I've always wanted to check out D'la Santa. I always heard that Fri and Sats are always busy and they do not take reservations but walk-ins only. However, I just found out you can put your self on the waitlist on their website if it's busy. Sundays are the best days to go as it's not as busy and they were able to accommodate a big party. The restaurant also has a parking lot for people to park at as well, so that is a plus! The drink menu is very limited, they don't have a full bar. I ordered the skinny margarita and it was good. The food is authentic and if you are looking for authentic Mexican food, D'La Santa is the spot. We ordered the queso and the rajitas. Both appetizers are really good, came out super hot. Highly recommend. I got the carne asada plate and added an extra mini quesadilla. The carne is very seasoned so you have to eat it with the tortilla to balance out the saltiness. Delicious, truly authentic food. I'm so glad I found this place! I had been craving real Mexican food, and while the pictures looked amazing, I tried not to get my hopes up especially since so many "Mexican restaurants" don't quite capture that true, authentic flavor. We went on a Sunday and I was really hoping to try the tiramisu and bone marrow, but they weren't available at the date and time we went (shed a tear). Still, what we ordered completely made up for it. We had the torta ahogada, costillita en salsa roja, and moyetes dulces and I was honestly blown away. They absolutely nailed the tortas ahogadas. They were so good we ordered three more to go. I would gladly drive that hour and a half again just to eat here. I'll definitely be taking pictures next time! Great spot and so glad I found it on my recent Seattle trip. Staff were very friendly and service was quick. We went for brunch so when we sat they almost immediately offered pan dulces y hot chocolate or mimosa from the carts. They really paid attention to detail such as asking how sweet we wanted a mimosa, and offering a choice of garnish. It felt like I had been invited into someone's home how much they personalized and attended to not only us but every table. If you're suckered in by the sweet bread and Oaxaca hot chocolate just know that's ONLY a brunch thing (*cries* but also, makes sense). So the above items mentioned brought me in. But I'm glad we were able to experience this place regardless. The main dishes are very authentic, from what I've read in other reviews. My husband and I ended up getting the Chile En Nogada & Cochinita Pibil. I'm a pretty adventurous eater and the Chile En Nogada was, different. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. I think if you've had this before an liked it, then from what I've read, this is authentic and delicious. But as a first timer, I don't think my palate was ready for it. I'll say I'm glad I tried it, but wouldn't order it again. The Cochinita Pibil though was great! We got the Dubai cake for dessert. I wanted this because people have been raving about Dubai chocolate lately, and this was another flop for me. Not my vibe. But did we finish it? Heck yeah. Haha. My husband said "this is one of my favorite restaurants for sure!" And then the next day he said "ahhh I miss this place already..." So yeah this place definitely deserves 5 stars!! We got carne asada and rib eyes steak! And wow the portion was huge for the Carne Asada! The meat marinated so well and so tender! And if you ordered the rib eye, you will definitely get everyone's attention because they brought me the sizzling pan. It's super duper hot so please be careful!! It kept the steak hot the whole meal, but the only part I didn't like is because the pan was too hot, it overcooked the meat at the end. My boyfriend and I came right when they opened after our drive in from Portland, and there was already a line out the door -- definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. Luckily, the line moved fast and we got seated pretty quickly. The food was incredible. Everything was so flavorful and exceeded my expectations. The handmade tortillas? Unreal. So warm and soft -- you can seriously taste the difference. My boyfriend ordered the pozole (even though it felt a little pricey), but honestly it was worth it. Super rich and comforting, and there was way more meat in there than it looked like at first. One of my favorite parts was the sweet bread cart -- they come around with a tray of fresh pastries and it smelled SO good, I didn't even hesitate. Perfect with a cup of coffee. Everyone who says there's no good Mexican food in Seattle has obviously never tried this place! The food is delicious and the service is super nice. The decor is also beautiful with the tree in the middle of the restaurant, and I love the vibes at brunch when they push around a cart with pastries and mimosas. One dish I loved here was the Chile en Nogada. I feel like finding this dish is a rarity at any Mexican restaurant, so I always order it if I see it. This dish had so many flavors but everything worked together harmoniously. The smokiness of the poblano, the meaty and fruity flavors from the filling, the nutty sweet flavors of the sauce. It sounds a bit weird, but it all works together and you should try it if you haven't. The one downside of this restaurant is that they don't take reservations so come early or be prepared to wait. The wait can be 2-3 hours at peak times, but one good thing is that you can join the waitlist online so definitely do that before going to the restaurant. read more

