Came to Carmelo's for some night bites whilst hanging with friends and it there was quite the line which can be a good sign - It shows the place is popular, so they must be doing something good, but also you then have to wait if you're hungry. Carmelo's is a walk-up window, like a notch up from a taco truck, so the presentation was decent. The flaw with Carmelo's is that it's pretty much walk up - take out. There is no place to sit or even place your food down. I had to juggle my plate and consommé while eating carefully. Because it can get so crowded I can see why they'd skip that but it's still kind of a hassle. That all said, Carmelo's is pretty fast, even with a crowd and the food is decent. I much prefer the tenderness of Tacos Chukis al pastor tacor -Steak quesadilla (3/5): this was a solid quesadilla, I have no complaints. It was not too oily and had a nice crisp. There was no wow factor though, and could have been more of a cheese pull that is iconic to a quesadilla. -Chicken torta (3.5/5): the torta had way too many things going on and the bread was not nicely toasted like the one from Tacos Chukis, but I will say that the chicken was super tender and juicy... cooked perfectly. There was salsa verde on each taco with pickled carrots and onion on the side. When I bit into my Tacos Pastor, it wasn't juicy and I could only taste the pineapple. There was A LOT of pineapple on the al pastor - to the point where it largely overpowered the flavor of the meat itself. The chicken was nothing to write home about, and the steak quesadilla was also very standard. Let me tell you this is one of the most authentic pieces of Mexican food I've ever put in my mouth.
