Great pub and good vibes. The staff is always kind and never rushes you. Along with the other customers that come in, they are easy going and strike up conversations. While the menu does have good looking items, I must admit I have only come in for beer and wings. The wings here are the best around. They are crispy and have the right amount of sauce on them. Oh my gosh this place was great! It gets packed on the weekend, so definitely come by earlier in the week or before 6 on the weekend! The staff are great, super friendly. Old time watering hole with an impressive beer list and specials like 50-cent wings on Mondays. Beer: They almost always have a few Hill Farmstead selections on tap, so that's fine by me. Wings: I had the Buffalo and enjoyed the sauce a lot. Nice heat, bumpy texture, non-traditional (a little less vinegar than typical). Very moist inner meat but only faint crispness on the exteriors. I'm not sure if they're fried; might be baked. "Friendly Melt": Their version of a patty melt is browned on the outside, tender on the inside, and flowingly juicy on two separate visits (once ordered medium rare and once medium). Big tender onions, tasty dressing, and very good bread. A possible "problem" for some is that the griddled bread slices are so much bigger than the patty, but it's not like the patty isn't living up to its end of the bargain. Cut the thing into two half sandwiches and eat each half starting at the cut side and working toward the other end. When you run out of meat, put the bread down and eat the other half the same way. Very enjoyable. Reuben: Thick cut corned beef and good complementary condiments on the same good griddled bread, and everything inside goes all the way to the edges. Also enjoyable even with the meat not as piled high as some. Fries: Big steak fries that are frozen, not hand cut, but a very solid rendition for non-hand-cut. read more

Please never change. the decor is perfect (big tavern! many screens for you to watch your games on!), the rotating beer selection - personal favorites include trillium dot ave, sloop juice IPA, ten fiddy stout, hofbrau pils... the (vaguely) irish staff are fast and friendly, and My God I Love The Food. i have never been unsatisfied with anything i have had here. my bf and i troop here from southie and my friends from allston to do trivia here (Which is all on paper) and this trivia is difficult! by the way you should get here around 7:00 for the 8:00 trivia.. the tables fill up fast. we love coming here. I love this place so much i wish i could inject it in my veins. it is one of the ideal hanging-with-friends, grabbing-a-pint, yummy-dinner-and-beer establishment. i feel like i get transported to another place and another time when i come in here. i am a olde magouns saloon ambassador. i tell everyone i can about this place. i love this place so much. my only comment is please make the trivia a little more Gen Z girlypop so i can win. read more

Magoun's saloon is a combination of great food, great, drinks, great service, and great location. What more can you ask for? I had the black jack burger, some nachos, and a couple beers. The beer is fantastic, it's hard to choose. The burger was great and the nachos were perfectly cheesy and messy. Lots of TVs for whatever games are on. Every year from September 15 to October 15 they Octoberfest with German food and beer , in addition to their usual menu and it is fantastic. The bar has a feel of a pub in Ireland in that if you order a Hofbrau beer you get it in a Hofbrau mug, if you order a Warsteiner you get it in a Warsteiner mug. In short, the presentation is awesome! Definitely give this place a try any time of the year, but definitely during Octoberfest. You will not be disappointed. read more

Ol Magoun's Saloon has a special place in my heart. Though I'm not a regular, I've had so many good memories here. Me & my bestie would come here every time after a hike, came through with various roommates over the years, did trivia with coworkers, I remember once I came by-myself and the bartender made me a cocktail to try & was on the house. I love this place. Food is great, large beer selection (though I don't drink beer anymore, the beer drinkers I've brought have always been impressed), every Oktoberfest there's a special menu. They do brunch, but to date, I still haven't tried. My food recommendations are the poutine (add the runny egg), the veggie burger (wo bun), and the pretzel app. Everything is good here though. They also play sports on the tv. Yay sports. Very pub-like environment. Price is reasonable. Drinks + food tend to average around $30 per person. Came to watch footy and eat brunch. They were playing 2 footy matches on big screens which was great and the brunch menu is extensive. I had the corned beef hash bennie, and while the corned beef was quite good, there wasn't a lot of it. The overall plate was alright but I didn't finish it, found it to be on the blander side even with added hot sauce. The bloody mary was bad. They add a ton of what tastes like pepperoncini pickle juice and while I'm usually a fan of pickle juice in a bloody, this was not drinkable. Interior was dark Irish pub vibe and service was pretty quick. I would come back for a pint and footy but skip the brunch. read more

