Latke Sour (Maccabee Bar Pop Up)
Anna F.

Terrible experience here. Although the bartenders executed the Chanukah pop up cocktail recipes well, the place left much to be desired. It was crowded, and people were lingering a while at tables and at the bar. There was no bathroom there- only one in the hotel, on another level. The manager not only did not honor a Yelp check in offer, but was condescending about it. But worst of all, we were served an oyster that had gone bad. Top most disgusting food experience. Thankfully, only briefly tasted it (awful, fecal), and did not eat it.

two cocktails on a black table

Great drinks, great service, better than average food. We went here because of a promotion so it was a very windy and rainy Monday night and the only patrons appeared to be guests at the hotel. The interior of the hotel is beautiful and the bar is very swanky. I like that they have a corner booth because it was date night. The service is next level-- like a $$$-$$$$ restaurant. The drinks were very good and appropriately strong. The food was the only area of improvement needed: the lamb meatballs were a bit cold and not fresh-- they looked like they had been sitting out and microwaved. However the lobster bisque, croque monsieur, and creme brûlée were all five-star. They have outdoor seating, but we sat inside due to the mini hurricane. Will definitely be visiting again!

Espresso martini, left. White Russian, right.
Raymond Y.

Stopped by for a drink with a friend after dining elsewhere. We ordered the espresso martini and White Russian. The espresso martini was not good because the coffee tasted stale, old. The White Russian was better. Ambience is dark. It was a Friday night and it mostly empty. Vibe might feel better when there's more people and energy in the room, otherwise it felt like a somber lounge.

There is literally fun everywhere you look from the panda stuffed animal riding a tiger on the wall to the hilarious shrek pillow. Coming right when they open I was able to see these things that you would likely not see in the evening. But to be fair I came right when they opened since it is first come first serve. A majority of the drinks were more on the savory side which was very interesting like "may all your bacon burn" with bacon bites at the top of the drink. The drinks my friend had were all stunning with the use of egg yolk to elevate the drink. We ended the evening by walking over to Bow Market and trying Viet Citron which was so DANG GOOD my gosh. The to go orders were insane but looks like they are doing very well despite recently opening in. I got the grilled lemongrass pork ribs bowl and youtiao and the side sauce was so good. The ribs were all very meaty. It looks small but I was surprised how full I was after having it. Nice night of drinks and food. It was such a cute hidden area, and I was already excited before we even got to the place. We headed upstairs into the bar, and the vibe was perfect. It's small, cozy, dimly lit, with vibey music playing. Since it was our first time, we were a little confused at first, but the waiter was super kind and walked us through everything. I ordered the Elly the Elephant and my friend got the Laughing Gull, and we both really enjoyed our drinks. One thing I thought was really nice is that they allow you to grab food from the surrounding restaurants and bring it in to eat there. We didn't end up doing that, but we did get the charcuterie board they had. It came with cheeses, crackers, and some fruit, and you can add meats for $10, which we opted out for. I will say I was a little disappointed by the fruit portion. The menu mentioned fresh fruit, so I expected more than three thin orange slices and one sliced strawberry. HOWEVER, when I asked for more strawberries, our waiter kindly brought out a whole bowl for me, which I really appreciated. We stayed for about two hours, and as the night went on the place definitely got more crowded, so we headed out. Overall, this is such a cute and cozy cocktail bar. I'll definitely be back when the weather is warmer to try the other drinks and restaurants in the market.

We did have to leave the table within an hour though, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you want to stay longer and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. Made me a little anxious bc you have to put a credit card down and my friend is flakier than a KFC fried chicken bucket. Funny enough - she beat me there. She had already been on a date and was excited to go back. She's gluten free and we had plenty of options - even the fried chicken bites or whatever name they are. I thought the cucumber were phenomenal. Almost ate the whole thing myself. As for the drinks, for me, it's another place where the ingredient list is too complicated. I hate having to google 3 out of 4 of things in my drink - the 4th being the type of liquor in it.. they do have a blurb at the end to explain what the drinks going to be like. I went with the one that's supposed to be close to a margarita. Unfortunately it came with bubbles which wasn't noted on the menu. I can't have bubbles :( which is a bummer bc they're so fun - something about infusing with their own CO2? Yo no se pero the bartender was lovely and gave me another beverage with no extra charge. I also ordered the non-alcoholic old fashioned which was quite nice and pretty light. We ordered the cheesecake bc it's gf (house but they have other flavors) and holy hell.. should I eat cheesecake? No. Did I keep going back for more after I said only a couple bites? Duh. It's from a local spot - Korean Mama. FAVORITE item of the night. When making the reservation I noted that we were going for a birthday and the bartender brought us over some small pours of sake to celebrate since they heard us talking about it earlier. I may not rush back, but my friend has been back twice already.