We started with cocktails ordered 2 different ones: - Cazuelita: Something was seriously wrong with this drink. We found out they pre-mix their cocktails and this one tasted salty and effervescent, as if one of the fruits had gone bad. You could immediately tell something was wrong. Instant yuck! - Jicara: nowhere in the description it says that it has pineapple but it does and I'm actually allergic to it. Not cool! At that point I decided to just go with water. I was starving so we decided to just order food, We had: - Guacamole: it was fine. - Healthy tacos: basically tacos but on lettuce instead of tortillas. This dish comes with 3 meat options, I ordered chorizo (best one), asada (just ok), and chicken (also ok) - Cochinita Pibil: the best one of what we ordered. It had good flavor and was well prepared. They come with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. My boyfriend asked for flour and they took a while to come out, after everything else was on the table. When they finally arrived, turned out they were corn instead of flour, so he ended up having to wait even more to start eating. Annoying! The dishes were flavorful and about as close to authentic as it gets, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the experience was significantly impacted by the host. I've heard from others that the service here wasn't great, and after visiting, I now understand that it's not the table service that's the issue, it's the initial welcome into the restaurant. That first interaction sets the tone for the entire experience, and in this case, it unfortunately ruined what could have been a very enjoyable visit. I genuinely believe that reconsidering the host position would dramatically improve the overall experience for guests, and I'm sure many would agree. If i'm being honest, I'm surprised someone looking like that would have that much of an audacity. I added a picture as to not cause mixups with other hosts. With a better first impression, this restaurant could easily become a favorite. Aside from that, the food, server and atmosphere were great. It doesn't help that upon arrival the host told us it was going to be a 45 minute to an hour wait, which I agreed to. Only for it to be a 10 minute wait. She must be delusional if she thinks a 45 minute wait with two parties ahead is an accurate quote. D'La Santa is an absolute must visit in Cap Hill. Keep in mind that they don't take reservations and you will have to get on the wait list here, but it is 100% worth it. Exquisite vibes emanate from the inside the moment you walk in the door. There is some sort of beautiful fake tree in the middle that I would love to sit underneath and read a book while I waft in the phenomenal scents of carne asada. I knew this place was special when I was waiting outside and there were 3 separate birthday parties walking out. The parrillada (bbq) is 100% worth the price. They tell you that it is for 3 people, but we came with 4 and it was plenty. That thing is loaded with meats, nopales, onions, really anything that you would want to put inside of a tortilla. And then... in the middle... there is just a pool of cheese. I've been thinking about it ever since I left. We also had a massive baked potato that I forgot to take a picture of, but it was the size of my head. I would love to go back to try more of the menu, but I'm not sure I could go without ordering the parrillada again. I cat sit for friends who live in the neighborhood, and they strongly recommended that I pay a visit. What a nice restaurant! Great food, friendly and helpful staff, and a unique environment and ambiance. It is a bit pricey--you're looking at $30-$50 per person for dinner (with drinks and tip)--but I think the old addage "you get what you pay for" certainly applies here. I've now visited D' La Santa twice, bringing my girlfriend the second, and will certainly be back again! On my first visit, I had their Huarache, which consists of masa topped with beans, all manner of fresh ingredients, and a protein (I chose chicken). It was really good. (Huaraches are kind of long, oblong tostada, where the shell is fairly thick.) As a side, on my waiter's recommendation, I ordered their chips and guacamole. OMG! The guac was to die for! Some of the best I've ever had in a restaurant. My only complaint: they provided some wonderful homemade chips, but only 4 of them! Not nearly enough to consume the guacamole! On my second visit, I ordered their tacos (two pastor and one chicken), and my girlfriend ordered their portobello mushroom dish from their rather limited Vegetarian menu. It was topped with soyrizo and sauteed veggies. We both had their house margaritas, which were quite good (and strong!). Portions were modest - not tiny, but not filling. $21 for scrambled eggs mixed with shredded pork and three corn tortillas. Flavor was ok but nothing particularly memorable. Cafe de Olla seemed fully pre-prepared and not fresh (though, pardon this if that's how it's supposed to be). Also noticed Mexican Coke on the menu for $8. Service was also cold, no warm welcome or pleasantries exchanged. I came in around 7:30 PM on a Friday night expecting a wait, but I was seated right away at a small table. