I really, really wanted to like this place. We'd heard through word of mouth that they were serving dishes straight out of Mexico City, so on a whim one Friday night, my partner and I grabbed a 7:45 reservation--which, honestly, might've been the first sign. I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back. read more

I came here last week for my birthday and oh my goodness this was such a great decision! This place has such a cute ambience and very creative dishes that you wouldn't find at every Mexican restaurant We ended up getting one of everything on the menu (minus the chicken en mole) Bolilo: a very simple bread with cream cheese in it, it seems that the menu rotates the bread filling! This was nice but I think if you're wanting to try more of the entrees skip out on this otherwise nice to pair with any entree that is really saucy! Ensalada de Calabaza: such a nice tangy salad! I love how the vinaigrette balances out the mildness of the squash, it's such a great pairing. I also love that there's yu choy, one of my favorite Chinese veggies! Serrano Caesar: not your typical Caesar! I love the integration of Mexican ingredients to really make it unique! The lettuce is a little bitter which I actually liked and think it was great with the dressing. I like the tostada crumbles they put in it for the texture. Halibut ceviche: so tangy and creamy! It's very citrusy which pairs really nicely with the halibut and eating it with the tostada was a nice contrast of the crunchy and soft. Albacore tuna tostadas: this was so good!! The tostada did not get soggy from the toppings but it was still saucy! I really loved the morita kewpie, it gave a really smoky, fatty, slightly sweet flavor to the tuna. The fried leeks were also a nice touch to give it another layer of crunchiness Brisket suadero tacos: wow!! The meat in this was juicy and flavorful and the salsa added a great acidity to the fattiness of the meat! A simple dish, but the ingredients were top tier Sturgeon en mole verde: I was surprised how much I liked this. I typically stay away from fish dishes just because I never seem to like them enough or the fish is too dry. But this was perfect! It was a really mild flavor, not too fishy and the fennel was a great touch. I will say even though I did like this dish, I think I liked everything else way more. This was a dish that was very mild in flavor, nothing too bold to make it stand out but I still enjoyed this Steak a la Francesca: my oh my!! The meat was tender and flavorful, the sauce that came with it was so good I almost licked the sauce off the plate, it I was at home I probably would've. I am such a sauce girl so this was a really good dish for me. Cochinita pibil: the pork was very tender and flavorful and tasted so great when making our tacos. Sometimes pork can dry out a bit but this was not the case for this dish! I even too some of the sauce from the steak and spread it on my tortilla as a sauce for the pork If you can only get a few dishes from the menu, I would say don't skip out on the Ensalada de calabaza, halibut ceviche, albacore tuna tostadas, brisket suadero tacos, and steak a la Francesca. Thursday night walk-in and the place is buzzing. The restaurant gives a homy and comfortable vibes. Reminds me a little like Atoma but more casual. We had a short wait and grabbed seats at the bar. The flavors packed a punch. Aguachili with scallops still has me ruminating for days after. I also really enjoyed beet salad and the tostadas. I wasn't entirely impressed with Pancita. First, the acoustics made it hard to hear our server even though she was standing near us. We were told to eat the menu as family style. We clarified how many entrees we should get for six people, the waitress said one or two. As you can see in the pictures, the entrees were normal size entrees. One entree would certainly feed two people, but 6 is crazy. The chicken was a half chicken bone in. With four pieces and six people, we had to awkwardly carve our own chicken off the bone. The steak was okay, nothing amazing. The appetizer was also difficult to split with one taco. Overall, the experience was shaped by the direction given but in my opinion the direction was misguided. I really enjoyed the warm atmosphere and the genuinely friendly staff. The food overall was very good, though I came in with slightly higher expectations. The Caesar salad and ceviche were both fresh and well prepared, but neither stood out as particularly unique. I also found that pairing these two appetizers created a bit of flavor fatigue, as both leaned heavily on acidic profiles. The tuna tacos, however, were the highlight of the evening! They were well balanced with just the right combination of texture and a thoughtfully layered complex flavor profile. They were executed perfectly. Our main dish, the duck, had great flavor but didn't quite meet expectations in terms of texture. It was quite chewy, which made enjoying it in taco form a bit