    Al pastor tacos Carnitas tacos
    Daniel W.

This store is right next to the Starbucks in Pike place, so it's easy to miss behind the giant Starbucks line. But this is actually a great store with particularly unique tortillas. They nixtamalize their flour in house and you can definitely taste the difference in the tortillas. Coming from LA I've had my fair share of great tacos. But these are almost as good. While the tortillas are clearly the star, their meats are quite decent too. Though not as tender as I would have liked, the seasoning and toppings were spot on and the salsa was great. If the meat was a little bit better, I would have given it 5 stars, but there is still room to improve. If you're in visiting pike place and looking for really authentic Mexican food, this is definitely the place. It's a small little store without too much room to eat in store, but there is so much public area nearby to eat. I recommend taking out and watching the waterfront from the park.

Didn't try too much from here because I was pretty full but I got the Jamaica Auga Fresca which was pretty good! Kind of like sweeter cranberry juice. The staff were super friendly and welcoming! Place was pretty packed. Limited indoor seating, more of a take out place. The decor was beautiful and their tiles are hilarious. Chill vibes and music playing in the restraint.

    Beef ranchero and chicken tacos
    Taara H.

    O. M. G. Their Beef Ranchero taco was, hands down, THE best taco I've had EVER in the US. As the kids today say, "Period." The flavors, fresh ingredients, perfect blend of textures - ¡excelente! The gentleman who took my order said their tacos were most popular (I was deciding between tacos and gorditas), so I went with that. Had the steak ranchero and chicken tacos. Tender, flavorful shredded beef in the handmade, perfectly sized for hand-holding tortilla was everything I needed for my rumbling stomach. Chicken was good as well, but not life changing like the steak, haha. I still want to try the gorditas, but I can't guarantee I won't just get 3 steak rancheros next time, lol. All the employees were kind and welcoming. Restaurant was decorated nicely - honoring Mexican culture. And it took no more than 5 minutes - if that - to get my 2 tacos. Thank you, Maiz, for bringing an authentic Taste of Mexico to the Pacific Northwest!!

Right next door to the original Starbucks, this place has much better coffee plus a shorter line. Order maiz coffee, or latte Ingles for regular milk. Great service! Great place to rest your feet while sipping coffee.

I was looking for a little pick me up caffeine drink when I came across this spot. It was cute and colorful and instantly caught my eye. Once inside, the staff greeted us right away and were very nice and welcoming. I decided to try the iced horchata latte which is actually made with horchata and then they add a espresso shot, as opposed to most places that do a syrup, yuck. This was the absolute best horchata latte, great quality espresso and drink overall. I will be dreaming about it for days, highly recommend it!

Heirloom corn lime and salt makes for a nice clean tortilla. Six dollars for six pack or $10 for a 12 pack. However, I went to pay and they charge me $7.50 for a six pack. I asked about that and they said it was taxes which doesn't make sense that would've been $6.60 approximately. When I printed the receipt, it showed a 15% service charge. Totally support taking care of their staff but they really need to put that information upfront. The manager came by and pointed to a small sign on the credit card machine that I think maybe says something about it, but I could not read it . It was tiny, and the staff seemed to not be aware of it and misinformed. They really need to improve their communication and signage They don't have any other food options - if you're plant based but they said, maybe their other location does. please improve this communication Consider a vegan pozole option.

SO GOOD! love the local ingredients and LOVE the flavor! i got the shrimp ceviche on tostadas (2 per order, for $20). they were loaded, lots of fresh pieces of shrimp, lots of fresh crisp veggies, it was flavorful, limey, the tostadas had a wonderful crunch. i got the hot sauce on the side and it was definitely hot but also very flavorful! definitely a messy eat, but just gotta embrace it! service was kind and they answered my questions! got my food really quick too. a bit pricey but tastes so good so i will be back to try their tacos/other menu items! theres several bar seats in the restaurant, but i definitely recommend crossing the street and sitting on the waterfront walkway!

First time here, we only ordered drinks. We got a hot champurrado & an iced horchata latte. Champurrado - not too sweet, flavor is very rich on the chocolate, it's like a hot chocolate but it was good. Horchata latte - really well balanced with the cinnamon and espresso. A good combination, I thought the espresso would overpower the flavor but it doesn't & I thought it would be overly sweet but it's not, it's perfect. We didn't get to try their food but we will definitely be going back to try it. They are located on the same strip as the first Starbucks in pike place so if you want to try something new I would check them out! Service was great, wonderful people!

Watching the SB line click past while we enjoyed real authentic food!

We walked all over Pike's looking for something that called to us to eat. Hubby was being picky and frankly, pissing me off. We see the long line for the original Starbucks and hidden behind the line was Maiz. We walked in, with my hope that a taco would suit him and we could eat already! I got a pork tamale and an Al Pastor taco and a champurrado (not always easy to find, but so delicious on a cold wet day!) He got a beef taco and a chicken taco. The corn tortillas were so fresh and soft and the masa on the tamal was soft, but firm and delicious! Everything was great. My picky husband said "see it was worth the wait. I picked the perfect place." Okay okay... I will give him that. Don't sleep on this place. Try it out. Break thru that Starbucks line and get yourself a champurrado instead. There's a SB on every corner and they all taste the same anyway.

