you happen to be in the area and want a light meal. read more

I ordered the American classic on a biscuit with bacon and avocado and it was just beyond. The biscuit is HUGE and while $2.50 seemed a little steep for bacon, it was well worth it as it was a good amount of great quality bacon. I usually try to keep my breakfast takeout orders reserved for lazy weekend mornings but here I am on a Monday trying to justify why it's okay to go and grab another one. (it'll help me start my week off on a great note! it's Christmas week!) It seems silly to say that the service was exceptional as all the lady did was ask me my name and hand me my order through a takeout window but you know how some people just radiate a really positive and happy energy? Many times I've made the pilgrimage to enjoy their breakfast sandwiches [insert Emma Stone drool face here] and never have I been disappointed. When I'm feeling frisky, I'll grab a baked good and my most recent treat - an apple cider muffin - was euphoric. I know I've liked English muffins but this bakery has made me into a English muffin super fan. I'm partial to 'The Miss Maple' with French Toast English muffin (available Fri/Sat/Sun) or with the classic muffin on the other days. We've just finished Stuffin' English muffins from the freezer (when microwaved tastes so amazing even after being stashed there for a bit.) I have four pumpernickel frozen for this month when I can't get to the bakery in person. My sister and mom love the Sorry Charlie. I will try to explain my intense feelings about the vanilla pound cake and the blondie but you also should grab them and try them yourselves. The crumb structure of the pound cake is perfection, the vanilla is balanced so nicely with the richness of the cake. The blondie is slightly crisp on the outer side with intense perfectly sweet interior that is just right (not underdone.) What I look for in a bakery is consistency. Everything here is consistently epic, from the friendliness, warmth and welcoming of the staff and owners, the food preparation and the flavors.
