Came for lunch on a Friday. Flavors are definitely authentic here. Everything on their menu sound delicious and service was on point. Our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. There were three other tables and they got their orders out pretty quickly also. It gets packed real quick at about noon - so go early if you can. I only gave 4 stars because of the drinks. Don't get me wrong, they tasted amazing and the spice level really delivered! We ordered the Picante Margarita and the Jalapeno Margarita; had two of each. I realized they spice up the margarita so damn good that you can't tell there's very little alcohol in the drink (eyes rolling). Best authentic Mexican in Seattle. The carne asada plate should easily be $18+ dollars but it's closer to $12. The steak takes up a third of your plate and is a buttery charbroiled piece of heaven. The tacos are also the best you'll get in the city. Adobada and Carnitas are my favorite, but only because they're the ones I've tried. I'm sure they're all amazing. The mole is on point and if I could eat their chile relleno every day...I would. Don't even get me started on the breakfast burritos. Perfection. The service is impeccable! Friendly and fast. Old place in new location! Yummmmmmm! I was sad when they left the old location on Broadway but totally rejoice when I found out about this new spot! Even though it's in Belltown :) Bring me the mole!!! This place compared to their old space is ginormous! They took over the old frontier place. The have plenty of space for dinner and huge bar area! I can see this place happening on weekends if they play some latin music! It can also seem very empty on a slow night given how big the space is. But same delicious food! Kitchen is in the front so you can pretty much see the action from your table! And they have happy hour till 6 pm. Coming back next time for that. Menu has their popular dishes like the chicken, mole, steak, al pastor and so much more. I do like the food here a lot! We went with really good chips & salsa and few plates too share! I also got their house special margarita! Carne esada plate: big enough to share! I got double rice minus the beans. It was delish!! Love the meat. Taco Al pastor plate: came with white rice and beans. Also delicious!! Flan ~ soft and drenched in caramel! Sweet! Mole is my favorite here! Overall it was low key mellow dining experience for a Saturday night! Super mellow. Four stars all around. Except: I wasn't informed about some side prices. Its not a big deal but it would've been great to know. For instance: when asked what flavor is house margarita: they said strawberry or mango. But didn't say it would be an extra! As well as when asked if they have any spice: it would be charge per portion! We got two tiny cups of their homemade hot sauce. Its hot! We almost got a third too but didn't. You have the choice of going to Mama's Mexican and paying $20 or something ridiculous for some HORRIBLY made "Mexican" food, or you can come here, where everything is under $15 (which is unheard of in Belltown) and you can actually enjoy your food. So happy that Villa Escondida opened and I was able to find it, thanks to Yelp! The food here was amazing. My dad and I both ordered Carne Asada and he got a side of Tamales. We were both greeted and checked on multiple times by all of the workers. If I even looked their away, they were at my table to ensure everything was alright and that I had everything I needed. They were definitely on it! I was really surprised by the prices. Even if you go across the street to get nasty ass Taco Del Mar, once you're done adding sour cream and guac, you've got yourself a $12 burrito meal that makes you sick after eating. So to come here and see the Carne Asada was only $15 was surprising, being that it's in the heart of Belltown. Everything tasted fresh and was well made. Food was delicious, I requested a shredded chicken salad that wasn't in the menu and while the tostadas were still included, the salad itself was very tasty. My hubby ordered posole which he said was excellent. The interior looks like it was once a diner, they mural over the wall is a bit odd, it looks like a bear and a human are getting busy in a tent, and some other odd images, but it definitely gave us something to look at while waiting for our food. But there was Villa Escondida. The neons signs and musica mexicana flowing into the street reminded me of the oddly authentic Mexican food I grew up loving in Virginia (of all places). "Breakfast burrito! Breakfast burrito! Rapido! Por favor!" I didn't order it quite like that, but it's what I thought and what I got. this place is right up the street from where i work, so the location was really convenient! it was a friday around 530 and they weren't busy at all. we were seated immediately and it was still happy hour so my boyfriend ordered the sounderita. that was honestly way too strong and we