I love that they have so many vegan options on their menu. The drinks are also good. The service was fantastic and my friends and I really enjoyed ourselves. We will often come here after yoga because of the chill vibe and variety of food options for dietary restrictions. This spot is always a favorite for catching up with friends or when we want to sit on the patio with our pup. They also have some great taco Tuesday deals.

    Chopped salad with prawns

Went for a casual lunch and sat at the bar! The bartender was super attentive, and nice. Got the chop salad with prawns and it was so fresh and filling. We also got a chicken burrito - Christmas style - which was huge and delicious as well. The inside is fun, but casual. There is front of the house seating, as well as bar and back of the house with lots of TV's and outdoor seating. Great spot!

We tried a variety of dishes and everything was so good. The steak tacos were simple but just enough flavor. The shrimp enchiladaswere incredibly flavorful and delicious, and the birria tacos were spot on. The meat was tender, the flavors were rich, and the consomé wasn't overly oily like at other places. To top it all off, we had their prickly pear slushy margaritas, which were super refreshing and the perfect complement to the food. The vibe is casual and welcoming with both indoor and outdoor seating. The service is usually very quick but if sitting in the bar section it can take a bit longer as there is usually only one person at bar section Parking can be a bit tricky since it's street parking but honestly, it's worth the extra effort. Highly recommend checking it out if you're craving solid Mexican food with great drinks to go with it

KEY: OPEN LATE ! Awesome music and friendly service. Easy walk if in the SLU area. Got the nachos and shared with a friend. Could've easily shared with the whole table (4 people) because the two of us barely made a dent in it ! For ~$20 I'd say that's a steal. Gave a 4/5 because a lot of the add ons were extra $$ ($5+) and it made it seem more expensive tbh But like I said, if you're sharing, it's worth it. Not pictured: Quesadillas also very large portion for equal price to nachos. Tacos come with 3, no sides. To me, $17 for tacos is a little much.

El Grito is a Mexican restaurant in downtown Seattle. It's walkable from the hotels downtown and has cute decorations inside. They take apple pay and the service was okay. The tables are very small and the restaurant is humid and dark - I wouldn't recommend dining in with a group. Our waitress was nice and answered all our questions. The portions of food were okay for the price - it was a bit expensive. The food itself was average. The chicken tinga tacos and quesadilla were way too liquidy and the elote was too salty. The Fajitas were seasoned well and were a little dry but the best thing on the table.

We were looking to grab some Mexican food and ended up at El Grito, unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. The ambience itself feels very corporate and not cozy. The service was not friendly - felt like they didn't know enough about the food and were in general uninterested to serve. We got the margaritas, chicken and fish tacos. I wish I had something positive to say about it but it lacked flavor on all fronts and was extremely pricey for the food that they served. We never left a place more quickly; won't visit again.

AMAZING chips and salsa! This spot is so close to me and I've been wanting to try it forever. I finally got the chance to come for happy hour one day right before it ended. We shared the chips and salsa + guac combo, and I also got the fish and carnitas tacos. The chips themselves are absolutely incredible -- perfectly thick, crispy, crunchy, and salty. I loved the salsa which is really flavorful as well though I thought the guac was just average. The tacos were served on dark tortillas which were good, though I wasn't the biggest fan of the mascarpone. However, the fish and pork were great and the tacos are only $4 on taco tuesdays :) Overall, its a cute and cozy Mexican restaurant in SLU, and definitely worth visiting for their happy hour and taco tuesday deals!

    Pina coloda w/dark rum
    Mistyday H.

Hands down the best hidden gem in Seattle for Mexican food and ahhhhhhhhhmazing drinks and cocktails. They have the best pina coloda I've had in my life. I have had authentic ones in the Caribbean with dark rum! El Grito puts the dark liquor at the bottom and the pina coloda frozen mix is on top! I had 2 and would have gotten a 3rd if I didn't drive!. The prawn grilled shrimp enchiladas dinner plate was perfection in taste, size & presentation. I did add a side of the lime slaw for more of a acidity crunch! My bartender was excellent! I was here almost 3 hour's enjoying the entire vibe. Only draw back was no complimentary chips and salsa. Another con was that most cocktails started at $18! My pina colodas were $12 a piece &worth every sip! The happy hour menu and taco Tuesday menu is your best way to try more items on the menu!

**vegetarian review** I really like el grito. There are many vegetarian options and food is generally really delicious. I really liked the prickly pear tacos and the mushroom and potato quesadillas. I also like their fijitas. The service is quick and I have never had to wait too long for a table

    Slushie Special: Daiquiri
    Tonja S.

Great vibes, great food, great service! We were greeted right when we walked in, told to grab a seat anywhere, and decided to sit at the bar. I ordered the slushie special: OG Daiquiri, and we shared chips and salsa (fire-roasted), a quesadilla (with chorizo), and the chicken wings (with the sweet chili sauce). Everything was DELISH! The slushie wasn't too sweet or too boozy, just the right amount! The chips were fresh made, though had a bit too much salt (may have just been a little heavy hand with the shaker on that batch), and the fire-roasted salsa was super tasty but my ONLY complaint would be the amount of salsa compared to chips wasn't enough. The quesadilla was enormous and they did not skimp on the meat! And the chicken wings were my personal favorite! Perfect crisp and the sweet chili sauce was delicious!

I came here with my friend for happy hour. I always walk by this place and was excited I got to try it. They have a cute outdoor patio as well as an inside area. We were seated inside. We ordered the nachos and chicken quesadillas off the happy hour menu. The prices were good and the portion of food was very large. The quesadilla was very yummy and flavorful. The nachos were good as well, but I do think they needed a bit more cheese or salsa. The server was super nice and making jokes with us which was a fun time :). I would definitely come back!

Tried the takeout steak fajitas ($18). Could have been more flavorful but they were nicely cooked, packaged, and tasty Loved all the components that came with it! I am definitely trying to come back and dine in!

We loved the vibes, the food and the service so much we made it back here for dinner again within a week. Our first time here we got Tacos Cameron, and Pollo Asado. The Pollo Asado was good, so were the rice and beans that came with it. We asked them if they had a house hot sauce and we were given a spicy salsa that we loved. We finished our meal with a Choco Flan. It was delicious and huge, we couldn't finish it. Our second time we decided to try different items, and got Quesadilla Fritas, and Pescado Frito. It was my first time having Quesadilla Fritas, I got it with chorizo y papas and I enjoyed it. We absolutely loved Pescado Frito, the whole tilapia was fried perfectly, it's one of the best items we have had anywhere in a long time. We were told it is one of their best seller menu items and we got the last fish for the night. All their ingredients are so fresh, it elevates the meal. We finished our meal with Flan. (those burritos are massive omg.) the mole enchiladas were SOOO good, as were the cashew poblano enchiladas. their sauces are so yummy and the presentation was on-point for both enchiladas. i also had a bite of my friend's carne en morita which is a slow cooked pork dish, and i was obsessed. the only thing i'd say to pass on would be the tacos. drinks were also great and had amazing presentation. i was very satisfied with my carajillo and my friend's passion fruit mojito was also very tasty (you could NOT taste the alc in it i swear) overall, koko's is a great spot if you're looking to dress up for a cute night out but also craving some tasty mexican food.

I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.

Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
