    Happy hour oysters on Wednesdays
    Andii S.

Came here on a Wednesday to enjoy their happy hour oysters ($2 per oyster) which I learned about from Tiktok. You can order them by the half dozen or by the dozen and they come served with two different sauces. One is a spicier red salsa and the other is a mango sauce. The mango one went so well with the oysters and I'm delighted to have been exposed to a new flavor combo that I enjoyed so much. I also tried the scallop aguachile which is tossed with sliced red onion in a passionfruit habanero sauce. It has an amazing spicy kick to it that I absolutely loved. This dish came with two toasted tortillas which were very yummy and high quality. Actually everything tastes really high quality. Highly recommend everything as it's so fresh, citrusy, and flavorful. Kinda pricey but worth it!

Fair Isle is already a great casually classy place to get beer in fancy glasses. And then you add the dishes from La Marea and boom, the night is elevated. I'll be honest, the thing that pulled me in were the $2 oyster Mondays (which is changing to Wednesdays, I think starting this week). The oysters were delicious and fresh both times I've had them, but I liked them more one week from another... we later asked if the oysters they served in previous weeks were the same, and it seems they switch between different kinds. I've also had the scallop aguachile. It was a beautiful and yummy dish, but I felt the fruitiness of the passionfruit was a bit overpowering and it was hard to taste the scallops. It came with two crunchy tortillas. The dish was so soupy that I wish it had come with more crispy tortillas, or maybe a bunch of regular tortilla chips, to sop up the rest of that liquid! Last but not least, I had the tuna tostada. I mean... I could've had at least 2 more of these in one sitting, but they're so pricy ($16.50, unless it went up by now). So, if you are feeling spendy and are in a beer and citrusy seafood mood, check out La Marea at Fair Isle Brewing.

Mexican seafood popup at Fair Isle Brewing! You can get a beer from the brewery and have some tasty seafood to go along with it. They have tostadas, aguachile, salsa and queso. We got their tuna tostada, the especial tostada which was lingcod, the scallop and passionfruit aguachile, and the queso. Everything was delicious! The seafood was so fresh. Very clean and bright flavors. My favorite was definitely the especial lingcod tostada with peanut salsa.

La Marea is it. The hunt is over. As two Southern California transplants, my husband and I have been searching for the best mariscos in the Seattle area. After 3 years, we can conclusively say La Marea is #1. All fresh ingredients, incredible flavors, and really creative dishes. The staff knows what they're doing and are some of the nicest folks out there! The Tuna tostada is out of this world. My brain melted as I ate it. Truly a work of art. Grab yourself a delicious beer from Fair Isle then snag anything off the La Marea menu -- you can't go wrong. After visiting two days in a row, we're planning our next trip back to Ballard for our fix ;)

My wife and I decided to make a trip over to Fair Isle brewing to try out La Marea. We have been following them on instagram and finally made a trip to try out the food. We are super happy we made the trip because this food is amazing! My wife took her first bite of her tuna tostada and said " this has to be one of the best things I've ever had" and she wasn't lying. That tostada was amazing and had so much flavor! She ended up going back for another one. I ordered the Mixta tostada and the aguachile with Scallops and passion fruit Habanero. The mixta tostada was so good and the flavors were insane. The aguachile was really good too. I wish it was spicer but the habanero and passion fruit was really good. We sat at the bar and the chef was talking to us and telling us about his journey from pop up to full time kitchen for fair isle. Very excited to see what other food items they come up with because they are making some great food! I can't wait to keep coming back for delicious beer and even more delicious food!

All 3 times I ate at La Marea has been tops. The quality of the fish is top and you'll try flavors like you never had anywhere else. A lot of it can be spicy so not all of it is for the feint of heart! Can't recommend checking this out enough.

Run don't walk. I love this place. The seafood is super fresh -- easily some of the best Mexican seafood I've had in Seattle. The tuna tostada is my favorite. I've been twice now, and both times everything was great. The setup is cool too -- it's inside Fair Isle Brewery, so the vibe is casual and relaxed. You can hang out with friends for a few hours, grab a beer, and there's usually no wait. It's definitely on the pricier side (tostadas are around $15-$18), but the quality makes it worth it.

I always preface by saying this: I lived in NYC for over 10 years and I think most Seattle restaurants are "meh" at best. I just had the aguachiles at the Seafood Festival....wow. It had a nice spice to it and sweetness of passionfruit-- and the team working was so nice. I'm so glad the festival featured local restaurants and pop ups so I can go back and enjoy in the future!

Happened to be staying around the corner and was looking for something fresh and new (at least to me). My first time having uni and it was a stunner. Fresh, bright, just the right amount of brine, on a perfect tostada. Then, I just had to get in on the oysters as well. The last day both were being offered and I had 0 regrets getting both. A delightful amount of spice. Not too much but enough to know it's there and complement the flavors of everything else. Wash it down with a michelada and I was a very satisfied customer. An incredible meal done by a 2 person crew. Sat by the kitchen and got to talk with them as they slung so many plates of delicious food. I can't wait until I can come back and share this gem with others!

Delicious! What Seattle has been missing . . . Amazing Mexican seafood. All the tostadas were incredible. You must try the tuna tostada! Honestly, this rivals what you get in Baja. Also love their habanero salsa . . Order as a side, you won't regret it!

(those burritos are massive omg.) the mole enchiladas were SOOO good, as were the cashew poblano enchiladas. their sauces are so yummy and the presentation was on-point for both enchiladas. i also had a bite of my friend's carne en morita which is a slow cooked pork dish, and i was obsessed. the only thing i'd say to pass on would be the tacos. drinks were also great and had amazing presentation. i was very satisfied with my carajillo and my friend's passion fruit mojito was also very tasty (you could NOT taste the alc in it i swear) overall, koko's is a great spot if you're looking to dress up for a cute night out but also craving some tasty mexican food.

The table also has two glass bottles of water for refilling as needed which I always appreciate. We started with the Bone Marrow and Queso Fundido and both were delicious. 10/10, no notes. I typically don't like Queso Fundido because it gets so greasy and the cheese hardens fast but this was flavorful, spreadable and the chorizo was a nice compliment not the main event. The Bone Marrow was exactly what you'd expect! So yummy. For our mains we got the Buenos Aires Torta (actually the reason we came to try Asadero) and the shrimp tacos. The bread for the Torta was flavorful and perfectly toasted. The steak was delicious and the chimichurri was so good I just wish there was more! My husband got the tacos and he said they were also very good! After we finished eating we were offered peppermint tea (complimentary) which was another really unexpected and unique touch/experience! The service from everyone was great. Very friendly. Quick service. The establishment was clean and so cozy but also upscale in a very chill way. Bathrooms were clean and smelled good with cute decor. It's not a huge place but I think that's what allows for such an attentive experience. From start to finish we really enjoyed ourselves and will absolutely be back with friends or family!

We'd heard through word of mouth that they were serving…read moredishes straight out of Mexico City, so on a whim one Friday night, my partner and I grabbed a 7:45 reservation--which, honestly, might've been the first sign. I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.

Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour.
