I took away a star because the worker didn't seem to know what was gluten free and even said he wished they had more options, and added that "we are a pita bread store after all." I totally get that, but especially when traveling, I want to be able to get food at places that the group I'm with stops at. I ended up getting the Sonoma chickpea salad since he thought it was safe, but the lack of clarity was frustrating. Still a nice spot overall. I tried something different only to discover this place is vegetarian. Lots of legumes as a source of protein. I had the sechuan mushroom and cabbage platter. It is the sandwich served without the bread but instead they offer 2 sides. I had an lentil curry salad and a chic peea eggplant salad. It was a small scoop of each salad. Rather skimpy! There were four mushrooms. Overall it was ok. I think it was served on a small plate which made it look smaller in size. The floor was bathroom tile. There were window from ceiling to floor in one side of the restaurant so it was bright. I would take it or leave it. There was nothing special to brag about. read more

The Nashville Hot Mushroom pita is SO good. Perfect amount of crunchy, spicy, and savory. My only small complaint is that the pickles make the pita a little soggy if you wait too long to eat it. I ordered online and picked up in store and the process was seamless. I ate at one of the booths. Clover has a little of a spare, industrial feel - concrete floors, sparse decoration, that kind of thing - so ambiance-wise it's not my favorite place to eat, and I think it's too bad that this location doesn't have any outdoor seating. But I will be back anyways while the Nashville Mushroom pita is still on the menu because I'm obsessed. read more

Their Chickpea Fritter is SO good. They don't skimp on the add ins (as seen in the pics) and they encase so much flavor in their falafel, pickled veggies and sauces. I've been to multiple Clover locations mostly on business trips and had the pleasure to sit down for lunch with family and friends this weekend at the renovated Harvard Square location. Usually a fan of the falafel sandwich which is fresher and tastier than other Boston competitors in plant based fast casual. On this trip we ordered the chicken fingers which were as close to "real" chicken as I've seen in a plant based restaurant in the US. Only small downside is that fries feel slightly on the soggy side. The service is very fast here also with surprisingly low lines even at busy times , and the university pennants on the tile wall are a nice touch also. The future is bright for Clover especially if there are technological improvements that make the plant based meats even more authentic . read more

I would absolutely love to bump it to 5 stars if the price could be more affordable. But the food is SO good!! I love the breakfast items are made to order. Service is always friendly. Ambiance is nice, a mix of group tables or individual stations. Indoor air ventilation always great in the morning hours (haven't been here in the afternoon to test it). Wonderful food. You don't need to be vegan or vegetarian to appreciate their flavorful, filling and nutritious dishes. Everything made from scratch and yet it's fast food! You'll save some familiar ingredients and a lot of things you may not have dried before but they're great. Had the mushroom popper platter today with two sides, had it twice previously as a great sandwich. Drive the rosemary fried and ask for a little extra rosemary. Awesome. All that various preparations and great sophistication and cooking. Most people call is clover but they're official name is clove of food lab and this is the experiment that's really working. I've been accustomed since they were just food trucks. The Rosemary fire fries are better staple since then. Now however, every time you come in is something new on the menu. Suggestions are often aligned with what's good in the garden that's being harvested right now. Their farmer partnerships and relationships are wonderful too. All the soups are good. Guarantee you will see things on their menu you haven't seen anywhere else. And over time I discover the only right people are really amazing vegetarian dishes of those people who eat nothing else. I haven't kept up with their many locations around the area, mainly Cambridge and Boston but also suburbs as far away as Burlington. read more

