Fun place! I made a reservation for 6 at 7:30 on a Friday. When you first walk in, it feels very small and like there isn't a lot of room, but they use the space to fill a bunch of tables. The 6 person table was fairly roomy and on the TV they had Bob Ross, which was great. The service was a little slow, but friendly. The food was good. We had the triple dip which came with lots of bread so it was easy to pass around. The falafel was the best we've ever had. Usually falafel is too dry for me, but this was super crispy on the outside and not even dry on the inside. The sauce it comes on is also stellar. The only downside is because it is so crispy it is hard to cut to share. It comes with 3. Most of us got classic gyros. So good. Highly recommend. It is HUGE so be ready. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of the menu at Daddy Jones, which was unique, interesting, and all sounded incredibly delicious! My group of three had the Gyro Souvlaki Platter, Keftedes Sliders (includes 3), Falafel Fritters (also 3), DJ Threeway, and Lemon Potatoes. The souvlaki was definitely the star, and the keftedes and falafel were also good. Ultimately everything was satisfying and the waitstaff was AMAZING. But we felt the dishes all fell a bit short -- they seemed undersauced (I would have loved more than just a hint of the fig honey on the fritters!), and while I love me some carrot dippers, we were underwhelmed by the $16 veggie plate. (I would at least hope for a LARGE portion of hummus when ordered!) The lemon potatoes also seemed a bit over-fried. My friends had been to Daddy Jones before and fondly remembered it, particularly a mac and cheese on the menu (I'm mentioning in the hopes they'll bring it back!). They also did not remember the three TVs on the walls, which don't seem to match the classy, chic vibe. I'm listing a lot of negatives, but overall I did enjoy my visit and I would absolutely return to give it another chance and try other menu items. DJ is that friend who is cool, but also knows he's cool, so he doesn't try all that hard. But you still love him. Cuz he's cool. We walk in on a Monday evening, ask for a table for 4, and the host points at a few inside. We say, "Are there any on the patio?" "Go back there and look for yourself." Alright then. We go out the back & up some stairs to the patio, and it's pretty packed for a Monday. We find a table and steal some high chairs from others. After sitting for a few minutes, we realize there are no waiters to be found. So we head to the outdoor bar where you can order drinks and food. This guy was awesome! He gave us samples of drinks so we could make our decisions (which all ended up being Springdale's Pearly Wit which was on tap) and was also super patient despite our indecisive food decisions. After ordering, we received a painted wine bottle with a number to stick on our table and indicate where our food should end up. Then we waited. For what seemed like a really long time. However, the wait was made much better by the beers, nice outdoor atmosphere, and the random 80's flick they started playing on the large inflatable screen (today it was the 1987 movie Mannequin, which we didn't even know existed, but thoroughly enjoyed laughing at). Finally, our food arrived in two waves. Bacon-wrapped dates (hot & tasty! great mix of sweet & salty), spanikopita (flaky & spinachy in the best ways, accompanied by a yummy yogurt sauce), grilled lamb (literally just a plate with grilled lamb pieces, would not consider an actual appetizer), Mac Daddy (mac & cheese with bacon, nothing too special), moussaka (Mmmmm. I ame here because this place caught my eye before quarantine and I'm happy to know they reopened. They're ordering set up is pretty unique and is mainly outdoors. You'll be getting up to place your order at the window. Most booths seat 2 which have cool wallpaper backgrounds for a fun time taking photos while you wait. Although packed with an appealing Greek menu I was please to find that they have Dominican dishes which brings me back home to NYC. I'll be coming for that another day. I liked the idea of the Athena Burger, a Lamb burger dressed with LTO, red pepper and feta dip (I skipped the bacon). We enjoyed the mixed grilled platter thoroughly as a shared plate but I would recommend getting another side if you're really hungry and will be sharing . It's charming as ever -- it's tucked away in a part of Somerville that keeps it from getting too crowded, but just enough so you feel like you've found a cool, slightly offbeat joint to down your craft beer and pizza with house-made dough (surprisingly good, btw). Those responsible for working with the cumbersome, Manhattan-esque "use it or lose it" layout gave Daddy Jones a very comfortable, very Somerville end design. Kudos! Slinging a limited menu of house cocktails (many featuring infusions and heavy on bourbon) and an equally streamlined array of Greek inspired plates, you might not consider Daddy Jones as a spot for a meal. It'll pop up as "that Magoun Square bar that serves Greek food," further proven by the shoulder-to-shoulder spread on stools, while tables sat empty during peak hours. May have misstepped choosing the Dirty Dill Infused Gin ($9), as it's definitely a one-trick pony. Nothing subtle and hardly balanced, the cocktail is a glass of floral brine with a pickled green bean and olive garnish (they've struck the cornichon). The lasting sentiment: "I ordered it to order it, and now I can say I have." But never again. The fried zucchini ($6) is a comfortable start, with the humble squash getting a jet boost from the amazing skordalia, a garlicky dip of pureed potatoes, almonds and quality oil. We saved what was left for my Fish & Fries ($14) - a sizable filet of beer battered haddock, average spuds and a very nice housemade tartar sauce. Our polite and on-point server Alipio promised crunch, but the batter proved too thick and slightly undercooked, leading to the dreaded doughnut layer between filet and crust. Needless to say, it fell apart quickly. The Huxtables on one TV, March Madness on another and Miami Vice rocking a third, I'll gladly pull up a seat at a smart, feel-good addition to Magoun's off-T strip of promise. But it'll be for a Manhattan Mix Tape and a bar snack - the dinner scene just doesn't have me crying for Daddy. read more

