I love this place! I did the Jingle Bell Run last year and I'm gearing up for it tomorrow. After last year's run I was so impressed with the place that I became a semi-regular. The "Pub-Style Wings" are fantastic and the Mixed Grill with steak, chicken, and sausage is as good as you're going to find in this area. We had a co-worker retiring last month and I went in and spoke to Joe the manager about having the party here. Joe was great and set us up with everything we needed for the party. Everyone had a great time and the food was fantastic as usual. I take my wife here several times a month and we're never disappointed. This is the place for great food and drink in Somerville! Awe man Laura is the absolute best. She put me on to the best wings, the best days to go there. Wed trivia, Thurs Karaoke. She works both those nights. Listen no lie it was uncomfortable going in there cause the demographic but it's so welcoming and again Laura is in there talking to you like she's hosting you at her house. Now the food wasn't what I was expecting. But those wings omg, they are so good. Cooked to perfection, great sized wings and no saggy skin. I usually only eat breaded wings but these are something else and that honey hot sauce. Best part is we had several drinks, tons of food and it was under 80$ so price is right. Let me preface this by saying I never write yelp reviews. I don't really usually have high expectations for bars I go to, I'm not a "craft beer" drinker or know a lot about alcohol in general... i'm kinda a noob. However, I totally get the feeling of feeling victimized and getting talked down to. Upon entering this establishment, I, along with four of my friends, were asked to immediately show our IDs when we inquired about "trivia night." I understand the legal implications surrounding IDs and how Massachusetts establishments are super sensitive to this. We show the bartender our IDs and she seemed friendly. We then take a seat and are told they're waiting on more people for trivia. Then, when we take a seat and talk. The waitress comes over and immediately asks for our IDs again, even though we already showed the bartender. We then inform her that we already showed the bartender and she then has to check with the bartender. This is a small establishment and the bartender did take her time when looking at all five of our IDs, so not quite sure how the waitress missed that. At this point though i'm not super mad... just feel unwelcomed. We then inquire again about trivia and the waitress says "we are not doing trivia." I tell her that the bartender said we might have trivia depending on the number of people and she says "you will be waiting a long time." She then asks if we want menus, the establishment does not have drink menus come to find out- a missed opportunity for a "bar" in my opinion. Again, we say okay we will just have a menu. She brings menus for us to share and then takes two drink orders. My main problem was how I felt as if I was treated, the group I went with had similar thoughts. The waitress presented herself as cold, unwelcoming to the younger crowd, hated trivia for whatever reason, and seemed like she was "over us" before we even spoke to her. We were nothing but polite to her, but we all left feeling worse, as if it was somehow our fault that we "appeared" young and wanted to play trivia. The bartender was apologetic about the trivia, this review is not about her. She presented herself as friendly and took our IDs for legal purposes. The waitress we had was condescending and plain mean. There was no effort on her behalf to make us feel as though we were "welcomed" in this establishment. I understand that people have "off" days and I myself struggle with this sometimes, but I believe your job as a waitress shouldn't be projecting your own shortcomings/anger onto others. read more

Service is a hit or miss, I've sometimes waited 20-30 minutes to place in a order when busy. And it's often due to regulars who come in and place orders ahead of me. Today, there were a lot of dissatisfied customers from the service due to poor attention to the back room. Still, prices are fair and during a slower day I've found it to be a good place to catch a game. The wings are really good (grilled, then fried) and Monday wing nights are a good deal - though a bit less so now that prices increased. Haven't been this up and down since that freak seesaw accident of 1985. Tanglewood Elementary hasn't been the same since. The raved-about wings are pretty outstanding. Fried, sauced and finished on the grill, the tacky, carbonized char gives a little complexity to the beloved bar snack. Monday nights (and possibly others?), they sling those chiggin limbs for a paltry 35¢ a piece. Not bad compared to normal prices, but Magoun's meaty 10¢ darlings and the grand ol' XHXC (extra hot, extra crispy) Red Hat pups for the same dime have more pull when I'm cravin' quality cluckers on the cheap. I'm confused. Can someone explain to me how 2 liquor drinks, 2 pints, and 2 appetizers only costs $25? My vodka soda was exceptionally strong, and the tater tots hit the spot. (Not overly impressed with the onion rings but really WHO CARES IT IS SO CHEAP.) The music was also fun. Lots of TVs. An intoxicated neighbor at the bar kept telling my boyfriend how beautiful I am. I'm not a big beer drinker so I got the Apple Cider which was pretty good and cheap! This is a great place for wings and fries as well. The wings were amazing! Nothing like the ones I have had before, instead of frying the wings before saucing them, they sauce them and then grill them. They tasted amazing! I would come here just to get the wings!! Really good bar food here and good prices! I went before 9PM and saw families eating there too. There were also people studying with laptops at some of tables which was kind of weird, but shows that this is a good hangout AND study location if that's what you want? I came here o couple weeks ago on a Tuesday night,i was asked for proof of age at door and was also told by the manager who carded me that this was Tufts Tuesday and that most likely within the hour the bar would become jammed with students all with one thing in mind and that is to drink and dance.I asked if i could get a quick burger and beer and be on my way as i just got off work and wanted too get home,within 10 minutes a got a delicious Texas burger and my draft Stella in the chalice glass was cold and fresh.Great bar and by the time i was leaving the students were on their way.Will go back again. read more