Loved this place as I was craving falafel. Theirs was a large serving in a large pita and good! Just would have preferred a little more falafel balls at the bottom of the (again large) pita. Falafel was nice and crispy and the accompanying vegetables (carrots, pickles, tomatoes and pickled cabbage) were plentiful. I especially liked the drinks they had which were unique & herbal. My daughter got a Thai basil beverage and I got a lemon rosemary. Both were VERY refreshing and not very sweet. They squeezed a lemon into my mine and both drinks had fresh herbs. Passed by this place while wandering about and doing tourist things at Harvard, it's really just across the street. There was a sign outside advertising their chickpea fritter, which caught our attention. It turns out that this is a great vegetarian joint! They just seemed a bit understaffed. There were 4 people making food in the kitchen, and only one person to make coffee/tea/juices and take customer orders. The service was still great, considering how busy they were with orders. A lot of customers seemed to take their food to go. Side note, but an "Order here" sign might be a good idea, as there were a few of us confused by the setup. The menu had a lot of healthy food and drink options, the carrot juice lemonade caught my eye, but I didn't try it this time. My friend ordered the sandwich that was advertised and I decided to try their BBQ seitan sandwich with an iced hibiscus tea. My sandwich was delicious and the bbq sauce had a nice sweet flavor. The hibiscus tea was also good and not too sweet, though my Caribbean side would've preferred it to be lol. They get bonus points for striving for sustainability, everything they hand you is compostable, like the sign says. Pro tip: The seats by the window are perfect for people watching! I have had food at Clover a couple times now. It is a great place to eat! The food is very natural and everything is compostable. 1. The Chickpea Fritter sandwich is very tasty and a good price. It has very tasty pickled red cabbage in it that makes it very delicious, and the sandwich is filling and satisfying. 2. The Minty lemonade is light and refreshing! I got it because I was thristy and craving something a little sweet. It hit the spot without making me feel I was indulging into true sweet treat realm. 3. The Popover is a great treat! The carrot marmalade made it indulgent, but the popover itself was very light and tasty. I made the mistake of saving mine for later and it got hard, but then I heated it in the toaster and it was still good. I'm coming back for another one. 4. The Tostones are very tasty, soft, and chewy. I love plantains so I enjoyed these greatly. I think they are tasty without the chipotle aoli, which is a tad salty, but the chipotle gives it another element too, and I got it on the side. 5. THe double chocolate cookie is very good. I think it was better than some fancy bakery cookies. It was chewy and thick and chocolately without being too sweet. It had good flavor! It had some sprinkles, which I are usually something I dislike, but the rest of the cookie was so good it didn't matter. YUM! read more

I'll admit I am always a bit pessimistic about places like this and I have had a few underwhelming experiences. Clover food lab however blew my mind completely. Right from the concept, it's story and the way they source their food seasonally and change up their menu blew me completely. I had the fried mushroom Nashville sandwich and it was so good. My wife got the chickpea plate and that was also really good. The food tastes super fresh and you really don't feel like you're at a place that has no meat options. First time visiting this restaurant. Four stars to the food, but 2.5 stars for the experience. The kitchen staff were pretty loud - shouting at each other in the open kitchen right next to dining tables. A dish was thrown into a sink in anger and res sauce splattered. The food items came one at a time. One bowl, followed a few minutes later by the drinks, a few minutes later came the sandwich, and finally the last bowl about five minutes after the first bowl. Pretty chaotic. The menu is simple with nice pictures but little in the way of text description. The host who met us was helpful with questions, though. The one thing most important to know is that the portions are larger than pictured on the menu. Everything that we got was at least half again as large as we expected. Not a bad thing but we ordered twice as many fries as we needed. The fries are shoestring, single-fried potatoes. That is to say they are essentially limpish home fries, not the kind of crisp double-fried fries at a regular fast food joint. The beet poke bowl, Mediterranean bowl, and the chickpea fritter pita sandwich were all good, though the sandwich was extremely "juicy", to the point dripping off the table and onto the floor before I realized it. Bottom line is that we'd be willing to go back, but might stand inside for a few minutes to make sure the staff are behaving before we order. read more