Wish we had pubs like this on the West Coast. So warm and cozy on the inside with a full bar and solid food. Ventured in with my family on a bitterly cold and snowy night and tucked into a tasty chicken schnitzel and a frosty Guinness. It turned out to be trivia night. The trivia table was right behind us and we struck up a pleasant conversation with Nick the trivia host. He was super cool and very nice to my daughter who insisted on putting little notes in his answer box. He handled it all like a pro and we loved it. I love being a Californian and we do a ton really well. But, lots of places make you feel outta place when you bring kiddos. We never felt that for even a split second here. The saloon is definitely one of the Irish pubs ever. Nothing remarkable, but nothing that's particularly bad.

Its a shame that the staff here is so awful. Their 50¢ wing deal is worth it if you can stand the rudest service I have ever endured. I was here with my family and friends and tried to place an order for food 3 different times and the server neglected to fill our order. Finally after the 4th visit to the table where our server stepped on our service dog, he took our order. After placing the order, he commented that it was a big order and said they do not do to go containers. Each time I have been here, I have been ridiculed by the staff and had my order refused because it was too big of an order. The customer is never right here. Additionally, having come here when the deal had run out, our table ordered other options like the boneless wings and the pretzel with bratwurst. The pretzel was tiny and the boneless serving was abysmally small and the expensive extra bratwurst was clearly just a hot dog. If you can handle being treated awfully, the wings are a good reprieve to the service. read more

I've lived in East Somerville for 14 years but I've never been to Olde Magoun's Saloon in Magoun Square. I ordered Steak and Cheese egg rolls to go and I was pleasantly surprised when I got home. The order has 2 ample egg rolls sliced in half so you get 4 pieces. Could easily make a meal with a side salad . It can also be a shareable appetizer. The outer was nice and crunchy and the inner shaved steak and cheese was cooked to perfection. Seasoned very well with a hint of heat. Kind of like hots on a steak and cheese sandwich. I will definitely return to try other items. I just sat at the bar but the waiter was delightful. read more

Music is a bit loud, but food is decent and seating is comfortable. I went for the Caesar salad, which was mixed well with the dressing, had the right amount of grated cheese, and overall generally was rather delicious. The pork quesadillas were decent as well, though I found the pork flavoring having too much vinegar for my taste. The tortillas were well-browned, not overly dry. Old Magoun's Saloon is a popular neighborhood bar frequented by locals! I was there on a weekday night for dinner and, my gosh, the place was super crowded. I think all the tables were filled up. The place offers typical American food...the menu is large...so one's bounded to find something they like! I had a chance to get the Shrimp po boy sandwich and was quite happy with my dish. There were plenty of shrimps that went well with aioli sauce and the accompanied onion rings were more than sufficient to fill you up for the meal. What I liked was the service. The bartenders who took care of me were really pleasant. They were a bit busy taking care of all the customers since it was a busy/packed night but they really did work as a team to try their best. Cozy and lively brewpub with an extensive list of draft and bottled microbrews. We were happy the existing guests at the bar made room for us to sit down. The bartender was happy to share a couple of samples before I selected an IPA- which was unfortunately a short pour (my pet peeve) which I observed was the norm here. A very limited wine list had to suffice for my wife. We shared a short rib quesadilla- nothing special and the crunchy chicken sandwich which was tasty because of the way the chicken was fried. The food portions were generous and delivered quickly. I just wish the bartenders would realize that serving beer with a huge head is like delivering 2/3 of a cheeseburger. read more

I came here once with family for brunch because we got a Nift certificate. We were rather disappointed with the service and food. I ordered the french toast which I ended up sending back because it wasn't properly cooked and was soggy from raw egg all the way through. I decided to just eat at home rather than get a re-fire because it was going to take too long. The other meals at our table were okay - nothing memorable. We probably will not come back here ever again. Update: The owner sent me a rude message. I was amused considering French toast is listed as one of their popular dishes on the yelp page.