For over a year now my co-worker has praised The Pub as having the best wings in Boston. Whenever I complained about terrible wings he would mention The Pub and I would make a mental note to try it out. Well this past weekend I stopped in and tried a plate of their wings and a few beers. The entire experience was a 10. The wings were flavorful, crispy, and reasonably priced. They were my favorite wings out of any spot I've tried in the city so yes they are the best wings in Boston in my opinion. The bar itself has NFL Sunday Ticket (A nice perk) and TVs all around. They have a good selection of beers in bottles while they stick to the basics on draft. The service was impeccable with the bartender providing a bowl for my bones and plenty of napkins, when I ran out he brought more over! This seemingly average looking bar really impressed me. If you walk past this place after midnight, you're probably not going to be enticed to go in. You're going to see loud bros smoking outside, smoking and yelling into their cell phones, or at each other, or at their girlfriends as they leave in a car without them. If you're the kind of person who would be attracted to this place from the dudes hanging outside you're probably not reading this review to pick your bar hangout. You're already here because the beers are cheap and the Sox are on the TV and they're playing "Who Let the Frog Out?" on the jukebox and that's awesome (For the ignorant fools reading this, that's a Crazy Frog parody. You're welcome. And yes, this really played when we were in here). If you show up around 6 on a Friday, though, you're going to get a totally different impression than you do from the outside at midnight. You're going to find a friendly staff, who'll be kind to you if you're embarrassed to order a grilled cheese because it's on the kids menu. You'll hear "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits twice in a row and that'll be more awesome than you're usually willing to admit. I did not sample the legendary wings at the Pub, but I did get a cheeseburger and fries, which were definitely decent. All the food here would best be described as decent, except for 2 things which were very nice: 1) the service, and 2) the price. My wife and I had, between us, 2 meals and probably way too many beers, and spent less than $45 total, including a generous tip. I was always nervous about coming into this place, but now that I've gone, I think I'll be back. "The shit" just doesn't do it for me, and I can't really dig anything out of the train wreck that is my brain today.) They are off several things: the chart, the chain, the page, the hook, you name it, these wings are off it. What they're not off, however, is my PLATE. They're fried, then grilled. They're served with real blue cheese. They give you extra hot sauce for dipping. ON MONDAYS THEY ARE ONLY THIRTY FIVE CENTS. Do not go gently into that good night. Go screaming, on fire, with a six-dollar pitcher of Natty Lite, holding a plate of these magical chicken morsels. The honey wings are just straight up made of fairy magic. I honestly don't think they're even real - they're a dream baby birthed by Beyonce after she coupled with a poultry farmer, and then cross pollinated with organic clover honey. Unreal. If you feel like getting sexually harassed by men twice your age with half of your intelligence, this is the place to go. While most of the staff and patrons are completely harmless, the owner himself, along with his middle aged posse, find no shame in interrupting your conversations to provide a perverted comment over and over again. The first time this happened, I thought it was just because he was drunk but to my surprise, it happens sober too. Not only is your conversation interrupted, but it continues to happen every 10 minutes or so. Take a hint much? I tend to stay away from this bar based on the above mentioned but because a friend enjoys it, I make my way in here and there. I've been here for the craziness that is Ye Olde Saint Paddy's Day. And you just gotta embrace it. I've been there to watch the BIG games, I've been there on a quiet Sunday night. I love their fries. They are like McDonald's. Thin, salty and delicious. I also love their potato skins. I believe it's topped with a Cheez-Whiz type creation and it works. I was glad they don't have crinkle cut fries, as those fries depress me. I have seen them around in a few places lately and it makes me sad. There has been rowdy bro dudes here, woo girls, little kids running around (i.e. unsupervised 3 year olds) but somehow I keep coming back here. I think it's the fries that seals the deal. I stopped in here by chance after the Tufts homecoming game, and I got to witness what part of the college experience I missed while I spent my nights partying up off campus in Boston. The Pub caters to the spoiled kids of Tufts, and the crowd that day was definitely rowdy - to be expected of course! I didn't get to eat any of the famed wings, but I had quite a few beers at the bar, and the bartenders were really attentive despite the large crowd.