I don't love fake meats (seitan and tempeh) because the texture throws me off but I do love vegetables, so I was very curious when I heard that the new Nashville Hot Mushroom sandwich was coming out this week. Prices are a little high (I paid a little over $11 after tax) for a fully loaded sandwich that had ingredients stuffed into a normal sized pita bread. Weirdly I'm a huge fan of the impossible burger even though other fakes meats are not my cup of tea, but I don't know if I can justify a ~$13 sandwich (the impossible meatball one is the most expensive of all sandwiches). Thus, I was pleasantly surprised that this mushroom one just released because I am a fan of Nashville Hot Chicken. The sandwich was filling and had a really good flavor and texture profile. The mushrooms were slightly spicy and the pickles added nice acidity while the corn mayo had a sweet and creamy element. I also really enjoyed the batter on the mushrooms which make it super crispy and the mushrooms themselves are kind of stringy like how chicken is! It doesn't taste like chicken for sure but I liked that the texture was similar and I didn't miss the meat at all! I've had the chickpea fritter and fried oyster mushroom platters but they were just okay. I've also had the tomato soup which I do not recommend because it is super tiny and tastes just like canned soup. I'm hoping this special stays on the menu for a while because I will be a regular if it does. read more

New age restaurant. They have figured it out!! When you walk in, they have a digital menu and you place your order with an employee through an Ipad. EVERYTHING that is handed to you is either recyclable or compostable. It's an amazing concept. They have an open kitchen, so you can see your food and drinks being prepared. I ordered the fritter sandwich and it tasted so good with all the ingedients. It was basically a falafel sandwich. I wish I had one of these closer to home. Great job! read more

I went with the mezze plate- a bento box style tray filled with creamy hummus + 4 "snacks" from the rotating list. On this day- a spicy sweet potato salad, lentil salad, cauliflower and walnut salad, beet and broccoli salad. Perfect portions, plenty filling. I loved Clover when I lived in Boston and somehow, coming back after 4 years, it tastes it even better than I remember! The chickpea fritter is perfect and you should 100% get this. The falafel is delicious and balanced so well with everything else in it (carrots, cucumbers, pickles, pickled radish, etc). It is fresh and crispy and colorful and probably unlike anything you've had elsewhere. It converts people who judge vegetarianism into thinking maybe they could become vegetarian??? My friend fell in love with the chickpea fritter so we came here twice in one weekend trip. It's a LOT of food so be prepared. If it's too messy for you, you can get the sandwich as a platter (think Chipotle burrito vs burrito bowl), but I still prefer the sandwich because it's mixed better and each bite tastes so good. My friends have also enjoyed the egg and eggplant sandwich and the barbecue seitan sandwich, but none can beat the chickpea fritter. Another friend really likes this place for the beer because apparently it's the cheapest, best place to get a beer and relax outside. Perhaps you are that kind of person too, in which case I'd recommend the blood orange brew, which is a delicious summery beer. They let you sample the beers first too, which is great. read more

