This is a solid place and a good choice for a group. I came with a large group (14 or so folks) and the menu offered good variety to satisfy varied tastes and needs. I personally ordered the sweet potato gnocchi. It was a generous portion and I left satisfied. Folks around me ordered drinks and mocktails, and everyone seemed to enjoy the them. Our water glasses were kept filled which I really appreciated. The service could have been more attentive. When we asked about the check and if it would be possible to split it up, the response we got made it clear that it would be a major pain to do that, so we just handled it ourselves via Venmo etc. I'd give it 3.5 if that were an option. read more

BUT the bartender upstairs completely saved the experience. She was insanely energetic, chill, and somehow still super attentive even with the place absolutely slammed. Stopped in on a weeknight around 7 pm with no reservation and were able to get seated downstairs in the basement/bar section which was really nice. The ambiance was dark with wall lights which made the vibe comfortable. My friend and I ordered a couple drinks (sangria & espresso Martini) and the drinks were amazing and the service was super friendly and quick. We ordered the poutine, mussels, and a salmon dish and the food was amazing and we ended up staying until 11:30 pm. The Abbey is open until 2 AM so there were still a lot of people inside when we left. Would definitely come back and bring others here. read more

Was looking for late night food and this place popped up. Nice pub/bar vibes right along Mass Ave which is always fun. Started with an order of wings which were really good, paired with their blue cheese--yum. I ordered the burger for my entree which was just okay, a little dry. I did like the fries. I tried a few bites of the steak entree and that was good! Sangria was okay, probably should've gotten a beer instead, but there's always next time! For 1am food I enjoyed it...but wasn't blown away, except by the wings. I'd like to come back and try some of their other things. read more

I've been going here with my grandma since college and I don't have any complaints! Food is good and service is always on point. They have specials so you can always get some variety in their food. At this point, I've tried everything on their menu.. Some of my favorites: -deviled eggs -burger add duck egg and bacon: the duck egg is a game changer trust me on this! You can also sub the fries for salad if you'd like. -bison bolognese: they use fresh pasta, you can definitely taste the difference. The sauce is to die for, so tasty! -eggs Benedict: they recently started doing brunch again and I'm a sucker for any eggs Benedict. Their home fries were delicious; crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. -pan roasted cod with potato: they always cook the cod so perfectly. We made early dinner reservations at The Abbey to have a birthday celebration. We are so glad that we did! We ended up with a high top table in the downstairs seating area which was comfy. The staff was quick to engage with us, make suggestions, and take our order. We really enjoyed the chicken confit lollipops. So super tender and tasty. Wish there was one more in the order. I had the pork schnitzel special. It was amazing. Perfectly breaded and piping hot. Came with some yummy fingerling potatoes. We also had the bison bolognese come to the table. It was hearty and delicious! An order of gnocchi was our final large plate order. It was creamy and super tasty. Since it was a birthday dinner, we had to have a dessert. Came here for drinks before dinner on a Tuesday evening and the place was decently busy with several seats taken. The bartender was really friendly and took our orders with ease as well as served us water pretty efficiently. He made drinks quickly as well and everything was pretty good. The sangria I got was super tasty, fruity, and relatively light. The food we saw other folks getting looked pretty good, but we didn't have time to try it. I've never in my life experienced what I experienced tonight. The bartender this evening was incredibly hostile, rude and chaotic. It started when I ordered a French 75 with tequila instead of gin (great remix btw!) and he refused to give me the tequila of my choice because he "wasn't taking down top shelf tequila for this" It devolved further from there and so I had to curse him out for being so rude. Even though the waitress came out to apologize after I walked outside, his actions should not have been condoned through the silence of everyone inside when he was being an asshole. His language also revealed his racism, but that was the least surprising bit. Forget better service, just be better humans. read more

My food was great - a special with chicken drumsticks and Jalapeno Mac and cheese. All of the staff were super polite and helpfull. I tried the cocktail that was a chai tequila cocktail - was Ok but wouldn't order that one again. My tween had the grilled cheese and ate it (that is a pretty good review for a tween). The woman behind the bar was wearing spandex. She look like she had come from the gym and she had quite a sharp tongue and was rude my cousin simply wanted to use the bathroom and she pulled the bouncer into it by making him bang on the door until we left , the folks at the bar were shocked at her behavior. I absolutely loved this place! I spotted it out on an early afternoon and decided to have some drinks before continuing my day exploring the neighborhood. I sat at the bar and started with a festive holiday rendition of an Old Fashioned. It was quite delightful and really brought out the December vibes quite effortlessly. Right after, I went with a hot bourbon based version of what seemed like an adults version of a hot toddy. I lament not being able to remember the actual drink names although I can affirm they were super creatively labeled. The outdoor patio was heated as the weather was quite chilly yet manageable for what the NE is usually experiencing during these cooler months. The place had a very relaxed atmosphere associated to it and I really enjoyed my visit here while in Cambridge. after many positive experiences here over the years, i find myself pretty disappointed in this meal. - mediocre Bolognese, very sweet for some reason - vegetables in salad were not particularly fresh - hot tea served lukewarm, which prevented steeping - bottled lime juice, rather than fresh, in cocktail - they don't have lattes even though they are on the menu? - no salt or pepper shakers the PEI mussels were pretty good; the service was fast. my guests and i were let down by this apparent decrease in quality. read more

That is a serious thing to falsely accuse someone of in front of a bar full of decent people. Only a blind person would mistake us for teenagers, and only a drunk person would somehow make up that I was slipping her sips of my Scotch. I seriously think he was not sober - at first he handed me a checkbook with someone else's credit card in it (!!) The other patrons looked nonplussed.