Walking in you wouldn't even know they had one, but go around the left to the bar, and up the stairs, you'll think you've discovered a forgotten rooftop scene you thought you missed. It's actually an empty lot they've sectioned off from the main street with some potted trees. They have a projector here playing classics and some giant Jenga as well. I only had a beer and some wings here, but the wings are good here. They're grilled instead of fried or baked and are pretty tasty. The menu for the patio is a bit more limited than indoors. It's also just across the street from the magoun square sign with plenty of street parking for a Monday night. You'll need it though since public transit options here are limited. read more

My family and I found ourselves in Somerville on our way back from a sporting event and decided to eat here. The restaurant was packed so we sat at the bar. The bartender was tending a full bar plus making drinks for the restaurant and taking food orders. She was doing all of this without a bar back or anyone helping her behind the bar, and yet she managed to be incredibly attentive and hospitable. We waited 45 minutes before receiving our food, which came out in reverse order: entrees first and then appetizers. We had spoken a few times with the management while waiting, to explain that we only had a certain amount of time to get to our destination, and they worked hard to get our food out. The manager handled the situation in the most appropriate manner. The food was very good, but the service was excellent -- incredibly professional. We will definitely be back and will recommend to all our friends who find themselves in the Cambridge-Somerville area. read more

We've been coming here for a few years, but recently we've begun going weekly. Why weekly? Well we now have a toddler who has severe food allergies and it really limits where we can go safely. They remember her allergies, which as a mom of a kid with allergies means the world to me. No like seriously I cried!! She has a blast, she is safe, and the food is good for mom and dad too!! So Not only is daddy jones yummy, the service is beyond amazing- the servers are always kind and friendly, they are super kid friendly (kids eat for free 5pm-6pm), they'll put kid shows on the back tv, and in the nice weather there's outdoor seating!! If you're not into kids then I would avoid coming before 7, after that there should be fewer kids as sitting my the bar area means you will barley notice them!!! read more

Asked waiter a about this after mean and was told there was a $6 up-charge for selecting lamb as protein. This wasn't mentioned on the menu at all, or when ordering. Was completely surprised and no offer to have charge removed. Money isn't the issue (although that's a 33% meal increase I hadn't planned on). But you shouldn't be hiding prices. Maybe an oversight by the owner, but that would have made it 5 star. read more