challenging, even with the excellent tortillas. The mole sauce was outstanding, though, and I'd recommend cutting the duck into smaller pieces to make the dish easier to eat and fully appreciate. Went here on a weekday night with a later reservation and the place was very busy to the point where even with a reservation we waited a bit. The inside is on the smaller side and it does get very loud when full. Once people emptied out the noise lowered quite a bit since we were one of the final reservation time slots. Menu is pretty concise with a few starters, a couple taco pairs, a few mains, and a few sides. We opted for the items that appeared to be their best sellers as the starter we had our eyes on had run out so we ordered the albacore tuna tostadas, the brisket suadero tacos, and the chicken mole. I also got a passionfruit mezcalita which was okay. All the food tasted good but the price point was pretty high with the mole being around triple the price of the tacos/tostadas. The tacos/tostadas were my favorite items and they were each a few bites while the mole was a much larger portion. The mole also took a while to make so if I were to return I would probably skip the main and get more smaller items but the chicken was cooked really well. For dessert we got a raspberry tiramisu which was probably the least special food item so I'd skip it in the future. Definitely make a reservation if you plan on coming as it is very popular! read more

I took my foodie group here (we had a 6 person reservation). The waitress was super helpful in choosing adequate portions for everyone and how many of each dish. Overall, the standouts were the tuna tostadas, the beans!! (Believe it or not but these truffle refried beans were amazing), the saudero tacos, aguachile, and the steak. I initially was disappointed by the dessert menu, as there was no chocoflan on it at the time. We decided to order a churro and I'm normally not a churro fan but their chocolate churro with a caramel dip was delicious! It was a huge dessert and easy to share. This restaurant is in the former Pair location in the Ravenna neighborhood. The restaurant keeps its farm-to-table theme with a new Mexican twist. Parking is available down a residential street. Service is friendly and attentive. Waters were filled often and the server was able to make recommendations and answer questions with ease. We ordered the mamelas (corn cakes) for an appetizer and the jam it came with was incredible! There are two mamelas per order. The menu emphasizes the use of Mexican corn. The food on the menu is labeled as shareable but the portion sizes don't seem shareable. It seems like a ploy to get people to order more? We ordered the brisket tacos and the chicken mole. The brisket tacos are two small tacos for $22 and the chicken mole is essentially a half chicken for $65. I shared some if my chicken with my girlfriend but the tacos were not big enough to share. The chicken mole takes ~30 minutes to make, so order an appetizer if you're hungry! The chicken and mole, taste wise, is good! $65 is still cheaper than a plane ticket to Mexico but haven't found anything that tops the mole I've had there. We ordered the frutas for dessert and the fresh fruit paired nicely with the robust flavor of the chamoy and tajin. Overall the food was good - the jam with the memelas was my favorite! My biggest qualm is the price and sharable concept can add up quickly. The food and drinks are big on spicy, so if you do not have the palate for that, you may be better off skipping. read more

3.68/5 stars. But rounding up this review. Pancita caught my attention when it was touted as one of Seattle's hot restaurants in an Eater article. And with the abundance of positive reviews, it made it seem worthwhile to book a table a month in advance. Let's get to it. The food - pretty tasty, and such great flavors. The quantity though? Sorely lacking and I was still left hungry at the end of the night. My wife ordered this special cheese dish (photo shown), where they prepared two types of cheeses and a jam, served with two small tortillas. This was overall a mess - the cheeses were bland and the tortillas (again, just 2) were so small and measly. Why would they just offer two for so much cheese - we barely made a dent in the dish while smothering as much as we could on the tortillas. After this appetizer, my brow furrows in thoughts that the kitchen was rationing and being stingy with portions. Fortunately, the experience went uphill afterwards. The suadero tacos (only 2, which again, made me feel all kinds of fury) were actually really solid and flavorful. The meat was really tender and it was a great dish. I just can't fathom paying $9 a taco though... The ling cod was also really good. Pricey (you can start to see a pattern in this review), but tasty and rich in flavor. Probably the highlight of the night. Overall, would I come back again? Maybe for an anniversary or something festive to