I don't like leaving negative reviews for local businesses, but after giving The Fat Greek two chances, I won't be back. Today I spent over $20 on a bowl, and the chicken had a strong off smell. I took one bite, immediately spit it out, and tried a couple of other pieces just to make sure. They all smelled and tasted spoiled. On a hot day at the end of July, I wasn't willing to risk getting sick, so I threw the chicken away. My previous order was also disappointing. The gyro was mostly bagged lettuce, with barely any tomatoes or onions, very little chicken, and such a tiny amount of tzatziki that it lacked flavor and didn't hold the sandwich together. Unfortunately, after two visits, I can't justify going back. I hope the restaurant pays closer attention to the freshness and quality of its food because my experience was extremely disappointing. read more

This is our absolute favorite for Greek/Mediterranean food in the neighborhood! We've tried a couple of others (one pretty good , the other pretty bad) and this a far, far better choice. The gyro and souvlaki are great, as is the falafel. Nice salads, I've yet to try the soups. read more

Ok, so lesson learned: do NOT order any sort of gyro meat here unless it's during busy peak hours. Why not? Because it will have been spinning on that stick for way too long and gotten way too dry and hard. Also, the Greek fries if ordered separately are quite good. The fries that are included with a gyro sandwich which you can order to be served on the side, are not. The latter appear to be frozen not fresh cut unlike the former. The fat greek is excellent fast casual greek food! I loved everything I tried from the lamb gyro, to the greek fries COVERED in seasoned feta, to the dips with warm bread, and lastly the loukoumades. It was all delicious. The quality was great and the service was fantastic. I highly recommend paying them a visit. read more

Everything was ok, but when it came to the dessert loukoumathes aka the little round donut like confections, they could do much better. The consistency of the loukoumathes were spot on, but the syrup was Meh. Come on, use so.e real honey, not just sugar syrup! The sugar syrup is too runny, it was pure runny liquid water ! Writing this as I stand in the restaurant with 6 other people waiting forever for their order. I didn't even order from here. Imagine my frustration when I figured out it was doubling as a ghost kitchen. I have never been to Fat Greek despite being a block away. Neighbors say the food is great but the service/management is atrocious. Mind you, Mediterranean food is top 2 for me. They do not have the bandwidth for ONE restaurant, let alone two. The only person behind the counter who seemed competent was a young Black woman who was out working and blowing her 3 male coworkers out of the water. How is this rated so low. Loved the Fat Greek gyro. Would definitely go again. We had with a Greek salad, that was good. The pita itself was excellent- which should be tablestakes but you'd be surprised. Could have used a little more feta in the salad. Definitely get the fat sauce if you can. The Fat Greek offers an array of Greek dishes in a fast-casual setting. Similar to Subway or Chipotle, the choices are pretty straight-forward. The menu has many Greek favorites, with one of the special gyros called "The Fat Greek", a gyro that has three different meats, fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki, and special "FAT SAUCE". Awesome, authentic Greek gyros!! These are the real deal just like in Greece, seriously. REAL meat cuts layered and tied onto the spit (NOT formed/processed stuff). The Fat Greek gyro is friggin HUGE so if you're super hungry go for that, otherwise you can get a regular gyro and ask for fat sauce on it. They're so good. read more

Found this place accidentally just driving down the road and I am glad that I stopped in. This was one of the best tasting gyros I have had in a while and I love a good gyro! I got the fat gyro and it was great to have a bit of heat (spice) to a gyro for once. I also love the inclusion of fried in a gyro give it a little something extra. Next time I am in the area I would like to give some of their other menu items a try like the salads, platters, or even some of the desserts. Give it a try for a quick grab to go. read more

This place came highly recommended by some people in the town. I ordered The Fat gyro the first time. All the meats in the gyro were rubbery. The fries were soggy. Since I door-dashed it, I have not counted the soggy fries in my review rating. Thinking it may have been my bad luck, I did not put in a review then. After a few months, I ordered the lamb+beef gyro recently. It was worse. The meat was hard, overcooked. It was not tasty. They had not taken any trouble to make the gyro look appeasing. The fries were uninviting and tasteless. Please take care in how you pack your gyro. Maybe put the fries separate. And make everything tasty. Absolutely delicious food - but I want to single out incredible customer service first and foremost. When an order got a minor mix up, the manager of the Fat Greek personally drove our order to our house and made sure we were happy. This will be an early opening and recent combined review. Unfortunately, recent has been nowhere near as good as their soft opening food quality. Also the staff has changed completely from the soft opening and I feel like the big boss was there overseeing everything in the beginning but now I haven't seen him at all in recent visits and it's showing in the quality. Soft opening, Fat Greek Gyro was truly spectacular. Stuffed with meats that were freshly shaved off the spits. Filling's were amazing and absolutely loved it so much I returned the same week and waited another 45 minutes for my FGG again. (I even put a fabulous review on Google after that first visit.) Recent experiences have been much different for me. Food quality has dropped significantly. Fresh meats are not added, portion size of the Fat Greek Gyro has shrunk immensely from opening but what bothers me the most is definitely the lack of meats being fresh. I watched as an employee dug the old meat out from the metal bin as the person on the grill was just tossing the fresh meat into the same tub. I knew right then this gyro was not going to be very good and I was right. Maybe fresh off the spit meat can be requested but otherwise it's going to be a pass for me in the future. I highly recommended TFG to relatives a couple streets away from them and they were very unimpressed after I totally pumped it up. Hopefully the owner will see this am address the issues. read more