A delightful introduction to plant based food in Cambridge. There's a variety of options available- cold and warm foods and nice teas and coffee. Pros- 1. the staff is very helpful and kind. When taking my order the person behind the desk came around to help me - showing a photo of the option I was considering. 2. They do not skimp on the hummus. What a generous serving- no need to order extra 3. Eco-friendly: everything you are served is compostable! So you don't have to think about which bin you need to throw things in. Ooh, I like this place. A lot. When I was in high school, Harvard Square was one of my frequent places to hang, to be. I've been out of the area for about 20 years before moving back, and as the years went by, I made it over there less and less. By the time I returned recently, the last time I was in the neighborhood was... oh man, I don't even remember. 10 years ago? Anyhoo. A lot is still the same, but things have changed--something about Boston/Cambridge in general for me. I saw the Yelp reviews for Clover Food Lab and thought: this sounds on point. It was great: I have the chickpea fritter and ginger soda, and both were very tasty. I also am looking for healthier spots to add to my rotation of grab-and-go foods, and I am happy to add Clover to the list. The service was a lil on the slower side because they seemed totally slammed/understaffed--it was all good because of the nice/chill vibes. Wow. I'm honestly completely blown away by this place. I stopped by on a whim to get a nice refreshing drink. I ended up getting the Rhubarb soda along with the hummus snack. They were both amazing. The Rhubarb was a very flavor that I'd never had before, and the hummus and pita tasted very fresh and delicious. What blew me away the most was when I asked for more pita, they gave it to me free of charge! Such friendly people who go the extra mile to achieve your satisfaction. This place is super disorganized and the ordering system is terrible. Didn't help that the guy at the counter was useless too. I mean, I'm a tourist trying to get some food to eat. Could at least recommend your top items instead of giving me the stare down in complete silence. I ended up ordering the Oyster Sandwich, French Fries with Rosemary, and an iced tea. This is how it went down.... When the iced tea was ready, it was left on the counter. My order number or name was not called. Then the Oyster sandwich was ready. I was called up to the counter and the girl handed me my sandwich. It wasn't placed into a try or anything, just handed it over. I was wondering where I can place it since it was handed to me half exposed. I wanted to wait for my fries, which took another 5 minutes to get ready. So i left my sandwich sitting on a napkin while i waited for the fries. Fries weren't impressive either. No flavor and just some rosemary sprinkled on top. The Bridgewater was DELICIOUS. It contained breaded mushroom, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. These mushrooms reminded me of Asian crispy chicken, with soft velvet-like texture inside. All the flavors were delicious and on point. Definitely will be back to try other sandwiches (and platters). Came back to get the Bridgewater again, this time in a platter (I thought about trying a different flavor, but I just love the Bridgewater mushrooms way too much!). It was just as wonderful as I remembered from last time. The jalapeño cream cheese spread, pita bread, kale salad, and the sides of lentils and cauliflower were all delicious. We loved this place. First visit here, found it just by luck because from the outside you cant really tell what it is. When we found out it was sandwiches and plates we thought it would be a great stop for lunch. When we arrived it was pretty crowded at the tables but there was no line to order. That was also because instead of waiting in line there are employees ready to assist you and take your order. We ordered 2 egg and eggplant sandwiches and the employee was able to take our payment right there with his phone. He also let us sample some iced hibiscus tea, which was pretty tasty and super refreshing on a hot day like today. The food was ready super quick and it was very good. The ingredients tasted delicious and you could tell it was all super fresh. I dont know what bread they use but it's also very good. Fluffy on the inside with a little crunch on the outside. At the end of our meal, one of the employees brought us a sample of their Mexican Candy iced tea flavor and I gotta say it tasted just like the candy! A little sweet and a little hint of spicy! We have eaten at or carried out from Clover at least 15 times since July 2023, and we were there again today after a long voluntary "time out". As we were ordering I recalled receiving an email from Clover yesterday, 10/16/24, offering me $5 off of a BBQ sandwich or bowl. I found the email on my phone, and I and the friendly Clover clerk who greeted us tried to find the "code" for the $5 off my sandwich and my wife's bowl, going page after page on the web site (per the link in the email) and then on the app, trying to log in. We finally gave up and I paid the additional $5+$5 for our food and left. Ten minutes later, at home, the sandwiches were cold, although they tasted OK. So here is my latest assessment, part of which explains why we haven't been to a Clover in months. - The employees are friendly and work quickly. - The atmosphere for eating in the restaurant is cold and uninviting. - I'm not a fan of the shared tables, and with all hard surfaces sound reflects. - The bread is thick and tastes OK, although heating it would be an improvement. - The food seems cold even if we eat in the restaurant. Warming sandwiches in the oven briefly after making them could help. - The french fries are soft and nearly soggy, even if we eat at the restaurant; if we take them home they're inedible. - The web site is disorganized and confusing. - If you're trying to entice me with a coupon, just email me a one-time-use code or coupon, or have me enter my email address at the restaurant to ensure it's used only once. - Once before I tried to use a Clover coupon (for fries), and like today the clerk and I tried and gave up. - I dislike and resent being handed a tablet (held up to me by the clerk) for my electronic signature for a credit card payment and the screen asking me how much I want to tip. I tip at least 20% in a restaurant when someone serves us (at least $3-$4 per person), but when I go to a counter to pick up my food, regardless of where I eat it, I should not be asked to tip. - We liked Clover when we found it last year, but little annoyances and disappointments are remembered and add up. read more