celebrate, but even so, it would be a hard decision to make. Despite the great flavors and prompt service, if I want a Mexican fix, the local taco shop can suffice AND I can save a whole lot of money. Claps for being promoted on Eater. Is it deserved? Amazing high-end Mexican fusion restaurant in a charming location. Everything we ate was delicious. Our favorites were the sturgeon, winter greens salad, and tacos de lengua. I would gladly eat all of those dishes again. The chicken mole was tasty but not worth the price ($61), especially given that it's only the chicken with a side of tortillas. Dear Pancita, Your vibe (cozy, dim, unpretentious) was just the thing I needed after a stressful workday. The presentation of the food was just out of this world, everything was meticulously plated. The tostada was certainly the highlight of the show, appearing in the Albacore dish and the Serrano Caesar. So crunchy and slightly charred. There was a beautiful veggie mushroom garnacha which was delicious. The salsa had a last-minute kick to it that was somehow so slow-burn you may not have realized it until your last bite. The Passionfruit soda was delicious but the Grapefruit was a miss...you'd think that would've been a bit bitter, but it was just a sugar bomb. The only other miss was the timing of dishes, we didn't order any fuertes, but a smattering of entradas and garnachas, but we were also 2 meat-eaters and 2 vegetarians and specified that when ordering, but the 2 meat dishes came out early and the 2 veggie dishes came out late so someone was always waiting for another to dine. So we went here with a couple of friends who have been raving about this place for a double date night last night. Super cute and cozy inside like I'm in an old country style restaurant. I think they were a bit nervous to bring 2 Mexicans to a Mexican restaurant lol. That said this is ELEVATED Mexican food. This isn't taco truck cheap eats (which I hella get down with and know some spots), this is elevated craft Mexican food. Everything is thought of and hand made from the tortillas to the tamales. Some experimental items you won't find on a traditional Mexican restaurant like the sourdough tamales for the appetizer which were interesting but the butter it came with was phenomenal! Aside from that the food is fantastic! Fancy and great quality! Our favorite item was the tuna tostada, scallop aguachiles, the beef tartare equivalent (I forgot them name but it was insanely good!) and the mole which was a little sweeter than I make it but still fantastic. The service was great, the cocktails were great and I would absolutely come back here for an elevated dining experience. Great and cute little spot with a small menu. I recommend going with 3 other people so you can order the whole menu because honestly everything is worth tasting! Is this traditional and authentic Mexican food? I wouldn't say so, but it sources from legit Mexican places, and it's Mexican ingredients that are elevated to new levels. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Five of us went this past Sunday one of my friends had been to the chefs pop ups before she had a brick and mortar. He had booked or reservations a while ago and I had been anxiously awaiting this dinner. Such a wonderful and memorable experience. Great staff our wait person was very patient and informative when we asked if certain plates were easy to share. Also one of our friends can't do a lot of spice do to a medical condition and the server took that into account when making suggestions. some dishes we had to double up on like the tacos and tostada cause there were five of us and those came three to a serving. Quaint space with lots of natural lighting, Bar near the kitchen. Street parking in residential neighborhood. All the dishes we ordered was delicious. The steak tacos were so delicious and very different from other tacos I have had--the tortillas were fresh and had a fluffier texture than I expected. The pork loin and chicken mole both came with an order of fresh tortillas, which perfectly balanced the verde flavor of the pork and the spiced mole. I have had better mole in New York recently, so my review might be a little more critical because of that, but I thought the chicken could be a bit more juicy and tender. The sauce was delicious though! I knocked off a point because although the service was good, we waited ~50 minutes to receive all the food (about 20 minutes for the tacos and another 30 or so for the entrees). The price point is also much higher than other similar restaurants--our total bill was $136. For an app and 2 entrees, that's pretty steep for us! read more

