This place was on my list to try for some time now. We stopped by on Friday during happy hour. The happy hour deals were quite good. We got 2 tacos for $5 and a plate of nachos for $8. We were required to get drinks with happy hour food but they were generous enough to let us get soft drinks instead of alcohol. The tacos were small but worth the $5 price. The nachos were also good but had a slight aftertaste that I didn't enjoy. Overall, the service was really nice and the interior was decorated colorfully. I live one block away so I wanted to try this place since they have great reviews and I'm an avid Mexican food lover. HORRIBLE in every way!! Ordered one wet burrito carne Assada to go and omg it's so small, amlost no meat, questionable freshness and not tasty. The opposite of what you would expect for Mexican food. In top of that they are too greedy. They didn't have any habanero salsa so asked them to put any spicy sauce, checked my bill and I saw that they charged me 50cent and when they gave me the food I saw no sauce on the side. Asked where it was she said inside. Holy Mole! Stopped in for lunch with the family. I didn't even feel like Mexican (for once) but we were looking for a family friendly place and we sure found it. We were seated immediately by a friendly server. We started with chips and salsa and guacamole and Micheladas. Delish. Then moved on to pork/mole tamales, verde tamales, steak nachos, and tostada de tingas (delightful flavor and crunch!) and enchiladas, then ended with churros. Everything was so yummy. I don't know why I haven't been here before. I had a fantastic meal/experience! I've had the verde enchiladas and the chicken mole!! The flavor of this mole was unique and amazing! The enchiladas are also fantastic. It's impressive how complex the flavors are here. You wouldn't necessarily know this by the pictures, but trust me they are blowing other places out of the water with the complexity of their flavors. This goes for the salsa as well!! Good af. taqueria cantina down the street doesn't even compare to this! The service here is also excellent!! They are attentive and super friendly. I honestly don't typically love Seattle's Mexican food, as what I grew up with in Colorado is sooooo different. But, I can get fully behind this place! Awesome Mexican food way up North! In a late evening during our visit to Seattle we found Villa Escondida and decided to walk in for a drink and a meal. We sat at the bar, ordered a couple of beers and tacos. The beer was cold and good, but the tacos were awesome! They were so good that we decided to come back the next morning after the young lady who was behind the bar told us that they serve a mean brunch. The next morning, to our surprise, we found the same young lady working the floor! She told us that the restaurant was owned and operated by the same family so all of them were putting in as many hours as was necessary to help the business succeed. I didn't expect to have great Mexican food while I was in Seattle but I did at Villa Escondida. My daughter and I stopped here to grab a bite to go and the ladies that helped us were very nice and our order was ready in about fifteen minutes. The chips were hot and fresh and my quesadilla was loaded with very tasty shrimp. My daughter loved her food too and usually she's a picky eater. This place isn't too far from Pikes Place Market so if you want to walk a few blocks to get some killer Mexican food I would recommend that you do. read more

Pictures don't do this place justice. It's a local find, Latinx family owned, and operated. They are, hands down, the best fish Tacos I've eaten. The fish is fresh, flaky, and cooked just right, there aren't too many competing flavors, and the tortilla is just the right amount of done. Also had the Picante margarita, which was amazing! My friend did the classic. These are deceptively strong, just the way we like it. Road tripping through WA, we ate fish tacos every where, and they were poor copies! We tried Villa Escondida at the beginning of our 10 day road trip, and came back for a night, JUST to eat here again because we spent the last 9 days dreaming of these tacos! We came here after seeing such high ratings on Yelp. This used to be an old bar/club I think... Forgot which one. We happened to come in during happy hour. I ordered their beef tacos... I got three for like $5! It was on their happy hour menu... Which, by the way, rocks. Chips and salsa cost a few bucks, but that's expected given their prime location. I've had better. Much better. This place is just a so-so option for Mexican in Belltown. Nothing really stood out to me, except for the kind service. The menu prices look fine, but what you receive isn't that impressive. The Al Pastor tacos for $10- you get two tacos and a side of rice and beans. Relatively speaking, that's absurdly expensive. Rice and beans are basic, and the tacos don't have much flare. The Mole Oaxaqueno is one chicken thigh drenched in mole and complemented with rice. The flavor is rich, and it does not that delicious deep chocolatey touch. This was the one dish I liked. However, the portions aren't very filling. I don't know though. This place is average to me, and it's not like Seattle is truly known for being a bustling scene for Mexican food. I guess it's an okay spot for something low-key, but if you want good Mexican food, don't look for it in Belltown. read more