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, just the right amount of buzz. My server greeted me warmly in Spanish, and after a short exchange, asked if I preferred to speak Spanish or English--a gesture that made the whole experience feel more personal. The horchata arrived first, served in a mug with ice. It was just sweet enough and lasted me through the whole meal, though it started tasting a little watered down by the end. A bit more cinnamon would've taken it to the next level. For starters, I had the rajitas--a creamy queso and corn dish with big chunks of poblano peppers. It wasn't too spicy, and the round corn chips had a light, toasty flavor that paired nicely. The whole dish felt light and balanced, which I appreciated. The main event was the rib eye, served sizzling on a stone platter. I ordered it medium, and although it was on the thinner side, it was impressively tender. Topped with jalapeños and onions, and accompanied by a spicy red sauce that had a real kick. The side of pinto beans had a dollop of goat cheese, but they were a touch watery for my taste. Everything sat atop a whole poblano that seemed to heat up the longer it stayed on the platter. The stone was quite hot - so much so that little juice droplets were flying up and singeing my forearm now and then as I cut the steak. They also brought out some warm corn tortillas in a pouch--unfortunately I forgot about them until the end, but one came in handy for finishing off the leftover rajitas. The inside seating was a nice, dimly lit, fun vibe. They also have a covered outdoor patio. German was our waiter, what a nice guy. Ask for him when you go in! I ordered the Carne Asada and my wife ordered the Nopal. We split the guacamole and the Tuetanos as well. The bone marrow was tasty but not the best I've had. Usually I am with a friend when eating out but was alone this time and ordered Carne Asada which was excellent. It came with a large tray of toppings that I don't use so in order to avoid waste I had the cheerful server take it back. Next time I would order the Quesadilla with Carne Asada stuffing, which an expediter who had just gone off duty was having; I had flan for dessert, also excellent and a generous size. I took home half my Carne Asada in a box. Parking could be a challenge (I had walked up from my home a mile away) but I believe a spot could be found within two or three blocks on the residential side streets either side of 10th Avenue. My visit was a Saturday and they were busy when I was there in the 8pm hour; seating includes a balcony above Miller Street. servers got to everybody cheerfully and efficiently. 3.5 stars here. Came for brunch with friends and it was heck a packed. From arrival to sitting down and actually eating was nearly two hours. We'd committed and parked and weren't leaving. The food was presented gorgeous but just so so. The chicharrones were soggy and my dish was missing the black beans mentioned in the menu. But hunger won and I didn't complain. My friends ate because of being so hungry too and no one was absolutely wowed by the food. It was definitely good and made fresh but not as outstanding to warrant such a long wait. And expensive. Full disclosure, I've been here before and it was not memorable... I blame Covid for this though. However, tonight it was a totally different experience. Everything about it was fantastic! I ate so much, I literally felt like I would need to be rolled out! Not to mention the drinks were delicious as well! Every single item I had was full of flavor and perfectly cooked! The staff were amazing, they all worked together and helped one another, which I learned are mostly all related since this is a family owned business. Getting there right at opening time was the right call! In a matter of 30 minutes, the place was completely full! I also really liked the art hung in the hallway while I waited for the restroom. We are a Mexican household and spend an extreme amount of time researching and cooking authentic Mexican recipes - so much that going out for Mexican can be a letdown if the flavors or authenticity doesn't hit the mark. Let me tell you that we loved every bite and sip had at d'la Santa!! We ordered the queso fundido with chorizo, guacamole, tacocarte, and la virgen margarita. The queso is just fantastic, piping hot comfort food. We loved that the tacocarte allowed us to try an assortment of meats. The tortillas are homemade and probably the best I have had in Seattle. The presentation is great and so is the atmosphere. My husband was chatting with the waiter who told them these are his authentic family recipes straight from Jalisco. I wish I knew the story on the tree in the middle, but it's very pretty and ambiance is cozy.