I was excited to find this restaurant on an Eater List but sad to say it was a disappointment all around from the moment my boyfriend and I walked in. I made a reservation for 9:15pm and we had to wait 15-20 mins for our table. They told us they could seat us at the community table next to 3 ladies (who we were told would leave within 10-15 mins or so but actually stayed just as long as us) or we could wait for a table finishing up/signing check. I made the reservation for a late Valentine's Day date so I opted to wait. The waiter at the front offered us a drink menu and we almost ordered a drink, except he never followed up about the drink menu. From the start, I was already upset that I had to wait that long for a reservation I made several weeks in advance. Before we ordered, a waitress came by to offer us water and we ordered shortly after. Every time I make a reservation, I make sure to put down allergies in the notes and they didn't acknowledge it until I brought it up. We ended up choosing the pork loin as our main dish but I wanted to sub the tortillas for rice. The waitress hesitated and informed us she would check, took the rest of our order, and never got back to us about it. We ordered 3 items: - tuna tostada 5/5 - tetela 3/5 - pork loin 3.5/5 Ended up ordering a non-alcoholic drink later: - earl grey horchata 2/5 (way too sweet) Between all the dishes, the tuna tostada was our favorite. The fish was fresh and the dish itself had so much flavor. The tetelas were okay and had a little spicy kick. Texture could've been better ie crispier. The pork loin was p good and very juicy. I liked the mushrooms and the green sauce on top of the dish. The bill came out to be $100 and tbh for a place more expensive, we expected much better service than what we received. I would've expected a check up on if we wanted to order a drink while waiting for our RESERVATION, or for them to even comp a drink. Our food came out pretty slow slow while the rest of the tables around us received their food rather quickly. In addition, we ended up getting our pork loins boxed up (they box leftovers for you) and my boyfriend had to go up the counter himself to get the leftovers bc it was sitting in a bag for awhile already!! No hard feelings, Seattle - but it's been a while since I've felt this way about a restaurant here. My friend was kind enough to snag a reservation for us. We knew that we wanted to try a lot of things, so we ended up ordering the following to share in order of arrival... -Serrano Caesar -Albacore Tuna Tostadas -Machete -Half Chicken and Mole The Caesar had some nice crunch from the tortilla crisps as well as a welcomed heat that I'm not used to with Caesar salads. I liked this! The tostadas were pure umami bombs thanks to the fried leeks especially. So, so good and the reason that I've already made a reservation to come back! While I didn't quite know exactly what the machete was, the best comparison was something like a vampiro with crispy cheesy and delicious filling. Yum. The thing is... by the time the half chicken and mole arrived the three of us were pretty stuffed. We ended up taking most of the chicken to-go and just didn't have the room for dessert. When I go again, I'd probably skip the chicken in order to make room for dessert. All and all, the service was friendly and the environment was warm - like eating dinner at a friend's house. This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle after trying it. The service was incredible and the food was phenomenal. The inside of the restaurant was super cute and cozy, but also super light with the windows and wooden accents. We had a reservation when we went and sat next to the window. The servers were very knowledgeable on the dishes and how they were created. They were very personable and gave us so much information about how the mesa is prepared. They also had great recommendations for the menu. We ordered the brisket tacos, the chef's special, and for dessert got the tamale dessert (best dessert ever).  The brisket in the brisket tacos was so tender and flavorful. The sauce complemented the meat well and the lime was a perfect touch. The chef's special was phenomenal-the tortilla was super soft and flavorful, and the sauces were really unique. The dessert was actually my favorite. It was a sweet tamale, but it was not too sweet or overpowering. In fact, it was the perfect mix of textures and flavors. It had a beautiful white chocolate toasted corn with a fresh fruit sauce.  The bathrooms were small and fairly kept. Nothing stand-out. Pancita is an absolute gem. It's located in the old Pair restaurant and has maintained all that rustic charm. The food is creative, incredible, delicious, and has just the right amount of creativity and fusion alongside classic, authentic Mexican favorites like from-scratch heirloom corn tortillas and Oaxacan style chicken mole. I'm never disappointed here. The menu includes fun and unusual wines from Baja Mexico alongside other options. The cocktails are delightful and fun. You can't go wrong here. The serrano Caesar salad was also correct, as were the sirloin aguachile, the brisket tacos and the snout gordita. The dishes are served family style, which fits the rustic interior design. There is a limited one-page menu, and