They're going through a lot of new restaurant woes and unfortunately I can only give them an average rating of 3/5. We ordered the mixed grill platter and they left some items out so I had to call out. The good thing is the manager was really nice about it and offered to deliver the items to me as I live locally. The unfortunate part of this gesture was he offered a free side of rice. The rice came in a mostly empty container and looked like it was half a scoop or whatever was left over as they were closing up for the night. Aside from this incident, objectively their food left a lot to be desired. The biggest critique would be regarding their meats and seasonings. The meats were all pretty dry, not juicy and didn't have a nice robust flavor. Boston has many amazing Gyro and Greek restaurants so they really failed to compete. Hoping they improve things because it's nice and close to my house but for now; can't give them anything above a 3 in good faith. read more

Dry, dry, dry! Everything in my pita was dry. Dry and crunchy fries, dry overtoasted pita, dried out pork. Trying to take a bite out of it was a feat itself. I struggled to tear through the rubbery dry pita and meat, as if it were pork jerky doused in fat sauce. Chomping on my mouthful, I looked like a cow chewing cud. As I contemplated my poor life decisions, I couldn't understand how this could be. My order wasn't even ready when I arrived for pick up. I can only guess this place does not get enough traffic to turn over their food. I took a chance due to the 50/50 reviews and wished I hadn't. Lunch at the Arlington Fat Greek yesterday was disappointing and distaseful. I had been looking forward to discovering this place for the first time. My discovery included small shredded, dry , greasy pieces of overdone chicken with a "Greek" salad that did not represent its name. Does a good Greek salad have large pieces of out of season tomatoes, a small block of Feta cheese on top of too much lettuce? I ate little, brought the food back ino the restuarant (was sitting outside) on a tray that was very greasy on the bottom. Won't be going to this place again. read more

I can see they're trying, but are short staffed and seem unorganized. There was confusion about our order, which had been entered online. Then the order wasn't ready. I waited another 15 minutes beyond the time the order was supposed to be ready. The falafel wrap was good. The lamb souvlaki was overcooked and very hard to chew. The "roasted potatoes," though nicely seasoned, could have been boiled. There were no skins left on the potatoes. The side Greek salad was fine and fresh. It's such a pain to park in East Arlington that I will not be returning anytime soon. Why doesn't the town try to address the lack of parking? read more

I've been a long time customer but have been disappointed in the quality of food and service recently. Has really gone downhill. Staff is always fighting with each other, seems like a compassionate group. Very hit or miss so you never know what to expect. And you feel like garbage after eating it. Laxatives are a lot cheaper than their $20 gyro. Sorry to say they lost a customer. I'll get a cold gyro and diarrhea somewhere else. read more

Chicken was dry as a bone. Potatoes were hard and pita was soggy because it was in styrofoam container and not in foil or anything.

I arrived before my scheduled pick up time and stood at the food pick up corner quietly. There was absolutely no acknowledgment of my presence by the staff. No eye contact was given or question about my order offered. When my app said that my food was ready, I approached them to ask about my food. The staff member simply walked away (obviously to get the manager). I was then told that they didn't have one of my food items. As I was not acknowledged by the front worker, I was not notified by the store of this lack of food until having to wait for over 40 minutes. Plus, why they would not make the other orders is beyond me. It was only after the manager approached us did we figure out a new order to correct his worker's laziness and lack of decency. The entire debacle took over an hour! I will never go back. Extremely poor service! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for quite a while--guess I should have read recent reviews first . . . ordered two Greek Salads with grilled chicken among other items. When I got home realized they hadn't included the chicken, so had to go back (another 20 minute round trip). The lamb and beef gyro was terrible--the meats were indistinguishable from each other, just crispy overcooked bits instead of the traditional slices from a skewer, a couple of tasteless tomatoes, boring tzatziki and not a single onion slice. Ditto on the chicken gyros and the pork. Could have been any meat in there, interchangeable, overcooked and onions missing. The fries are pretty good, but that's about all I can recommend. My husband ordered the the Fat Greek Gyro with 3 meats and I ordered the lamb beef one. When I arrived to pick up our order they were still making it. The person making the gyros was grilling the meat and it didn't look like she was separating the different kinds. And, it wasn't freshly shaved off the spit which didn't hit me until we got home. And isn't what they advertise. Also, our order included the chicken rice bowl and that person was really unhappy because the chicken was totally dried out. The spanakopita plate and Greek salad were good as well as the side of falafel. I would only go back if I was sure I would get fresh shaved meat. read more

For a Greek place it lacked any sort of spice or seasoning and felt below average. Also why is there old bay on the fries in the wraps? This is Greek food...very confusing and odd. I had dinner with friends at the Fat Greek last night. The service was excellent, hosts were wonderful and went out of their way to be accommodating. I ordered the vegetarian platter and really enjoyed it. The spanakopita was great as were lemon roasted potatoes. The tzatziki (appetizer)was delicious with fresh warm pita. It was a relaxing and fun evening. Highly recommend coming here. I plan to come back soon again. read more

A group of us came here for the first time after giving up with the food line at the Greek festival & we're glad we did. We were totally delighted & impressed with the delicious food & great hospitality. We were even treated to complimentary appetizers & more. We especially enjoyed the kabobs & exceptional sides, warm pita including a generously full fresh salad. All better than the festival.
