Went here for lunch with my colleagues today. Discovery Cafe is located closer to Kendal/MIT stop on the red line. The cafe is clean and has a lot of great options for sandwiches, drinks, desserts, etc. I ordered the California Sandwich which comes with Turkey, avocado, pepper jack cheese and sliced tomatoes. This place has reopened as Discovery Cafe Pizzeria and the calzones are great! They are very generous with the fillings. A large calzone for sure feeds between 3-5 people, it's presliced into 10 pieces! Also comes with a nifty high quality spatula for easy transfer to plates! Really nice staff and delivery guy! Delivery is free with $15 or greater order (which is essentially 1 large calzone). Love the old school delivery system. No service fees. Tip straight to the driver. I would say the only thing they could do better is more cheese in the filling but that's just me I love my mozzarella! read more

I called in an had delivery the old school way and the delivery guy was the nicest dude ever (especially compared to all the modern apps and food delivery services). Great coffee always quick service, they have a grab and go breakfast, grabbed a burrito this morning and it was delicious.it was sausage bacon egg and cheese with potatoes and a sauce that's a little spicy it was very good. Work lunches have to be quick and this place realizes that for sure. I got the California and it was soooo good. But the size of the sandwich was too big so I got two meals out of it. Hence, even though I'd like to say that the place is expensive, my food turned into 2 meals so half the price for each for me. Whenever I get a chance I will definitely go back and try the other items on their menu. Place is not too big. They have about 6 chairs on a high tip lined along the window wall and a couple other sit down tables. They also have a salad bar that houses EVERYTHING, a cooler with all the good beverages and the regular chips/cookies/brownies. I would not advice anyone to pick up the brownie. I got the cheesecake brownie and it was not good. It spoiled the taste of my sandwich in my mouth :(. One sandwich and a brownie cost me $12+. That's expensive according to me, but maybe that's just Boston/Cambridge pricing :/ read more

A very cheerful and friendly spot, The Discovery Cafe is right across from a major construction zone at the moment, just about a block away from the Cambridge Police station on Sixth Street. It's an easy walk from Kendall Square or the East Cambridge area. Open from 7 am to 5 pm, you can choose to eat inside, out on the patio at one of a few small tables or just bring your meal back to your home or your desk. Good for thinking ahead to dinner, too. Take out dinner is often very welcome around my house. There's a large salad bar in the middle of the room that features lots of fresh ingredients, including meats and fresh pasta salads. It's sold by weight- $6.99 a pound. You can also get a really great variety of custom made sandwiches, including breakfast sandwiches. There are a lot of meats offered in these robust sandwiches, including several chicken options, roast beef and salami, but if you are a meat free person like me, you can grab a wrap stuffed with delicious hummus and tabouli. These are all made to order. I have also tried the Kendall Square, which is brimming with roasted vegetables and served on a wrap. They offer a variety of different hot sauces for you to spice up your meal with. Love that. Along with the sandwiches there are daily specials. An assortment of soups and hot meals, including mac and cheese, stuffed peppers and/or kabobs may greet you on any given day. And the pizza flies out the door. Snacks, fruit cups, pasta salads and bottled juices are kept in a case near the bagels and muffins. This is a help yourself kind of a place. The staff is really pleasant, and they take Level Up. They also promote their catering business, which I have never tried, but if the food is as good as my sandwiches have been, I'd be willing to give it a go. I suspect most of their customers come on foot or by bike, as parking is not an easy thing on this busy street corner. They are not open on Saturdays and Sundays, so they are clearly focusing on the ever increasing number of office workers in the area. This is a nice little spot for those of us who are living and working in the Kendall Square area or for people who need to visit Police Headquarters nearby. read more

Went here for lunch and had a chicken sandwich. The place is small but offers a good assortment of sandwiches and a salad bar. I found the ordering process a bit slow and a bit confused. I placed my order and he started making a sandwich which I assumed was mine. Then he called out a different customer. Found that a bit odd. I was there when it just started getting busy, so I think if they were real busy at midday it could be more interesting, not in a good way. My sandwich was good. Plenty of food for one. However the chicken breast was cold and it was a hot sandwich. It only gets heated via the panini press. Didn't really bother me, but I expected the chicken to be hot also. The staff was friendly in the short time I was there. They also have outdoor seating which was nice the day I was there. I think it could easily be a bit better with a few tweaks but overall I was pleased. I would try them again. 3.5 stars is probably more accurate. read more

This place is a hidden gem. They have such good iced coffee which is hard to find these days, not to mild and not to strong, just right. They have really yummy breakfast sandwiches as well and fruit and yogurt parfaits. I haven't had their sandwiches or salad bar yet but the menu looks delicious. This place is my Favorite for breakfast and lunch. I am a regular and they are amazing! They open early at 6am. They make great comfort meals as well as salads, sandwiches and new specials everyday. The ribs, fried chicken, lasagna are awesome there too. They just have specials for everything. The staff is amazing and sweet and I know everyone so shot out to Pat and Carlos because you guys are Rock! Food is consistent, and there are a lot of good options. However, the same girl continues to not listen to food orders (ALLERGIES, putting things on the press) when my co-worker and I go in twice a week for months now. Luckily the other woman jumps in and helps out but this is unacceptable in the food industry and actually very dangerous. read more

Not much to say, they seemed annoyed by my presence. Some of the staff was friendly but I felt alienated. I tried their Buffalo chicken wrap and it was very boring. Portions were reasonably sized but it didn't matter because I didn't want to finish my food. The tables were fairly dirty which I didn't understand because they were over staffed. I come here to get my breakfast and lunch often because it's right next to my job. Their food is mediocre however they do have a good salad bar but you have to come before 1:00PM to get the good stuff. The people who work here always put a smile on my face, super friendly! Whenever I am in the area, I always go here! Why? Their Crimson sandwich is amazing, really large sized sandwich, made with roast beef, caramelized onions, sharp cheddar and instead of horseradish, I get mayo. The perfect sandwich to satisfy an appetite by a construction guy like me. read more

Stopped by for lunch and tried the California turkey sandwich. Good amount of meat and good size sandwich. If you're not starving half a sandwich might be enough for lunch. They also have 1-2 hot food specials that looked decent. I will definitely give this place another try in the future.