we ordered almost everything on it. Initially, the dishes came out at well-timed intervals, but at some point, we were left waiting for 45 minutes, and the entire meal from start to finish was more than 2 1/2 hours--way too long. Some of the dishes were DELICIOUS, with notable exceptions. The steak was severely undercooked, really raw, and exceptionally tough. The mole tasted too chocolate forward and sweet. It was the most expensive item on the menu, and it was also the most poorly executed dish. Because it was the last dish we were served, it overshadowed the whole experience. I did love the tart, lime forward Caesar salad and the fish aguachile. The tuna tostadas were delicious, but hard to eat because the raw tuna was sliced into pieces so large I couldn't bite through them easily. The brisket tacos were perfectly seasoned and cut into easy to eat pieces. The mushroom enchiladas were bland, and lacked seasoning. The stuffed trout was boneless, tender and flavorful, and I could have made an entire meal of the perfectly-cooked rice and frijoles charros. The desserts--we got them all--were just okay. Still, I will go back again for sure, but will skip the steak and desserts. read more

Tons of food (the three of us didn't quite finish) with incredible flavor. The best Mole I've ever had, and the pistachio sauce for the sturgeon was impeccable. I had the Earl Grey Horchata which was perfect. Flavors were rich and worked together like a symphony. Same for the avocado/coconut/grapefruit ice cream with chocolate flakes. Celiac here. Went hoping for more gluten free options but surprisingly they were limited. The tortillas were incredible ( and GF) but I ended up with the pork chop for$45. It was probably the best pork chop I've ever eaten. The shrimp appetizer was good but super messy as they cook it with the shell and head on and it was pretty spicy. Glad I got to eat here- service and atmosphere top notch. Won't likely be back until more gluten free options are offered. read more

We made reservations online for Saturday night which is a great tip as we saw a party of two walk in and was quoted an hour and half wait. We came 10 mins early and got seated right away. For appetizers, we got the asparagus ceviche and it was probably one of the best ceviches I ever had. It was the special of the day however they need to add this to the permanent menu if they can. The sauce was perfectly seasoned and the depth of flavors was awesome. Next, we tried the tetelas which was beautifully plated with different sauces. The tetelas was stuffed with veggies and cheese. So good! I love the house made tortilla. For our entree we got the chicken and mole which is half of a chicken so definitely a plate you share. The mole had a lot of flavors and they serve it with tortillas. For dessert, we got the fruit bowl with housemade chamoy. It was refreshing to eat at the end of the meal. Service was attentive and kind. The ambiance was cozy. We will definitely return! read more

Everything about Pancita was wonderful, from the service to the ambience to the food and libations. However, I think instead of "Pancita" (little tummy) it should be called "Panza Enorme" because you will want to lick every plate clean. I was so happy when I found out that this is their permanent space - they are no longer a pop-up! We ordered the chicken with black and red mole and Manila clam pozole for our main courses. Since the food was going to take about 30 minutes, the waitress suggested that we order something else to nosh on while we waited. We ordered the albacore tuna tostadas topped with frizzled leeks. My husband ordered a sort of piña colada (can't remember the name) and I ordered the passion fruit mezcalita (which was smoky and complex with the perfect balance of sweetness). If I could only eat one thing for the rest of the month, it would be those tuna tostadas. The tostada itself was wonderfully, perfectly crispy - almost Frito-like with an addictive crunch - and topped with kewpie mayo, avocado, leeks, and a squeeze of lime. It was one of the best bites I've had in years. The pozole and mole were delicious surprises. The side of rice was fluffy and flavorful. We had no business ordering dessert but we did anyway: arroz con leche with hibiscus-soaked quince and frutas con house-made apricot chamoy. Elevated. Tart. Tangy. Come with an empty stomach, the intention to have a long, leisurely dinner, and an early reservation! Even on a Sunday night the place was full. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Food is fantastic. I really was in disbelief when I ate my pork chop, it sounds simple but the chef made it spectacular. My date had chicken mole, she enjoyed it but wasn't as thrilled as I was about my pork chop. We also tried their tacos and memelas, both were excellent. The masa is king here and I would recommend if you have the means for it, it's not a cheap place. Drinks were very tasty too. Parking is street only. read more