This place is delicious!!!! It's pricey for a taco spot however you will enjoy every bite!! It offsets the price by FAR! Can't wait to come here again on our next Seattle visit!

We were in the area showing our out of town guests Pike Place. It was a colder day and a lot of the more popular businesses had very long lines, so we seen Maiz (smelled it before we seen it) and stopped in. The business is on the smaller side (as a lot of Pike Place stores are) but had very minimal indoor seating (just two long tables along the side of the store with standing room only). We ordered a few items (tacos, quesadillas and drinks - both alcoholic and non). However, I only got a picture of my iced horchata latte as everyone was famished and scarfed the food down! The food was aromatic and flavorful, a bit on the expensive side but understandable given the location. My latte tasted like liquid rice pudding but more subtle. My only recommendation would be to use actual horchata in place of the milk part of the latte rather than milk and adding cinnamon. Definitely worth visiting and would recommend!

Tacos with pastor, carnitas, and steak ranchero (from bottom to top)
    Christopher H.

Maiz is highly recommended by local chefs for their fresh, handmade tortillas. Overall I think it's a good taco that suffers from being very overpriced - 3 tacos cost $22 in total including a hidden 15% service charge which I find a bit scummy. For the meats, I liked the carnitas the best. It's quite saucy, the meat is tender, and each bite was well balanced. Probably my favorite carnitas taco ever! The tacos come with a salsa verde which is well made and has a nice bitter flavor. I was a bit disappointed by the steak ranchero so I don't recommend getting that. I will also say that I thought the handmade tortillas were good but not life changing. Maybe if you're a chef you can appreciate the high quality tortilla ingredient that Maiz advertises, otherwise I suspect it'll just taste normal to you.

First time visiting from LA! And I'm Mexican American so I love my Mexican culture and of course I have to try it and support my culture! I got the pork Al pastor sope let me tell you! I've never been to a place where I actually liked the sope and here! The meat the fresh sope that's made in house! Was so delicious the cheese the salsa! Ugggh Amazing! And the Jamaica loveddd it 10/10 tasted so fresh and homemade! I will definitely be returning and recommending! The workers are so nice and fast!

We sat near the bar high top and ordered Mexican corn and poblano cashew enchilada with carnitas. Both dishes were enough for 2 people to share. The Mexican corn is fairly standard, with cotija and some chips to supplement the dish. Portions were quite decent and the corn was fairly good. The cheese is nicely melted for that nice long cheese pull. The poblano cashew enchiladas were very delicious. After all, people say that's the dish that makes them stand out. There are 3 pieces of enchiladas with a generous amount of carnitas. There's also some pickled onions and other fixings to enhance the dish. The sauce was rich yet not too heavy. Service was really good. They checked up on us once in a while and ensured prompt water refills. (those burritos are massive omg.) the mole enchiladas were SOOO good, as were the cashew poblano enchiladas. their sauces are so yummy and the presentation was on-point for both enchiladas. i also had a bite of my friend's carne en morita which is a slow cooked pork dish, and i was obsessed. the only thing i'd say to pass on would be the tacos. drinks were also great and had amazing presentation. i was very satisfied with my carajillo and my friend's passion fruit mojito was also very tasty (you could NOT taste the alc in it i swear) overall, koko's is a great spot if you're looking to dress up for a cute night out but also craving some tasty mexican food.

I'm usually a fan of a smaller, curated menu because it suggests care in sourcing and execution. But for us, the execution just didn't land. Everything is served family-style, but the portion sizes didn't justify the price point. We started with the sourdough and butter spread, and it was a letdown right away. The bread was hard as a rock, and the butter--while sounding interesting--came slightly burnt and didn't feel worth $11 for two pieces. Next was the albacore tuna tostada. As someone who travels to Mexico City often, I was genuinely excited for this. But it leaned heavily on avocado, with barely any tuna to balance it out. For $25 and only two tostadas, it felt pretty stingy. The rapini quesadilla sounded promising but ended up tasting mostly like broccolini and mushrooms--nothing that really stood out or justified the dish. We finished with the 21-day dry-aged steak, which, at $59, felt like it should've been a highlight. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. It came out essentially raw, which I didn't mind in theory, but it was incredibly chewy and lacked flavor. It was difficult to cut and even harder to enjoy. The tortillas were nice, and the demi-glaze had potential, but overall it just didn't come together. Even the refried beans on the side were underwhelming--something you could easily find done better at a casual spot. On the bright side, the mezcal margarita with a tajín rim was excellent--well-balanced and probably the highlight of the night. And the service was warm and attentive, which I appreciated. But overall, for the prices and the hype, this place just didn't do it for me. Maybe we ordered wrong, but I've had much better elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be back.