What an awesome and authentic Mexican food place here in Seattle! My wife and I were looking to kill some time before our flight home, and had this place on our list of good restaurants. We walked there from Pile Place Market, only 5 minutes or so. The staff is a family, and souped friendly! They sat us right away and got us going with drinks and food. Chips and salsa were excellent, great flavor and a little spicy. I had the wet burrito with carne asada and my wife had the sopes with shredded beef. The food was super fresh and so delicious! Awwww, man. I hate updating a review to lower the star rating. But I need to be honest... my last trip to Villa Escondida was not great. First of all, the people who work here are so nice. That's part of the reason I think I really wanted to love my experience here. This review really isn't an indication of the service. It's food/drink focused. First of all, we ordered two of the jalapeno margarita. I've had spicy margs, jalapeno margs, all kinds of spicy cocktails. I also love spicy food, jalapenos--basically I like to hurt while I eat. I also have an extremely high heat tolerance. With that being said, that jalapeno margarita was terrible. No, that's not an exaggeration. There was so much jalapeno that it was really a bad experience drinking it. I'm talking about huge chunks clogging the straw. It just wasn't a balanced cocktail. The food came out fast. I tried the carnitas tacos and my man got the taquitos. He ordered them without any toppings and they totally came with toppings. However, he didn't mind because he luckily liked the sauce. My carnitas tacos were just okay. He also said that shredded chicken filling wasn't good. I make carnitas at home on a regular basis and mine are never that bland. You really can't depend on salsas and sauces to save your tacos. The meat really needs to stand on its own. My dish came with two, small carnitas tacos, a side of white rice, and a side of black beans. The beans are pretty good. The rice was just... plain. So I didn't really eat it. After spending almost $20 on drinks we couldn't even drink, and then our dinners letting us down, we left kind of bummed we wasted the money even going out to eat. read more

I had been scoping out a family friendly Mexican restaurant in Belltown for our Spring Break trip and I decided on Villa Escondida. It's a quick walk from where we were staying & we were seated promptly when we arrived. There are no free chips and salsa, so we ordered one - that they kept refilling for free. I ordered the "wet burrito" and it was good. It wasn't our most memorable meal in Seattle, and we probably wouldn't make a point to come back to this spot. Very casual, authentic Mexican restaurant. Actual rating would be 4.5 We arrived here for a late dinner on a Thursday and were told we could sit wherever we wanted, since it wasn't super crowded. We sat across the back bar on a high top so we could watch the Seahawks game on the TV screens. The restaurant itself is sparsely decorated and has a very casual, laid-back vibe. One of the waitresses asked to take our order. We ordered two margaritas, and I asked if the chips and salsa were complimentary. Instead of politely saying no, she expressed annoyance at my question, but I ordered some anyway. They were so worth it - the chips were warm and the salsa was wonderful, and slightly spicy. I've never heard of Vegetarian Enchiladas before, but they were delicious. The plate came with 4 skinnier enchiladas served with white rice and black beans. It's right next to Ohana Belltown, and I'd walked past a million times not realizing they were here, but did a search for chilaquiles in Seattle and found Villa Escondido. Since then, I've been back for weekend breakfast a number of times and have never been disappointed. The chilaquiles are served with homemade verde sauce, and they're delicious. They have rats! No joke we were sitting at a table and saw a rat run from the right side to left side of the restaurant. A live, fat, rat. I'm from DC. I've grown up in places where rats are common place and I've never seen a rat run across a restaurant floor during dinner service. That just built upon the fact that the wouldn't let us sit in the front area to keep an eye on our dog. When there was NO ONE in the restaurant.