weren't able to finish it even if we only had one between the two of us. the food was definitely better! i ordered the al pastor tacos meal and my boyfriend got the wet burrito. the food came out in a timely manner which was great because we had to catch a ferry. my meal came with two tacos, rice, and black beans. the meat portions were great and the green sauce that came with it was really good. the meat was soft, but not anything out of this world. just a simple al pastor taco with onions, which isn't a bad thing. the rice was pretty plain though, just tasted like plain steamed rice so i think that i would have preferred something with more flavor. i did enjoy the rice and beans together, so that was nice. the wet burrito was a good size and the red sauce on it was really good! again the meat was soft but the flavor wasn't something to die for. there was guac on the burrito which was a plus. overall we enjoyed our food and the portions are good for the price. the location is prime and the service was great. i'd eat here again and try other things. read more

The only reason it is getting 2 stars is because the food is decent. In order to take part in happy hour prices on the food, we were made to order alcoholic beverages. We brought along a homemade habanero salsa, as most places do not make it, and we were told rudely (by the waitress with braces) that we could not use it. We asked if they had a spicy salsa, and they brought out a 1/2 oz container with a chipotle sauce with they charged us for as well. This place seems to nickel and dime you for anything you want. I almost feel criminal for not writing this review sooner, because Villa Escondida is my favorite restaurant in Belltown, period. The ambiance is a big open space, but please don't turn away just because they don't have swanky hipstery lighting and Pier 1 decor like every restaurant opened by some celebrity chef with a confusing Restaurant Wars concept. You came to eat, right Padma? The food is so legit. I have to say that ever since I moved from NYC, I have craved Mexican and Caribbean comfort food--the kind that tastes like someone's grandma made it. Villa Escondida is exactly that. My favorite menu items are the jalapeno margarita (it has a kick, be ready!), tacos adobada (it's so good i'm re-surprised at how perfect it is every time), the pollo asado which is perfectly seasoned, and the carne asada. The orange rice with beans is so simple but perfectly executed in every way. Villa Escondida is taste bud therapy! Don't trash this place around me, I'll fight you. We yelped a Mexican restaurant after we went up the space Needle. As we walked in, a couple ladies were walking out. They stated to get ready for some awesome food. That was a great welcome. I tried the de cebiche. It was spicy and delicious. We had six in our group. No one was dissatisfied. There chips are great almost like flavored. The quesadillas came with some Verde. That Verde was crazy good. The wet burrito sauce was very flavorful. You definitely need to try this place and review it. We will be back. Hands down the best restaurant in Seattle proper. I'm Mexican; every item on this meal my mom has cooked for me in one form or another. What more do you need? I've been to one too many gosh darn restaurants in Seattle that are a poor attempt at yuppifying Mexican cuisine and fall short at both yuppification, and the Mexican cuisine part, and become a gross Frankenstein that shouldn't be alive (looking at you Cactus SLU). This restaurant doesn't try to be anything it's not. Terrible service. I've came with my wife with my own salad bowl. My wife wanted to get tacos, so this seemed a good place. Ive asked if it is Ok for me to bring the salad in so we can sit down and have tacos. The server said it is totally Ok, which is expected when you treated like a human being. WE WERE KICKED OUT We went in for a dinner and had the worst experience service-wise EVER. Only one slow light headed server for the entire restaurant that made every possible mistake you can make. By the end of our dinner when we were heading out we were asked by a guy in the counter if it was good, and we were honest in telling him that their service was horrible, and he yelled at me and my husband telling us to get THE F OUT OF THERE. Was looking on Yelp for some Mexican food options in Belltown and found this place. When we got there my first reaction was that I've walked past this place a zillion times and never really noticed it!! We went on a Saturday morning around 10 and they were not too busy with just a couple of other tables with customers. The interior decor and songs really added to the mood. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered two vegetarian dishes - the huevos rancheros and vegetable omelette with wheat toast. Everything tasted pretty good! The huevos rancheros was served with the filling in between two slightly fried tortillas plus avocado.
